Special Needs! Eight just arrived from a farm in Florida. His sire is Irish - Definate Opinion and his dam is Drop Top. Eight is a very small guy at just 65lbs. He failed out of racing training so never completed the registration process and never got a registered name. He is very young and won't even turn 2 until May 25th. After we got him into a new environment, we discovered that he was feeling and sniffing his way along and appeared to have very limited vision. So the reason he didn't chase the lure was because he couldn't see it. Our vet checked Eight's eyes and found he can see light and dark but definitely has very limited vision. Our vet was not able to make a definitive diagnosis with the equipment she had. Eight's eyes are clear and look fine. They don't bother him or cause him any pain. Our vet said this isn't likely to be something that can be reversed. Eight gets around amazingly well once he learns his surroundings. His lack of eyesight is most noticeable when he is in an unfamiliar place. Dogs have such sensitive noses and use them so much that they are able to smell their way around their environment very quickly.  Eight is doing great in foster care and is turning into a snuggler that wants affection. In just a few days he got comfortable enough in the house to play with toys. He passed his cat and small dog tests easily and is living with both in his foster home. He was appropriate with the toddlers he met and greeted them calmly and didn't shy away but didn't seek them out either. Eight also had to have both of his lower canines removed at our vet because they were not aligned right and were poking into his gums causing pain. He is on soft food now but he will be able to eat regular dog food after his mouth heals up. Eight has the most beautiful glossy coat and is a real stunner and so sweet.

Pet/Kennel Name:
Steppin Out
Age:
4
Color/Gender:
Brindle Female
Cat Tolerance:
No
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Colflesh, Augusta GA
Adoption Status: Adopted to the Owens Family of Duncan SC 12/1/18

Steppin Out just arrived from trainer Kathi LaCasse at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced 118 races and also raced at Naples Ft Myers FL, Dubuque IA, and Southland in Arkansas. She got up to A level at a couple of those tracks so was pretty good. Steppin Out's sire is Flyin Man of God and her dam is SE's Tali Aspen. She raced at 62lbs and turned 4 on July 30th. She is an outgoing happy girl that travels well. Steppin Out was too interested in chasing kitties to be able to live with them. We thought she may be trainable at first because she did back off when the cat slapped her but when the cat moved she got too excited again. So she needs a home with no kitties. She did fine with the 15lb Italian greyhound she met though and is being fostered with dogs that size. More as we get to know her.

Natural Magic

Pet/Kennel Name:
Magic
Age:
Almost 4
Color/Gender:
Red Male
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Henrick, Columbia SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Craft Family of Aiken SC 12/1/18

Magic just arrived from trainer AJ Grant at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He raced most of his 102 races there. He also raced some races at Southland in Arkansas. Magic was a good racer getting up to A level at Orlando. He will turn 4 on December 7th and raced at 74lbs. Magic is very unusual because he has a pink nose instead of a black nose like most greyhounds. Very unique and very cute. His sire is KC and All and his dam is Norah Jones. Magic passed his cat and small dog tests easily so should be able to live with either. He has liked the kids he has met too. Magic was a little overwhelmed by all the changes at first but is figuring everything out pretty fast. New things like ceiling fans are a little scary.  He walks very nicely on leash and is quiet in his kennel. He is great on stairs and went up and down with no problem from the start. He is a pretty friendly guy that just needs a little time to get used to a new environment.

Express
Age:
3.5
Color/Gender:
White with Brindle Spots Female
Cat Tolerance:
Trainable
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Cole, Columbia SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Blue Family of Florence SC 12/1/18

Express just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Florida. She also raced some of her 124 races at Derby Lane in Florida and just a few at Wheeling Downs in WV. She got up to the top A level a couple of times but mainly raced at the lower levels. Express is a very friendly happy girl that gives kisses to just about everyone she meets. She is a natural sitter which is unusual for a greyhound. Most just aren't comfortable in that position and choose to stand or lay down instead. Express will drop into a sit often and seems quite comfortable though. Her sire is the famous Kiowa Myth and her dam is Flying Hall. Express turned 3 on March 6th. She passed her cat test without any interest when they were still, when they moved she was interested but wouldn't actually go up to them again. She was was tested with a black cat and a tabby cat - both short haired. Later she was more interested in a white long haired cat roaming the vet's office so seems like she would do best in a home with short haired cats only. She did fine with the small 15lb white Italian Greyhound she met. She loved the toddlers she met and gave them kisses and really seemed to like children. More as we get to know her.

FF Iron Man
Racing Name:
FF Iron Man
Pet/Kennel Name:
Robert
Age:
1.5
Color/Gender:
Black Male
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Greenville SC Area
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Piper family of Lugoff SC 11/28/18

Robert just arrived from the Roban Farm in Florida. He is a very young boy that never actually got to the race track. He just wasn't interested in chasing anything so flunked out of race training. Robert is a tiny guy that doesn't have an official race weight but we would guess him to be around 62lbs. He celebrated his first birthday on May 5th. His sire is WW Time Warp and his dam is Cahillusmarshall. Robert is a sweet submissive puppy boy. He gives everyone he meets kisses and keeps his head body low when meeting people or other dogs. He is also very dramatic and will yelp like a pup if he even thinks something might hurt. His racing name of Iron Man really doesn't fit him, he is not a tough guy at all. Our vet and her staff commented on what a cry baby he was when they were working with him. He is very sweet and loved the kids he met, giving them gentle kisses and wanting to be with them. He passed his cat and small dogs tests easily, as we expected. He didn't want to chase them any more than he wanted to chase the lure. Robert traveled well and crates well. He seems well behaved for a young pup, but he may get more active as he gets more confident in his new surroundings. This is the first time he has been off his farm so everything is very new to him he is definitely very unsure of himself. He was worried during his photo shoot and didn't want to look at the camera.

