Kylie just arrived from Alabama. She is a retired racer that raced at Southland until they closed at the end of 2022. She wasn't a great racer and only won one race in her career. She raced 58 races and did place quite a few times. She is a small girl that raced at just 58lbs. She is 4 years old and won't turn 5 until September 3rd. Kylie has been in a home in Alabama since she retired from racing but they asked us for help rehoming her. Her sire is Rico's Vintage and her dam is KL's Ruth. Kylie was vetted at Emerald City Animal Hospital in Greenwood SC on 3/12/24. According to her previous owner, Kylie has a pretty high prey drive so would do best in a home with no cats or small dogs. She did not pay much attention to a small white Italian greyhound however but she may be different with small fluffy dogs that look more like bunnies or squirrels. She is a very friendly girl that wags like crazy, so hard she injured her tail the first day we had her. She loves to lay on couches and will sleep in bed with you. She bonds very fast to whoever she is with. Kylie travels well and will just get up on the seat and lay down for the trip. She is great girl!!

Blanton is a retired show greyhound that never raced. He has been in a home since birth. He is 6 years old and is a gorgeous white and brindle male that is extra large at around 100lbs. He is retired from show life and his owner asked for our help in finding him a home.  He has been fine with other large dogs that are close to his size, male and female. He plays rough though so his owner does not think he would be good with smaller dogs or cats. He is a very friendly happy guy and wouldn't mean any harm though. Just a very sweet boy.

Eli is a black male that is a retired show dog and not a retired racer. He has been in a home is his entire life and is a friendly, happy guy. He is a very large guy with a weight in the 90s. His owner believes he would do better in a home without other dogs. He is a big boy that plays rough and can be a little pushy sometimes with other dogs. He was placed in a home with a medium sized female dog and got bitten by her when playing, so was returned. He is very friendly with people and great on leash. A really nice big boy and gorgeous.

Clyde retired from the Daytona Race Track with his sister Bonnie in 2015. He only raced 6 races and didn't do well in any of them, so was retired young. Bonnie and Clyde were from a litter of only two pups and were placed in an adoptive home together. Clyde is available again because his family came home to find out that the two littermates had gotten into a fight. No one knows what happened, but they decided to re-home Clyde. They say it was very out of character for him. The two dogs had always gotten along and Clyde is normally a very gentle, happy go lucky, easy going guy according to his previous family. They said he never lifted a lip or growled over anything. Clyde is calm and well behaved and just will lean into you for love. He is a very loving guy. He passed his cat and small dog tests initially and wanted nothing to do with the cat after it hissed and swatted at him. He was introduced to another cat after he was returned and he happily sniffed the cat, then wanted to get love from the people in the room. In foster care he did growl over space when laying down, when other dogs approached occasionally, but that is the only thing we have seen. He has been completely checked over by our vet and got a clean bill of health along with a fresh dental and all shots he needed. He really bonds closely with people and wants to be in the room with you. He has not shown any sign of separation anxiety when his foster mom was at work and just lays on her couch and relaxes. He just gets anxious when someone is home and he can't get to them. He was fostered with an 8 year old child. His sire is Kiowa Mon Manny and his dam is Riverview Sookie. He raced at 76lbs so is a mid sized guy. He just turned 9 on January 17th so qualifies for our senior discount adoption donation of $250.   UPDATE!  Sweet Kamino is still looking for the perfect family to settle into.  He's demonstrated in the last two homes that he sometimes gets overly intense and excited when playing outside or left unsupervised with females in the home.  His perfect family would be one willing to muzzle and/or separate him from other dogs when left completely alone or running, much as many of us do with our own packs to keep everyone safe.  Kamino is a wonderful and loving dog but cares so much about his humans that he really wants to be a part of everything exciting with you.  He's big, lovable, and looking for his final family to live out his happy senior years of retirement.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the McPike Family, 6.12.23

Senior available for adoption with her housemate Gus. Holly initially came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track in February of 2016. She only had 5 schooling races that we could find. She just didn't show any promise as a racer so was retired, without having one official race. Holly will turn 9 on May 21st and has been in her current home since September of 2017. She is being returned due to her older family no longer being able to physically care for their two greyhounds. This is her second return. She was returned once previously after being in a home for about a year, where she lived with 6 cats. Although she never tried to chase cats, after a year she got tired of the six cats in her home walking on her and around her, and started growling at them to make them stay away from her. She should be fine in home with one or two cats that don't walk on dogs. She is very good with small dogs, in fact, when she went to doggy day care she was in with the small dogs rather than the larger dogs. Her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Fuzzys Francie. Holly is a tiny girl, racing at just 56lbs. She is a very outgoing girl that is very waggy and very happy all the time. She can be a bit noisy in her kennel, so probably wouldn't be the best choice for apartment living. Holly was great with the small kids she was around in a previous foster home, but has not been living with kids. Gus is pretty bonded with Holly and stresses when she is gone, so we are looking for a home where they can stay together. Because both dogs are over 8 years old they both qualify for our discounted senior adoption donation of $250. The pictures of them are from when they were 3. Holly will be checked by our vet and will have a fresh dental and all shots updated before adoption.   UPDATE!  See the recently update on Holly's buddy Gus.  Both qualify for Special Needs status with reduced adoption donations!

Senior return available for adoption with his housemate Holly. Gus is an XL boy that initially retired from the Sanford Orlando Race track back in 2017. He was adopted in August of 2017. Now Gus is being returned due to his older family being physically unable to care for him and his housemate Holly anymore. Gus only raced a total of 26 races. He started off running at Palm Beach and raced 5 races there and even won one of them, before falling in his 6th race. He barely ran in his next race and finished so far back he wasn't even in the picture. He was pulled out of racing for nearly 2 months. When he raced again, he finished so far back again that he wasn't even in the picture. So he was off for 3 more months. He finally started racing better for awhile and even won a couple of races. Then he started playing with other dogs while racing, which is strictly against the rules. He was pulled out of racing for a couple more months and moved to another track to see if he would do better. It was finally determined that he just needed to retire in 2017. Gus will turn 9 on June 7th. HIs sire is Gianni and his dam is Estonia. Gus is an extra large, tall narrow, red brindle boy that raced at 83lbs. He is a very, happy, playful guy that loves to go for walks. He is a confident guy that is curious about everything and loves attention. Gus was interested in the cat he was tested with at first and barked at it, but once the cat slapped him, he backed away and didn't want to get close to him again. He may be trainable with a confident cat that will stand his ground. He is was fostered with a small dog and was fine with him. He really liked a toddler and other kids he was introduced to, but doesn't like to be bothered when laying down, so we think he would be best in a home with no children or maybe older kids that understand that some dogs just don't like to be bothered when sleeping or laying down. Gus kennels great in a room with other dogs or people around, but can complain loudly if alone. He is very attached to his housemate Holly and stresses when she is not there, so we would prefer to place the two dogs in a home together. We don't know if Gus has been crated recently, but when he was a foster years ago, his back touched the top of the standard 48" long kennel. We had to either use the extra tall 48" long crate or a 54" long crate that was even higher. Because Gus is over 8 years old he qualifies for our reduced adoption donation of $250. The pictures that are up were taken when he was 3. Gus will be completely checked by our vet and will have a fresh dental and all shots updated before adoption.   UPDATE!  Gus and Holly are ready to go!  They have done very well together moving back into foster care and are loved by their Foster Family.  We plan to keep them together as a bonded pair because that's the best option for this sweet couple.  Both have been vetted, travel well, and are the perfect greyhound family companions.  Both qualify for Special Needs Status with reduced adoption fees!

