Sean just retired from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race track. He is one of the Road To A Racer Alliance dogs that some of our members have been following closely. Sean liked racing but ran straight to the outside edge of the track and wouldn't run on the inside where most dogs run. He was a bit reckless and it was feared he would bump into another dog or injure himself trying to get to the edge of the track where he liked to run. So he had a very short career of only 23 races. He only won two of those. Sean came in toward the back of the pack most of the time, due to his choice to run farther around the edge of the circle. Sean is a stunning, tall black male that raced at 77lbs. He is getting ready to celebrate his 2nd birthday on August 8th. His sire is Lenson Sanchez, an Irish Sire. His dam is B My Merlot. We placed some of her other pups B Vinny Vino, B My Brandy and B Dom Perignon. We met Sean as a young guy and have followed his career so have lots of pictures of him racing and in his racing kennel. He is a happy, friendly, goofy guy that seems like he is pretty energetic and fun. Sean passed his cat and small dog tests without much interest. He obviously has been around cats because he sniffed the cat when his back was turned but as soon as the cat started to turn around Sean backed away and turned his head to avoid a pop on the nose. He wouldn't turn to look at the cat again. Sean really liked the kids in his first foster home and was fine with the small dog he met too.

Cookie just arrived the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She had a good career of 96 races there and raced much of her career at the top A level. She turned 3 on June 15th. Her sire is the very famous Lonesome Cry. We have placed a lot of his puppies. Her dam is Stevie Nicks and we have placed one of Cookie's half sisters named In A Blinkofaeye. Cookie is a sweet friendly girl that seems pretty calm. She is a rare light fawn, a very light blonde color with big dark eyes. She just stares at you when she wants attention. Cookie passed her cat test at the vets office and was around a small white dog when she first arrived and was fine with him too. She is a very sweet girl that is doing great in foster care. Her foster mom says that if she even has to tell her no, she responds right away.

Puppy Girl
Racing Name:
Puppy Girl
Pet/Kennel Name:
Puppy Girl
Age:
6 months
Color/Gender:
White Female with Red Spots
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Johnson, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Neal Family of Greer SC 8/12/19

This is a rare greyhound puppy born 1/28/19! She is a white female with red spots that had a muscle injury to a leg as a puppy that they thought might slow her down so decided not to race her. It is long healed and she gets around fine and plays and runs normally. We aren't even sure where the old injury was. She just arrived from a farm in Arkansas. Since she hasn't been named yet, her adoptive owner will get to do that, we have been calling her Puppy Girl. She is around 6 months old so is still very small for a greyhound at 40lbs. She will get taller and should put on some more muscle and weight as she gets closer to a year old.  Greyhound puppies aren't anything like the calm adult retired racers we are used to. Puppies are very playful and hyper and need a LOT of exercise or will become destructive and naughty. Nearly all puppies chew and dig and a large clumsy puppy that can run 40 mph isn't an easy puppy to raise for most people. A large, safe, fenced yard is required for greyhound puppy adoptions. Use of a crate will be necessary for potty training and to keep the puppy and your house safe when you aren't home or can't watch it. Unless you have other playful dogs to entertain the puppy, we recommend puppy daycare at least a couple of days a week to drain energy and for socialization with other dogs. This is especially true for people that work and have to leave the puppy home all day. Puppy Girl is very outgoing and happy. She will try to crawl in your lap and gives everyone kisses. A very sweet social girl.  She has a lot to learn and is picking up on things quickly. She had to learn like how to wear a collar and walk on leash and that trips outside are to potty and not just play and how to be quiet and well behaved in a kennel. She already wants to keep her kennel clean and will cry when she needs to go. She passed her cat test. She was excited to see the cat but was only play bowing and trying to get the cat to play with her. She was also good with the small dog she met and tried to get him to play with her. She tries to get every dog or human she meets to play with her. At this age she just wants to run and play. She loves kids too.

AMF Lookin Good
Racing Name:
AMF Lookin Good
Pet/Kennel Name:
Louise
Age:
4
Color/Gender:
Red Female
Cat Tolerance:
Trainable
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Cole, Chapin SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Martin Family of Charlotte NC 8/9/19

Louise came in from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced her entire career of 107 races at that track. Louise raced at 66lbs and is a pretty red girl. She just turned 4 on May 18th. Her sire is the famous Barcelona Boss and her dam is Flying Loki. Louise is very outgoing and waggy. She loves everyone she meets- adults, kids and other dogs. We noticed that she seems to like to snuggle up with other dogs and people and doesn't seem to be bothered by being bumped or stepped over by other dogs. She was interested in the cat on first meeting, but after a slap from the cat did not want to go back to see it again. We think she may be trainable with cats, especially with a cat that would stand its ground. Louise has been very vocal so wouldn't be a good choice for apartment or townhome living. She is was initially fostered with several young kids and seemed to really like them. She is a very happy, friendly girl with a lot of personality. Louise was in an adoptive home for over a month, but their male greyhound never seemed to like having another dog in the house and seemed withdrawn and depressed. So they are honoring his wishes to be an only dog and Louise is looking for another home. Her family reports that it isn't anything Louise has done, she is a really sweet girl that is very friendly and loving. She tries to interact with their male greyhound and is very good with him but he just isn't interested.

