BS Poppy
Racing Name:
BS Poppy
Pet/Kennel Name:
Poppy
Age:
6
Color/Gender:
Brindle Female
Cat Tolerance:
Trainable
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Stringer, Greer SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the De Percin family of Charlotte NC 10/13/19

Poppy just came in from the Birmingham Race Track Adoption Kennel. She didn't actually race there but was moved there because they transport a lot of dogs to adoption groups across the country. Poppy is a cute, friendly, brindle girl that just turned 6 on March 15th. She raced 142 races, mostly at Palm Beach but also raced some at Bluffs Run. Poppy raced mostly at the mid level C and B races but did make it up to the top A level one time. Her last race was March 10th of 2018. She raced at 64lbs. Her sire is the famous Rhythmless and her dam is Keen Katy. Poppy was a little interested in the cat when she first saw it, but calmed down after she sniffed it and realized what it was. We think she would be trainable with cats with a careful introduction and she is being fostered in a home with cats. Poppy was fine with the yorkie and italian greyhound that she met and is being fostered with a small dog. She is great on walks and has been settling in to foster care very well. She has been fostered in a townhouse and is pretty quiet in her kennel so may be good for apartment or townhouse living. Poppy is a very sweet girl that is pretty calm and friendly. She is missing about half of one ear due to some rough play with her littermates as a puppy. This just makes her cuter. Poppy was adopted in April of 2018 and has been in a home since then so is already home acclimated. Her human mom developed bad allergies to dog dander so they are having to rehome Poppy.

Fostered by (location):
Slaton, Bluffton SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Czapiewski family of Greer SC 10/12/19

Tara is a brood mom that we met on one of our track trips. She came in from the Bolton Farm in Florida. She raced at the Bolton kennel at Sanford Orlando most of her career. She also raced briefly at Flagler and Naples Ft Myers. Tara was a big star the race track and won an amazing 9 top A level races IN A ROW. She was so fast that her finishes were described as Electrifying, Cyclonic, Explosive, and Super Sonic. Unless she was bumped, blocked or actually fell, she almost always won. A true superstar that was retired at the top A level in November of 2015. She went back to the farm to have pups then. We got to meet some of them on one of our group's track trips. Now she has been retired from mom duties and is available for adoption. She turned 6 on January 12th and raced at 61lbs. Her sire is the famous Djays Octane and her dam is Fuzzys Autumn. This is a very special girl and her owner and trainer want to stay in touch with her pet owners and get updates. Tara has been in a adoptive home since November, but their dog bit her and she was uncomfortable around him after that. They think she would do better in another home. Tara is more comfortable around women and can be a little timid of men at first. Tara passed her cat test and just sniffed the cat. She was fostered with small dogs and was fine with them too.

Pet/Kennel Name:

Age:
2.5
Color/Gender:
Black Male
Cat Tolerance:
No
Small Dog Tolerance:
No
Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):
Frymire (Greenville, SC)
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Evans Family of Greenville SC 10/11/19

Envoy initially came in from trainer AJ Grant at the Sanford Orlando Kennel Club in FL. His last race was actually at Derby Lane in September and he also raced at Dubuque earlier. He was moved to Orlando in hopes he would be competitive there,  but but never had an official race at that track. He won a couple of races early on, but usually came in toward the back of the pack so the decision was made to retire him after 20 races. We got him in October of 2018. Envoy is a young black male that won't turn 3 until November 25th. He raced at 71lbs. His sire is Flying Titanium and his dam is Flying Cesium. Envoy is an energetic guy that still is pretty young. He would love to have kids or other dogs to play with. Envoy has been in a home living with a female greyhound since December and is being returned to us for financial reasons and not because of anything he did. He is very friendly and did great at large greyhound event with lots of people and dogs around. He walked politely around and loved all the attention he got. Envoy did not pass his cat test so needs a home without kitties. He needs further testing with small dogs. This gorgeous fella is ready to start looking for his new family.

Color/Gender:
Red Female
Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Pike, Myrtle Beach Area
Adoption Status: Moved to Senior Sanctuary for Adoption

Heritage now know as Rosie came in initially from the Birmingham Race Track where she raced 48 races. She was retired for bumping into and playing with other racers during races. That isn't allowed. Her sire is BD's Grayson and her dam is Flying Marietta. Rosie is a smaller red female that raced at 57lbs. She turned 7 on the 4th of July. She is greyhound grinner! When she is happy she will do the cutest big grin and show her teeth. Heritage did pass her cat and small dog tests at the racetrack but hasn't lived with them since then. Rosie has been in an adoptive home since she was 2 years old and they changed her name from Heritage to Rosie.  She is back with us because her family's other greyhound died and she was not happy as an only dog. She is doing great around other dogs and greyhounds since she has been in foster care though. She is good with children. She has no health issues, is up to date on everything medically, and is ready to go home again. Another dog is a requirement for any family that wants her.

Another group that only handles older returns asked if they could place Rosie with one of their adopters that was a good match for her.