He is being fostered with small dogs but still needs testing with cats and kids.  Update!  Now being called Sully, this handsome boy has proven he needs a home without cats.  He is again available but has a wonderful family already in process to meet him for adoption.

Special Needs - Must be only dog! Izzy initially was adopted as a greyhound puppy 4 years ago. She never raced because she was stepped on by her mother when tiny. Her leg broke and wasn't able to heal correctly without surgery. Look at her other photos to see pictures of her as a puppy and her X-rays. Pro Greyhound, a group that takes in injured greyhounds, gets them the surgery they need, and rehabilitates them after surgery, got her the surgery she needed. The surgery was successful and she can run and play now. Izzy was adopted in March of 2018 after her leg was healed from the surgery. She is being re-homed now because she hasn't been getting along with the other dogs in her home, and recently had a fight with one of the other female dogs in her home. So Izzy is looking for a home with NO other dogs! She is a sweet, friendly girl that likes people. She probably needs an experienced owner that can do some training. Although she has been living in a home: she doesn't seem like she has had a lot of training. Her sire is Group Rooster and her mom is Rico's Tagnanello (who we also placed). Izzy was born July 7 of 2017. She was tattooed at 3 months with her siblings, but never got a registered racing name because she was adopted as a puppy and never raced.

Joy is a greyhound puppy that was purchased from a puppy mill. Neither her sire nor dam were registered greyhounds and we don't have any information on them because of that. She is about 14 weeks old and appears to be pure greyhound. Her previous owners only kept her a few weeks before asking us to help them re-home her. They had toddlers and Joy was jumping on them, knocking them over and playing too rough with them. Typical large puppy play and nothing aggressive. Joy is very outgoing and happy, she seems very smart and already crates nicely and knows how to sit on command. She still needs some work on walking on leash. Joy loves going for rides in the car. Like all greyhound puppies, she requires a home with a fenced yard to run around in. Greyhound puppies are not suitable for apartment or townhouse living because they NEED to run and play to build strong bones and muscles. Joy is very calm and well behaved for a greyhound puppy, but still is energetic. She would not intentionally hurt children and likes kids a lot, but may be too rough for small kids. Puppies are normally nothing like the calm adult greyhounds that we are used to and need nearly constant manners training and supervision until they become adults between 2 and 3 years old.

Her foster home has decided to keep Joy! They have greyhound puppy experience and their dogs really seem to enjoy having her there.

Big Foot raced 118 races at the Orange Park Race Track in Florida and Dubuque. He retired in January of 2018 and was originally placed by Greyhounds as Pets of NE Florida, the track adoption group at Orange Park. That adoption group closed when the track did, so we place any returns that come in, like Bigfoot. He was was sent to us due to medical issues. He had nearly completely degloved his tail August 25th. Over the last month, the tail didn't heal, became infected, died and started sloughing off. He was in pain and was 9 pounds below his racing weight of 71lbs when we got him. He went straight to our vet for a tail amputation. So now Bigfoot has a short tail and is out of pain. Our vet checked him over, updated his shots and he got a fresh dental at the same time. He appears to be a healthy happy boy now and was so good at the vet's office even though he had to have been in a lot of pain when he arrived. Bigfoot is a friendly guy that loves kids and is good with cats and other dogs of all sizes. He is very quiet in his kennel so may be a good dog for apartment living. Bigfoot was born on June 22, 2014 so is 8 years old and qualifies for our senior discounted adoption donation of $250. HIs sire is Pat C Game Face and his dam is Pat C Blue Honey.

Piper Belle is a 62lb, brindle, female that originally retired from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL in 2017. At that time she was known as Home Girl but her previous family called her Piper Belle. She raced 78 races there and got up to the B level. Her sire is Makeshift and her dam is Nightingale. Piper Belle turned 8 on July 30th and has been in an adoptive home since November of 2017. Her adopter has asked for help re-homing her and her housemate Liam because she is having to move in with an older relative to provide care and can't take the dogs. Piper Belle is a beautiful brindle female with a deep mahogany coat with black striping. She is a sweetheart and loves people and kids. Piper Belle adores attention from everyone. She loves being close and snoozing near you. Piper Belle will come and lean against you quietly. She is intelligent and gentle with occasional bursts of silliness. She loves walks and laying outside on the patio. She gets excited on car rides and loves outings to the park or pet store. Piper Belle has perfect house manners. She will often put herself to bed at night and just disappears to the bedroom when it is her bed time.  Piper Belle was too interested in chasing kitties to be able to live with them, but she did great with small dogs. She has a bright happy personality. Because she is a senior, she qualifies for a reduced adoption fee of $250. We would love to find a home for her and Liam together because they have lived together and are very close.

Liam is one of the tiniest males we have ever seen, smaller than many females at only 60lbs. He is very short and stocky for his weight, so is as short as females in the lower 50lb range. Liam raced 47 races at Palm Beach and Mardi Gras Race Tracks. He won 5 of those races and mainly just placed at the the lower levels so was retired in April of 2017. Liam initially went back to his farm until they found a group that could take him. We got him in November of 2017 and he has been in an adoptive home since December of 2017. Liam will turn 8 on September 29th, so qualifies for our reduced senior adoption fee of $250. Liam's owner has asked us for help re-homing Liam and his housemate Piper Belle because she is having to move in with an older relative to provide care for them and cannot take the dogs. His sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and his dam is Atascocita Sofia.  Liam is good with other dogs large and small, but barks at cats he sees outside, so probably needs a home with no kitties. He was a little overwhelmed and shy when he first arrived and but has a fun, loving personality once he warms up. He loves to be outside as much as possible. He loves racing around the yard and chasing squirrels. He is playful and funny and enjoys emptying his toy box one toy at a time. He enjoys tossing a ball outside. Liam is a snuggler who will curl himself up inside your arms for hugs. He loves car rides, and will curl up and sleep. He enjoys outings, but mainly he loves being in his own yard. He has perfect house manners. Liam is not comfortable around little kids - he tends to go to his crate or quiet place if kids come to visit. He is very quiet indoors and laid back. He responds to "Wait" and a whistle to come inside. We would love to place Liam and Piper Belle together since they are bonded and haven't really been separated since 2017.