Edward Meechum
Racing Name:
Edward Meechum
Pet/Kennel Name:
Edward
Age:
4
Color/Gender:
Red Fawn Male
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):
Frymire, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Wisner Family of Aiken SC 11/25/18

Edward just arrived from trainer AJ Grant at the Sanford Orlando Race track. He is an extra large male that raced at 82lbs. He is a stocky guy that is all muscle. He also raced some of his 114 races at Southland. He was pretty fast getting up to B level at Southland, which is a very tough track. He got up to A level once he moved to Orlando. Edward's litter are all named for characters in the Netflix series House of Cards. We also placed his littermates Doug Stamper, Frank Underwood, Heather Dunbar, and Skorsky. Edward turned 4 on October 29th. His sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is  D's Honey Badger. Edward traveled well and kennels very well. He was friendly, playful and happy at the racing kennel, but has been a little unsure of himself since he has arrived. He is pretty friendly with adults, but was afraid of the kids he met and would shy away from them, so we think he would do better in a home without young kids. He did pass his cat test and just gave the cat a casual sniff and walked off. He also was fine with the small 15lb dog he met. So far Edward has been very calm, well behaved and sweet.

CTW Beckham
Racing Name:
CTW Beckham
Pet/Kennel Name:
Beckham
Age:
2
Color/Gender:
Fawn Male
Cat Tolerance:
No
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Johnson, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Winall Family of Trenton SC 11/23/18

Beckham just arrived from the Lester Raines Kennel at Orange Park in Jacksonville Florida. He is a young fawn male that preferred to play instead of race so was retired with no official races. Since he has no races listed he doesn't have an official racing weight but he weighed about 71lbs at the vet. He is a tall boy and will probably put on a few more lbs in retirement and be a larger male. His sire is Counselor and his dam is CTW Rosemary. He was born on a beautiful farm in Texas. Beckham celebrated his 2nd birthday on the day he arrived with us November 1. He is a very outgoing guy that is playful and silly. He still has a lot of puppy in him. He seems like he is a pretty smart boy because he figured out how to escape from a wire crate. He is in a plastic vari style crate now that works best for the houdini types. Beckham doesn't seem to be phased by much. He likes everyone he meets. He is curious about everything new and wants to sniff or taste it and is willing to climb up to get it so will need some work on manners. Beckham can be noisy in his crate so wouldn't be a good apartment or townhouse dog. He was too interested in the cat when he was tested so needs a home with no kitties. He is being fostered with a small Italian Greyhound and was also fostered with an older bassett hound so should be OK with smaller dogs. He spends a lot of time trying to convince other dogs to play with him and would do best with a playful dog that would enjoy that type of thing. He loved the small toddlers he met and kept going back to them to kiss them every chance he got. Beckham is an adorable pup with a big personality that is going to be a lot of fun.

Roger is a mid sized guy that raced at 73lbs. He will turn 5 on November 12th. Roger was born on a small, beautiful farm in Texas and was around children there. His sire is the famous Gable Sour Cream and his dam is CTW Pole Dancer. We placed a couple of dogs from a different litter out of the same mom - CTW Outlaw Kid and CTW Salsa Dancer. Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Brylowe Family of Hendersonville NC 11/21/18

Loki just arrived from the Orange Park Race track in Florida, where he raced most of his career of 88 races. He also raced briefly at Southland in Arkansas. Loki was good and got up to the top A level and even competed in one stakes race. He raced for Blanchard Kennel. Loki is an extra large male that raced at 88lbs. He turned 3 on August 9th. Loki's sire is the famous Craigie Whistler and his dam is TMC's Jaylowe. He was a kennel favorite and was encouraged to put his feet up on your shoulders to give gentle hugs-see his other pictures. He loves to give kisses too and is very outgoing and social. He is a big dog that is very strong and very curious. He pulls hard on leash and needs some work on leash manners. Loki is definitely a needle nose with a long overbite that makes his nose even longer than most. He passed his cat test easily. When he went up to sniff the cat he got slapped by the cat. He yelped and cried and nearly fell down trying to get away from the cat and wouldn't go back near that cat or any other after that. He loved the small kids he met, but is so big and bouncy that he may do better with kids that are a little older that he wouldn't accidentally knock down. Loki is a big guy with an extra large personality to match.

Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Owens, Greenwood SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Lirosi family 11.17.18

Xander is a friendly, happy brindle guy that raced at 70lbs. He initially came in from the Mardi Gras Race Track. He also raced at Naples Ft Myers and Valley. He only raced 38 races but did win enough to get up to the top A level, so was pretty good. His sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is CTU Side Party. Xander's ears stay straight up a lot and one flips over his head sometimes, which just makes him stand out in a crowd and is very cute. He turned 3 on June 7th. Xander passed his cat test with just a little initial interest at first. After a thorough sniffing, he decided that there were more interesting things to sniff than the cat and totally lost interest. He also did fine with the small dog he met. Xander is a very confident guy that can be a bit pushy, so he needs a dog experienced home with a confident owner. He is a very happy guy that is curious about everything and not a bit shy. Xander has already been in a home for awhile. He crates when told, sleeps quietly alone all night and gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home. He corrects easily with an ACK sound if he does anything he should not do. He is very smart and seems to learn quickly. We have him marked no kids because he has shown some grumpiness over his space when laying down.