WW's Willoughby
Racing Name:
WW's Willoughby
Pet/Kennel Name:
Willow
Age:
almost 6
Color/Gender:
Fawn Female
Cat Tolerance:
No
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Bowden, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Raines Family of Lexington SC 8/5/19

Willow is a very tiny girl that came in initially from the Daytona Beach Race Track on Oct 19th of 2016. She has only 29 races listed in 2015 at Sanford Orlando, Dubuque and Orange Park and never actually raced at Daytona Beach. She ended up being off from racing for a year having trouble with one of her toes. Eventually they had the problem toe amputated, so it wouldn't bother her anymore, and it is long since healed. Her racing owner decided to go ahead and retire her so we got her after the toe amputation. Willow is a tiny, fawn, female that weighs just 53lbs.  Dark sable tips on some of her fawn fur, gives her a very beautiful look. Her sire is Afleet Alex and her dam is WW Crystal Farm.  She is described as a bit higher energy, happy, waggy and very outgoing. She has had a salivary gland that leaks since before we got her, so she has a little fold under her skin under her head. It is nothing to worry about and doesn't bother her a bit according to our vets. Willow has been in a home since she was adopted in 2016. They have recently reported what sounds like some separation anxiety based accidents in her kennel when left alone.  We had her checked by our vet to rule out a physical cause and she is fine. She may just need to be in a home with another dog for company. So far she has done really well in her foster home with other dogs and hasn't had any accidents. Willow will celebrate her 6th birthday on August 28th. She did not pass her cat test so needs a home without cats. Willow is being fostered with small dogs and is doing great with them. She was good with her trainers children ages 5-11. She can be vocal in her kennel so won't be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living. Willow travels really well and settled into her foster home right away. She is so tiny that she curled up in a small rocking chair in her foster home and went to sleep. Yes we have pictures of that. She is the first greyhound that has ever done that in her foster mom's home. The most recent photos of her are the ones with more white on her face. The others were taken when she first arrived. Willow is a sweet friendly girl that is very happy and outgoing. You would never know she is 6 years old.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Greig family of Rembert SC 8/4/19

Rumor initially arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She was known as Cutie then and is a littermate to one of our volunteer's dogs. She was a good racer and raced 102 races getting up to the top A level. Rumor raced at 66lbs. She retired in December of 2016 and has been in an adoptive home since February of 2017. She will turn 6 on December 5th. Her sire is Dusty Outback and her dam is Nightingale. Rumor quickly checked out the house, found the dog bed, and laid down. She hasn't gotten into anything and followed the other dogs up and down the stairs with no problem. She is a calm, friendly girl. She gets along well with other dogs too. She didn't seem too interested in chasing cats when she met them, so she may do fine in a home with cats. Rumor whines to let you know when she needs to go outside and crates well. She seems like she is a very easy, well behaved girl. She will put her head in your lap to be petted and just stand there as long as you will pet her. Be sure to look at her other pictures to see some really cute ones of her as a baby! Cutie was adopted in Feb of 2017 at 3 years old and renamed Rumor. She lived with another greyhound named Rory who is 8 years old. They are very bonded and they are looking for a home together. Rumor and Rory are available because their owner just died in a tragic tubing accident. She has been freshly vetted including having a few bad teeth pulled and is ready to start her new life.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Greig family of Rembert SC 8/4/19

Rory raced 61 races at the Mobile AL track before retiring in May of 2014. He only won 5 of those races and competed at the lower racing levels mostly placing. He turned 8 on March 6th and raced at 73lbs. His sire is Kiowa Power Pak and his dam is CTW Diamond Diva. We don't know much about Rory since we didn't place him initially, but it looks like he was adopted by his family sometime in 2014. They adopted a female greyhound, they called Rumor, from us in 2017 to keep him company. Rumor and Rory are very bonded and are available for adoption together. They were very loved and are only available for adoption because their owner passed away in a tragic tubing accident. Rory is very sweet and friendly. He can be a little anxious about some things though and has some prescribed medication from the vet that helps him with that. We were told that he didn't crate or ride well in cars, but he did really well on the short trip to the vet in a crate, so he may have gotten better about that. Rory is a very sweet guy that seems very calm and lower energy like you would expect from an older gentleman. He did not pass his cat test so needs a home without kitties. Rory is a very cute guy with a light tan/fawn coat and ears that stand straight up when he is curious about something. He is a very well behaved guy. His former owner used to work at a doggy daycare so both dogs are very used to being around other dogs. Rory and Rumor are staying together in foster care until they are adopted.

Kelsos Cluster

Pet/Kennel Name:
Cluster
Age:
3
Color/Gender:
Black Female
Cat Tolerance:
Testing
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):
Kovacs, Easley SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Kovaks Family of Easley 8/1/19

Cluster just arrived from the adoption kennel at the Jacksonville Race Course. She raced in the Lester Raines Kennel but retired in October of 2018. She was placed locally and was with her adopter in Jacksonville for about 4 months before being returned to the track adoption kennel. We just picked her up on a group track trip and brought her into a foster home, so she didn't have to stay in the kennel. Cluster is a gorgeous, shiny, black female with a small white blaze on her nose, white chest and white socks. Her sire is BD's Grayson and her dam is Kelsos Jenna. We placed her littermate Kelsos Rudy last November and a dog that has the same mom Kelsos BlueSmoke too. Cluster is a confident, happy girl. She can be a bit bossy at first so may need to be in a home with a male dog that doesn't mind having a bossy girlfriend (most don't) or a more submissive female. Cluster lived as an only dog with her previous family but she seems to be more comfortable with other dogs around and is doing great in her foster home with several other dogs. Cluster is VERY outgoing with people and doesn't seem to be stressed by the move from Florida into a foster home. She prances into a new home with her head and tail high and wagging. She goes straight up to everyone she meets happily for affection and usually tries to put her paws up on your chest to give hugs. We are discouraging the hugs, since she is a big dog, even though it is pretty sweet and cute. Her previous owner said she had growled a few times when being handled by strangers, but the original adoption kennel never saw any growls directed at humans and we haven't either. We weren't able to get much info on context of when the growls occurred from her, but in our experience, it usually happens when a dog is laying down or sleeping. She loved the kids she was introduced to, but because of the reported growls, we think a home without small kids would be best for her. She has been fine with the small dogs she has met but still needs testing with cats. This girl is personality plus and so stunning! If you want a happy fun girl that is full of personality, Cluster could be the one.

Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Kelly, Mauldin SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Pollock Family of Columbia SC 7/21/19

Fly just arrived from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He is a handsome, tall, black male that raced at 72lbs. He turned 2 on February 4th. His sire is the famous Defrim Bale and his dam is Kiowa Jill Vik. Fly only raced 12 races and didn't place in one of them. He started out his career at the Lester Raines Kennel at Palm Beach before being moved to Sanford Orlando. He is being fostered with small dogs and is great with them. He also passed his cat test pretty easily. He excitedly sniffed the cat then walked away. That is pretty much his response to anything new, get excited, sniff then check out the next thing. Fly also has liked all the kids he has met, very much. He is so big and goofy that he might accidentally knock down toddlers that weren't steady on their feet though just because he is so happy to see them. He was pretty loud in his kennel so may not be a good choice for apartment living. Fly went right up steps the first time he tried them. He is very sweet and social and has the most beautiful shiny black coat! Fly is an fun, happy, goofy guy. He stood up looking out the windows and panting most of the trip up from Florida. He panted a lot and seemed very excited about everything new in his foster home too, at first. He seems more excitable and curious about everything new, than scared, because he doesn't have his tail tucked. He needs a little work on leash because he pulls, but he does calm down pretty fast. This is a super sweet guy that loves people and will be a lot of fun for a family that wants a dog that will enjoy doing things with them.

He is a smart guy that figured out how to get his muzzle off in the starting box before the race, so raced a few races without one. He is an extra large male that raced at 84lbs. He just turned 3 on December 12th. Duke's sire is the famous Trent Lee and his dam is Flying Bluefield. Duke is pretty perfect according to his foster mom but he does like to chew on things sometimes. A very friendly loving boy! No marking in her house and he gets along great with her dogs including one small terrier. He seems like he learns fast and trains easily. Duke did not pass his cat test so needs a home with no kitties. He did do fine with small dogs he met.

LN Travlin Man

Age:

Color/Gender:
Brindle Male

Testing
Small Dog Tolerance:
Testing
Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):
Ng, Columbia SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Aycock Family of Summerville SC 7/14/19

T Man just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park Track in Florida. He is a very young guy that never had an official race. T Man was retired due to being very shy. He would run away from people trying to catch him at the end of races. He is a very shy boy and the move to the track, from the farm ,was just too much for him. T Man is very nervous around people he doesn't know but is warming up to his foster mom. He won't even turn 2 until November 4th, so is still a pup. His sire is Touch Tackle and his dam is DK's Tanstafel.  T Man is a genetically shy dog that isn't going to become a social butterfly after a few days or weeks, it is just his personality. His family will need to be understanding and committed to working with him long term until he gets comfortable with them. It may take weeks, months or even a year. He may never be comfortable enough to want to go places outside his home and his family needs to be OK with him just the way he is and not expect him to change much. T Man is similar to a human with an anxiety disorder.  He is timid and shy in social settings and he is very uncomfortable outside of his familiar surroundings. This is inherited shyness and not from anything anyone did to him. He is being fostered with cats and is also fine with other dogs large and small. He is a little shy with other dogs too at first and doesn't interact much. He has been very tolerant of dogs taking toys and bothering him though. He has warmed up to his foster housemates and is starting to play with them.  Since T Man never raced we don't have a racing weight for him. His foster mom leashed walked him to potty inside her fenced yard until he got comfortable enough to let her catch him. He is off leash now and comes running back into the house. After a little over a week he has started approaching his foster mom for affection and is OK with her walking toward him as long as she moves slowly. He is more skittish when visitors come over. Because he is so timid he is likely to be scared of the fast movements and loud noises that children and their toys and friends make. We would prefer to put him into a quiet home with older calm kids or no kids.

Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):
Elrod, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Koopman family of Hendersonville NC 7/6/19

Toppy just came in from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He raced 149 races there and was a fantastic racer, racing at the top A level nearly his entire career. At one point he won 6 A level races in a row. He raced his entire career at that track. We placed his sister Atascocita Prema so are happy to be getting him now too. Toppy turned 4 on February 13th and he raced at 71lbs. His sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is Atascocita Golda. Toppy has very cute stand up ears. He passed his cat test and is being fostered so would be a great choice for a home with cats. Toppy is a very friendly, happy, guy that just loves people. He goes up to everyone he meets, adults and children. He is curious about everything and seems to not be phased much by anything new. He seems like a pretty confident guy. Toppy isn't a fan of his crate and can be pretty vocal about it, so may not be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living. He is smart and it only took one day to house train him. Even though Toppy is 4, he still likes to taste things, so supervision will be necessary until he learns what is OK to chew on and what is not. He has not tried to get up on the furniture yet and prefers to lay on a dog bed. He gets along well with other dogs but does grumble some if they try to share a dog bed with him. Toppy is a very sweet boy that gives kisses and loves to be near people more than anything else. He is very goofy and fun. Even though he hasn't growled at humans over his bed and actually loves small kids, we would rather err on the side of caution and place him in a home with older kids that could understand that some dogs don't care for being bothered when sleeping or laying down.