Swiper originally retired in July of 2015 from the Orlando race track, where she raced 73 races. She raced at a bunch of other tracks Mardi Gras and Palm Beach, Flagler, Naples-Ft. Myers and Derby Lane. Swiper just turned 10 on August 5th and weighs 60lbs. Her sire is NMS Sweet Thing and her dam is Voo Doo von Bonz. Swiper has been in an adoptive home since September of 2015. We were asked to help her find another home because her family had a baby. Swiper was very good with the baby and they slept together on the bed. As the baby became a toddler and got more mobile it started bothering Swiper. Her family say it is definitely the toddler in this case and not the dog. The toddler just doesn't understand that she can't do mean things to the dog and won't leave her alone even with constant supervision. They want Swiper to have a home where she can relax and be comfortable without a small child bothering her. Swiper was used to being around her trainer's older kids at the racing kennel and liked them. So she might be fine with older kids. She was afraid of the cats she met and just wanted to stay away from them so she could be integrated into a home with cats. She did fine with the small dog she met.Swiper is calm and friendly and quiet in her crate. Swiper is a great girl that is very well behaved. She was pretty stressed and took a couple days to come out of her shell and eat when she first arrived in foster care. Because she is a senior, Swiper qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. She has been checked by our vet and has a clean bill of health. She is up to date on all shots and had a fresh dental.

Zorro is a dog that one of our volunteers was waiting on to retire. He was a good racer that was racing at Southland, which is the top track in the country. He got up to the top AA level and ran in a Stakes race there, so he was truly one of the fastest greyhounds in the US. He broke his hock in his last race on November 18th of 2020. He was taken to an orthopedic specialist by his owner and it was determined that the break would heal best with splinting and didn't require surgery. He was sent to one of our foster homes that specializes in rehabbing injuries. He was there until his leg completely healed and our vets released him in March of 2021 for adoption. The Pruitt family that had been waiting on him to retire was able to adopt him at that time. Zorro is described by his trainer as a gentle giant. He raced at a whopping 88lbs so is an extra large tall guy. He is good on leash and very gentle and calm in spite of his size. His sire is the famous Bella Infrared and his dam is Fly Miley Cyrus. Zorro turned 4 on October 7th. He passed his small dog tests easily and liked the children he met. His foster dad said he would fall asleep during his splint changes and was a super easy guy to work with. Zorro lived in his first home from March of 2021 until mid 2022. He lived with two small Yorkies and loved them. Unfortunately Zorro's mom was ill and passed away in mid 2022. Her family reached out to us to re-home Zorro. One of our other volunteers and foster homes had recently lost two dogs to cancer and ask to adopt him. Zorro has settled in well. He seems like he misses his mom and his Yorkie buddies because he has show some signs of having separation anxiety when his new dad leaves him alone.

Piper is a brindle boy that never raced and is coming to us straight from a farm in Florida. He will turn 3 on August 19th. He never raced because he has dry eyes that are constantly irritated. He doesn't produce tears for some reason, so will have to have drops to lubricate his eyes for the rest of his life - usually 2-3 times per day. His potential adopter has experience with eye issues with his current greyhound and already has a greyhound opthomologist. Piper's sire is Nashapelli and his dam is Sidlinger. He was exceptionally good at our vet when he got his eyes examined. He is very friendly and sweet.

SENIOR! Lori just came to us from the Roban Farm, in Florida, where she has been living since she retired from racing in Feb of 2014. She was an amazing racer and raced 133 races at the top levels at Ebro and Sarasota tracks in Florida. She is the 2011 Ebro Mega Morris Juvenile Stake winner and was the 2013 Ebro Inaugural Champion. She is famous! She was retired to the farm to become a mom and had a total of 22 pups in 4 litters. Her last litter was in 2018 and she has been living on the farm as a pet since then. Because of the end of racing in Florida her owners have been forced to cut back on the number of dogs on the farm. They made the tough decision to let us place Lori. They only have 7 dogs left on the farm as pets now. Lori is an incredibly energetic busy girl. She is curious about everything and acts more like a 2 year old than a dog that turned 11 on February 22nd. You would never guess she is a senior. She is incredibly strong and gets excited to sniff everything at first when on leash. She does calm down and walks better after a few minutes. Her sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and her dam is Good Charlotte. Lori raced at 65lbs. Lori passed her small dog test and cat test. She was very curious at first like she is with everything else but calmed down quickly and went on to sniffing everything else. She seemed to like the small kids she met. She is a very friendly sweet girl that is going to make a great pet. Because she is a senior she qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. Lori was vetted at Emerald City Animal Hospital

Sip initially came in from the Birmingham Race Track and was placed in 2017 and was called Zeke. He raced 39 races there but only actually won one of those. He fell in a couple of races and quit one race so just wasn't cut out for it. Zeke is a small, 66lb, black, shiny boy that has a crooked tail from an old break. He is friendly and waggy. He passed his cat and small dog tests easily with no interest in chasing either. He loves other dogs and wants to snuggle up to them, no space issues here! Very sweet boy! He also liked the children he met. He travels well and just jumped in a van and laid down for the trip. He is a happy boy and seemed pretty calm even when younger. Sip will turn 7 September 17th. He has been in a home since December of 2017 but is being returned to us due to a divorce. He limps when he is on hard surfaces due to corns on his feet. His sire is Pat C Clement and his dam is WW Consumes.  He was vetted with Dr Ng in Columbia SC.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Sennema Family of Myrtle Beach 6/25/22

Finlay originally raced at Derby Lane in Florida. He was not a good racer and only won one race in his career of 34 races. He usually finished toward the back of the pack. He retired in February of 2013. He was placed by another adoption group, For The Hounds. He has been in that home until now. Finlay has been returned to us due to a financial situation and his owners will miss him. He was very loved. He lived with children in his previous home and was good with them. He also lived with a medium sized dog. There was some confusion about Finlay's identity. His owners thought his racing name was Foolish Times, but when we contacted the National Greyhound Association that registers all greyhounds, they told us that Foolish Times is a female, and that the dog we had was most likely a male littermate named Time To Deal. His tattoos are pretty faded and difficult to read. His sire is Dustin the Way and his dam is SE's Revenge. Finlay is a sweet older guy that turned 11 on January 19th. He has corns on his feet and limps because of them. Especially on hard surfaces. He has done better since we hulled his corns and trimmed his nails. He would do best in a home with lots of carpet due to his corns. Other than the corns, the vet that examined him felt he was healthy. Because he is a senior, Finlay qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250.

Moore, Athens GA
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Moore family of Athens, GA, 4.11.2022

Aria was initially placed by the Birmingham Track Adoption Group in early 2016 as a young puppy, just after she was tattooed at 3 months old. Her ear tattoos are 115B and 67724. Although she was tattooed she was never completed the registration process and didn't receive a registered racing name. Her littermates were racers and we ended up placing two of them: NPZ Imperial Lee and KMZ Banshee. Her sire is the famous Trent Lee and her dam is Dancin Inmiami. She was born on November 2nd of 2015. She was the runt of the litter and only weighed 49lbs at her last vet checkup. Her first owners renamed her Karma. That adoptive family decided to return her to the Birmingham Track Adoption Group when she was 10 months old. Her first family thought she would do better with someone with more greyhound experience and they wanted to get a boxer puppy instead. Karma was transported to our group from Birmingham and was adopted 8/28/16 when she was 10 months old by a dog trainer that had had other greyhounds. She was renamed Saber. Unfortunately Saber's owner died in 2020. Right after her owner passed away, Saber got out and got hit by a car. She suffered a broken leg. Her previous owner's family had it fixed and kept her until now. The break is long healed, but still causes her some pain and probably always will. She does limp and is on a low dose of inexpensive doggy pain meds, that she will need to continue to take. Her previous owner taught her a range of obedience commands. She was a Therapy Dog that went on regular visits to hospitals and nursing homes, so is an exceptionally very friendly, well trained and well behaved dog. She has been fine with the small Italian greyhound she met and she was required to be good with other dogs on her Therapy Dog visits. She does want to chase cats so needs a home without them. Saber has developed a corn on her back right foot that will require regular maintenance down the road. It also contributes to her limping. She got a dental and updated vetting at Emerald City Animal Hospital and saw an orthopedic specialist to be sure that there was nothing more that could be done for her previous broken leg when we got her. She is up to date on everything and ready to go home.

