Pending Hounds

A list of all the greyhounds pending adoption through Greyhound Crossroads. Although some of these dogs have been on here a long time, they are not available for adoption. In most cases the dogs are safely in their adoptive homes and their owners have not yet made a contribution towards their adoption and/or completed the paperwork to make it official.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR ADOPTERS!

The majority of greyhounds racing in the US were racing in Florida until all of those tracks closed at the end of 2020.  There weren't enough greyhounds for the adopters and adoption groups wanting them before the tracks closed. Now we have an impossibly long waiting list and greyhounds are have become very rare. We don't now when or if we will get any more greyhounds. At this time we are sorry but we are unable to accept any new applications to adopt greyhounds. Many greyhound adoption groups have already closed or have switched to other breed rescue. We are remaining open to support greyhounds we have already placed and to help with rehoming any greyhounds adopted through groups that have already closed their doors.

If you have adopted from Greyhound Crossroads previously: Please fill out the form below and we will contact you IF we get a greyhound that might be a good match for you.

Huxley is a black male that is a retired racer. He raced only 7 races at Southland before the track closed at the end of 2022. He only won one of those races. He has been in a home in Alabama since he retired from racing. Our group was asked to help place him in a new home. Huxley raced at 71lbs and will turn 4 on May 15th. His sire is KL's Harvey and his dam is Kool Hemmi. He is a friendly, happy guy that is great with other dogs of all sizes and is also cat friendly. He was neutered by VIP Mobile Clinic in Chelsea AL on 3/18/24. The foster family that held him for us in Alabama until we could pick him up, decided they wanted to adopt him.

Idol is a return from a Gainsville FL greyhound adoption group that is no longer in business. He only had 2 schooling races at the Flagler Race Track in June of 2012. He finished so far behind everyone else that he wasn't even on camera. He was sent to Dubuque to try a different track and has one more schooling race in November of 2012.  Again he finished last, so he was officially retired. At some point he was sent back to Florida and was placed in an adoptive home there, at the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013. He has been in that home until now. He is being returned because his owners are being relocated due to work. They haven't been able to find a place to live that will accept large dogs. Idol is an older guy that turned 11 January 9th so qualifies for our senior discount of a $250 adoption donation. He raced at 74lbs. His sire is the famous Maryville Rumble and his dam is Grey's Paper Doll. He currently lives with an elderly dog and 3 year old twins. He is great with the toddlers and lets them play on and around him. He has also lived with cats and is great with them. Idol barks when he needs to go outside to go potty. He is a very calm, laid back, guy that loves everyone. He likes to be nearby but isn't needy. Idol travels well, he is not on any medications other than heart worm prevention. He likes walks and is excellent on leash. He has a fenced yard to play in and doesn't act his age. His only fault is that he doesn't like his crate. As perfect as he sounds, he probably wouldn't need to be crated. This is a great guy that is looking for a new home through no fault of his own.

Fly T Code Blue

Pet/Kennel Name:

Color/Gender:
Light Brindle Male
Cat Tolerance:
No
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Testing
Fostered by (location):
Smith, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Pending Adoption to the Smith Family of Greenville SC

Code Blue just arrived from the Xtrem Hess Racing Kennel at Wheeling WV race track. He raced a total of 74 races and also raced at Dubuque in IA and Southland in Arkansas. He mainly raced at the lower C and D levels. Code Blue is a big light brindle guy that raced at 80lbs and is a stocky very muscled boy. He turned 3 on June 2nd. His sire is Flyin Honor Code and his dam is Sierra Nevada. Code Blue seems like a pretty active, curious boy that is very friendly and confident. He is very strong and excitedly goes from place to place sniffing and pulling on leash so needs some work on leash walking. He has a strong prey drive and definitely can not live with cats. He did fine with a small white Italian Greyhound he met, but may need to be introduced cautiously to any small dogs that resemble rabbits or squirrels.  He is doing great with the other male greyhounds in his foster home and learned the stairs easily. Code Blue seems like a smart boy that isn't phased by new things. Code Blue seems like he will be a great pet for someone that will work with him on his leash manners. Code Blue was vetted on November 4th at Emerald City Vet Clinic in Greenwood.

Harry Bosch
Racing Name:
Harry Bosch
Pet/Kennel Name:
Harry
Age:
1.5
Color/Gender:
Black Male
Cat Tolerance:
No
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Greenberg, Spartanburg SC Area
Adoption Status: Pending to the Thomson family of Charlotte NC

Harry is one of the last greyhounds coming to us from the Florida race tracks. The tracks there have been gradually shutting down over the last 2 years due to a vote to end racing in Florida by the beginning of 2021. Harry came to us from D'Arcy Kennels at Derby Lane. That track just closed on December 27th of 2020. Harry never actually had an official race at that track and was retired before his career even got started. His sire is the famous Makeshift and his dam is Shanagolden. He will turn 2 on March 13th. Since he didn't race we don't have an official race weight on him, but he is a pretty tall guy that is bigger than his two brothers that he arrived with. He weighed 72lbs but is on the thin side. As a pet Harry should probably weigh between 75 and 80lbs. Harry came in with his two littermates Irvin Irving and Reggie Woo and both of them are smaller guys that raced at just 71lbs. Harry's litter were all named for the popular Harry Bosch books and TV series. Harry did not pass his cat test. He was very interested in the cat until the cat slapped him. He wouldn't go near the cat after that, so it is possible that he could be trained with them. But he still barked and seemed excitable from a distance, even after the cat smack. We think he would do best in a home without kitties. He has been fine with a small dog in his foster home and seems to get along with the their other greyhounds as well. He is very quiet in his crate and crates nicely so he may do fine as an apartment dog. He is very friendly and happy and gets a little bouncy and playful when he comes out of the crate. He liked the children he met too. Very sweet curious guy that is busy checking out everything in the house. He gives sweet kisses.

My Rag Doll
Racing Name:
My Rag Doll
Pet/Kennel Name:
Pumpkin (Rag Doll)
Age:
8
Color/Gender:
Brindle Female
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
McManis (Easley, SC)
Adoption Status: Pending for the Marshall family of Simpsonville, SC 6.5.23

Rag Doll initially came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track in June of 2019. She is a tiny girl that raced at 60lbs and raced 72 races. She started out racing at Mardi Gras briefly then was moved to Sanford Orlando to race. She was pretty good, getting up to A level for part of her career. She started slowing down, so was retired. Her sire is Kelsos Bogman and her dam is Valeri Deer. Rag Doll turned 8 on May 2nd. She is a very calm girl that passed her cat test easily with no interest in them. She was also fine with the small dog she met. She is quiet in her kennel and pretty good on leash too. She liked the kids she met. She is just a little overwhelmed by everything new but doesn't really seem to be shy and will go up to people for attention. Rag Doll had to have 11 teeth taken out at the vet so will need to have good dental care and maintenance to save the rest of her teeth. She is able to eat just fine with the her remaining teeth. Rag Doll was adopted in June of 2019 and renamed Pumpkin.   UPDATE!    Pumpkin is a very special little girl to GC, with a special story.  Her personality takes her a bit to warm up in new situations, and the stress of being moved can make life very stressful for her initially.  She expresses this by being what we might gently call a little Drama Queen.  Once she relaxes, however, it's clear that she loves her humans and just has a quirky personality.  This little sweetheart is currently on a short medical hold to sort out some tummy issues and settle into her foster home, but we are happy to discuss possible adoption while that happens.  Contact us to hear more about her unique story and what she needs for a comfortable home in retirement.  Qualifies for Special Adoption status!