Pet/Kennel Name:
Lashes
Age:
2
Color/Gender:
White Female with Brindle Spots
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Gardner, Myrtle Beach SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Strong family of Myrtle Beach 9/28/19

Lashes just arrived from a farm in Arkansas. She never raced due to a muscle injury as a puppy and has just been living on the farm up until now. The injury is long healed and she can run and play without any problem. She just wouldn't be fast enough to race with an old injury although she doesn't seem to limp and looks like she runs pretty fast. Lashes is a mostly white female with brindle spots. She was never given a registered racing name. We called her Lashes because she has a tiny spot of fur that grows out her lower lash line that looks like she is wearing a false eyelash. The vet clipped the hair off when she was under for her spay and it may need to be trimmed every so often as it grows out. The rest of her litter were registered and are now racing. They all have the prefix SJ's. Her sire is Starz Jenko and her dam is Go Home. Lashes was born on July 26th of 2017 so she just turned 2. She is an outgoing girl that loves everyone she meets. She is just a little overwhelmed so far with everything new but even while having her first bath, she snuggled and kissed her foster mom. This is a really sweet girl that showed no interest in the small white dog she met other than a casual sniff and even let him eat her food. Lashes was good with the cats she met too and seemed to be like the small children she met.

BGR On The Edge
Racing Name:
BGR On The Edge
Pet/Kennel Name:
Edge (Bowie)
Age:
1.5
Color/Gender:
White Male with Red Spots
Cat Tolerance:
No
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):
Franco (Columbia, SC)
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Williams family of Candler, NC 9/22/19

Edge just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race track. He only had 3 schooling races and finished toward the back of the pack in all of them. He was more interested in playing with the other dogs than chasing a lure. He even raced one of his schooling races with blinkers on in hopes it would encourage him to focus on the lure instead of playing with the other dogs. Playing with the other racers is not allowed during races and is the quickest way to be retired.  So Edge won't turn 2 until June 6th and is already retired and looking for a home. He is a silly guy that loves to run and play but he calms down nicely and sleeps in his crate and is very quiet in the crate even when completely alone. So he may do fine as an apartment dog or an only dog. He has done fine with the small dog in his foster home but does want to play with him. He would need rules and supervision with very small dogs just because of the size difference. Edge passed his cat test at the vet's without much interest. When he got into a foster home with kitties he got more interested in them moving around him so we decided that he would do better in a home without cats. He really liked the small kids he met and was fostered with a small child. Edge raced at 69lbs so is a smaller guy. His sire is Dox Out Of Peace and his dam is Superior Carly. Edge is a very good boy that responds really well to correction. He is calm for such a young dog but does have some energy because he is so young. He will run around the yard a few times and settle right down though. He is curious about everything. He has done very well on his potty training.   Updated Description!  Edge, now known as Bowie, is once again available for adoption.  His family loves him very much, but they have recently brought home an adorable newborn!  His behavior has since changed significantly demonstrating that he's just not going to be safe with the infant in the home.  This is unusable in greyhounds, but in his case they have tried very hard to turn the situation around.  We agree with their decision completely and will move Edge into foster placement as soon as we find a good location.  He is a great dog and this is the one and only reason they are returning him to us.  To reflect this, we have changed the status above to reflect "older children only" so that interested adopters will see this explanation.

Fuzzy just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She also raced at Dubuque and Naples Ft Myers. Fuzzy raced 131 races and won some. She competed in a couple of stakes races too. Fuzzy raced at 61lbs and will turn 4 on December 5th. Her sire is Boc's Blast Off and her dam is Superior Peace. Fuzzy is very happy and outgoing and loves attention. She loves other dogs of all sizes and gets playful and bouncy wanting to play with them. She passed her cat easily and wanted nothing to do with the cat after her first sniff led to a smack by the cat. She is being fostered with cats and is doing great with them. Fuzzy passed her test with small dogs as well, but because of her playfulness with other dogs really tiny dogs might get accidentally hurt. She would love a home with a medium or large dog though. Fuzzy crates nicely and loves belly and ear rubs. She is a real sweetheart!!!

Small Dog Tolerance:

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Halliwell Family of N. Augusta, 9.14.19

Templeton is from a litter that was all named for Charlotte's Web characters. Templeton was the very intelligent rat in the story. He is a very young guy that won't turn 2 until September 28th. His sire is Seldom Told and his dam is B My Erica. We met this litter of puppies a year ago, when they were small, on a trip to the Bolton Farm in Florida. Templeton never had an official race because he was just was not fast enough. He was pulled out of the one race he was supposed to race at the last minute. Several pictures of him and his litter as puppies is up at the Sanford Orlando Race Track, on the rail though. We have a photo of it in his pictures. We do have a few pictures of the litter from our trip to his farm last year. He was an excellent traveler on the trip back from Florida. Templeton seems pretty calm and quiet for such a young guy. He is a mid sized guy at 73lbs. Fearless and confident, he strolled right across the shiny hardwood floors without any trouble and the vacuum didn't phase him either. Templeton settled into his crate nicely and was quiet there too. He chatters his teeth when excited - some greyhounds do this and we think it is really cute. Templeton is a happy boy that comes running to see you with his tail wagging. Very sweet guy!

Fostered by (location):
Cater, Walhalla SC
Adoption Status: Adopted to the McMahan Family of Greenville SC 9.10.19

Sweet Senior! Rumble is a mid sized 73lb, friendly, brindle guy. He raced 9 races years ago at Jefferson County Kennel Club in Florida before they closed. DOB is 3/27/07 so he is a senior that qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. He was adopted way back in 2009 out of our Tri County Tech program and has been in a home since then. HIs family is having to move in with their father to take care of him and will not be able to bring their 3 senior greyhounds with them. They are asking for our help rehoming all three of their dogs. Rumble is very laid back guy. He is a leaner and wants to be with people. He is very bonded with their 11 year old female named Leena and we would love to place them together if we can. We understand that finding someone to take two 11 year olds at the same time is not something that may be possible, so we will consider placing them separately too. Their other 8 year old greyhound, Razor, would be fine being placed separately. All three dogs have the same sire Maryville Rumble. Rumble's dam is Regall Redrocket. The photos of Rumble were from when he first arrived. All three of the dogs have been living with cats. They have not lived with children but have been great with the kids they have met.

Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the McMahan Family of Greenville SC 9.10.19

Sweet Senior! Leena raced at Derby Lane, Naples Ft Myers, Sarasota, and Palm Beach Race Tracks. She was moved around a lot looking for a track she could be competitive at. After 25 races and only 1 win her owners decided she wasn't cut out to be a racer and retired her.  We placed a couple other pups her mom had too. Leena is a pretty, red brindle female with white on her feet, chest and tail that can be sensitive and a bit timid at first. DOB 10/17/06, she is 11 and will turn 12 on October 17th. Since she is a senior Leena qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. Leena has been in an adoptive home since December of 2010. Her family is having to move in with their father to care for him and they cannot bring their 3 greyhounds with them. They have made the decision to re-home their 3 senior greyhounds Leena, Rumble and Razor. Leena and Rumble are both 11 and very bonded. They sleep curled up together and often choose to sleep in the same crate together and do not like if if the are put into crates separately. It would be nice to find them a home together, but we understand that may not be possible, so will consider placing them individually. Razor is 8 years old and his owners believe he would do fine without the other two. All have the same sire Maryville Rumble and all are brindles. Leena's dam is Too Shy To Say. They have been living with cats. They have not lived with kids but have been fine with children that they have met. The photos we have now of them are from when they were younger.

El Jefe just arrived from the Sarasota Race Track. He also raced at Ebro, Melbourne and Mardi Gras. He got up to B level and won a few races off an on. He raced 60 races in all. El Jefe is a gorgeous shiny black male that raced at 68lbs and just turned 3 on March 20th. His sire is the famous Trent Lee and his dam is SH Eywa. El Jefe seems like a calm loving guy. He passed his cat test and should be able to live with small dogs as well. He is friendly and sweet. Update!  El Jefe is returning to GC through no fault of his own.  He's been living peacefully with cats, and we've been told is also perfectly safe with small dogs and children.  He might do better in a home without another large dominant male because conflict caused by a dog (not a greyhound) in his previous situation has now created a problem.  This gorgeous fella just needs some time to relax and find his new perfect family.

Adoption Status: Adopted by Dr. Dee Wiltsie of Spartanburg, SC 8/31/19

This is a rare greyhound puppy! This is a very small brindle female that won't race due to being born with a deformed leg. We will have her checked to see if there is anything that can be done for the leg after she arrives. As it is, she has no idea that anything is wrong with her or her leg. It is all she has ever known, so she has adapted and runs and plays normally. She is a very happy, outgoing pup that has quite the personality according to her owner. She is only 11 weeks old so is small right now, about the size of a large cat,  but will be nearly adult sized in 6 months. Raising a greyhound pup is nothing like adopting a retired adult racer. They are hyper and can be very destructive. Imagine having a large breed puppy that can run 40 mph and needs to run and play most of the day. If their energy isn't drained in appropriate ways they will get into trouble. A large fenced yard is required for puppy adoptions. We recommend doggy daycare unless you have other dogs that will run and play with the puppy. Running and play is important to develop the strong bones and muscles they need to prevent injuries. Crating is important for potty training and when they aren't supervised to keep the puppy and your house safe. More as we get to know her.

Washy retired from racing in July of 2016 and went back to the farm to become a mom. She had two puppies in 2016 AMF Keep Wishing and AMF You Wish who are already retired and placed in adoption groups. Those are the only two puppies registered so far but she may have other litters that are under two and not registered or racing yet. Washy is a tiny 55lb girl. She is calm and friendly. She crates very quietly and seems good on leash. She cooperated very nicely during her bath and leaned against her foster mom and rubbed her nose on her. She jumped right up into her crate in the van on the trip home. Washy's sire is Kiowa WW Brother and her dam is AMF Push. She will turn 8 on December 15th. She passed her cat test without much interest and also seemed fine with the small dog she met. She liked the kids she met too.

Miles just came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track Kennel. He also raced at Derby Lane and Palm Beach in Florida. Miles has been promised to our group since he was a puppy. He was named for one of our volunteer's dogs that passed away. We first met Miles at around 8 months old at his farm in Texas and have followed him growing up through training and his career of 81 races. We have photos of him along the way and he even has his own Facebook page for his followers so he is pretty special. Miles will turn 4 on December 10th. His sire is the famous Trent Lee and his dam is CTW Flirtatious. Miles is a smaller guy that raced at just 68lbs and is a stocky muscular guy, so is pretty short for that weight. He wasn't a great racer, mainly winning at the lower levels and only briefly getting up into the top A level one time. He was retired because he broke his outside back toe in his last race. Our vet amputated that toe and unless you count the toes you won't even notice one is missing. Miles definitely doesn't notice and has felt better since the problem toe came off. He is healed up and ready to go home now. Miles is a very outgoing guy that loves everyone he meets, kids and adults alike. He bounces happily to see you when you get home, but calms down nicely. He will stand next to you for petting for nearly as long as you will pet him. Although he is mostly quiet in his crate and crates really well, he sometimes makes some noise when he can see or hear people outside and wants to go see them. He potties nicely on walks and walks nicely on leash so wouldn't require a fenced yard. He gets along great with other dogs large and small and was living with an Italian Greyhound in his foster home and is exceptionally tolerant of the little guy. He is being fostered now with cats and is doing great with them too. Miles is a very sweet boy that loves people and is going to make a very loving pet. He is shiny and gorgeous.