Brindle Male
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:
No
Fostered by (location):
Glymph, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Lohoefer family of Myrtle Beach 6/23/19

Doc came in from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track in February. He only has one race listed and he finished last. He wasn't much better in his previous schooling races. His trainers say that he would be a good candidate for dog sports because he is injury free and just not quite fast enough for the professional track. He is very young and just turned 2 on May 27th. His sire is the famous Cayman Went and his dam is D's Overthemoon. Doc is a big brindle guy that raced at 80lbs. Doc was a little overwhelmed and nervous when he first arrived, but warmed up in his foster home and quickly became a happy, goofy guy. When he first came in, he would shy away if you reached for him, but would come right up if another greyhound was getting petted. He needed a little work on leash because he tried to backup or bolt if something surprised him. Doc is very quiet in his crate and is being fostered in a townhouse, so should be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living. Doc was adopted March 1st and was renamed Tigger. He is being returned to us because he growled at a child that was leaning on him and petting him, to comfort him, after he had already had a stressful day that included an upset tummy from being fed too much and a bath. A growl is the only way a dog has to say he doesn't like something and actually shows that the dog would rather warn than actually bite. Doc has always been a sweet guy that likes people and even kids, but will need to be placed in a home where everyone understands the old saying "Let a sleeping dog lie". Many dogs don't like to have someone lean on them or pet them when they are laying down resting, even when awake.

Bran just arrived from the Goodman Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track, he also raced briefly at Palm Beach. He only raced 10 races and finished toward the back of the pack in all of them. Bran raced at 77lbs and is a gorgeous darker brindle. He is a young guy that won't turn 2 until August 4th. HIs sire is the famous Barcelona Boss and his dam is Winta Hightower. In spite of being so young, Bran is described as a very laid back, calm guy. He is friendly with people. He did not pass his cat test at the track and is much to interested in kitties to be able to live with them. He is being fostered with a small child and seems to enjoy being around children. He is a very sweet boy.

Mator raced 34 times in maiden races for dogs that have never won a race. Sadly she never was able to win one of those races and only placed 4 times. Most of the time she was bringing up the rear. Her sire is the famous Trent Lee and her dam is Dakota's Peggey. She just turned 2 on April 4th and raced at 66lbs. Mator is just a little less outgoing than her sisters but still friendly. She is just one that will stand back and let the others get most of the attention first. She is good on leash and pretty calm. Mator liked the kids she met. More as we get to know her.

Sweet Girl just arrived from a Florida farm. She never made it to the race track and flunked out of training because she would play with the other dogs instead of chasing the lure. That is called interfering and dogs that do that aren't allowed to race. Sweet girl is a very young girl that won't turn 2 until August 26th. Her sire is the famous DJays Octane and her dam is KB's Go Mama. She is pretty tall for a girl and weighs about 65lbs. Sweet Girl is friendly and loving with people and kids she has met. She has been just a little overwhelmed with all the new sights and sounds in her retired life though and can be a bit jumpy. Sweet girl walks well on leash and travels very well. She kennels well too and sleeps through the night quietly. Her foster mom has reported that she is not good with other dogs when being fed and she guards her food. She hasn't shown any food aggression with people at all, but we would rather place her in a home without small kids, that would be carrying food and dropping food, just be extra cautious. So far sweet girl has only really gone after another female dog that got too close to her food and left a male alone that was even closer. She may need to be placed as an only dog unless her family was very diligent about feeding and giving treats separately. Sweet girl is the cutest thing and passed her cat test easily without any interest.

She started out racing at Mardi Gras briefly then was moved to Sanford Orlando to race. She was pretty good, getting up to A level for part of her career. She started slowing down now, so was retired. Her sire is Kelsos Bogman and her dam is Valeri Deer. Rag Doll just turned 4 on May 2nd. She is a very calm girl that passed her cat test easily with no interest in them. She was also fine with the small dog she met. She is quiet in her kennel and pretty good on leash too. She liked the kids she met. She is just a little overwhelmed by everything new but doesn't really seem to be shy and will go up to people for attention. Rag Doll had to have 11 teeth taken out at the vet so will need to have good dental care and maintenance to save the rest of her teeth. She is able to eat just fine with the her remaining teeth. Ellie just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race Track. She arrived with her sister TMC's Mistimagic. Ellie never raced and flunked out of the training phase at the race track. She just didn't show much promise as a racer so was retired young. Ellie won't even turn 2 until October 31st. She is a small girl around 60lbs. She is the more outgoing of the two girls and doesn't seem to be phased by all the new things in her retired life. She is calm for one so young, but does get excited sometimes and bounces. She jumped up on people when she first arrived, but after the initial excitement wore off she stopped. She was very calm in her foster home and exceptionally quiet in her crate. Ellie just lays down and goes to sleep in her kennel, so she may be perfect for apartment or townhouse living. She pulls just a little on leash because she is curious about everything, but is already getting better with just a little coaching. Ellie seems like a smart, friendly girl that is going to be very social and fun. She passed her cat and small dog tests easily and was more interested in checking out the room and getting attention from all the new people. Ellie liked the small kids she met too. She seems to enjoy traveling and just lays down for the ride.  Her sire is Time Flies and her dam is TMC's Mcjosalyn. Ellie was vetted in Clinton SC and is ready to go home.