Vic just arrived from the Running To Stand Still dog farm in Florida. He has been there since he retired from racing in August. Vic raced 62 races at Derby Lane in Florida. He got up to A level and raced in some stakes races too so he was pretty good. He retired due to a reoccurring injury. He has no sign of any injury now so it shouldn't be anything that will affect him as a pet. Vic is a pretty boy that is almost all white except for a few small brindle spots and some red freckles in his fur. He raced at 75lbs but has put on 5lbs since he retired and is now 80lbs. Vic turned 3 on March 15th. His sire is the famous Barcelona Boss and his dam is PTL Que. Vic is friendly with a happy wagging tail. He is very quiet in his kennel so may do well in an apartment or townhouse. He is very food motivated so might be great for someone that wanted to do trick or obedience training. Vic was gently curious about the cat and did a lot of sniffing, but eventually wandered off to check out other things. When the cat had enough of the sniffing and growled and hissed at him, he backed off right away and wouldn't get near the cat again. He seemed like he may have had a run in with an angry cat before. He was also good with a small white dog in his first foster home. Vic seems like a very sweet guy that will make a great first or 5th greyhound.

Paisley just arrived from the Running to Stand Still farm in Florida with her sister Faith. She raced a total of 24 races at Derby Lane in Florida before all the Florida Tracks were voted out of business at the end of 2020. Paisley raced her entire career in maiden - the lowest level of racing for dogs that have never won a race. They must win one maiden race to start climbing the different levels of racing and Paisley just couldn't do it before racing ended. Paisley raced at 58lbs and just turned 2 on January 16th. Her sire is Quick Reply and her dam is Gogo Ontario. Paisley passed her cat test easily with no interest at all. She is being fostered with cats and is doing great with them. Her foster home got her hoping that she would do good with their other pets and planned to keep her if all went well so she will be staying. Be sure to check out Paisley's other photos. Lots of cute puppy pictures of her at the farm.

Jessie James came to us as a return. He was initially adopted through Greyhounds As Pets Of North East Florida. They were the track adoption group for the Orange Park Race Track that has closed and the adoption group has also closed. We were asked to re-home him because he attacked another greyhound in his home when it fell and screamed. He is a higher prey drive greyhound and a screaming, thrashing dog can sometimes set that prey drive off. Before that happened Jessie James had lived with other large dogs in his home and had never shown any aggression towards any dog or human. He was just the opposite - sweet and snuggly. Very friendly and silly. While we don't feel this was true aggression, we think he would do best to be placed as an only dog just to err on the side of caution. Although he likes children, because of the incident with the other dog, we would prefer to place him in a home with no kids. He also needs a home with no kitties. Jessie James was born 12/18/16 so he is five and a half years old. His sire is Gable Sour Cream and his dam is BM Murphy. He is a cute brindle male. More as we get to know him.

Special Senior! Greta initially came in from an Oklahoma farm where she had been since she has retired from racing. She raced at Derby Lane, Naples Ft Myers and Flagler Race Tracks. She did get up to the top A level so was good. She race 121 races and retired in September of 2013, and went back to the farm to be a mom. She never ended up actually having pups though and was sent to us in January of 2016 to be a pet. Her sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and her dam is PR's Maddy Rae. Greta is a tiny girl that raced at just 54lbs. She will celebrate her 12th birthday on November 16th so qualifies for our reduced senior adoption fee of $250. Greta was adopted by one of our volunteers after her arrival back in January of 2016. Unfortunately they have been forced to give up their beloved dogs. Her owners are experiencing severe health issues that keep them from being able to care for pets anymore. Greta is a real lover that seeks out attention and follows her family around when she is not dozing on a dog bed. She loves the kids she has met. She is very friendly and happy. Greta came into her home like she had always been there. She was a little interested in cats at first but became very good with cats and chose to avoid them. She was too interested in small dogs that were bouncing or running around, so her initial foster home thought she would do better in a home without small dogs but she has been around small dogs successfully over the years since. Greta is gentle, loving and loves to snuggle. She has no trouble with stairs and easily navigates all types of flooring. She crates well and loves to go for rides in the car.

Some Special Needs Please Read Description! Sammy is a red, male, greyhound that initially came in from a greyhound farm in Abilene Kansas. He just wasn't interested in racing or chasing a lure, so he stayed on the farm until he had an adoption group to take him. He never went to the race track. He was not even 2 years old when we first placed him in 2016. He turned 7 on May 15th. He is a small to mid sized boy that is around 68lbs, but does not have an official racing weight since he never raced. His sire is Last Outlaw and his dam is WW Fast Star. He is a pretty red male that is very friendly and loves everyone he meets.  Sammy passed his cat and small dog tests easily when he arrived. Although he hasn't really been around cats since, he is very good with other dogs of all sizes and breeds. He loves to play and run with any dog that will play with him. He even lives with Parrots! Although he has not lived with kids, his current owner feels like he would probably be good with them, because he is so easy going and loves everyone so much. Sammy is being returned to us because of some health issues his owner is having, she is just not able to care for him at this time. She says he is a great dog. He never has accidents in the house and never has been one to get into anything. He doesn't need a crate because he is completely trustworthy, even unsupervised, and always has been. He has been living as an only dog in his home, so would be fine in that situation. Sammy does have some quirks. He has never learned to be comfortable on slippery floors in his home, even after 5 years. He has just alerted his owner when he needs to go somewhere and she has pulled him on a dog bed to where he wants to go. He needs a home that is mostly carpeted. He also needs a one story home because he is very uncomfortable on stairs. He just had 5 stairs to go outside to go potty at his former home. He would go down them, but then would dance around and was too scared to come back up them without help. He never got over that living in the same home for 5 years. Sammy is mostly a homebody and on walks he will sometimes just stop and turn into a statue, not wanting to walk any farther. He won't jump into a car and needs to be helped in. Many, if not most greyhounds come to us with similar quirks and usually quickly get over their fears with some encouragement and training. Sammy lived with a dog trainer and she wasn't able to get him past his fears, so we just want to find a home that he can be comfortable in from the start. If you have a mostly carpeted, one story home, without too many stairs to access your yard, you could be the family for Sammy. He also needs a family that is OK with a dog that is a homebody and doesn't like to go for long walks. Although Sammy is fearful of a few odd things, he is not fearful with people and is a very happy, loving, boy that is very very good and never gets into any trouble. Sammy is doing well in his foster home so far. He will be checked over by our vet in Columbia and get his vaccinations, heartworm test, fecal and a fresh dental and be ready to go home on February 2nd.