Sean just retired from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race track. He is one of the Road To A Racer Alliance dogs that some of our members have been following closely. Sean liked racing but ran straight to the outside edge of the track and wouldn't run on the inside where most dogs run. He was a bit reckless and it was feared he would bump into another dog or injure himself trying to get to the edge of the track where he liked to run. So he had a very short career of only 23 races. He only won two of those. Sean came in toward the back of the pack most of the time, due to his choice to run farther around the edge of the circle. Sean is a stunning, tall black male that raced at 77lbs. He is getting ready to celebrate his 2nd birthday on August 8th. His sire is Lenson Sanchez, an Irish Sire. His dam is B My Merlot. We placed some of her other pups B Vinny Vino, B My Brandy and B Dom Perignon. We met Sean as a young guy and have followed his career so have lots of pictures of him racing and in his racing kennel. He is a happy, friendly, goofy guy that seems like he is pretty energetic and fun. Sean passed his cat and small dog tests without much interest. He obviously has been around cats because he sniffed the cat when his back was turned but as soon as the cat started to turn around Sean backed away and turned his head to avoid a pop on the nose. He wouldn't turn to look at the cat again. Sean really liked the kids in his first foster home and was fine with the small dog he met too.

This is a rare greyhound puppy born 1/28/19! She is a white female with red spots that had a muscle injury to a leg as a puppy that they thought might slow her down so decided not to race her. It is long healed and she gets around fine and plays and runs normally. We aren't even sure where the old injury was. She just arrived from a farm in Arkansas. Since she hasn't been named yet, her adoptive owner will get to do that, we have been calling her Puppy Girl. She is around 6 months old so is still very small for a greyhound at 40lbs. She will get taller and should put on some more muscle and weight as she gets closer to a year old.  Greyhound puppies aren't anything like the calm adult retired racers we are used to. Puppies are very playful and hyper and need a LOT of exercise or will become destructive and naughty. Nearly all puppies chew and dig and a large clumsy puppy that can run 40 mph isn't an easy puppy to raise for most people. A large, safe, fenced yard is required for greyhound puppy adoptions. Use of a crate will be necessary for potty training and to keep the puppy and your house safe when you aren't home or can't watch it. Unless you have other playful dogs to entertain the puppy, we recommend puppy daycare at least a couple of days a week to drain energy and for socialization with other dogs. This is especially true for people that work and have to leave the puppy home all day. Puppy Girl is very outgoing and happy. She will try to crawl in your lap and gives everyone kisses. A very sweet social girl.  She has a lot to learn and is picking up on things quickly. She had to learn like how to wear a collar and walk on leash and that trips outside are to potty and not just play and how to be quiet and well behaved in a kennel. She already wants to keep her kennel clean and will cry when she needs to go. She passed her cat test. She was excited to see the cat but was only play bowing and trying to get the cat to play with her. She was also good with the small dog she met and tried to get him to play with her. She tries to get every dog or human she meets to play with her. At this age she just wants to run and play. She loves kids too.

Louise came in from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced her entire career of 107 races at that track. Louise raced at 66lbs and is a pretty red girl. She just turned 4 on May 18th. Her sire is the famous Barcelona Boss and her dam is Flying Loki. Louise is very outgoing and waggy. She loves everyone she meets- adults, kids and other dogs. We noticed that she seems to like to snuggle up with other dogs and people and doesn't seem to be bothered by being bumped or stepped over by other dogs. She was interested in the cat on first meeting, but after a slap from the cat did not want to go back to see it again. We think she may be trainable with cats, especially with a cat that would stand its ground. Louise has been very vocal so wouldn't be a good choice for apartment or townhome living. She is was initially fostered with several young kids and seemed to really like them. She is a very happy, friendly girl with a lot of personality. Louise was in an adoptive home for over a month, but their male greyhound never seemed to like having another dog in the house and seemed withdrawn and depressed. So they are honoring his wishes to be an only dog and Louise is looking for another home. Her family reports that it isn't anything Louise has done, she is a really sweet girl that is very friendly and loving. She tries to interact with their male greyhound and is very good with him but he just isn't interested.

Willow is a very tiny girl that came in initially from the Daytona Beach Race Track on Oct 19th of 2016. She has only 29 races listed in 2015 at Sanford Orlando, Dubuque and Orange Park and never actually raced at Daytona Beach. She ended up being off from racing for a year having trouble with one of her toes. Eventually they had the problem toe amputated, so it wouldn't bother her anymore, and it is long since healed. Her racing owner decided to go ahead and retire her so we got her after the toe amputation. Willow is a tiny, fawn, female that weighs just 53lbs.  Dark sable tips on some of her fawn fur, gives her a very beautiful look. Her sire is Afleet Alex and her dam is WW Crystal Farm.  She is described as a bit higher energy, happy, waggy and very outgoing. She has had a salivary gland that leaks since before we got her, so she has a little fold under her skin under her head. It is nothing to worry about and doesn't bother her a bit according to our vets. Willow has been in a home since she was adopted in 2016. They have recently reported what sounds like some separation anxiety based accidents in her kennel when left alone.  We had her checked by our vet to rule out a physical cause and she is fine. She may just need to be in a home with another dog for company. So far she has done really well in her foster home with other dogs and hasn't had any accidents. Willow will celebrate her 6th birthday on August 28th. She did not pass her cat test so needs a home without cats. Willow is being fostered with small dogs and is doing great with them. She was good with her trainers children ages 5-11. She can be vocal in her kennel so won't be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living. Willow travels really well and settled into her foster home right away. She is so tiny that she curled up in a small rocking chair in her foster home and went to sleep. Yes we have pictures of that. She is the first greyhound that has ever done that in her foster mom's home. The most recent photos of her are the ones with more white on her face. The others were taken when she first arrived. Willow is a sweet friendly girl that is very happy and outgoing. You would never know she is 6 years old.

