Pending Hounds
IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR ADOPTERS!
We are currently doing adoptions on a limited basis, in the Upstate Area of South Carolina, due to the shortage of greyhounds. Most of the tracks closed across the country in 2020, but we have gotten a few dogs from Australia and the two remaining tracks in West Virginia. We also occasionally get returned dogs from our group and other groups that have gone out of business. If you are a new adopter in the Upstate South Carolina Area, fill out this form so we can add you to our list of people interested in greyhound adoption.
If you have adopted from Greyhound Crossroads previously: Please fill out the form below so we have your updated info and can begin finding the right dog for you.
Greyhound Crossroads Adoption Requests
We suggest making a donation of $450, WHEN you get your greyhound, to help us cover its' medical and transport expenses. We never ask for a fee to apply to adopt.

From our Australia Friends: Hulk is an energetic and loving greyhound with a heart full of enthusiasm! He is a fantastic walker who enjoys going for long walks and would thrive in a home with an active lifestyle. He walks beautifully on leash, making every outing a pleasure. Hulk is incredibly stable and confident, adjusting easily to new surroundings. He is a social butterfly, always eager to engage with people and share his joy- his tail is constantly wagging in excitement! If you're looking for a happy, active, and affectionate companion, Hulk is ready to bring lots of love and energy into your life. Hulk's foster mom says he is quite the dog! He was born on October 1, 2020 so is currently 4.5 years old. He has no exposure to children, but definitely knows he is way too interested in cats to live with them. He passed his test for tolerance with small dogs. He is listed as 34kg, which converts to about 75 lbs. We feel that Hulk will do best living with a family who has a yard for him to exercise in, and the desire to be very active on a daily basis. More as we get to know him! Update from his foster home! Mr Banner/Hulk is a black male, born on 10/01/202. He is out of Zambora Brockie (sire) and Bonna Bale (dam). Hulk/Banner needs a forever home! He is looking for a family with structure that is active in some way (hikers, campers, RVers, dog sports) with no small children or cats. If this sounds like you, please read on! This boy is one of those special greys that has confidence to spare. He is bold, curious, and athletic, with tons of personality- not to mention he is handsome! This gives him "bomb proof" personality. He will investigate everything in his environment, high or low, small space or big. He is NOT hyper, just has an insatiable curiosity. Because of that, he seems almost indifferent to people- but that is a lie! He does enjoy attention and cuddles (his foster mom can pick him up and put him in her lap without him turning into a stiff board) and is gentle to handle. Also for a dog with his strength and interests, his is very good on leash. He is also very food motivated and has been wonderful in his kennel. He does have high prey drive (no cats), but is fine with dogs of all sizes- though he has no problem speaking up if the other dog is doing something he doesn't like. Banner is a boy that is going to test some boundaries, and therefore needs a definite structured environment where he has clearly defined boundaries. He has exhibited sleep startle- thus no small children. (He does like kids. He is just a bit much for small ones.) His foster mom is working on training with the sleep startle issues. He was originally called Hulk, but his foster home says he responds better to Banner. He is not a destructive dog by nature, but with his curiosity he does tend to bump into things. He is mellowing with more house time, but isn't likely to be the normal "couch potato" greyhound. Banner is a very special, unique greyhound that will blossom with a family who will give him the boundaries and adventures he needs to truly be comfortable forever.

Charlie just arrived from Australia. He never received a racing name and never completed his registration process, so never actually raced. He was tattooed though, in his right ear VLTEY. He is also microchipped 956000014528586. Charlie is a gorgeous black male with a lot of flashy white on his chest. He is young and just turned 2 on June 3rd. Because he isn't registered we don't know who his sire and dam are. He was around small Fox Terriers at his farm in Australia and was good with them, so should be fine in a home with small dogs. He also passed his cat test without much interest. He has been around kids and likes them. Because he is young, he is more energetic and playful, so will need some exercise and fun in his life. Update! Charlie had an unfortunate kitty visitor pop into his outdoor pen, making him extremely interested in cats now. We are changing his listing to not safe with kitties, and he is once again available for adoption. He is a fabulous dog much loved by his current family, but with a large number of cats roaming their neighborhood, it's just not a safe or comfortable situation for him now. Someone very lucky is going to fall in love with this boy!