A true superstar that was retired at the top A level in November of 2015. She went back to the farm to have pups then. We got to meet some of them on one of our group's track trips. She was initially adopted through Greyhound Lifesavers and was returned to us to rehome. Her owner felt that she spent too much time alone due to her busy schedule. Patches just turned 10 on August 20th and really doesn't look her age. Just a gorgeous girl that doesn't have a lot of white on her face yet. Her sire is Oneco Spirit and her dam is Hammer This. Patches passed her cat and small dog tests and loves children. She is quiet in her crate and well behaved, she does whine when she needs to go out though. Her favorite place to be is the bed closest to a person. She is used to being on a couch or human bed and will get up on either.  She is a very sweet girl that was just a bit overwhelmed when she first arrived. Because she is an older gal she qualifies for our reduced senior adoption fee.

He is an unusual blue fawn color that is kind of a grayish peach color that is a rare color for greyhounds. Canelo just retired from Southland on July 2nd. He was fast to be at that track since it is the top track with toughest competition. He did race a few races at the top level there and did win some races. He has 99 races listed and a few of those were at Daytona Beach in Florida. Canelo turned 3 on Jan 30th. His sire is KC and All and his dam is WW's Hershey. He has not been cat tested yet but has been great with the small dog in his foster home. He is a friendly guy that just stares up at you and makes great eye contact. He raced at 76lbs and his DOB is 1/2/2009. His sire is ZE's Bossbrian and his dam is Zandra. Bamba is a sweet boy that has lived in a home for some time but was returned to us due to a death in the family last year, was adopted again but now has returned to us a second time. He already has good manners and is used to living in a home. He gets along very well with other dogs as you can see from his photo. He also is great with cats and children. He has done meet and greets and loves meeting people and is very outgoing and loving. Bamba travels well and takes everything in stride. If he is adopted out in the Charlotte area he will come with free dog sitting from his current foster home. This is a sweet, friendly guy that is well behaved and already a great pet. Bamba loves his crate. He has shown some anxiety when left alone if no other dogs are there. He seems fine if he has another dog to hang out with so would do best in a home with at least one other dog. Bamba is very calm and laid back in the house but does love to make a few laps every day in the yard. He would love to have a home with a fenced yard to play in.

Blast's Sire is BD"s Grayson and her dam is AMF Bone Bruise. Blast passed her cat test with just some initial sniffing then lost interest. She has done well with the small dog in her foster home too and was friendly with the children she met. She is very outgoing with everyone. She seems like she is pretty calm but still has a fun playful silly side too. She carries her head and her tail high and just has a quiet confidence about her that so many mama dogs have. She has been encouraged to give hugs at the farm and sit because she does both. She wants nothing more than to put paws up on your chest for a hug and will just stand there as if expecting you to dance with her. She is pretty gentle about it but may not be a good choice for someone that is unsteady on their feet. Blast is very good on leash.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Appell Danforth family of Hilton Head SC 10/28/18

Tor just arrived from the Lester Raines Kennel at the Palm Beach Race Track. He raced most of his 78 races at Southland in Arkansas though. He was pretty good, getting up to B level briefly at the top track in the country, but he mostly raced at the lower levels at that track. Tor raced at 71lbs and turned 3 on June 13th. His sire is Go Wild Teddy and his dam is Kelso's Jenna. Tor is settling in nicely to foster care. He loves the kids in his foster home. He was just a little overwhelmed at first with all the change in his life but warms up fast and loves attention. He will just stand next to you for petting for as long as you will pet him. He gets along great with the other two large male dogs in his foster home and also did great with smaller dogs he met. He even allowed puppies to jump all over him, so seems to have a very sweet temperament. Tor passed his cat test easily too, without much interest. He loves going for walks and is very good on leash. Tor seems like a calm guy that will be a great pet. He is a very handsome, black guy with one cute floppy ear that doesn't always match the other. He is very cute and sweet!

Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):
Huntington, Anderson SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Lydolph Family of Davidson NC 10/27/18

Nosey came in initially from the Birmingham Alabama Race Track. She was sent to the greyhound adoption group there because they transport thousands of retired greyhounds to adoption groups all over the country every year. She actually raced in Daytona Beach FL. She has 26 races listed and raced at 64lbs. She is young and won't turn 3 until March 10th. Her sire is the very famous Flying Hydrogen, that one of our volunteers adopted after he retired. Her dam is AMF Set Aside. Nosey won a few races in her short career and wasn't bad. She is a sweet girl that is pretty calm for a younger girl. She is excellent on leash and travels very well. Nosey was a little interested in the cat at first but lost interest quickly and has been living with cats in her foster home. Nosey is good with dogs of all sizes and lived with a small Italian Greyhound. She does fuss about being in her kennel some when by herself, so may not do well as an apartment or townhouse dog. Nosey was in a home for a few months and they called her Winnie. They did not have a fenced yard so had to be leash walked to go potty. She didn't like going potty on leash and prefers to go in a fenced area where she can sniff around and find the perfect spot. She started getting very dramatic about being taken outside to potty and would scream and cry. Now that she has a fenced yard to go in and doesn't have to go for lots of long walks every day, she is enjoying walks again. No more drama and no more accidents. She loves having the other dogs around and seems to be a follower that enjoys the company of others. She is a very sweet loving girl that just must have a fenced yard. Because of her dramatic nature we think she would do better in a home without very young kids that might bother her or fall on her. She seems to like small kids just fine when she meets them and for short visits though.

