Northern was a very successful racer that has 232 races to her credit all at a track in Mexico which may be a record for dogs we have adopted out. After she finished racing she had a second career as a mom in Kansas and has 13 puppies listed. Northern is a sweet, friendly girl that seems like a pretty calm girl. She has that quiet confident manner that momma dogs seem to have. She is very pretty. Her sire is the famous Gable Dodge and her dam is Flying Charmin. She celebrates her birthday on April 29th and doesn't look her age at all. She is quiet in her crate.

McKinly raced at 71lbs and is a gorgeous white boy with big black spots. His birthday is July 11 and he will turn 3 then. He recently retired from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. His trainer described him as very friendly and calm.  He is a Jimbo Scotty pup so is a half brother to quite a few nice dogs we have adopted out. McKinly is adjusting very well to foster care and is a quiet, sweet loving boy that is very laid back. He is good with other greyhounds and passed his cat and small dog test so should be good to live with either. He is great on leash too. Seems like this guy is going likely to be a wonderful easy addition to just about any home. He has been wonderful in his foster home and is very well behaved. Great with the 4 kids in his foster home.

McKinly passed away suddenly due to a probable stroke in Dec 2012

Blade is an extra large male that raced at 87lbs and weighed in at 99lbs at the vets when he was returned to us. We usually try to keep greyhounds within 5lbs of their racing weight so he has been on a diet but is an extra large greyhound. Blade's sire is the famous Flying Hydrogen who is owned by one of our volunteers. His dam is Slatex Alice. Blade retired from the Sanford Orlando Race Track in Nov of 2012 and raced before that at Gulf and Bluffs Run tracks so is a bit of a traveler. He has 49 races listed but looks like he was just too big to be a successful racer because it doesn't look like he won even one race. He did place in some though. Blade has been living in a home since he retired and has very good house manners. He does have a very high prey drive so needs a home without cats and small dogs. He just mistakes small furry critters for bunnies and wants to chase them. Blade seems like a calm, confident guy that adapts well to where ever he is. He is an easy going, calm guy and is very good on leash in spite of his extra large size. He potties on leash and is quiet in his crate so may do well as an apartment dog. Although we have seen no sign of it, we were told that he could be protective of his space when laying down. Even though he has lived with kids before, we would prefer not to place him with young kids because of that. We were also told that he could be protective of his family and would bark at strangers. That behavior is very rare for greyhounds and we have not seen any of it- just the opposite. All we have seen is a friendly, happy, sweet dog that loves everyone he meets and seeks out attention from complete strangers and happily allowed the vet and her staff to handle him. If you want a big guy that already is used to living in a home and will be very loving Blade is your guy.

Brooker raced years ago in Orlando. His sire is Craigie Booker and his dam is Windy Wendy. Brooker is a small gorgeous boy.  He has been in a home for years and was surrendered to us because he had some grumpiness over his space that concerned his owners that were new parents. They didn't think he would be good with a toddler. He has been in foster care and so far we have not seen any grumpiness over space whatsoever even though we have bothered him when laying down and sleeping. Because of his owners saying he had some space issues in the past we put him down as needing a home with no small kids.  He has been nothing but calm, sweet and well behaved since he arrived though. Brooker is very friendly and waggy so much so that he injured his tail while wagging and had to have it removed. He is a leaner that will put his head in your lap for love and just stand there as long as you are willing to pet him. Brooker is very cat friendly showing no interest in them even when they are running around outside. He crates well and seems to be a great guy that is already home acclimated. He crates well and quietly so might be a good choice for a townhome or apartment. He loves to play with toys and is a very young 7. With his great looks and sweet personality we think he will find a home quickly.