Road Runner initially came in from the Sanford Orlando Race track in Summer of 2017. He is an XL red male that never actually had an official race. He just didn't do well enough in race schooling. He weighs 88lbs and is a big, happy, bouncy guy that has a wonderful, outgoing personality. Road Runner turned 6 on October 1st. He has been in an adoptive home since October of 2017, but they have one toddler and another baby on the way and just don't have time to spend with him. Road Runner's sire is Dyna Nalin and his dam is Time Release and yes he does have a brother named Wile E Coyote. This cute guy passed his cat and small dog test easily. When the cat ran, he did show some interest, but wouldn't actually get near the cat even then. He appeared to already understand that cats have claws. He lived with small Italian Greyhounds in his foster home and loves them. He tries to get them to play with him. He likes toddlers and babies and everyone he has met. He is a very joyful guy and everything makes him happy. He would be an excellent dog for someone that wants a very social dog they can take anywhere. He loves other dogs and tries to get everyone he meets to play with him by offering a play bow. Road Runner is definitely going to be a fun guy for a lucky family. He travels very well. Even as a young dog he was pretty calm and well behaved. His foster home loves having him as a guest because of his happy, silly personality. Road Runner was returned to us earlier, after being in an adoptive home for just over a month, again a return that was not due to anything he did.

Dutch had a few schooling races at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville. He was so far behind the other dogs that he wasn't even in the video at the finish of his first 3 schooling races. He had 3 more schooling races and wasn't able to win one, so was retired in April of 2019. He was placed in an adoptive home by the track adoption group there with a female greyhound named Zoe. Now that family has grown and they are having a difficult time keeping up with 2 large dogs in addition to small kids. The adoption group at the Orange Park track disbanded after the track there closed in 2020. They gave us permission to help the owners re-home Dutch and his housemate, Zoe.  Dutch is a brindle male, DOB:  04-06-2017 that is 4.5 years old. His previous owner describes him as an “Old Soul,” very gentle, affectionate, a true couch potato. Dutch is pretty sensitive to his environment and loves routine.  He dislikes being crated, having his nails clipped and does not handle non-carpeted floors well - and may freeze on slippery floors. The noise of the outside street sweeper scares him too. Dutch rides well in the car, but takes longer to lay down than Zoe. He is excellent on leash and does not pull. He does well with children and does well with other dogs at the dog park. He still needs to be tested with cats because he hasn't been around them in his adoptive home. He is described as “super-sweet,” but isn't the most confident guy. He does love his toys though.

Dutch has been adopted and is now being called Moose.

Squirt just arrived from the Roban Farm in Florida. He was born there and has lived there all his life. He had a nerve injury to his front leg when he was a pup that prevented him from racing. He was tattooed at 3 months with the rest of his litter, but never completed the registration process normally done after a year old. So he never got an official racing name. He has been called Squirt his entire life. He has been kept as a pet on the farm, but they have stopped raising dogs there due to the end of racing in Florida. They were unable to keep all their pets when they lost their income. His former owner had a hard time parting with Squirt and he had a hard time parting with her. He is a happy guy that loves to play ball and loves to play in the hose. He has a significant permanent limp on his front leg that has been examined by our vet. It is nerve damage and lack of feeling in the leg that causes it and she doesn't believe he is in any pain. He can still run very fast, mainly on 3 legs, and it doesn't stop him from chasing a ball. He does need a little help getting in and out of a vehicle because of that foot not having much feeling. He doesn't seem to be able to tell when it is on the ground or if it is right side up or knuckled under. He does use the front leg for balance when standing and walking slowly. It has been part of his life since he was a puppy, he has no idea there is any problem and rarely lets it slow him down. In his photos, Squirt has a little bit of redness from where his muzzle rubbed his nose on the trip up from the farm. That is completely gone now and the hair has grown back. Squirt is very loving and gives kisses and follows his people around. A very good boy that seems like he will be a pretty low key, easy guy. He can be a little sensitive and nervous just at first, since he has limited experience with life off the farm. He does travel well and just lays down. His sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and his dam is Taylor May Duffy. He was born on August 2, 2016 so just turned 5. Squirt is a small male that weighed just 62lbs at his vet appointment but could stand to gain a few pounds. He was vetted at Emerald City Vet hospital. Squirt has lived with cats and is very good with other dogs of all sizes. He is food motivated and eats very well. Although he initially will stop at at the entrance to a new crate, once he is in the crate, he settles and lays down and crates well. Squirt was in an adoptive home for a month and was having potty training issues there. He was fine before and once back in foster care and so far has had no accidents in his foster's home. He may just need some supervision and some guidance as all dogs do when moved to a new space until he learns where to go.

Zoe initially raced 49 races at the Orange Park Race Track in Florida and her call name there was Arizona. She is a tiny red female that raced at 57lbs. She wasn't a great racer competing mainly at the lowest D level. She raced her last race in December of 2019 and had a career ending injury that required surgery on her back leg at that time. She is long healed from that surgery and made a good recovery. Arizona was placed in a home with a male greyhound named Dutch after she recovered. Now their owners asked for help re-homing their two dogs because they have an expanding family, and cannot give the dogs the time and attention they need. Her adoptive family renamed her Zoe and her DOB is 09-26-2017 so she is 4 years old.  Zoe is super-affectionate, very confident, and likes to play and be the center of attention. She walks beautifully on-leash and doesn’t pull. Zoe gets along with other dogs at the dog park. She needs testing with cats because she has never been around them. Zoe as been around children and loves them, she also rides in car well. She can be a bit of a marker so will need supervision at first in a new home until she learns where to go. Zoe and her housemate Dutch don't seem to be very bonded or dependent on each other so we think they will be fine to place separately.

Special Needs - Seizures! Frank raced 9 races at the Sarasota Race Track in Florida. He wasn't able to win any of those races, so was retired young. His last race was in February of 2017 and he was placed by a local adoption group in Florida, that has since gone out of business. Frank has been living with a family since 2017 that has relocated from Florida to Mooresville NC. They have reached out to us for help in rehoming him. Recently he has developed seizures, that have decreased somewhat with meds, but haven't completely resolved. His family has a baby and Frank can not be around the baby or the rest of the family because of the danger to the baby if he hits him or kicks him when he is having a seizure. They don't feel like this is a good life for Frank and are hoping to find him another family without babies or small children. Hi likes kids and would never intentionally hurt one though. Frank likes everyone and everything, he lives peacefully with a cat in his current home and has been sweet and gentle with every human and dog he has met. He is a very sweet guy.Frank has been seen by their vet and is currently on two medications Levetiracetam and Zonisamide but that hasn't resolved his seizures. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Frank, please contact us. We can discuss the cost of the medications he is on and give you more information. Frank was born on May 25th of 2014 so he is 7 years old. He is a handsome black male. His sire is Yahoo Omar and his dam is BWG Lanai.