Vinny just arrived from the Bolton Racing Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. We placed his littermates B Dom Perignon and B My Brandy already. Some of our volunteers co-own his sister B My Sherry who is still racing. Vinny raced 45 races and also raced at Naples Ft Myers in Florida. He had a great start in racing winning his first 4 races and going straight up to the top A level. Vinny mainly competed at the top A and B levels. In early September he got bumped by another dog during a race and hurt his hip. They took him out of racing to heal up for over 2 months. He started racing again in November and won his first race at the top A level, so seemed to be completely healed up. He got bumped again in another race and slowed down just a bit and started dropping levels. His trainer found that he had a little soreness in his hip right after races, so they decided to retire him. He is not limping now and his hip should not bother him as a pet. Since Vinny retired due to soreness he should stay retired and not do lure coursing or agility. He is fine to run and play normally and shouldn't have any trouble as a pet. Vinny turned 3 on May 18th. His sire is Golden Squire and his dam is B My Merlot. He passed his cat and small dog tests very easily without any interest in either. He just stepped over the small dog as if he wasn't even there. Vinny was vetted in Columbia and his foster mom decided to keep him.

Just not that interested in racing or not quite fast enough to be competitive. Misti won't even turn 2 until October 31st. Misti is a friendly girl but was a little overwhelmed when she first arrived. She seemed just a little nervous with everything new not so much with people. She goes up to people and gives kisses. Misti was well behaved in her kennel. She didn't have any accidents in the house and was doing great on her potty training in her foster home. She seems very calm and well behaved for a girl that is still almost a puppy. She was curious about the small dog and cat on first meeting but just sniffed. The cat did have to slap her a few times because she kept sniffing. She did great in a foster home with cats and around a small dog in another home. She was very good with the other dogs in her foster home too and gives new dogs kisses that she meets. She seemed to like the small kids she met too. Misti likes to travel and just gets in and lays down. She is also very good on leash. Her sire is TIme Flies and her dam is TMC's Mcjoslyn. Misti was vetted in Clinton SC and is ready to go home.

August is a beautiful red girl that just arrived from Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She also raced at Dubuque and Mardi Gras race tracks. She retired after racing 69 times because she had a sore shoulder. August got bumped in a race back in November and hurt her shoulder. Her trainer took her out of racing for several months, waited for her shoulder to heal, and got her back into racing condition. He tried racing her again in March and she actually won a race and placed a couple of times and stayed racing until May. Her shoulder was a little sore after races though, so the decision was made to retired her. August is not limping now and doesn't seem to be bothered by her shoulder. Our vet looked at it and thinks she will be fine as a pet, but shouldn't do agility or coursing or other performance dog events. Our vet said she may have a little arthritis in her shoulder as she ages. There is a slight chance she could need surgery, in the future, if she re-injures her shoulder and makes it worse. August's litter was given racing names of large stores. She got Costco and yes there is a Sam's, Best Buy, K Mart and Target too. August just turned 3 on May 20th. Her sire is the famous BD's Grayson and her dam is Flying Kinney. August passed her cat and small dog tests without any interest in either. She also liked the kids she met. August is a very friendly girl that doesn't seem to meet a stranger. She likes other dogs and people she meets and seems like a happy waggy girl. She travels well and jumps right up into an SUV or backseat on command and settles right down for the trip. August was vetted in Clinton SC and is ready to go home.

Sherwin just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park. He only had 3 schooling races and finished toward the back of the pack in the first two and pulled up and nearly stopped in the last one. His last race was in January so he may have been rehabbing from an injury in that last race, since he was at the track so long before they made the decision to retire him. Sherwin raced at 75lbs and is young - he won't turn 2 until June 20th. His sire is P's Gibbs and his dam is Zero. He seemed a little timid and overwhelmed when he first arrived but warmed up right away in foster care. After just a day or two he has become a friendly guy that loves attention. He is great with the other greyhounds, male and female in his foster home. He also passed his cat and small dog tests easily. Sherwin can be a little loud in his kennel so may not be a good choice for apartment living. He loves to lay on doggy beds and is slowly learning the wood floors and stairs at his foster home. He has done great with his potty training and hasn't had one accident in the house and seems to have good house manners already.

Dan is a gentle giant giant racing at 82lbs. He is very tall and narrow and his back is nearly hip high. He raced at Flagler, Naples Ft Myers, Sarasota, Ebro and Southland. He was good, winning at A level at Sarasota and Ebro. After Dan retired he was sent to the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Group to be sent out to one of the adoption groups they deliver dogs to and we got him from there. Dan just turned 3 on January 16th. His sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Flying Devlin. He is a sweet outgoing guy that just wants to be close to you. Dan will lean against you for greyhound hugs. He didn't seem to be stressed by traveling but likes to stand up and see where he was going. He seems like he has an easy going personality and isn't stressed by much. He was fine with the white 15lb Italian greyhound he was introduced to and a black fuzzy dog so should be fine to live with them. He has the softest fuzzy coat and is very furry for a greyhound. He is doing great on his potty training and seems to be a big teddy bear of a boy. Dan was adopted and in a home for about a month. Initially he was fine with the 3.5 year old child in the home, but gradually he started to get annoyed with him and didn't like him stepping over him and moving around him when he was laying down. So even though he really likes kids, in smaller doses, we think he would prefer to live in a home that doesn't have small kids.

Freeze just arrived from the Blanchard kennel in Orange Park FL. He raced most recently at their other kennel in Wheeling WV though. He raced 27 races and got up to B level so was pretty good. He took a tumble in his last race back in September of 2018 and never returned to racing after that. Freeze is a pretty calm mellow guy. He's settled in with no housebreaking accidents or counter surfing, and crates quietly as long as he has another dog with him.  When totally alone he does show some distress, so will do better in a home with at least one other dog for company.  Freeze does love to run around outside but only does a few laps in the yard. He passed his small dogs test easily and seemed to like the kids he was introduced to. He has not been cat tested yet. His sire is KC and All and his dam is DK's Leapinlizzy. He will turn 3 on June 20th. Freeze raced at 71lbs.