Mo and his brother Larry originally came to us from a farm in Wheeling WV. They never went to the race track or actually raced. Their sire is Iceman Brutus and their dam is WJS Raina Jem. The brothers will turn 4 on September 19th. Mo is the darker of the two brothers and is the more laid back of the two boys. He is very friendly and good on leash. Mo never had one potty accident in his foster home and is very well behaved and never gets into trouble. He is a very tiny little guy at just 62 lbs. Mo loves to snuggle and is very loving. Mo loves playing but does have some arthritis in his knees starting that prevented him from racing. We have him on supplements for his knees. Mo passed his initial cat test but has wanted to play too rough with cats in one home. Not trying to kill them, just playing but we think he would do better in a home without cats or maybe in a home with a really mean cat that would set him straight from the beginning about appropriate play. Mo and his brother Larry have been in an adoptive home for a year and were returned to us. They were kept in an outbuilding all night instead of staying in the house with their family and were barking.

Ellie May is a beautiful girl that just turned 9 on June 10th. She has been checked out by our vet and is healthy. Ellie May is very sweet and gets along well with everyone and is very well behaved.  Ellie May has lived for years in an adoptive home as an only dog and has great house manners. Her adoptive mom has been forced to give her up because of severe health problems that prevent her from caring for a dog. Her adoptive mom was hoping she would be able to recover and keep Ellie May but after having her boarded for 6 months made the difficult decision to let her be rehomed. Ellie May only has one behavior problem,  she doesn't like to be bothered by other dogs when she is eating and sometimes growls at them to get them to back off. Our foster home simply feeds her in her crate and that prevents all problems. With any dog that shows even minor possessive behaviors like this (even though it is normally with other dogs and not people) we won't place the dog in a home with smaller children. That is the only reason that she has that restriction, she does like children and has been good with the ones she has met. She is living with small and large dogs in foster care and is fine with them. She loves to play and tries to get the other dogs to run and play with her. She doesn't act like an older gal at all and seems to be the life of any party. She has figured out the doggy doors in her foster home so is a bright girl and proves that older dogs can learn new tricks. Ellie May is a very sweet, happy girl that is very friendly and loving. She loves dog beds and seemed to settle in easily and didn't even skip a meal. This is a great girl that would be happy as an only dog or one of several. She passed her cat test so could live in a home with cats. Her sire is DC's Wooster and her dam is Greys Gold Coast. Because she is a senior Ellie May qualifies for a reduced adoption fee of $200. Another contribution has been made toward her adoption fee thanks to the generosity of CrazyCollars.com.

This pretty red boy is a son of Flying Hydrogen who is a famous stud dog that one of our board members adopted. Seems like he inherited his dads wonderful sweet laid back personality and good looks. They couldn't be more alike. Town's birthday is April 20th and he is 4 years old. Town has been settling in to his foster home with no problems whatsoever. He crates willingly and quitely and is so well behaved. He passed his cat test with only a quick sniff so should be fine living with cats and small dogs. Town is a typical lazy laid back guy that naps a good part of the day. Doesn't seem to be bothered or annoyed by anything and gets along well with others.

Tucker is a very light fawn male with light colored tips on his fur that the folks at the track referred to as "champagne colored". He is a tall guy that raced at 76lbs. His birthday is March 25th and he is 2 years old. He is a Kiowa Mon Manny Pup so is half brother to some other dogs we have adopted out. Tucker is a super friendly, happy boy that has a tail that wags most of the time. He gets so excited to see everyone and bounces happily which can be a little overwhelming for toddlers and younger kids. He likes kids but is a little too enthusiastic to see kids sometimes so we think he should live with older kids only. We are working on teaching calmer greetings.  Tucker is very young at just two and greyhounds tend to mature slowly so he still has a lot of fun pup in him. He was very bad walking on leash when he arrived because he is strong, curious and wanted to check everything out. He is much better now but still needs some reminders when he gets excited. He has done great with the small dog in his foster home and others he has met so would probably do fine in a home with smaller pets. He also passed a couple of cat tests with no interest. Tucker is always happy and seems like he will make a fun pet for some lucky family. He is quiet in his crate and potties quickly on leash so may be OK in an apartment or townhouse. He is young and still pretty energetic so will need to go to a safely fenced area to run a couple times a week or he will need to go on walks or jogs to drain his energy if he doesn't have a fenced yard to play in. Tucker wants to please and readily offers behaviors trying to figure out what you want him to do. He already has learned lay down in his crate on command before being let out. He picked up on potty training right away. He really shines at meet and greets and goes up to each person that comes by giving kisses and leaning into them for love. If you want a happy, friendly, waggy, young boy this is the guy! RIght now his personality is more lab like than greyhound like. Such a sweet guy!!