Rumor initially arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She was known as Cutie then and is a littermate to one of our volunteer's dogs. She was a good racer and raced 102 races getting up to the top A level. Rumor raced at 66lbs. She retired in December of 2016 and has been in an adoptive home since February of 2017. She will turn 6 on December 5th. Her sire is Dusty Outback and her dam is Nightingale. Rumor quickly checked out the house, found the dog bed, and laid down. She hasn't gotten into anything and followed the other dogs up and down the stairs with no problem. She is a calm, friendly girl. She gets along well with other dogs too. She didn't seem too interested in chasing cats when she met them, so she may do fine in a home with cats. Rumor whines to let you know when she needs to go outside and crates well. She seems like she is a very easy, well behaved girl. She will put her head in your lap to be petted and just stand there as long as you will pet her. Be sure to look at her other pictures to see some really cute ones of her as a baby! Cutie was adopted in Feb of 2017 at 3 years old and renamed Rumor. She lived with another greyhound named Rory who is 8 years old. They are very bonded and they are looking for a home together. Rumor and Rory are available because their owner just died in a tragic tubing accident. She has been freshly vetted including having a few bad teeth pulled and is ready to start her new life.

Rory raced 61 races at the Mobile AL track before retiring in May of 2014. He only won 5 of those races and competed at the lower racing levels mostly placing. He turned 8 on March 6th and raced at 73lbs. His sire is Kiowa Power Pak and his dam is CTW Diamond Diva. We don't know much about Rory since we didn't place him initially, but it looks like he was adopted by his family sometime in 2014. They adopted a female greyhound, they called Rumor, from us in 2017 to keep him company. Rumor and Rory are very bonded and are available for adoption together. They were very loved and are only available for adoption because their owner passed away in a tragic tubing accident. Rory is very sweet and friendly. He can be a little anxious about some things though and has some prescribed medication from the vet that helps him with that. We were told that he didn't crate or ride well in cars, but he did really well on the short trip to the vet in a crate, so he may have gotten better about that. Rory is a very sweet guy that seems very calm and lower energy like you would expect from an older gentleman. He did not pass his cat test so needs a home without kitties. Rory is a very cute guy with a light tan/fawn coat and ears that stand straight up when he is curious about something. He is a very well behaved guy. His former owner used to work at a doggy daycare so both dogs are very used to being around other dogs. Rory and Rumor are staying together in foster care until they are adopted.

Cluster just arrived from the adoption kennel at the Jacksonville Race Course. She raced in the Lester Raines Kennel but retired in October of 2018. She was placed locally and was with her adopter in Jacksonville for about 4 months before being returned to the track adoption kennel. We just picked her up on a group track trip and brought her into a foster home, so she didn't have to stay in the kennel. Cluster is a gorgeous, shiny, black female with a small white blaze on her nose, white chest and white socks. Her sire is BD's Grayson and her dam is Kelsos Jenna. We placed her littermate Kelsos Rudy last November and a dog that has the same mom Kelsos BlueSmoke too. Cluster is a confident, happy girl. She can be a bit bossy at first so may need to be in a home with a male dog that doesn't mind having a bossy girlfriend (most don't) or a more submissive female. Cluster lived as an only dog with her previous family but she seems to be more comfortable with other dogs around and is doing great in her foster home with several other dogs. Cluster is VERY outgoing with people and doesn't seem to be stressed by the move from Florida into a foster home. She prances into a new home with her head and tail high and wagging. She goes straight up to everyone she meets happily for affection and usually tries to put her paws up on your chest to give hugs. We are discouraging the hugs, since she is a big dog, even though it is pretty sweet and cute. Her previous owner said she had growled a few times when being handled by strangers, but the original adoption kennel never saw any growls directed at humans and we haven't either. We weren't able to get much info on context of when the growls occurred from her, but in our experience, it usually happens when a dog is laying down or sleeping. She loved the kids she was introduced to, but because of the reported growls, we think a home without small kids would be best for her. She has been fine with the small dogs she has met but still needs testing with cats. This girl is personality plus and so stunning! If you want a happy fun girl that is full of personality, Cluster could be the one.

Fly just arrived from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He is a handsome, tall, black male that raced at 72lbs. He turned 2 on February 4th. His sire is the famous Defrim Bale and his dam is Kiowa Jill Vik. Fly only raced 12 races and didn't place in one of them. He started out his career at the Lester Raines Kennel at Palm Beach before being moved to Sanford Orlando. He is being fostered with small dogs and is great with them. He also passed his cat test pretty easily. He excitedly sniffed the cat then walked away. That is pretty much his response to anything new, get excited, sniff then check out the next thing. Fly also has liked all the kids he has met, very much. He is so big and goofy that he might accidentally knock down toddlers that weren't steady on their feet though just because he is so happy to see them. He was pretty loud in his kennel so may not be a good choice for apartment living. Fly went right up steps the first time he tried them. He is very sweet and social and has the most beautiful shiny black coat! Fly is an fun, happy, goofy guy. He stood up looking out the windows and panting most of the trip up from Florida. He panted a lot and seemed very excited about everything new in his foster home too, at first. He seems more excitable and curious about everything new, than scared, because he doesn't have his tail tucked. He needs a little work on leash because he pulls, but he does calm down pretty fast. This is a super sweet guy that loves people and will be a lot of fun for a family that wants a dog that will enjoy doing things with them.