Minnie just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course. She only raced one of her 49 races there though. Minnie traveled around to quite a few tracks. She started out at Dubuque in IA, then went to Wheeling Downs in WV, Gulf in TX and Orange Park in FL then finally Birmingham AL. She did get up to A level once at Orange park but just wasn't a good racer so moved around a lot looking for a place where she would be competitive. Minnie will turn 3 on November 28th and raced at 65lbs. Her sire is the famous KC and All and her dam is WW's Whiteclover. Minnie is a shy girl at first but warms up fast. She seems to be little more shy with men than kids and females. She is being fostered with a calm 8 year old child. With most timid dogs are a little too timid around very loud fast moving small kids. Minnie travels well. She is excellent on leash and goes potty on leash walks so may do OK without a fenced yard.

Fostered by (location):
Brenot, Raleigh NC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Janssen Family of Camden SC 10/23/18

Hooyah is an extra large, red brindle, male that came in from the Melbourne Race Track in FL. He also raced at Mardi Gras. Hooyah only raced 11 races, winning only one of those and usually finishing toward the back of the pack. He was retired young when he was just 2 years old. He has been in an adoptive home since June of 2017 and they were calling him Butler but he also answers to Big Guy or Big Boy. Hooyah celebrated his 3rd birthday on March 19th. He raced at a whopping 85lbs. His sire is the famous Djays Octane and his dam is Killer Roma. Hooyah is a calm, well behaved guy. He wanted to snuggle on the car trip and stood with his head on the driver's shoulder a lot of the trip. He is fine with cats and good with small and large dogs in his foster homes. Hooyah is quite friendly with adults and children too. He has only a couple of big fears, shiny floors and stairs. This is true of most greyhounds that have not seen shiny floors or stairs at the race track. Both would be considered hazards for racers, so they are just not something that most greyhounds have ever seen. Most relax after a few successful trips down stairs or across a shiny floor, but that hasn't been the case with Hooyah. Even after living in a home with some shiny floors and stairs for a year, he prefers to avoid them. A home with carpet or strategically placed area rugs would be Hooyah's dream home.  We have found that Hooyah is more confident with shiny floors when wearing non slip boots on his feet, and he looks very cute in them too. Hooyah can do 4 or 5 porch stairs to get outside, but longer flights of stairs are scary for him. He has a very unusual brindle coat. He has very little striping and is mostly red on one side but lot more brindle striping on the other. He looks like a completely different colored dog depending on which side you are looking at. Be sure to click on his other pictures to see the difference.  Hooyah is very good about doing his business outside on leash, so doesn't require a fenced yard. He hasn't had one accident in his foster home. He is always happy to see his foster mom or dad come home from work and bounces happily for a minute then, but is otherwise very calm. Hooyah is very friendly and loving. He was in an adoptive home for awhile so is already home acclimated. Hooyah was returned because he would whine sometimes and his owners thought he may have some type of pain in his neck or back that was causing the whining. Hooyah has not shown any sign of having any pain since we got him back. He whines occasionally like a normal dog, but not like he is in any pain. We kept him for observation for over a month and took him to our vet to be examined to be sure. Our vets have cleared him for adoption because they have found nothing wrong with him other than being overweight. We have him on a diet and he is getting back down close to what he should weigh. Hooyah is a very affectionate, sweet, sensitive guy that will be a very loving pet.

Prudent just arrived from the Lester Raines Kennel at the Palm Beach Race Track. She also raced at Wheeling Downs in WV. She raced 150 races and got up to B Level. Prudent is a mostly white female with some brindle spots that raced at 64lbs. She will turn 4 on Christmas Day. Her sire is the famous Kiowa Myth and her dam is Flying Sage. She was too interested in cats at first meeting at the track so they didn't think she would be OK with them. When we introduced her to our cat she remembered cats had claws and wouldn't get near it after the first time the cat swatted her. She only wanted to get out of the room and away from that scary cat. Since she did great in our cat test, but was interested at her first meeting, we listed her as trainable with cats. Prudent also did OK with the small dog she met. She has a wonderful, very outgoing personality. Very friendly and loving and will give you lots of kisses. She was loud in her crate at first but did quiet down except to let you know when she needs to go outside. She may not be quiet enough to be an apartment dog though. Prudent is a happy, bouncy girl that is energetic and fun.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Fox family of Aiken SC 10/20/18

