Hounds
Retired racing greyhounds available for adoption through Greyhound Crossroads in Upstate South Carolina.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR ADOPTERS!
As of January 2026, Greyhound Crossroads has once again gathered more adoption requests than we will be able to fill in the near future. Therefore, the request list is currently CLOSED to NEW ADOPTERS. We remain focused on dogs being returned to Greyhound Crossroads, and those displaced by not having their original groups to go back to. Those options are extremely limited.
Those already on the list will continue to hear from our volunteers as dogs become available. You will be contacted if we have a greyhound that will be a good match. That may take awhile. We suggest making an adoption donation of $650 WHEN you get your greyhound to help us cover its' medical and transport expenses. We never charge a fee to apply.
If you are already a Greyhound Crossroads adopter and wish to speak with us about adoption possibilities, you can email us at GreyhoundCrossroads.

Disco Pants (Billy) is ready to boogie his way right into your heart! He is arriving soon from Ireland where he raced 63 races at Tralee, Shelbourne Park, Limerick, Cork, Mullingar, and Clonmel. He was a good racer winning 18 of his races and placing in many of the others. His last race was July 6th of 2024 and he has been waiting on a home since then. Billy raced at 76lbs and his DOB is March 15 2020. His sire is the famous Kinloch Brae and his dam is Bling Bling Lola. This very affectionate boy absolutely loves being close to his people. Whether it’s leaning in for pets, following you from room to room, or settling in for a cozy nap nearby, Billy is happiest when he’s sharing his space — and his big loving heart — with you.Billy walks nicely on lead and enjoys getting out and about. However, if a rabbit or squirrel makes an appearance, his inner athlete wakes up! A handler who can gently redirect him and keep a steady hold will do just fine. He gets too excited about cats to be able to live with them. Billy does well with quiet, well-behaved dogs and would thrive in a calm home where he can relax, feel secure, and soak up plenty of affection. If you’re looking for a sweet, loving companion with just the right amount of sparkle, Disco Pants (Billy) is ready to dance into your life! |

Ding Dong is a sweet boy with a very silly name. He was born in Ireland but raced in UK at Oxford Race Course. Ding Dong was a very good racer running at A level and winning 12 of his 52 races. He almost always placed in the top 4 in every other race. He weighs 70lbs, so is a mid-sized male. His sire is Cabra Firmino and his dam is Black Buzey. He was born September 1st of 2022. He did not pass his cat or small dog tests so needs a home without them, everything small looks like a squirrel to Ding Dong. He is in a temporary foster home now in Florida and is doing really well there. They say that he is getting better with smaller animals the longer he is exposed to them. They report that Ding Dong loves meeting new people and loves walks, toys and petting. He walks well on lead and eats well. Ding Dong would be fine as an only dog, but he wouldn't mind a home with a female dog - he likes the ladies. His foster home has reported no food aggression or sleep startle. |

Marshall is arriving soon. He is an Australian guy that never raced. He was born on January 6th of 2024 so is just 2 years old. He is a beautiful dark almost brown and black brindle and is one of the tiniest males we have placed at only 57lbs. His foster family calls him Marshall because like a US Marshall he investigates everything. He is sweet and curious and likes older kids, other large dogs, being outside and running around. He doesn't like other dogs to bother him when eating. His foster home is working on that. Marshall also doesn't like sudden loud noises. Marshall should be small animal workable with close supervision. He is just very curious about everything he sees including cats and small dogs. More when we meet him. |

Mystery is an affectionate white girl with black spots that was initially adopted through another group which has now gone out of business. She has been in an adoptive home for years, so is already home acclimated. Mystery never raced but does have tattoos. She is a friendly girl that does the big greyhound grin that is a submissive, happy gesture. So cute! Mystery needs a home without cats. Although she initially tested safe with small dogs, over time, as she got more comfortable she decided she didn't like the small dog in her first foster home. Mystery is a confident girl that can be bossy with other dogs in her home. She is doing very well in a foster home with one other submissive greyhound but didn't do well in a home with a number of other dogs. She would be perfect for a home without any other dogs or just one other larger submissive dog. She would prefer not to have to share attention with a lot of other dogs. Mystery weighs around 63 lbs. She likes to play in very short spurts, but is mostly calm and enjoys her naps. She does complain a bit when separated from her humans, so she's probably not a good choice for apartment living. Mystery walks perfectly on leash, staying quietly by your side, so would be great for families who like to go for walks. What a great girl just looking for the perfect home! |