Nicky just arrived from the Xtrem Hess Racing Kennel at the Wheeling WV Race Track. He arrived with his sister Kayjay Hailee. He only raced at total of 5 races and finished toward the back of the pack in all of them. He was retired young and won't turn 2 until Dec 27th. He is a pretty tall for a dog that raced at only 74lbs. He has more of a narrow build then some. His sire is Superior Panama and his dam is Flying Supervolt. Nicky seems a little overwhelmed with everything new in his life so far and is pretty timid, very much like his sister. Nicky seems like a pretty calm boy for as young as he is. He traveled well and was completely quiet in his crate on the dog haul. Since, he has made some noise in his kennel at his foster home, so may not be the best choice for apartment living. He passed his cat and small dog tests easily and really didn't want to get close to the cat. He has been living in a foster home with cats. Klieman just arrived from the Code Red Racing Kennel at the Wheeling WV Race Track. He also raced at Palm Beach in Florida until all the tracks there closed. Klieman raced 72 races and was a grade A racer at Palm Beach. After moving to Wheeling he quickly dropped down to the lowest D level and was retired. Klieman is a handsome, dark mahogany, red brindle boy. His pictures don't capture how dark and pretty his color is. He raced at 82lbs so is an extra large guy. He is a very tall thin guy with extra long legs. Klieman seemed a little overwhelmed at first. He is a little reserved with people he doesn't know but just at first. Once he gets to know you he will talk to you and give you kisses. He doesn't pull when walking on leash. He seems pretty humble and unsure of himself, not a confident, pushy guy at all. Klieman was afraid of the cat when he met it and didn't want to go anywhere near it. After he got more comfortable in his foster home, he started chasing cats, so needs a home with no kitties now. Klieman passed his small dog tests. He seems like a gentle giant of guy. Klieman turned 3 on May 26th. His sire is Super C Riddick and his dam is BS Pengo. He was vetted at Emerald City Vet Clinic on Oct 29th. Klieman picked up steps right away and is not worried about slick wood floors even if he slips. He is still very submissive and sweet. He is food motivated and if you have food he will quickly be your best friend. He is the rare greyhound that might bark at intruders. He saw a couple of donkeys in the field near his foster home and barked a warning about the strange looking critters. Klieman's foster mom says he visibly relaxes when other dogs are around so may do best in a home with at least one other dog.

Rosa came in initially from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She wasn't even two yet when she first arrived. She just wasn't very interested in racing so never actually had an official race. Her sire is the famous DJays Octane and her dam is Alissa's Posa. Rosa was was quickly adopted by her foster family and was with them for a year and a half. She was returned because her first home had some serious health issues that made it impossible for them to care for a dog. Rosa was quickly adopted by another family and has been with them since but a deployment and family illness has forced them to re-home her again. Rosa turned 6 on January 26th. She is good with kids and small dogs. She passed her initial cat test with us with only a little interest, but showed more interest in cats after she got more comfortable in her home. She has been living in a home with a bunny but still is way too interested in chasing cats so we think she should be placed in a home with no kitties.  Rosa is doing well in foster care since she arrived. She has been vetted at Emerald City Animal Hospital and is healthy and ready to go home. Rosa is adorable, playful and affectionate, ready to make some new friends! She will bounce happily when you come home and greets everyone with the same happy bounce. No one is a stranger to this sweet girl.

Joey just arrived from the Xtrem Hess Race Kennel at the Wheeling WV race track. He raced a total of 70 races there mainly at the mid C and B levels. Joey is a smaller guy that raced at 67lbs. He turned 3 on May 5th. His sire is the very famous SH Avatar and his dam is Gable Gulp. Joey is a pretty brindle guy with a white chest and a little white streak on his nose. His foster home says Joey is a really good boy. He walks pretty well on leash and was pretty quiet all night in his kennel. He is curious about everything new in his new life. He loves people and his foster mom had a hard time getting photos because she couldn't get more than a step away from him without her following him. He passed his cat and small dog test so should be OK to live with both. Joey will be vetted at Evans Animal Hospital on Nov 10th. More as we get to know him.

Hawkeye just arrived from the Extrem Hess Racing Kennel at the Wheeling WV Race Track. He also raced briefly at Dubuque in IA. He only raced 20 races and managed to win just one of those races. He was retired young and just turned 2 on October 26th. Since he is so young he is pretty energetic and curious. Hawkeye is a very friendly guy too. He needs some work on walking nicely on leash because he goes from place to place checking everything out. He is very strong and a very big boy with a racing weight of 82lbs. He traveled well on the dog haul in his kennel but has made some noise in his kennel since being in foster care so may not be the best choice for apartment or townhouse living. His sire is FGF Chisum and his dam is TB's Flo Rita. He will be vetted on November 10th at Emerald City Animal Hospital. More as we get to know this young guy.

Kaage in Augusta GA
Adoption Status: In Process to the Kondek Family of FL 11/13/21

Special Senior! Trey originally came in from the Goodman Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track back in 2016. He is a small 68lb brindle male that turned 9 on August 26th so qualifies for our reduced senior adoption fee of $250. He also raced briefly at Derby Lane early in his career. He was a top level racer in Orlando competing and winning at the top A level against the best dogs at that track. Trey's trainers were very attached to him and planned to keep him as a personal pet after he retired. They rescued a small dog from a bad situation, so weren't able to keep another dog when Trey finally retired though.  When he first arrived at their race track kennel he was very shy and overwhelmed. They worked him through that and helped him build his confidence in the year and a half he raced with them. His trainers said he was the absolute sweetest boy once he warmed up. He was really upset when the hauler came to take him out of the kennel to bring him to us and he had a moment of panic. He was better by the time he reached us and didn't tuck his tail or really seem shy at all. He seemed to be adjusting to home life remarkably well in foster care and didn't seem like a really shy dog at all. He was adopted in November of 2016, but progressively got more and more fearful with the family and even developed a fear of the yard. Trey spent a lot of his time in the bedroom away from everyone so eventually they decided that he would do better with another family. Trey is not shy with other dogs large and small and has lived with both. We would prefer not to put him in a home with children since they can be loud and scary. We think he probably needs a quiet home that will let him initiate contact when he is ready. Trey's sire is Odd Ulysses and his dam is Topaz Sallyhally. Trey was adopted by his foster home in September of 2017 and has had a great life with them. Unfortunately his adopters have had severe health issues that prevent them from being able to take care of their beloved dogs so they have asked us to re-home them. This is a photo of Trey when he first arrived from the track.

He was a kennel favorite and was described by a former trainer as a super sweet, fun, guy that is very good and doesn't get into any trouble. He raced 72 races and got up to the top A level briefly. Silly Pepper is a handsome, shiny, black guy that raced at just 65lbs. He is a small guy. Silly Pepper turned 3 on June 10th. Adoption Status: Adopted by the Bartels family of Lexington SC 11/13/21

Hailee just arrived from the Xtrem Hess Racing Kennel at the Wheeling WV race track with her brother Kayjay Nicky P. She only raced 5 races there and came in toward the back of the pack in every one of them. She was retired young and won't even turn 2 until December 27th. Her sire is Superior Panama and her dam is Flying Supervolt. Hailee raced at 62lbs and is a natural sitter. A sit isn't that comfortable for most greyhounds because of the way they are built, but she will sit in her crate frequently. Hailee was pretty shy and overwhelmed with all the changes in her life at first. Her brother is also pretty shy so it seems to be genetic shyness that runs in some families of greyhounds. She seems like she wants to interact with people, wagging and dancing around you getting her courage up to approach. She definitely prefers women over men and is more timid and likely to bolt away if approached by a man. Her foster family has been leash walking her to potty in their fenced yard and she does potty on leash nicely. She has been doing some whining in her kennel so probably wouldn't be a good choice for apartment living. Hailee will need a little time to warm up to her new family. She was initially very curious about small dogs she met, but after prolonged sniffing and figuring out what they were, she seems like she may be fine to live with them. She will just need a careful introduction with small dogs that look like squirrels or bunnies. She has not been cat tested yet. She as vetted at Emerald City Vet Clinic on November 4th. While she was at the vet they said she was leaping up in the dog runs nearly to the top so she will need to have a yard with a 5 foot fence or a family without a fenced yard that will leash walk her to potty. This is a sweet cute little girl with a lot of personality waiting to blossom for the right family.