Boomer is a brindle boy that raced at 72lbs. His sire is TNT Star Wars and his dam is Speedy Petal. He only raced 18 races at Southland in Arkansas and broke his hock October 3 of 2013, back when he was only 2. The break was splinted there by a vet and he was sent to us for rehab. Our vets also checked his leg and agreed that he would heal up fine in a splint and the break wouldn't require surgery. Boomer's break healed up nicely and he was adopted in December of 2013. He was returned to us for rehoming in 2017 because of financial problems, that made a move in with relatives necessary. Boomer was adopted quickly then and has been in a home for over a year. Boomer has just been returned again because his mom's health is failing. She is no longer able to care for him. This sweet boy has just had some bad luck over the years. Boomer likes to go on short walks and is great on leash. He can run around and do whatever he feels like doing, but probably wouldn't enjoy long hikes or jogs due to the old injury. He does favor the leg sometimes. Boomer turned 7 on August 11th. He is a sweet, very calm boy that is very good and already home acclimated. He is a little timid at first and a bit overwhelmed but warms up. He is very lazy and is happy to just have a soft dog bed to lay on. He isn't a dog that follows you or bothers you for attention. Boomer potties nicely on leash so may not need a fenced yard. He is a gorgeous, brindle boy with the prettiest eyes. Boomer has lived with cats and small dogs in his first home. When Boomer was first with us he loved his crate and was very quiet in it while he was on crate rest for the broken leg. He was so quiet in his crate we felt he may be a great apartment dog. He would probably not be able to do a lot of stairs due to his old injury and would at least need an apartment on the ground floor. He would be perfect for someone that didn't have much time or energy for walking and exercising dogs. His former owner says he loves kids and she is hoping that he gets a home with a child. The pictures are from when he first arrived and was younger.

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Bowden, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Tompkins Weldy family of Simpsonville SC 10/20/18

Sweet Senior! Kwanza was a super star when he was racing. He was the Winner of the 2010 Wheeling WVGOBA Middle Distance Championship and placed 3rd in the 2010 Tri-State WVGOBA Open Sprint. He raced 80 races at Tri-State and Wheeling winning at the top A and AA levels and competing in many Stakes races reserved for the best racers at those tracks. He was retired from racing in December of 2011 and has been at his owners farm since then. He had to have a toe amputated on his front foot at some point which is pretty common in pet greyhounds if they dislocate or break a toe. It is long healed and isn't even noticeable unless you are counting toes. Since the painful toe was removed there is nothing there to cause pain and he can run and play normally. Kwanza did sire one litter of pups back in 2015 but they weren't great racers like he was, so it doesn't look like he sired any more pups after that. He has been just hanging out at the farm as a pet until now. Kwanza raced at 72lbs and is short and stocky. His sire is Larking About and his dam is Myokie Flame. We got his half brother, Axe - Rico's Pollax, at the same time. Both have the same mom. We already placed two half sisters Rico's Tignanello and Rico's By A Nose (also same mom). Kwanza turned 10 on January 31st. Since Kwanza is a senior guy over 8 he qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. Kwanza passed his cat tests with some initial interest that only last until the cat slapped him. Then we couldn't pull him back to the cat. We think he would be easily trainable with a confident cat. Kwanza walks perfectly on a loose leash and doesn't pull. He gets along really well with other greyhounds. He has been completely vetted and had a dental and a few tooth extractions and is in good health and is ready for a loving home.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Mowery Family of Waynesboro PA 10/20/18

Eugene just arrived from a Florida farm where he has been living since he retired from racing in March of 2018. He raced mainly at the lower levels but did get up to B level a few times in his 57 races. He raced most of his career at D'Arcy Kennels at Derby Lane, but also raced briefly at Gulf. Most 4 year olds would have a lot more races. Eugene was taken out of racing for a year from December 5th of 2016 and not put back into racing until Nov of 2017 after a collision and fall in a race. He went back and had 15 more races after his year long break. Eugene is a gorgeous 71lb black male. He came in specifically for an adopter that owned his uncle and made arrangements with his trainer to adopt him through us. So Eugene is not available for adoption at this time. He is the sweetest, most gentle boy, that gives kisses to humans and other dogs alike when he meets them. He passed his cat test easily and has been fine with a small dog too. He likes kids and everyone else he meets. He pulls on leash some, curiously checking things out. He is a calm guy in the house though and very well behaved. He crates really well but does whine sometimes, so probably wouldn't be quiet enough for townhouse or apartment living. At the track, some of the other boys would bully him and he didn't even defend himself. His track trainers ended up always turning him out with one or two other gentle boys like him, rather than with the larger pack of more rowdy males. Eugene will turn 4 on September 26th. His Sire is Makeshift and his dam is Celtic Dream.

Parker just arrived from the Birmingham Race Track. He raced all of his 99 races there and was a good racer. He mainly raced at the top A level and won quite a few races. Parker raced at 68lbs so is a smaller guy. He just turned 3 on September 22nd. Parker's sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is WW's Rock Star. Parker is a very calm, easy going guy. Although he resists going in his kennel at first, once he is in there he crates quietly and is being fostered in a townhouse. Parker is excellent on leash. He gets along great with the other greyhounds in his foster home, male and female. He passed his cat and small dog tests easily so should be fine to live with either. He also travels really well. We were told that Parker was a little shy when he first arrived at the track but he warmed up to his trainers within 2 weeks and followed them around and was their best friend once he warmed up. He has been a little jumpy with his foster mom if she moves fast or is loud, but he comes when called and will take food out of your hand with no problem, so isn't too shy. Parker seems like a very sweet guy that would be an easy first or fourth greyhound and he is so handsome. Those eyes just draw you in!!