He is a smart guy that figured out how to get his muzzle off in the starting box before the race, so raced a few races without one. He is an extra large male that raced at 84lbs. He just turned 3 on December 12th. Duke's sire is the famous Trent Lee and his dam is Flying Bluefield. Duke is pretty perfect according to his foster mom but he does like to chew on things sometimes. A very friendly loving boy! No marking in her house and he gets along great with her dogs including one small terrier. He seems like he learns fast and trains easily. Duke did not pass his cat test so needs a home with no kitties. He did do fine with small dogs he met.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Fulton family of Greendale, IN 7/19/19

Mogul is a red female that just arrived from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She is young and won't turn two until July 31st. Mogul was not fast enough to race but she definitely has the drive to race and chase, so we know she gave it her best shot. She really wanted to get to the cat and chase it during her cat test. The cat slapping her had no effect on her whatsoever, so she definitely can not live with kitties. With her high prey drive we figured she would not be good with small dogs either, but she showed no interest in chasing the Italian Greyhound she met. She seems like she will be fine with some small dogs with an introduction so she knows what they are. Her sire is the famous Dodgem By Design and her dam is KB's Brite Lite. Mogul is an adorable red girl with a dark curly tail that almost hangs in corkscrew at times and curls up over her back sometimes too. She has the cutest floppy ears. Mogul has a great personality and is very waggy and very happy and loves people. Mogul can be loud in her kennel so may not be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living. She was pretty excitable around the small kids she met and wanted to get their toys and blankets, so we think she would do best in a home without small kids. Although she is very young and has a high prey drive, she does seem to calm down nicely. Her foster home, describes Mogul as "personality plus". Even though she is quite friendly she does have a very submissive side and will come up to you with her body and head low and tail wagging. She seems to be the same with other dogs and isn't pushy with anyone. Care should be taken with introductions to dogs that are fuzzy because she tends to mistake anything fuzzy for a lure. Even our laundry. She loves toys but gets overly excited about them and tends to take them apart. This is a cute girl that is young and is still learning what everything is.

T Man just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park Track in Florida. He is a very young guy that never had an official race. T Man was retired due to being very shy. He would run away from people trying to catch him at the end of races. He is a very shy boy and the move to the track, from the farm ,was just too much for him. T Man is very nervous around people he doesn't know but is warming up to his foster mom. He won't even turn 2 until November 4th, so is still a pup. His sire is Touch Tackle and his dam is DK's Tanstafel.  T Man is a genetically shy dog that isn't going to become a social butterfly after a few days or weeks, it is just his personality. His family will need to be understanding and committed to working with him long term until he gets comfortable with them. It may take weeks, months or even a year. He may never be comfortable enough to want to go places outside his home and his family needs to be OK with him just the way he is and not expect him to change much. T Man is similar to a human with an anxiety disorder.  He is timid and shy in social settings and he is very uncomfortable outside of his familiar surroundings. This is inherited shyness and not from anything anyone did to him. He is being fostered with cats and is also fine with other dogs large and small. He is a little shy with other dogs too at first and doesn't interact much. He has been very tolerant of dogs taking toys and bothering him though. He has warmed up to his foster housemates and is starting to play with them.  Since T Man never raced we don't have a racing weight for him. His foster mom leashed walked him to potty inside her fenced yard until he got comfortable enough to let her catch him. He is off leash now and comes running back into the house. After a little over a week he has started approaching his foster mom for affection and is OK with her walking toward him as long as she moves slowly. He is more skittish when visitors come over. Because he is so timid he is likely to be scared of the fast movements and loud noises that children and their toys and friends make. We would prefer to put him into a quiet home with older calm kids or no kids.

At one point he won 6 A level races in a row. He raced his entire career at that track. We placed his sister Atascocita Prema so are happy to be getting him now too. Toppy turned 4 on February 13th and he raced at 71lbs. His sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is Atascocita Golda. Toppy has very cute stand up ears. He passed his cat test and is being fostered so would be a great choice for a home with cats. Toppy is a very friendly, happy, guy that just loves people. He goes up to everyone he meets, adults and children. He is curious about everything and seems to not be phased much by anything new. He seems like a pretty confident guy. Toppy isn't a fan of his crate and can be pretty vocal about it, so may not be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living. He is smart and it only took one day to house train him. Even though Toppy is 4, he still likes to taste things, so supervision will be necessary until he learns what is OK to chew on and what is not. He has not tried to get up on the furniture yet and prefers to lay on a dog bed. He gets along well with other dogs but does grumble some if they try to share a dog bed with him. Toppy is a very sweet boy that gives kisses and loves to be near people more than anything else. He is very goofy and fun. Even though he hasn't growled at humans over his bed and actually loves small kids, we would rather err on the side of caution and place him in a home with older kids that could understand that some dogs don't care for being bothered when sleeping or laying down.