Tucker crossed the bridge due to bone cancer as a very young dog within a year of being adopted.

He is friendly, calm and sweet according to his trainers at the track. He will celebrate his 3rd birthday on May 20th. He ended up passing his cat test at the track on the second try but was interested in the cat the first time they met so we have him listed as cat trainable. McCoy was a dark brindle male that came from the Orlando race track. He raced at 69lbs.  McCoy was born on July 1st 2008. He passed his cat and small dog test and was great with the small white dog he is living with in his foster home and the animals at the vet clinic he was boarded at. He was a friendly boy that wags his tail a lot but he wasn't a confident guy at all. He loved people and wanted to interact but circled around play bowing and trying to get their attention at a bit of a distance at first. Once he warmed up he would play and get quite silly. He had the most gentle loving eyes and cute puppy face. McCoy arrived with a tail injury. We tried to get it to heal up for a month but he wags so hard that he kept injuring it again. We ended up having to amputate his tail. It is pretty common to see greyhounds with no tail and is the mark of a very happy waggy dog. McCoy was adopted 1/1/12 but sadly passed away due to bone cancer shortly after adoption near his 4th birthday.

Fly is a gorgeous fawn male that just turned 4. His birthday was November 20th. He is a very small guy that raced at just 64lbs. Fly is seriously handsome and is a very good boy too. He quickly settled into his foster home and learned the house rules nicely. Fly is a happy, playful, friendly guy that still seems almost puppyish at times because he is so small and cute. He is a very outgoing, curious guy that doesn't seem to be upset or scared by anything. He loves people and loves to snuggle and will lean on you to get just as close as possible. He's learned "out" (as in, out of the kitchen), "outside", "go to bed" (go to your crate please!), and "wait". Fly has a higher prey drive but was able to live with a small dog that looked like a white bunny in his foster home. He just needed a few sniffs to realize that it was a dog and not something he should chase. Like many higher prey drive greyhounds he automatically assumes anything small is a bunny or a squirrel until he sniffs it. Because of his prey drive Fly has to have a home without cats. If you have a small dog we can test him individually with your dog since he has been OK with most with proper introductions. He plays nicely with the other dogs in his foster home but prefers to be with people most of the time over playing with other dogs. Fly can be loud when left alone in a crate so would not be a dog for apartment or townhouse living. If you want a cute, loveable guy that will be totally devoted to you Fly is the one!

Fly is a hero!! He donated blood at our vet in an emergency situation to help save a Great Dane!!!

He tries his best to be a big lap dog and follows his foster parents around. He loves people and wants nothing more than to stay close to them. This guy would love to lay on the couch and snuggle. He seem like a very tolerant guy that would be excellent with other dogs because he is unusually good with two puppies living in his foster home.

Sophie has been living with a family for years but one of her owners was diagnosed with cancer and is facing a very difficult future and is no longer able to care for Sophie. She was loved and cared for and they will miss her terribly. Sophie will celebrate her 9th birthday on May 24th.

Update: Sophie is settling in beautifully in foster care. She is the easiest foster!!! She has nice leash manners, is completely cat, small dog and kid safe and is absolutely, reliably house trained. She is a complete love sponge, and would gladly let someone pet her 24 hours a day. She is a young 9 years old, and loves to go for walks. She went for her first walk on the beach a couple of days ago, and it was very exciting for her. She just loved all the people that wanted to pet her. She rides in a car perfectly. Sophie likes to sleep on the couch and in the bed. She is the only dog that the cat in the foster home has ever allowed to sleep with him. That's how sweet and gentle she is. She is also smart and eager to please. For a person or family that is looking for a calm, gentle, older dog, Sophie could not be more perfect!! She has the CUTEST stand up ears and gives sweet kisses and is the best snuggler!