Ally just arrived from a dog farm in Arkansas. She raced 70 races mostly at Wheeling Downs in WV and was very good getting up to the top AA levels at one of the toughest tracks. She also raced briefly at Southland. After she retired in January of 2018, she went back to the farm to be a mom. She had just one puppy a few weeks ago. It was too big and she had trouble having it. The puppy didn't make it and her owners decided to just retire her instead of having more litters. Ally will turn 4 on January 6th. Her sire is the famous Flying Penske and her dam is Cidina. She raced at 65lbs. She is pretty good on leash and potties on leash so may do fine with potty walks instead of having a fenced yard. Ally travels really well and just gets in the car and lays down. She is calm in her crate. She can be just a little timid when she first meets you but did great at a busy shopping area and was very happy to let people come up and pet her. She just didn't go up to the people asking to be petted. She does like kids and gets more excited to see them than adults. She is a grinner that smiles when excited. She warms up very fast and was very happy to see us and waggy after just one day. She has a fantastic calm personality. Ally was interested in the first cat she met, but after that was fine with the other cats she met and not interested in them at all. She even walked nicely past several ducks. Ally has the glossiest, gorgeous, black coat. She had an injury to her tail when she was young so now has a cute little nub that is only about 3 inches long. She thinks it makes her even cuter and she doesn't have to worry about it getting shut in a door or gate like other greyhounds.

She placed 3rd in the 2016 Orange Park Patton Silver Cup and was a finalist in the 2016 Orange Park Bestbet Sprint Classic. Those races are reserved for the best racers at the track. Sammy raced 222 races, and almost always raced at the very top A level races against the other top dogs. She won a lot of her races!! Sammy is a very friendly, happy girl with a great personality and loves everyone she meets. Even though she will turn 5 on November 14th she is still bouncy and waggy. In all her pictures her tail was always a blur because she was wagging it the whole time. Sammy's sire is the famous Bella Infrared and her dam is WW Kay Sun. Sammy did not pass her cat test so needs a home without them. She was fine with a 15lb Italian Greyhound she met. She does seem to need careful introductions to small to medium fuzzier dogs though. She tends to mistake fuzzy things for bunnies until she sniffs them and figures out what they are. Sammy travels well. She can be a little loud in her kennel at first so probably would not be a good apartment dog. More as we get to know her.

Levi came in from the Ebro Race Track. He also raced at Sarasota, Sanford Orlando, Flagler and Naples Ft Myers. Levi wasn't a very good racer and was moved from track to track in hopes he would find a track that he could be competitive at. He ended up winning only 4 of his 48 races so eventually was retired. Levi raced at 73lbs and his sire is P's Gibbs and dam is Gable Charolais. He turned 3 on March 7th. Levi liked the kids in his foster home and was very good with them but growled a few times at a 10 year old girl in an adoptive home after being OK for about a month, so we would prefer to place him in a home with no kids. Levi passed his small dog test easily so could live with them, but has had mixed results with cats and has been too interested in some cats he has met but OK with others. He probably should have a home without cats, just to be safe.  Levi is a friendly, social, happy guy that loves being with his people. He follows his foster parents around and loved going to the Farmers Market and getting attention from all the people there.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted to the Cozier Family of Greenville SC 10/2/18

Bianca is a young, beautiful, red, girl that turned 2 on February 2nd. She raced at 68lbs. Bianca started out her career at Southland in Arkansas but wasn't fast enough for that really tough track, so she was moved to D'Arcy Kennels at Derby Lane in Florida. She did much better at that track and was winning, but she hurt her leg in her 12th race (on May 2nd), so was retired. She was sent to a farm in Florida to rehab her leg then and has been there for the last 5 months. Now her leg is healed up and she is ready to start her second career as a pet. She is going to make a great pet! She is fun, energetic and has a lot of personality. She is very happy and loving with a tail that wags most of the time. She is settling in very quickly and was already relaxing by laying at her foster mom's feet after the first day. Although she is happy and bouncy at first, she does settle well and sleeps a lot of the day like a typical greyhound. She can be a little whiny in her kennel so may not be quiet enough to be an apartment dog. Bianca did not pass her cat test and was way too interested in chasing the cat so needs a home without kitties. She was fine with the small white dog she met, but needed to sniff it and realize it was a dog. She is a smart girl that is so gorgeous! She LOVES children. We have her listed as older children only just because she was so excited to play with the toddlers she met that she was bouncing and bumping into them. She would be great in a home that had slightly older kids that were big enough that she could play with them without knocking them down. She is just a strong girl that gets excited at first when meeting people and kids. Her sire is the famous Bella Infrared and her dam is Saluted.

Ella just arrived from Figuroa Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She was owned by Lisa Wheeler. Ella raced 46 races at Derby Lane, Palm Beach and Sanford Orlando Race Tracks in Florida. She raced mainly at the lower levels and only won a few races so she was retired pretty young. Her sire is Surf Lorian and her dam is Monoco Gold. Ella is a cute 67lb brindle female that just turned 3 on September 9th. She is very friendly and happy and seems to like kids and everyone else she has met. She loves her food and is a very good eater. Very good on leash and very affectionate. Ella loves squeaky toys and likes to play. She is a bit higher energy than the average greyhound so will be a lot of fun and won't be a total couch potato. She was much too interested in cats to pass her cat test - we tested her twice to be sure. She did fine with a small white dog after she sniffed and realized it was just a dog and not the bunny it looked like. She is very social and very sweet. She is doing great in her foster home. She was a little loud in her crate at first but is getting better. She is probably not going to be a good apartment dog though.