Kaleb just arrived from the Daytona Beach RaceTrack in Florida. He is a 75lb red brindle male with a black nose that turned 2 on February 9th.  Although his is pretty young he started early and has already raced 70 races at Derby Lane and Daytona Beach. He wasn't great but did win a few and placed a lot. His sire is Dragon Fire and his dam is Flying Cleburne. Cleburne is a girl that one of our volunteers owns and the same volunteer also owns one of Kaleb's brothers from a previous litter so we are very excited to be able to bring Kaleb in as well. Kaleb rode well on the trip up to SC from FL and seems to like to travel. He is a friendly boy that seems pretty calm and well behaved. Kaleb's foster mom says he is very good and is an easy foster that should be perfect for a first time greyhound owner. He did not pass his cat test so won't be able to live in a home with kitties. He was very good with the small white Italian Greyhound he met though so should be fine to live with small dogs. Kaleb seems like he would be fine as an only dog and is quiet in his crate so would probably be a great dog for an apartment.  Update!  Kaleb's family has made the difficult decision to let him find a new placement that perhaps has more time at home to spend with him.  He will be arriving back in foster care very soon.

Good w/ Children:

Johnson, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the McDaniel family of Hendersonville, NC on 5.19.19

MIXED BREED Dutch came to us from a NC shelter that thought he might be a greyhound mix. He had been found as a stray. We do have some information on him because he was microchipped. The name Dutch was listed on his microchip and it told us that he is 5 years old. Unfortunately his original owner was not able to be contacted with the info given. The original shepherd rescue group that placed him in Texas was found and contacted. They gave permission to rehome him here because of the distance. His microchip says that he is 5 years old. Dutch looks like a Dutch shepherd mix and may possibly be mixed with greyhound. Greyhound mixes are very rare here, but more common in Texas where he came from. He mostly has the Dutch Shepherd build and color but has greyhound looking ears. Dutch went through extensive temperament testing at the shelter. He passed everything with flying colors. He was fine with small dogs, cats and even kittens. He was OK with handling and gives kisses. He is friendly, but doesn't come across as really needy. He will explore by himself and then will come up and put his head on you for love. He is perfectly happy on a dog bed and doesn't seem to be a marker and hasn't had an accident inside. He had already been neutered by the previous rescue group that placed him in Texas. He eats very well and didn't seem too stressed by being in a shelter situation. Dutch has a big booming bark and will get excited when you first come home and will bark, so probably would not do well as an apartment dog. He was whiny at first as he was getting settled in his foster home. He seems to get along well with any dog he meets and gives them kisses too. Dutch should be fine as an only dog though. He travels very well and potties really well on leash. It only takes him about 30 seconds to take care of all his business on leash but if he has a yard to explore he loves to spend time outside sniffing around. He is a big brindle guy with a huge head, neck, and chest and smaller back end. He has huge feet, a round more barrel shaped body than a greyhound but does have pretty long legs and cute greyhound ears. He has more of a stiff coat than the typical greyhound. His weight was listed as 74lbs. Dutch seems like he has had a lot of training in the past. He does sit and down on command and will give his paw when asked. He works well for food and toys. He seems like he is very smart and figures things out quickly. He has definitely been a house dog because he knows what dog and human beds are and seems to have good housetraining and house manners already. He has no problem with slick floors or stairs. Dutch seems to like kids when he meets them but gets pretty excited to see them so may be a little much for small children. Dutch is strong and does pull on leash. If you remind him to heel he will come back and walk by your side so he has been trained to heel. He just needs reminders because he loves to sniff around on walks.

Suzie has just arrived from the Blanchard kennel at Orange Park and will be vetted at Clinton Animal Hospital.  She is a gorgeous, lightly marked, brindle girl with white socks and tail tip. Her left side almost has no brindling except a little on her shoulder. Sweet, calmer girl who roached within minutes of being placed into a kennel. Raced at 60 lbs. Will be 2 years old next month. Very little interest in either the little dog or the cat so should be fine to live with either. Her sire is Pat C Clement and her dam is U Too Serena. We placed her littermate Qest Imprint already and also placed a half brother by the same mom named Karl Malden. Both are great pets. Suzie only raced 10 races and didn't win any of those. She placed in most of her races though. She started playing with the other racers so was disqualified. Playing on the track is not allowed. Because she had a very short career, she is young and won't turn 2 until June 14th.

He raced his last race on Feb 1st of 2019 and came in last place. Looks like he may have had an injury that was rehabbed in hopes he could return to racing due to the amount of time he was kept at the track after his last race before they made the decision to retire him. After most minor injuries and even some more serious ones are healed, the dogs are often able to return to racing. Sometimes they just aren't fast enough after they heal up to continue racing or the old injury continues to bother them a little and they are retired. Coyote is turning 4 on May 15th. His sire is the famous Djays Octane and his dam is Ucme Chickaboom. He raced at 73lbs. Coyote is a very outgoing, happy boy. During his cat and small dog tests he was very curious and did a lot of sniffing. After a swat from the cat he lost all interest though.

Timmons was good racing 94 races and getting up to A level. He even placed in 4 Stakes Races, getting a 2nd, two 3rds and a 4th. Timmons raced at 73lbs and his sire is Dox Out Of Peace and his dam is Boc's Sluicey. He is a very good boy and as you would expect travels well and takes everything in stride. He picks up quickly on things and seems very bright. He figured out how to take his muzzle off with no problem. He crates quietly and has done great with potty training. He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home and was also fine with the small dog he met. He still needs cat testing but he has seen a few cats outside and hadn't gotten excited about them so we think he is likely to pass his cat test. Timmon's foster mom says he is one of the easiest fosters she has had. He is good on leash and corrects easily. He is a pretty calm guy that will turn 4 on June 27th. What a looker with all that eyeliner!