Jade came to us in from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She had a very long career of 172 races. She started out at Dubuque and then was moved to Southland in Arkansas. From there she went to Melbourne Fl to race. That was the track that she finally started doing well at, and she got up to the top A level there. When that track closed, she went to Sarasota then back to Dubuque and on to Mardi Gras. Then she went back to Dubuque before going back to Florida to Naples Ft Myers and finally Sanford Orlando. So it is pretty safe to say that Jade is very used to traveling. Some tracks are more competitive than others, so dogs frequently move around to lower level or higher levels tracks depending on their racing skill. Even though she got up to A level, and had a very long career, Jade mostly placed and didn't win as much as some. She raced at 64lbs and has a cute light fawn coat with black brindle stripes that we don't see that often. She will turn 5 on December 8th. Her sire is PG Tiger and her dam is Flying Kresley. She was interested in the cat at first, but after sniffing she seemed to lose interest pretty fast, so we thought she was very trainable. As the cat test finished up she saw another cat that bolted past her and she got overly excited about the cats again so she needs further testing. Jade came in specifically for a family that wanted her so they are working with her with their cats to see if she can get used to seeing them move around her. She was a kennel favorite with the daughter of her trainer at one kennel and they would love to keep up with her in retirement. She is a very sweet girl that is very outgoing and curious. She wags and leans in to snuggle with people. She likes other dogs and seems to get along great with everyone. She did OK with the small dog she met, after she sniffed it and figured out what it was. She seemed to like the small kids she met too.

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Glymph, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Lohoefer family of Myrtle Beach 6/23/19

Doc came in from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track in February. He only has one race listed and he finished last. He wasn't much better in his previous schooling races. His trainers say that he would be a good candidate for dog sports because he is injury free and just not quite fast enough for the professional track. He is very young and just turned 2 on May 27th. His sire is the famous Cayman Went and his dam is D's Overthemoon. Doc is a big brindle guy that raced at 80lbs. Doc was a little overwhelmed and nervous when he first arrived, but warmed up in his foster home and quickly became a happy, goofy guy. When he first came in, he would shy away if you reached for him, but would come right up if another greyhound was getting petted. He needed a little work on leash because he tried to backup or bolt if something surprised him. Doc is very quiet in his crate and is being fostered in a townhouse, so should be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living. Doc was adopted March 1st and was renamed Tigger. He is being returned to us because he growled at a child that was leaning on him and petting him, to comfort him, after he had already had a stressful day that included an upset tummy from being fed too much and a bath. A growl is the only way a dog has to say he doesn't like something and actually shows that the dog would rather warn than actually bite. Doc has always been a sweet guy that likes people and even kids, but will need to be placed in a home where everyone understands the old saying "Let a sleeping dog lie". Many dogs don't like to have someone lean on them or pet them when they are laying down resting, even when awake.

Her sire is the famous Trent Lee and her dam is Dakota's Peggey. She just turned 2 on April 4th and raced at 66lbs. Mator is just a little less outgoing than her sisters but still friendly. She is just one that will stand back and let the others get most of the attention first. She is good on leash and pretty calm. Mator liked the kids she met. More as we get to know her.

She is a bouncy, sweet, people-oriented girl that passed her cat and small dog tests easily. She was much more interested in interacting with the people than seeing the cats or small dog.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the St Clair Family of North Myrtle Beach 6/12/19

Sweet Girl just arrived from a Florida farm. She never made it to the race track and flunked out of training because she would play with the other dogs instead of chasing the lure. That is called interfering and dogs that do that aren't allowed to race. Sweet girl is a very young girl that won't turn 2 until August 26th. Her sire is the famous DJays Octane and her dam is KB's Go Mama. She is pretty tall for a girl and weighs about 65lbs. Sweet Girl is friendly and loving with people and kids she has met. She has been just a little overwhelmed with all the new sights and sounds in her retired life though and can be a bit jumpy. Sweet girl walks well on leash and travels very well. She kennels well too and sleeps through the night quietly. Her foster mom has reported that she is not good with other dogs when being fed and she guards her food. She hasn't shown any food aggression with people at all, but we would rather place her in a home without small kids, that would be carrying food and dropping food, just be extra cautious. So far sweet girl has only really gone after another female dog that got too close to her food and left a male alone that was even closer. She may need to be placed as an only dog unless her family was very diligent about feeding and giving treats separately. Sweet girl is the cutest thing and passed her cat test easily without any interest.

She started out racing at Mardi Gras briefly then was moved to Sanford Orlando to race. She was pretty good, getting up to A level for part of her career. She started slowing down now, so was retired. Her sire is Kelsos Bogman and her dam is Valeri Deer. Rag Doll just turned 4 on May 2nd. She is a very calm girl that passed her cat test easily with no interest in them. She was also fine with the small dog she met. She is quiet in her kennel and pretty good on leash too. She liked the kids she met. She is just a little overwhelmed by everything new but doesn't really seem to be shy and will go up to people for attention. Rag Doll had to have 11 teeth taken out at the vet so will need to have good dental care and maintenance to save the rest of her teeth. She is able to eat just fine with the her remaining teeth. Ellie just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race Track. She arrived with her sister TMC's Mistimagic. Ellie never raced and flunked out of the training phase at the race track. She just didn't show much promise as a racer so was retired young. Ellie won't even turn 2 until October 31st. She is a small girl around 60lbs. She is the more outgoing of the two girls and doesn't seem to be phased by all the new things in her retired life. She is calm for one so young, but does get excited sometimes and bounces. She jumped up on people when she first arrived, but after the initial excitement wore off she stopped. She was very calm in her foster home and exceptionally quiet in her crate. Ellie just lays down and goes to sleep in her kennel, so she may be perfect for apartment or townhouse living. She pulls just a little on leash because she is curious about everything, but is already getting better with just a little coaching. Ellie seems like a smart, friendly girl that is going to be very social and fun. She passed her cat and small dog tests easily and was more interested in checking out the room and getting attention from all the new people. Ellie liked the small kids she met too. She seems to enjoy traveling and just lays down for the ride.  Her sire is Time Flies and her dam is TMC's Mcjosalyn. Ellie was vetted in Clinton SC and is ready to go home.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Freeman Family of Columbia SC, 6.8.19