Nickle just arrived from the Lester Raines Kennel at Palm Beach. She raced most of her 114 races at Tri-State in West Virginia though. She was a very good racer, racing at the top AA level at Tri-State. She is a very unusual black brindle girl that at first glance looks completely black. If you look close you can see faint orange stripes barely visible in her fur though. Nickle raced at 64lbs. She will turn 4 on November 23rd. Her sire is the famous Defrim Bale from Australia and her dam is Big Ego. Nickle passed her cat test easily without much interest. She also passed her small dog test easily so should be able to live with either. She is a bit overwhelmed by all the changes in her life but is calmly friendly and will stand next to you to be petted and will look up into your eyes with the sweetest expression on her face. She was a little whiny in her crate but did quiet down eventually. She may not be quiet enough to be an apartment dog though. She seems like a very calm girl. She is pretty good on leash too. Nickle has a broken rib on one side, what they call the floating rib, that is the last one before her waist. It is a very old injury from when she was a tiny pup. It can happen if a pup is stepped on by the mother or during the birthing process. It does make a noticeable bump on one side. Our vet didn't believe it needed to be removed since it is such an old injury and is not causing her any pain.

PJ Bad Boy is definitely not the right name for this very sweet, good boy, but he was actually called Moses at the track. Moses came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He also raced at Mardi Gras and Palm Beach. He is a smaller male that raced at just 68lbs. Moses had a pretty long career of 108 races and retired on June 22nd 2018. Moses did get up to the top A level at that track. His sire is the famous DJays Octane and his dam is Ucme Mini Me. Moses will turn 4 on October 5th. He is very a friendly, happy guy and his foster mom says he is a wonderful guy that is an easy foster. He is living in a foster home with kids and loves being around them. He is also living with cats in his foster home and is fine with them. The only reason he is listed as trainable is because he was more interested in a hairless cat he met but of course he didn't have any way to know that was even a cat.  Moses loves toys and is playful. He travels well. He is very well behaved and has good house manners. At night he sleeps next to his foster mom on a dog bed. He also crates well.

Sweet Senior! Witty is a girl that was originally placed by another group up North, NGAP, years ago. Her owner moved to NC and was only able to keep two of her dogs where she moved and had to re-home Witty. She said that Witty is a goofy, playful girl that is really sweet. Witty retired from the Daytona Beach Race Track in January of 2012. She raced 55 races there and only won 2 of those. She did place some, even if she didn't win, so was able to keep racing for a little while. Witty is an adorable black female that is starting to get white in circles around her eyes giving her a very cute goggle look. Witty raced at 65lbs and turned 9 on April 16th. Since she is an older girl she qualifies for our reduced adoption donation of $250. Her sire is Tempo Petrocelli and her dam is LookButDontTouch. Witty was already spayed, but she just got a fresh dental, blood work, heart worm test and anything else she needs and has a clean bill of health. Witty injured her tail at some point previously and had to have it removed so she has a cute little nub now. WItty is a sweet girl that is friendly and silly. She is getting along well with the other dogs in her foster home. She is good with small dogs as well and passed her cat test without much interest so should be fine to live in a home with either.

Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):
Cole, Columbia SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Rementer Family of Murrells Inlet 9/22/18

Lip just arrived from Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race track. He is a gorgeous, rare, all white, male with only some tiny speckles on his ears and no actual spots. He raced 148 races. Lip was a pretty good racer and got up to the top A level briefly a couple of times during his career. He was mainly competitive at the lower levels. Lipp raced at 73lbs. His sire is Hi Noon Hero and his dam is Atascocita Dory. LIpp passed his cat test without much more than an ear prick in the cat's direction so should be OK to live with cats. He is also good with small dogs. He loves having other dogs around and they seem to help his confidence, so we would love to find a home for him with another dog. Lip can be a little timid at first in new situations. He seems like he is a sweet, sensitive guy that startles easily. A small child threw a toy for another dog and it scared him. Lipp wouldn't come out of his crate if any of the small kids were around for a couple of days after that. His foster dad came home late and night and surprised him. Lipp didn't want him to come near him for a couple days after that. Lipp loves his foster mom and likes to stay close to her. He did gradually warm back up to the small kids and would cautiously approach them for petting but we think he would be more comfortable living in a quiet home without small rowdy kids. Lip is being fostered now with teenagers and he absolutely loves them. So a home with older kids would be fine for him. Lipp seems like he would be a good watch dog because he will bark an alarm if something startles him. For that reason he wouldn't be the best dog for an apartment or townhouse. Lip is a sweet, sensitive guy that is very affectionate and loving especially with females and older teenage kids. He can be a little more cautious with men but will warm up with a little time.

Sarge just arrived with his two littermates Snoopy and Sparky. They came in from the Ebro race track. Sarge is a tiny, brindle male that only weighs 64lbs. He only raced 13 races and didn't win one of them so he was retired young. He won't turn 2 until October 20th. Sarge is a very sweet guy that is friendly and happy. He traveled well on the trip up from Florida and seems to like to ride in cars. Sarge is very curious and spent a lot of time checking out everything in the house. He gets along very well with other dogs and plays nicely. Sarge wasn't fazed by the hardwood floors or the roomba. He crates well and was OK being crated in a room by himself. His sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and his dam is SJ's Flyingpenny. Sarge passed his cat and small dog tests with just a few curious sniffs so should be fine to live with either. He was friendly with the small kids he met too.