Martha is arriving soon from Australia. She only ran one race at the Dubbo Stadium and finished last. Martha was not cut out for the racing life, she’s too much of a detective! She likes to take her time, explore her surroundings, sniffing around until she gets the full picture and low-down on everything that’s going on! She is always eager to know what’s happening and learn new things. Her DOB is 8/26/21. Martha's sire is the famous Fernando Bale and her dam is Karen Keeping. Her ear tattoo is NKEMT. She was fully vetted before arrival in Australia. Martha (a.k.a. Mad Martha!) is a young, energetic and playful girl with a very sweet nature! She is a happy and confident dog who just adores her humans! In spite of her confidence, Martha can be a little shy around new people at first, but will still accept a pat on the head until she gets to know you- then she wants full on cuddles! Martha is used to being around other Greyhounds, she also has had positive interactions with some smaller breeds. Martha recently met some smallies through a fence and after a quick sniff and hello, she was happy to move on and focus on something else. You don’t make friends for life by coming on too strong! Martha is a dog that just exudes positive energy. She is happy and curious and will only grow in confidence the more she gets to know her new humans. Martha is a wonderful dog who would make a great addition in any home that has the love and patience that she deserves. She is a detective that can’t wait to discover her new family! So far Martha has been pretty shy and overwhelmed since she arrived, not wanting to come out of her kennel. Once out she does walk nicely on leash and will approach adults and older kids, but seemed more nervous around a toddler. She has not wanted to be sniffed or approached by any other dogs large or small. She showed some interest in the cat until it slapped her then she backed off. She did go back to see the cat later, so was still showing some interest. We think she may be trainable with cats with more supervision. She is supposed to be good with other dogs, so we think she is just a sensitive girl that needs some time to relax around strange dogs. |

Gazer just arrived from Australia. He only has two races listed at Grafton and Casino and he placed 7th and 8th. He is a handsome, black male that raced at 71lbs. His DOB is 4/25/21 so is just turning 3 years old. Gazer's sire is Ace Hi Rumble and his dam is Lucille Rumble. He is tattooed in his left ear NKCHX and is microchipped. He was neutered, had his dental and all his shots in Australia before being transported to the US. This is the description we received from his previous owner: This guy is the perfect example of the cruisy greyhound. He likes to play for a little while, but then it is nap time. His favorite pastime is food tasting. Gazer has a great attitude towards life and lives it to the fullest. He is a very happy boy and loves being with his people. He is good with the Italian Greyhound he met. Cats roam the property and although most of the dogs don't interact with them, they can observe them and don't get excited when they do see them. Children interact with regularly (8 and up). Children can lead him around and he will not pull on the lead. Gazer just wants to get in the car and settles quickly and travels well. He is crate trained and is happy to sit in his crate and watch his people while they work. Gazer has been a great boy since he arrived. He absolutely loves the kids he saw ages 4 to 9. He is so friendly and happy and great on leash. He has been quiet in his crate. Gazer has been living with small dogs in his foster home. He absolutely can not live with cats. He was very focused on the cat and didn't back away even when it slapped him. Gazer does travel very well. What a nice, friendly, happy guy! UPDATE! Kai has done really well in his adoptive home since last year, but recently had an unfortunate surprise encounter with an unexpected cat. He's demonstrated that even though time has passed, he is NOT a dog who can live peacefully with them either inside or out. Otherwise, he's a splendid, friendly, and well traveled dog just waiting for his new start with the perfect family! |

Max just came in from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He is arriving with two of his sisters Silver and Lola. He and his sister Lola look just alike. He started out his career in Orlando. He showed some promise as a racer so was moved to Dubuque where he raced briefly at A level. Since Max was good, he was moved up to a tougher track, Southland. The competition there was too stiff, and he only won 1 race, so he was moved back to Dubuque and then to Wheeling. When he wasn't able to win another race at either of those tracks he was moved to Derby Lane. He only won one more race there, so was moved back to Sanford Orlando where his sisters were racing. He was retired after just a few races there. Max is a flashy black guy with a white chest and white feet. He raced at 72lbs and will turn 5 on July 20th. His sire is the famous Oshkosh Slammer and his dam is USS Time To Go. Max travels well. Max got along fine with the small dog he met. He appeared to have already met cats before. As soon as he saw the cat he turned his face to the side and carefully backed away to avoid the claws. Max seems like a pretty calm guy that has been a little overwhelmed so far. He seems like he will warm up after a day or two though. He seemed to like the kids he met and wagged happily. He can be vocal in his kennel occasionally so may not be a great apartment or townhouse dog. So far he hasn't been a very good eater, probably due to the stress of the move. UPDATE! Max has been loving retirement for over 5 years with a wonderful family, but their situation is changing. Through no fault of his own, he is once again available for the perfect family who's been waiting for a senior to share their home with. He hasn't been living with either small dogs or cats, so retesting would be required before placement with those. |