Sophie is being rehomed by our group with permission from Linda Ann's Greyhound Rescue, the organization which originally placed her 3.5 years ago.

Lady is very sweet and was a little shy at first but has really adjusted well to her foster home now. She loves toy time when all the toys are unpacked and everyone scampers for their favorite. Lady romps and plays with the other greyhounds in the backyard. She meets you at the door with tail wagging and smiles. This is a very sweet girl! Lady has lived in a home with children and was great with them. She gets along well with other dogs of all sizes and cats. Lady has already been home acclimated and has had perfect manners so far in her foster home. She was a pretty good racer until she broke her leg. That ended her career as a racer but she went on to be a brood mom and produced 6 pups that were born in 2007. Although Lady walks and runs fine, sometimes when standing she holds up the leg she broke so may have some arthritis in it, which is not unusual. Lady has had a string of bad luck and ended up being picked up as a stray at one point and lived in a backyard and wasn't allowed in the house at another home.  Although her behavior seems to be excellent; sadly, she has been in and out of several homes and is now looking for another family to love at 8 years old. We are hoping her run of bad luck will change and this home will be the forever home she has been dreaming of. Since Lady has has been very quiet and well behaved we think she might do OK in an apartment. What a precious face!

Hunter is a 75lb deep red male that has had a successful racing career and was a finalist in a stakes race!! His birthday is Nov 5th and his sire is the famous Flying Hydrogen. He has lived in a home before so is already home acclimated and has good house manners! Hunter is very calm and laid back but still enjoys playing. Don't let Hunter's sad eyes in his photo fool you, he is a very happy, loving, outgoing boy that craves attention. His foster home says "lives for love". If you want a dog that wants to stay close and is always happy to see you, Hunter could be your boy. He was returned after about a year because his owner developed life threatening health problems that prevented him from caring for a pet. Although Hunter lived in a townhouse with his previous owner, he can be a little vocal sometimes in his crate. We don't think he will be a good choice for a townhouse or apartment unless his new owner is home with him all the time like his previous owner was. Hunter needs rules and boundaries set and will quickly obey because he wants to please. He thrives in that type of situation and just wants and needs to know what you want him to do. Hunter loves kids but does tend to over react when it comes to play or a perceived threat, so we think he would do better actually living in a home with no kids. Hunter likes other dogs and but can get too rough very quickly so needs to be placed as an only dog. He was an only dog in his first home and was fine with that. Hunter passed his initial cat test but he did try to chase a cat in one of his foster homes so has had mixed results. Hunter can be protective of his home and space with strangers so would need a quiet home that doesn't have a lot of guests.

Moose was an extra large white and red male that raced at 92lbs at Derby Lane and Jefferson County Kennel club until retiring in Feb of 2011. His sire was the famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam was Flying Vaughn. He was adopted by the Johnson Family of Greenville and was a gentle giant that helped them raise a greyhound puppy. He encouraged greyhound adoption by going to many meet and greets and did home visits with his owner Joanne.  He also was a member of the Hounds of East Fairhaven performing at the GA and Carolina Renaissance Festivals. Many people fell in love with greyhounds and adopted because of big Moose. He was a very calm lazy guy but always loved any chance to chase a lure or a toy.  Moose loved to snuggle with his owners and loved everyone he met. He was great with cats, birds and the small white dog he lived with and seemed to love all creatures. He had just passed his therapy dog test just a week before he died. Moose was lost way too soon when a realtor left a gate open and he got hit by a car on Feb 5th 2013.