Snoopy was also called Stubby at the track because he has a short tail that is only about 6 inches long. Snoopy is a cute, tiny, boy that is white with brindle spots. He only weighs 64lbs. Snoopy came in with his two brothers Rex Birkhead (Sparky) and Adam Schefter (Sarge) from the Ebro race track. Snoopy and Sparky look like identical twins (except for the tail) but Sarge is a brindle boy. Snoopy raced 16 races and didn't win one of them so was retired young. He won't turn 2 until October 20th. Snoopy's sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and his dam is SJ's FlyingPenny. Snoopy is a friendly boy that is cute and very sweet. He did great with a small dog he met and tried to get him to play with him. He also passed his cat test without any interest. He seems like a sensitive guy that worries sometimes. His main worry is about his footing. He doesn't like to walk on odd surfaces indoors and just freezes until he gets his courage up to take a few steps. It doesn't matter if the floors are shiny, slippery or not. Outside he will walk on the same tile and wood without worrying about it and did the 4 steps to get outside with no trouble at all. He is a very silly pup that still has a lot to learn. Snoopy travels really well and loves to go for rides. He is a very good singer and does a soft quiet roo that sounds like a wolf howl but he does it very softly so it can barely be heard in the next room. More as we get to know him.

It is not loud though, just a quiet song that can barely be heard in the next room. He did great with the small dog he met and also passed his cat test without any interest. He seemed to like the small children he met too.

Buckwheat came to us from Jimmy King at the Naples Ft Myers Race Track. He raced 66 races and also raced at Flagler. Buckwheat only won 5 of his races but placed a lot. He is a 71lb black male that will turn 4 on August 19th. His sire is the very famous DJays Octane and his dam is Too Cool Cathi. According to his trainer, Buckwheat can be a little timid at first in new situations but once he gets to know you, he will be your best friend. Buckwheat is such a good boy! He is quiet in his crate while his foster family is at work. He lays right down on his bed at night and sleeps through the night. He plays well with the other greyhounds in his foster home. He is happy and his tail wags all the time. He was a little curious about the cat at first but after she swatted him once he is more cautious around her. He tries to get her to play but is polite when she says no. Buckwheat has the sweetest personality and is so shiny and beautiful. He already knows how to fetch a ball too! He also passed his cat and small dog tests so could live with either. He seems to like kids too. This is an all around great guy.

Frilly just arrived from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race track. She only ran 8 races and was doing great winning half of those. She had an ankle injury in January and they rehabbed her in hopes she could go back to racing. She healed up very well but never got back to her former speed and had some ankle soreness after practice races, so was just retired officially. She is fine to run and play as a pet and you can't even see where she was injured but she wouldn't be one that is likely to be able to do competitive sports like Agility or Lure Coursing because of the old injury. Frilly just turned 2 on June 10th so is a young girl. Her sire is Golden Squire and her dam is Fancy N Frilly. She raced at 62lbs. Frilly passed her cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. She was a little worried and stressed on the long trip up from Florida but did better on her one hour trip to the vet. She can be just a little bit timid with new people and is pretty submissive getting low to the ground sometimes. She warms up fast though and is an awesome little girl and such a gorgeous red brindle color. She seemed to like the kids she met.

He was a fast boy and also raced at the top track in the country, Southland in Arkansas. He raced 133 races total. Nelly just turned 4 on April 23rd. His sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is Taurasi. Nelly is a big, tall, calm, guy that got along very well with the other dogs at the race track, males and females. He settled into home life as soon as he got to his foster home. He found the bed and laid right down and went to sleep. He wasn't worried about the wood floors or the steps and seems like he would just settle easily into any situation. He loves snuggles and toys.Nelly was much too focused on cats he met to be able to live with them . He has been living in a foster home with a small white dog though and is very good with him. Nelly has liked the small kids he met. He did make a little noise in his kennel at first but is very quiet in his crate now so he may do OK in a townhouse or apartment. Nelly is a happy friendly guy that gets along well with others and also seems to do well when he is by himself so may do well as an only dog too. He is so handsome, sweet and calm! Just a gentle giant.

Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Fostered by (location):
McGraw, Columbia SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Cairns Family of Elgin SC 8/22/18

Gardenia arrived with her sister Blast. She retired from the Wheeling Race Track back in January of 2015 after she was run into by another dog in a race and broke her hock. She went back to the farm for rehab and she has just been hanging out there as a pet for the last 3 years. Gardenia also raced at Tri State in WV. She has 57 races listed and got up to the top AA level at Tri State. She also ran in one stakes race so she was a good racer that would have had a much longer career if she hadn't had the injury. She is a cute brindle girl that has a pure white face and white on her legs and throughout her brindle fur giving her the prettiest look. She won't turn 8 until December 13th so has gone prematurely white. She is starting to look more like a blue brindle with all the gray. She raced at 60lbs. Gardenia's sire is BD's Grayson and her dam is AMF Bone Bruise. Gardenia passed the cat test with just some curious sniffing at first, when the cat slapped toward her she jumped back and didn't want to get close to the cat again. The cat didn't actually even slap her. She has been fine with the small dog in her foster home too. She was a little nervous around small kids and chose not to interact with them most of the time. Gardenia is pretty friendly but is a little less confident at first than her vivacious sister Blast and seems to be a little more cautious of trying new things like steps at first. She has not tried to hug anyone so far like her sister does. She seems pretty laid back, well behaved and good on leash. Her leg has been healed for 3 years now and she is fine to run and play on it and it doesn't slow her down.