Special Placement Needed! Tenor just arrived from the Wheeling WV Race Track. He also raced at Palm Beach and Gulf Tracks before they closed. He was a good racer getting up to the top AA Level at Wheeling which is one of the most competitive tracks. This guy has talent and is fast! His last race was in May. Tenor turned 4 on August 17th. He is a handsome red male that raced at 71lbs. We do have some photos from his race days. His sire is Atascocita Gray and his dam is Atascocita Dory. We placed a half brother of his, same mom, named Atascocita Lip. Tenor passed his cat and small dog tests without much interest other than sniffing. His trainer says he is a great guy that is very friendly and loving with people. He told us Tenor could be bossy and snappy with the other males at turn out though. We did see that behavior after just one day in his first foster home, so we think that he would do best in a home as an only dog or at least as an only male dog. Tenor is doing great with the older dogs in his second foster home so may prefer the company of calmer dogs. He seems to have made himself comfortable right away and has been sleeping on his back with his legs in the air in the famous greyhound 'roach' position. That usually means that a dog is very relaxed and comfortable. This guy seems to know he is a star. Tenor will be vetted at Emerald City Vet Clinic on November 10th.

Logan just arrived from the Roban Farm in Florida. He was born and raised on the Gurley farm in Florida though. He raced 35 races starting out at Orange Park in Florida before it closed and racing the rest of his career at Wheeling in WV.  He was a very good racer getting up to the top AA level in Wheeling which is one of the most competitive tracks in the country. He was retired on January 16th of 2021 and sent back to the farm to be a dad. With the end of racing in Florida they decided not to breed more racers ands he was sent to the Roban farm to be a potential stud dog to produce pets for people that wanted to buy greyhound puppies. His personality is absolutely the best and he would have had the best pups. The Robans ended up having to cut back on dogs at their farm so decided not to breed him and sent him to us to be a pet. He is one of the sweetest, friendliest greyhounds we have ever met. He stares lovingly up into your eyes and chooses to stay with people over playing with other dogs. He just wants love and will wrap himself around you. He didn't seem too stressed by the new surroundings and goes up to complete strangers for petting. He doesn't like to jump up into a vehicle yet but once in he lays down and travels really well. He has a pretty big overbite which makes his long nose eve longer. He will grin at you if you pet his face beside his mouth. Be sure to look at all his photos to see his different grins. Logan is a beautiful rich dark red with a white blaze and feet. Very flashy. He is a very tall, narrow guy with very long legs that raced at 77lbs. He is as tall as a 90lb stockier greyhound he was fostered with because of his lanky delicate build. He was born on October 17th 2017 so celebrated his 4th birthday while a foster with us. Logan will make some very lucky family the best pet. He can be a little loud in his crate at first but that is the only negative we could come up with. He was great with a puppy and a small dog he met too. He might be trainable with cats because he did correct but returned to excitedly checking out the cat quickly so we think he would do best in a home without cats. Logan was vetted at Emerald City Vet Hospital

Special Senior! Rayne is a small brindle female that raced at 57lbs. She initially came to us from the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Kennel after she retired in 2017. She was a good racer, consistently competitive at the top A level. She raced 135 races and also raced for a short time at Wheeling and Southland tracks. Rayne's sire is CTW Silverstreak and her dam is CTW Unreal. She just turned 8 on May 18th so qualifies for our reduced senior adoption fee of $250. Rayne was born and raised at Clear The Way Farm in Texas. She is a happy girl that has a great personality. She is very curious about everything, but quiet. Rayne loves cuddles, naps, walks, squeaker toys and she is a great hugger. She likes her kennel but is well behaved when out. She isn't destructive. Rayne is wonderful, lovely and silly according to her foster home. Rayne loves to go for rides and has been living in a motorhome. She is very outgoing and is great at meet and greets and out in public. She does like to get up on beds and couches.

Rayne was adopted by a family on 8/13/17 but is being returned to us due to a divorce and schedule change that leaves her alone for long periods. Although we initially had her listed as no cats her former owner says that she is fine with cats now and even chickens. Rayne has been living as an only dog but she does have some anxiety when she is left alone for long periods so she may enjoy living in a home with other dogs. Her previous owner says she is a wonderful girl that has been a loving companion. She is great with other dogs and kids. Rayne does have a condition that is mostly seen just in greyhounds. She has painful corns on the pads of her feet which prevent her from walking comfortably on hard surfaces for long distances. In most cases the corns can not be cured but we can give her adoptive family more information on treatments that may help. Each dog is different and they don't all respond to treatment. Surgical removal of the corns should NEVER be done! It is extremely painful for the dog and they always come back.

Hi my name is Ozaki and I am special because I have 3 legs! Ozaki came in to us initially from the Mardi Gras Race Track in Florida. He was a good racer and also raced at Dubuque and was a finalist in the 2016 Iowa Breeders Cup Stakes Race. He only raced 36 races though. He broke his leg at the end of December 2016. His racing owner had an expensive surgery done to fix the leg before we got him. He was rehabbed at the track in the kennel there for months. When he was sent to us, he still had swelling and infection in the leg and was not healing up well. Our vet did a biopsy on his leg to find out what was going on. It turns out he had an infection that was resistant to common antibiotics, and we had to change his treatment to daily antibiotic injections.  After 2 weeks of daily injections the leg continued to get worse and the daily antibiotic injections caused a huge open spot between his shoulders and a lot of pain. Our vet felt the infected leg was beginning to poison his body and needed to be removed. Ozaki came through the amputation great and did fantastic on 3 legs. His trainer had told us about his great friendly, goofy personality and said he was one of his favorites in the kennel. The staff that worked with him at our vet clinic agreed. One of them fell in love with him and adopted him once he was released by the vet. Ozaki raced at 79lbs. His sire is the very famous SH Avatar and his dam is Money Maid. Ozaki turned 7 on June 11th. When Ozaki first arrived he seemed like a sensitive guy that was a little stressed about the haul and everything new. When we were loading him in the van he had to be lifted in, then wouldn't put his legs down. We had to slide him in on his side on the dog beds. That one step up just made him literally freeze. He was OK a second later, up on his feet sniffing around. Sweet, goofy, guy! He is very friendly guy but may have just a bit of a dramatic side.