Fib has earned a new name. She is so devoted and stays so close to her foster mom that she started calling her Shadow. As you can see Shadow is a beautiful, dark brindle female. She has the softest fur that feels more like rabbit fur than dog fur. She LOVES LOVES LOVES people and will lean on you for attention - a greyhound hug. Shadow will stand in one spot as long as you will pet her. As you can imagine she is always a real hit at meet and greets with her sweet, friendly personality. FIb loves her squeaky toys and tosses them in the air for herself to catch. She loves playing outside in the yard and will play fetch and actually bring the ball back you. That is pretty rare in greyhounds and most will quickly let you know that they are not retrievers if asked to fetch more than once or twice. Shadow is a fun girl that loves attention and wants to do whatever you are doing. Although she sleeps in her kennel at her foster home she would prefer to sleep in the room with her family when she finds them. Shadow is a confident girl that gets along well with other dogs but is likely to want to be the dominant female in her home. She tested cat and small dog tolerant at the track. She initially showed some interest in the cat in her foster home but has gotten used to living with cats now. She initially mistook small dogs for bunnies too at a distance but was fine once she was properly introduced and got a good sniff. She should be fine now that she has spent time with both. She has done great on potty training and will let you know when she needs to go out. This fun loving girl is in search of a family with lots of love to give and she promises to give even more back.

Princess is a beautiful almost all white girl that has just a bit of brindle over one eye, her tail and a bit on her ears. Her birthday is October 1st 2004. Sadly she is a Economy Return, available again through no fault of her own. This is her 4th return and none have been her fault. The first was because another dog in the home didn't like her, the second was because she became terrified to go outside after being attacked by a loose dog, and the last two have been economic returns. The families have said she is an angel with no behavior problems at all. This is a sweet girl that has already been house trained and learned good manners. She is a sweet, friendly girl that has just a tiny bit of a timid side from time to time. She has lived with cats, small dogs and a number of children from babies to toddlers to teens. She adores kids and is very good with them. She likes other dogs male or female and gets along well with them. We are hoping her 5th adoptive home will be her Forever Home. Princess has had more than her share of bad luck already.

Update:Princess Consort (Sasha) was adopted into her 5th (and forever) home with us (Duncan and Carmen McManis) when she was 7 years old.  She loved to race (and often beat) younger fosters around the yard. Sadly 4 years later they lost her to bone cancer. We will always love and miss this super special girl.

Jake is another economic return. He and 4 other greyhounds were rehomed because their family moved and could not take them along. Jake was a very successful racer and retired about 2 years ago. He is already home acclimated because of his time in a home as a pet and has wonderful house manners. He was not returned because of any behavior problems and is quite the gentleman. Jake is an unusual very light fawn color and is a large, gentle guy. Jake was fond of a 9 month old grandchild in his previous home and is in a foster home with children. He seems to enjoy having kids around. He also has lived with cats and small dogs before so would do great in a home with either. Jake is a friendly, happy, loving guy that gets along well with other dogs. He is pretty laid back lower energy guy so would be great for a busy home that didn't have a lot of time or energy to exercise a dog. Jake travels well and enjoys going for a ride. He is already a great pet with lots of love to give and will be an easy addition to some lucky home.

Kiki raced at 66lbs and her birthday is Feb 1st 2002. She is one of the most affectionate dogs to ever visit her foster home! She's one of those greyhounds that truly wants to be part of your life. She is the type of dog that people dream of, one that will follow you around from room to room and lay down calmly next to you to keep you company. She's completely clean in the house, crates immediately at the request to 'go to bed' and loves to get up and relax on the couch with you. A true couch potato. Kiki has the sweetest little long face and expressive ears that fold forward whenever she's excited about something. Her foster family has noticed her ability to pick up new commands very quickly and she is highly motivated to make her humans happy. Kiki has a bit too much prey drive to be considered safe with cats.