White with Red Spots Female
Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Bowden, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Hudgins family of Grovetown, GA 5.11.19

Missy came in initially from the Birmingham Race Course. She only raced one of her 49 races there though. She traveled around to quite a few tracks. Missy started out at Dubuque in IA, then went to Wheeling Downs in WV, Gulf in TX and Orange Park in FL then finally Birmingham AL. She did get up to A level once at Orange Park but just wasn't a really good racer. She moved around a lot looking for a place where she would be competitive. Missy turned 3 on November 28th and raced at 65lbs. Her sire is the famous KC and All and her dam is WW's Whiteclover. She was called Minnie at the track but has since been renamed Missy by her first family. She is a pretty timid girl that will need time to warm up. Missy seems to be little more shy with men than kids and females. She was initially fostered with a calm 8 year old child. Most timid dogs are terrified around very loud fast moving small kids though so she probably needs a home with quiet older kids or no kids. Missy travels well. She is excellent on leash and goes potty on leash walks, so may do OK without a fenced yard. Missy has been in a wonderful home since October of 2018. Her family is elderly and both have fallen recently. One broke a hip and one broke a back, and one is still in the hospital. They aren't going to be able to care for a dog anymore and have asked us to find Missy a new home. She passed her cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. Missy is doing well in her foster home with some several small dogs. She comes with a big bed and some toys that were sent with her to help her with the transition. Missy is a sweet girl that will just need a little time to warm up. She has met a couple of families, but doesn't interact at all on the first meeting, so any potential families need to understand that. She is very well behaved in her foster home and once she is home with you she will warm up. She is just a shy girl that just needs a week or two in a new home to come out of her shell.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Aumuck family of Hampstead, NC, 5.11.19

Castiel is a red male that just arrived from Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park in Florida. He raced 48 races there and at Tri State in WV. He got up to B level so was pretty good at first but he has slowed a bit and only won one race since December even after moving to a slower track. He raced at 73lbs so is a mid sized male. His sire is the famous Djays Octane and his dam is Easi Narcissa. He will turn 3 on October 16th.  Castiel needs a home with no cats or small dogs because he tends to want to chase anything that is small and furry. He is a happy, friendly guy that is very waggy. He wagged so hard at the vet's office that he injured his tail banging it into everything and had to have it wrapped up.

Linda raced for the Blanchard kennel in Jacksonville FL before retiring to a life of leisure here in the Carolinas.  She's a little girl with a sweet face and gentle manner that made everyone at the clinic fall in love with her right away.  She was a bit timid learning everything new, but learned quickly and slept the first night quietly resting in her crate.  Reactions to the cats have been mixed and her foster mom wasn't confident that she would be safe with all cats until a bit more work was done. Her sire is Defrim Bale and her dam is Arkuska Dolly. She will turn 2 on May 26th.

Her sire is Golden Squire and her dam is B My Merlot. We placed her littermate B Dom Perignon awhile back. Brandy raced at 61lbs and will turn 3 on May 18th. She is mostly red without much of the black brindle striping, so is very striking and unusual. She is a silly, happy girl. She loves being close by and getting ear rubs or any type of affection and petting. She is great on leash and travels well. She passed her cat and small dog tests easily and has been living with kitties in her foster home. Her foster home has decided that they want her to stay.

Edge just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race track. He only had 3 schooling races and finished toward the back of the pack in all of them. He was more interested in playing with the other dogs than chasing a lure. He even raced one of his schooling races with blinkers on in hopes it would encourage him to focus on the lure instead of playing with the other dogs. Playing with the other racers is not allowed during races and is the quickest way to be retired.  So Edge won't turn 2 until June 6th and is already retired and looking for a home. He is a silly guy that loves to run and play but he calms down nicely and sleeps in his crate and is very quiet in the crate even when completely alone. So he may do fine as an apartment dog or an only dog. He has done fine with the small dog in his foster home but does want to play with him. He would need rules and supervision with very small dogs just because of the size difference. Edge passed his cat test at the vet's without much interest. When he got into a foster home with kitties he got more interested in them moving around him so we decided that he would do better in a home without cats. He really liked the small kids he met and was fostered with a small child. Edge raced at 69lbs so is a smaller guy. His sire is Dox Out Of Peace and his dam is Superior Carly. Edge is a very good boy that responds really well to correction. He is calm for such a young dog but does have some energy because he is so young. He will run around the yard a few times and settle right down though. He is curious about everything. He has done very well on his potty training.

She was a good racer getting up to A level. She raced 96 races and raced at 60lbs so is a little girl. She pulled up and slowed down in her last race in October so probably had some type of injury. She is completely healed up from whatever it was now and isn't limping or showing any sign of any pain. Brees passed her cat test without much interest. She also did very well with the small dog she met and seemed to like the small kids as well. She is being fostered with children now. Brees is a sweet calm girl that is friendly and seems like she will be a great pet. Her sire is TMC's Remedy and her dam is TMC's Allheart. Brees turned 3 on June 1st. She is a beautiful white girl with brindle spots. The two big brindle spots on her back make her look like she has on wings. More as we get to know her.