Ozaki was adopted in June of 2017 and was happily living on a farm with cats, other dogs and farm animals. He never has had any trouble getting around on 3 legs and runs nearly as fast as a 4 legged greyhound. Recently his family reported that he was being destructive and chewing things and returned him to us to be re-homed. So far he has not had any bad behaviors in foster care and has settled right in without any trouble. He seems like he is a very well behaved guy with great house manners. He could resort to chewing again if he gets bored, but just using a crate or a kennel muzzle when he isn't supervised would easily prevent any damage. He gets along well with his foster mom's other dogs, small and large. He and one of his foster mom's other males sleep cuddled up together on a dog bed. Although he loves kids when he meets them, we don't think he should live in a home with small children. His former family reported that he could be protective with his space when he was laying down on a couch or bed - they didn't allow him on furniture for that reason.

Kap came to us from the Daytona Race track because her kennel closed. She wasn't there long and never had a single official race. She was only a year and a half old when she retired in 2015. She was adopted 7/31/2015 and her name was changed to Rosie. She has been in an adoptive home since then. Rosie will turn 8 on December 11th. She is being returned to us with her housemate Bryant due to a divorce. They are very bonded and we are looking for an adoptive home where they can stay together. Rosie is a smaller girl that is just 58lbs. Her sire is Gable Sour Cream and her dam is WW Key Kap Rosy. She is very friendly and waggy with a tail that curls up over her back more like a husky than a greyhound. It is very very cute and makes her a one of a kind. She did complain some at first in her foster home so may be too loud to be an apartment dog. Rosey passed her cat and small dog tests with flying colors and has lived with cats in her previous home. Her trainer brought her 3 boys to work in the kennel with her so she is used to being around kids. Her adoptive home had 2 special needs kids that she did well with too so she has always been around children.

Rosie was adopted with her housemate Bryant by one of her foster homes. Unfortunately she started limping only weeks after her adoption and was diagnosed with bone cancer. Her pain progressed quickly and she crossed the rainbow bridge

Bryant came to us at the end of 2016 from the Daytona Beach Race Track. He came in with his brothers Stihl and Benton. He is the only one of the brothers to ever have an official race. He only had 3 races though, and finished at the back of the pack each time, so was retired young. Bryant was adopted January 1st of 2017 and has been in an adoptive home since then. He turned 6 on April 9th. He is one of the tinier boys we have seen, racing at only 63lbs.  Bryant passed his cat and small dog tests easily. He is very used to being around kids, his trainer had her kids work with her in the kennel and he lived with 2 special needs children in his previous home. He was returned to us with his housemate Rosie due to a separation. He and Rosie are very bonded and we would like to place them in a home where they can stay together. His sire is Abita Simon and his dam is Magic Patti. Bryant is a sweet friendly boy! His trainer said that she put the brothers all out together because they were too whimpy to be put out with the other boys. The other boys would pick on them. Bryant hasn't read the book that claim greyhounds are quiet and he does bark sometimes, mainly when the ice maker makes ice. He likes to ride curled up in the front seat of the car, but if he slides off he is perfectly happy to ride with his hind end on the floor and his chest and head on the seat or the reverse of that. He makes himself comfortable wherever he is and is usually upside down with his legs in the air sleeping in the "roach" position.

Bryant was adopted with his housemate Rosie by one of his foster homes. Rosie was diagnosed with bone cancer and passed away shortly after adoption but Bryant is doing fine by himself.

Lily came in from the Running to Stand Still farm in Florida. She was tattooed but never completed the registration process to get a racing name. She has been known as Lily her whole life. She is not going to race due to the closure of all the tracks in Florida. Lily is young and turned 1 on August 3rd. Her sire is Makeshift and her dam is Lilly Langtry. Since she never raced we don't have a racing weight for her. She arrived with her littermate Aspen.  Lily's owner says she can be a bit shy at times, but she has handled the move to us very well and has been very friendly and happy so far. Lily has never had the training that most greyhounds get at the track so still needs leash and manners training. She passed her cat and small dog tests easily so should be able to live with either. She has been in a foster home with cats. She is good with them most of the time, but sometimes still is interested in chasing when they run and play so she would need more training and close supervision in a home with cats. Lily was vetted at Oasis Animal Hospital in Mauldin. Be sure to look at her other photos to see pictures of her at 3 months old on the farm.

Thor initially came in from the Orange Park Race Course in Jacksonville FL last year, at that time he was called Sharky but his first owners renamed him. He also raced at Gulf, Dubuque and Southland tracks so is quite the traveler. Although he raced 55 races, he was never very good, and only won 3 races. Thor mainly raced at the lowest D level. He is the most laid back, relaxed dog ever according to his foster dad. Nothing phases him and he just goes with the flow. Very sweet guy! Thor turned 3 on June 12th and is a big guy racing at 80lbs. His sire is Gigawatt and his dam is TB's Flo Rita. Thor was adopted in September of 2020 but his family has asked us for help re-homing him and his housemate Valkyrie due to a divorce. His former family did not have a fenced yard, so he should be fine going potty on leash in another home. He is already home acclimated and should be an easy addition. His family did not have any kids but says he likes kids and was great with the small children he was around when with them. His former family did not own small dogs or cats so he hasn't lived with either but he passed his test with both at the track before he arrived. His current foster family is planning to adopt him but has reported a lot of interest in their cats. They are hoping with some training and time he will get better.

She did place a lot though. Jean raced at 60lbs and turns 4 on July 6th. Her sire is the famous Seldom Told and her dam is WP Black Velvet. Her last race was Feb 24th of 2020 and she was with the track adoption group at the track and was vetted there on 5/6/20. Jean passed her cat test there and ignored the cat at first. Once she got used to the cat, she wanted to play, but she backs right off when the cat slaps her. She has done well with the small dog in her foster home. Jean was adopted to a family and has been with them for about a year. They are having a baby and don't have time for her anymore so would like us to find her another home. She is a good girl according to her family and is great with their cat. She isn't being returned due to anything she did. Her family says she is a bouncy, happy, girl that has a fun level of energy.

Faith came in initially with her sister Paisley from the Running to Stand Still Farm in Florida. She raced just 4 races at Palm Beach in Florida before all the tracks in Florida closed for good at the end of 2020. She was just getting her career started but finished toward the back of the pack in the few races she did have so probably would not have had a long career anyway. Faith raced at 61lbs and just turned 2 on January 16th. Some of our volunteers visited the farm she was raised on so have photos of her taken throughout her life. Be sure to click on her other photos to see them. Her sire is Quick Reply and her dam is Gogo Ontario. Faith was placed in a home but they reported that she was never happy there. She was there for a month, but they said she didn't want to interact with their dogs at all and was protective of her food. When we got her back she was underweight and very hungry, which could have caused her odd behavior. She had shown no sign of any food issues in her foster home or with any other dogs previously and was a happy go lucky girl. She was happy and wagging her tail as soon as she saw her foster family again. She has had no issues with any of the other greyhounds in her foster home and interacts with them normally since she has been back. Even though she has never shown any sign of aggression to people we would prefer to not place her with small children that might grab a bone or mess with her food just to be on the safe side. Faith does have a high prey drive and did not pass her cat test. She hasn't lived with tiny dogs, and can mistake them for squirrels, so needs a home without kitties or small dogs. Faith has been back in her foster home for some time now and has been a wonderful happy girl since she walked through the door. We put Faith on vet hold due to her weight loss to be sure she was healthy but she is gaining weight back and is fine.