Kiki has been in a home before and has excellent house manners. Unfortunately she was dumped at an animal shelter. We are lucky they called us so we could find her another home. She has been returned to the care of the excellent foster home who had her before she was adopted. Because she is a senior girl Kiki qualifies for a reduced adoption fee!! Kiki has a clean bill of health without any known problems from being a slightly-older girl. This is a great girl that comes already home acclimated. All she needs is a couch and someone to love her back.

Although he was initially a marker he has learned quickly that he can't mark in the house and is doing great on his potty training. Rhythm is playful outside and tries to get his foster sister to join him running around the backyard. He seems to get along well with other dogs. He is a very happy, sweet loving guy that loves attention. Another great guy that should be a fantastic pet. His pedigree

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Horton Bottiglier family of Greenville SC, 11.17.10

Raccoon is a friendly girl with very unusual markings. She got her nickname at the track because of the black around her eyes. We haven't seen a fawn dog with this much white before either. She has a white blaze, a wide white collar around her neck, white stockings that go nearly all the way up her legs and half of her tail is even white. Raccoon figured out how to get off her kennel muzzle at the track so she ended up being the only greyhound that didn't have to wear one. She got along well with all the other girls in the turn out pen so she never really needed one. Raccoon loves to play with toys and carry them around. Her favorite at the track was an old cleaned out bleach bottle that she would proudly carry around. She figured out steps right away and has no problem with them. Raccoon has shown that she has a pretty high prey drive but has been OK with the small dog in her foster home after a proper introduction and supervision. She seems to be OK with cats too after an initial sniff but needs to be supervised when cats or small dogs move quickly around her at first until she realizes what they are. She responds very well to correction with cats and small dogs. Raccoon can be loud in the crate sometimes so may not be a good dog for apartment living. She has learned to potty on leash so may be able to live in a home without a fenced yard if her family was willing to leash walk her.

Raccoon was loved by the Horton Bottiglier Family of Greenville SC for over 5 years. Sadly Raccoon crossed the bridge 1/18/16 due to bone cancer.

He likes water and as you can see in his photos loves to lay in the baby pool. Tony has been exceptionally well behaved in his foster home and seems to like the small dogs there and never tries to chase them. He gets along well with the big dogs too. He likes the children he has met so should be fine in a home with them. Tony is great on leash and doesn't pull. He might be a great agility prospect because he can clear a 3 foot fence with ease. He will need fencing that is higher to contain him. This is a great boy! Link to his pedigree

She was back at the kennel when our group arrived to pick out dogs and Kim and Robert fell in love with her. Pooh lives to chase squirrels and you can tell she does a lot of squirrel chasing because she is so stocky and muscular. She look more like a body builder than a thin greyhound. She is a sweet friendly girl that never met a stranger. She can be a bit bossy with her brothers and is a very confident girl.

This guy is tall dark and handsome with personality plus! He and Motif (another of our available hounds) look like twins. Anyone for a matched pair? Chris raced 62 races at Palm Beach. Sara was born Feb 4th of 2005. She raced at Valley race track in Texas and Dubuque before moving Woodlands in Kansas. From there she went to the Birmingham race track and retired from there in Jan 2009. A family adopted her directly from her trainer along with a male greyhound. Sara ended up having an accidental litter of pups in Jan of 2010 which is how we ended up with her. Her family couldn't financially care for her and the pups and she was relinquished to an adoption group and eventually moved with some of her pups to our adoption group. Sara was an excellent mom to her pups for 5 months before being adopted by the Roepke family of Columbia, SC. Sara was small, friendly, brindle, beauty with a waggy tail and a fun, playful personality. Sara was good with cats, kids and small dogs and everyone she met. Her favorite thing was to play at a dog park and was the rare greyhound that could run every day and keep up with other breeds energy wise. Of course she was much faster than the rest of them. Sara loved to go for rides and walks and was her owners "best friend". We had get togethers with Sara and her pups and she always remembered them. Gracie is home acclimated and has been in a home for several years since she retired from the track. Her birthday is Feb 20th and she is 6 years old. Her sire is Coldwater Konow and her dam is Moon Mt Treasure. Gracie walks and potties beautifully on a leash so would be fine with a family without a fenced back yard. She is safe with everything and has lived with cats and small dogs before. She crates wonderfully with no noise, and is very content on a dog bed. She has the cutest windmill tail, it doesn't just wag back and forth, she gets it cranked up and it might as well be a fan! Gracie is very calm and quiet. Her story has a new chapter, because she's coming back to our group in the hopes of finding her another location that suits her quiet tendancies better. Her current family loves her, but they feel she never became comfortable with their active lifestyle. Gracie, as they call her now, is a wonderful girl who needs a more low-key environment. She is good with kids but has been choosing to stay in the bedroom rather than being out with the family so her family thinks a home without small rowdy kids might make her more comfortable.  If you're looking for a home-acclimated, well behaved girl, she's waiting for you!