Diamond just arrived from the Tri-State Race Track in WV. She only raced 7 official races there and finished toward the back of the pack in all of them. Diamond was retired young and won't turn 2 until May 4th. Her sire is Jackslittlething from Ireland and her dam is SE's Lil Money. She is a small female, racing at 60lbs. Diamond was too interested in chasing the cat to be able to live with kitties. She was fine with the small dog she met though. Diamond liked the kids she met and pretty much loves everyone. She is an attention hog and wants all the love from everyone she meets. Diamond is a very confident girl that does what she wants and can be a little pushy about it. She is likely to be the queen of the pack in any group of dogs. She has a little muzzle rub on her nose right now, but that it looks like the hair should grow back. This cute little girl has a TON of personality and is going to be the llfe of any party. Diamond does seem to need a home with another dog. She cried and stressed, when crated by herself away from other dogs. |

Toast just arrived from Tri State Race Track in WV, where he raced 83 races. He was a good racer getting up to the top AA level, winning 11 races and placing in a lot more. Toast is a mid sized male, racing at 73lbs. His DOB is 8/31/22, so he won't turn 4 until the end of July. Toast's sire is the famous Highly Classified and his dam is ABS Almighty. He has mixed reactions with cats so needs a home without them. Toast was good with the small dog he met. He is an extremely confident guy, that loves people and wanted to help drive on the trip to SC. He can be a bit pushy about getting what he wants. He seems like a natural leader of the pack type guy. Other than being a bit bossy,Toast has done fine with the other dogs in his foster home. He did stress when being left completely alone at first, but has improved has done OK as an only dog in his current foster home. Toast liked the kids he met, but he does like to give hugs, so could easily knock over a small child. We think he needs a home with older kids only. He is doing great in his foster home. He reacts with curiosity to everything and is fearful of nothing so far. Toast is a lot of happy dog that is going to be the life of the party. His favorite thing other than being with his people, is playing with toys. |

Kordell came to us directly from the WV farm where he was born. He had an injury to his back when he was 3-4 months old. He got the injury when playing with other pups and his owner wasn't sure what actually happened. Kordell recovered, but his back has always looked a bit different - a little more bowed than most. But nothing even that noticeable. His owner knew he wouldn't be able to race, so he never went to training or to the race track. Kordell runs and plays and doesn't seem handicapped by his injury. Our vet says Kordell is healthy and his old injury is healed. Kordell is a very young guy that won't even turn 2 until May 31st. His sire is Top Of The Pile and his Dam is Fly Margorie G. Kordell has been a little nervous, as expected, with all the changes he has experienced since he left the farm. He is very loving though and seems like he is going to be a velcro dog. He wants to be with people and especially seems to love children, most of the time. Although Kordell normally seeks out attention from kids, he has gotten overwhelmed by too much attention a few times. He is being fostered with small kids in his foster home, but he may do better in a home with older kids, that can understand that dogs sometimes need space. Kordell passed his initial cat test easily without any interest. He has been fostered with cats since and he has been more interested in them once he was more comfortable so does need some supervision with them at first. Kordell did well when meeting a small white dog. He was good with the other greyhounds in his foster home and seems like he needs another dog to hang out with when left. He barks and fusses when left completely alone. This is a great pup that is going to be a wonderful pet. He is a mid-sized guy that probably weighs around 65lbs, but needs to gain 5-10 lbs. His racing owner says he tends to stay on the thin side and can be hard to keep weight on. Kordell has gained confidence in his foster home and is settling in very well. |

Shear Volume was called Savannah at the WV farm she was raised on. She came to us with her brother Jim straight from the farm. They just never did well enough in training to make it to the race track. She is a very young girl that won't turn 2 until April 12th. Her Sire is RCK Goneinaflash and her dam is RCK Golden Grace. She is a mid sized female that probably weighs in the lower 60s, although she doesn't have an official racing weight. Savannah was described to us as a girl that really loves attention to the point of being 'needy'. A really sweet girl. So far she has been pretty overwhelmed by her first trip away from the farm, where she was born. She is shy around people that she doesn't know so will need some time to warm up. Savannah really loves her crate and considers it her safe place. She will choose to be in there even with the door open. Savannah passed her cat test with only a few sniffs and no interest in chasing. She was also great with the small dog she met and seems to like children. So far, Savannah is pretty calm for such a young girl. She got along with all the other greyhounds she met too. She seems to be a bit more shy with men than women but her owner says she will warm up and be a very affectionate girl given time. |