Twista just arrived from the Lester Raines Kennel at the Palm Beach race track. His owner Mike Hattery, is a friend of some of our members, and reached out to us and asked us to place him when he retired. Mike has pictures of Twista growing up and will be glad to pass them on to his new owner and would love to get updates.  Twista was a kennel favorite, just one of those dogs whose personality stands out in a crowd. Very happy and social. His trainer says he loves to play and is very smart. He wishes he had a kennel full of dogs just like Twista. He says whoever gets him is going to get a great dog. Twista was a good racer getting up to A level and even competing in a Stakes race. He did well in the longer 660 yard races but also raced in the 550 and won. His sire is Hi Noon Renegade and his dam is SL Wolfgang. We placed his littermate NPZ ImperialLady as well. Twista passed his small dog test easily and seems to like kids.

Adoption Status: Adopted to the Mrowca family of Biltmore Lake, NC 4/15/19

Jingles is a tall boy that raced at 71lbs. He turned 3 years old on January 7th. He only raced 10 races total and didn't win one of them. He raced 5 races at Derby lane in January of 2018 then was taken out of racing for a year. He raced another 5 races in January of 2019 and still didn't race well so was retired. His owners say that Jingles is an exceptionally fast greyhound that would win all the time at the training track, but then would not put his heart into the race once he got to the track. That is why they gave him a year to grow up and mature hoping that he would do better with time. Jingles is a confident, friendly, happy guy that passed his cat and small dog tests. He should be fine to live with either and is being fostered in a home with cats and small dogs. His foster mom says that he is curious about the cats and wants to play when they do but corrects well and should be fine with some supervision at first. Jingles is so comfortable in new situations that he laid down and did the famous greyhound roach, on his back with 4 feet in the air, within a few minutes of arrival. He is quiet in his kennel so may be OK to live in a townhouse or apartment. Jingles sire is the famous Bella Infrared and his dam is Blazin Booty. Because of his speed, he may be a good choice for someone that wanted to do amateur sports with greyhounds. He has had no injuries. They called him a morning glory because he did best in morning schooling races.

Army is a very tall guy that came in from the Lester Raines Kennel at Orange Park. We were very excited to get him because we just placed his mom Lee Lonnie! He raced all of his 34 races at Orange Park in FL. He mainly raced at the lower levels but did get as high as B level briefly. His racing weight is listed as 79 but he is very tall and lanky for that weight and is one of the taller guys we have seen. He turned 3 on September 24th. He doesn't have very many races for his age and it looks like he took several breaks from racing: One after his first race October 7th of 2017 until mid December and another from May 5th to June 3rd of 2018. Then from June 7th to December 9th 2018. So it looks like he had some kind of reoccurring injury. Looking at all the bumps and falls he had, it looks like he was very clumsy due to his size. He did heal up completely and went back to racing in December, but was slow, so was retired after 4 races. Army's sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Lee Lonnie. Army is a sweet, friendly guy that travels well and seems to kennel pretty well. He has made just a little noise occasionally in his kennel, but slept through the first night without making a peep. He liked the small kids he met and seemed to do well with the small dog he met too. He was interested in the cats at first and did a lot of sniffing, but lost interest on his own without even getting a slap from the cat. We only listed him as trainable because there was some initial interest in the cat. Army was fostered with cats and did very well with them. He jumps in and out of a SUV fine. He doesn't like to potty on leash so probably will need a fenced yard. He has decent leash manners and doesn't pull but does go from side to side to check things out. His foster home describes him as a lovable dofus. Army can be dramatic like so many greyhounds. He will give the greyhound scream of death sometimes if he doesn't like something, like having his nails done. He just needs someone that doesn't buy into his drama. He is tall enough that his back touches the top of the 48 inch long crate so he needs an extra tall 48" long crate or a 54" long dane sized crate. Army was in a home for a couple of months but he didn't do well there as an only dog. They called him Harvey. He is a sensitive guy that picks up on his owner's anxiety so needs a happy confident owner so he can be the confident happy guy he normally is.

Latasha just arrived from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She is a sweet girl with a lot of personality that one of our volunteers fell in love with on a visit to the track. She was waiting on Latash to retire but when that finally happened we found out that Latasha is way too focused on cats to be able to live in their home with kitties. So Latasha is available for adoption. She raced 120 races and did get up to A level for awhile. Her racing weight was 62lbs. A lot of her most recent races were the shorter sprint races. Latasha turned 4 on October 4th. Her sire is the famous DJ's Octane and her dam is BI's Sugar Momma. Latasha loves toys and carries them around and places them on her dog bed along with a few items of clothing she found. She is a collector but doesn't seem to be destructive. She just likes to sleep with her toys and stuff. She is very sweet and loving and has a wonderful personality that drew us to her out of a kennel full of other dogs. She does need a home without kitties. More as we get to know her.

Wheel House just arrived from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced 62 races there. She seemed to do best at the longer distance races and won a few of those but mainly placed. She is a littermate to Nothing But Dust that we also placed. Her sire is Golden Squire and her dam is Ready Set Gone. Wheel House is a tiny female that raced at just 60lbs and will turn 3 on May 9th. She passed her cat test easily and is being fostered with cats so should be fine to live with cats or small dogs. She is very sweet, friendly and pretty laid back. Her foster home just loves her and says she is a great girl that gets along great with their dogs. Wheel House has been determined to have Greyhound Bleeding Disorder after tests ruled out diseases such as Von Wildenbrands.  Future owners should be cautious about surgery or bleeding emergencies and should always have Amicar on hand.   Wheel House likes the comfort of her crate and sleeps quietly there all night, so may be a good choice for apartment living. She also potties nicely on leash so doesn't require a fenced yard as long as her family was willing to leash walk her to potty. She is such a cute tiny girl that can be just a little overwhelmed at first by new things.