Vinny just arrived from the Bolton Racing Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. We placed his littermates B Dom Perignon and B My Brandy already. Some of our volunteers co-own his sister B My Sherry who is still racing. Vinny raced 45 races and also raced at Naples Ft Myers in Florida. He had a great start in racing winning his first 4 races and going straight up to the top A level. Vinny mainly competed at the top A and B levels. In early September he got bumped by another dog during a race and hurt his hip. They took him out of racing to heal up for over 2 months. He started racing again in November and won his first race at the top A level, so seemed to be completely healed up. He got bumped again in another race and slowed down just a bit and started dropping levels. His trainer found that he had a little soreness in his hip right after races, so they decided to retire him. He is not limping now and his hip should not bother him as a pet. Since Vinny retired due to soreness he should stay retired and not do lure coursing or agility. He is fine to run and play normally and shouldn't have any trouble as a pet. Vinny turned 3 on May 18th. His sire is Golden Squire and his dam is B My Merlot. He passed his cat and small dog tests very easily without any interest in either. He just stepped over the small dog as if he wasn't even there. Vinny was vetted in Columbia and his foster mom decided to keep him.

Misti just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race Track. She arrived with her sister TMC's CandyKrush. Both are very young girls that flunked out of training at the track. Just not that interested in racing or not quite fast enough to be competitive. Misti won't even turn 2 until October 31st. Misti is a friendly girl but was a little overwhelmed when she first arrived. She seemed just a little nervous with everything new not so much with people. She goes up to people and gives kisses. Misti was well behaved in her kennel. She didn't have any accidents in the house and was doing great on her potty training in her foster home. She seems very calm and well behaved for a girl that is still almost a puppy. She was curious about the small dog and cat on first meeting but just sniffed. The cat did have to slap her a few times because she kept sniffing. She did great in a foster home with cats and around a small dog in another home. She was very good with the other dogs in her foster home too and gives new dogs kisses that she meets. She seemed to like the small kids she met too. Misti likes to travel and just gets in and lays down. She is also very good on leash. Her sire is TIme Flies and her dam is TMC's Mcjoslyn. Misti was vetted in Clinton SC and is ready to go home.

August is a beautiful red girl that just arrived from Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She also raced at Dubuque and Mardi Gras race tracks. She retired after racing 69 times because she had a sore shoulder. August got bumped in a race back in November and hurt her shoulder. Her trainer took her out of racing for several months, waited for her shoulder to heal, and got her back into racing condition. He tried racing her again in March and she actually won a race and placed a couple of times and stayed racing until May. Her shoulder was a little sore after races though, so the decision was made to retired her. August is not limping now and doesn't seem to be bothered by her shoulder. Our vet looked at it and thinks she will be fine as a pet, but shouldn't do agility or coursing or other performance dog events. Our vet said she may have a little arthritis in her shoulder as she ages. There is a slight chance she could need surgery, in the future, if she re-injures her shoulder and makes it worse. August's litter was given racing names of large stores. She got Costco and yes there is a Sam's, Best Buy, K Mart and Target too. August just turned 3 on May 20th. Her sire is the famous BD's Grayson and her dam is Flying Kinney. August passed her cat and small dog tests without any interest in either. She also liked the kids she met. August is a very friendly girl that doesn't seem to meet a stranger. She likes other dogs and people she meets and seems like a happy waggy girl. She travels well and jumps right up into an SUV or backseat on command and settles right down for the trip. August was vetted in Clinton SC and is ready to go home.

Sherwin just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park. He only had 3 schooling races and finished toward the back of the pack in the first two and pulled up and nearly stopped in the last one. His last race was in January so he may have been rehabbing from an injury in that last race, since he was at the track so long before they made the decision to retire him. Sherwin raced at 75lbs and is young - he won't turn 2 until June 20th. His sire is P's Gibbs and his dam is Zero. He seemed a little timid and overwhelmed when he first arrived but warmed up right away in foster care. After just a day or two he has become a friendly guy that loves attention. He is great with the other greyhounds, male and female in his foster home. He also passed his cat and small dog tests easily. Sherwin can be a little loud in his kennel so may not be a good choice for apartment living. He loves to lay on doggy beds and is slowly learning the wood floors and stairs at his foster home. He has done great with his potty training and hasn't had one accident in the house and seems to have good house manners already.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Phillips family of Traveler's Rest, SC, 5.25.19

Dan is a gentle giant giant racing at 82lbs. He is very tall and narrow and his back is nearly hip high. He raced at Flagler, Naples Ft Myers, Sarasota, Ebro and Southland. He was good, winning at A level at Sarasota and Ebro. After Dan retired he was sent to the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Group to be sent out to one of the adoption groups they deliver dogs to and we got him from there. Dan just turned 3 on January 16th. His sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Flying Devlin. He is a sweet outgoing guy that just wants to be close to you. Dan will lean against you for greyhound hugs. He didn't seem to be stressed by traveling but likes to stand up and see where he was going. He seems like he has an easy going personality and isn't stressed by much. He was fine with the white 15lb Italian greyhound he was introduced to and a black fuzzy dog so should be fine to live with them. He has the softest fuzzy coat and is very furry for a greyhound. He is doing great on his potty training and seems to be a big teddy bear of a boy. Dan was adopted and in a home for about a month. Initially he was fine with the 3.5 year old child in the home, but gradually he started to get annoyed with him and didn't like him stepping over him and moving around him when he was laying down. So even though he really likes kids, in smaller doses, we think he would prefer to live in a home that doesn't have small kids.