ScoobyDoo is a beautiful boy and very good too! He is a big guy that raced at 80lbs that is still a playful pup at heart. He has those sweet big eyes with lots of eyeliner that will melt the heart of a greyhound-lover! He has showed no interest in chasing cats or small dogs so could live with either.  Scooby seeks out the company of children when he has been around them. When visiting our vet for his neuter, he made lots of friends there playing with the staff. This guy has personality plus and was one of the kennel favorites at the track because of his silly happy personality - it was also what got him his nickname of Scooby Doo. Nothing seems to bother him and he will want to do whatever you are doing. This is a guy that just wants to be with you although he will happily crate if you are gone.

Update after adoption: Scooby Doo has been renamed Chase and is now a Therapy Dog!

Chase crossed the bridge in 2014 due to what the vets believed was a brain tumor.

He loved for anyone to scratch his big head and back, and even seemed tp smile. His favorite part of the day is taking an evening walk. When he heared the leash rattle, he came running and started jumping up and down. He was the lead dog in the pack, but he was a gentle leader who rarely asserted himself. CJ also enjoyed playing with his stuffy toys, but only when one of his people played with him. He was a well-balanced and well behaved boy who was a great family member. She does well with children but, would probably be best with children over 8 years. Gem seems to have a special affection for the man of the house and would be a wonderful pet for a retired owner or a stay at home parent. Gem cannot go an entire workday without going outside but, could probably easily learn to use a doggie door. She is well behaved, walks well on a leash, loves squeaky toys and is quite a love. Ramses is a loving, sweet boy who turned 7 in August. He is cat and small dog tolerant and great with children. He's fine with stairs and happily jumps in and out of vehicles to go for a ride. Ramses is home acclimated and has lived in a home for years. He is available for adoption because his owner couldn't keep him and not because of any behavior problems. Ramses loves to go for walks and bounces with joy when he sees his leash. This is a great, friendly boy that couldn't be any sweeter.

He is a very small male racing at just 63lbs.  Little Richard is living in a condo foster home so would make a great apartment dog. He is very quiet and potties well on leash. Richard is cat, small dog and child friendly and should do well in most any situation. He is such a sweet guy that prefers to follow his humans around and be near them.

Wally is a great older guy that has been in a home so has good house manners already. He was returned to our group through no fault of his own. His family just didn't have room for him. Wally has no idea he is a senior and still runs and plays with the younger dogs and has a great time. This is a precious guy that just wants a couch to call his own and someone to scratch his head.

Wally is a very special case, a senior boy who has some special health considerations.  A very kind supporter has donated his adoption fee to help him go home! His pedigree

Update after adoption: Wally's is doing well in his home and was crowned King of the Beach 2010 at Beach Bound Hounds in Myrtle Beach.

Tequila is a sweet, happy, playful, older girl that was discovered wandering loose, starving and in horrible condition. She had been in an adoptive home for years but wasn't cared for and looked like she had even been attacked by another dog. This was one of the worst neglect cases we have seen. Tequila still looks pretty rough now and doesn't have much hair due to a skin condition that will require some baths a couple of times a week for awhile. It looks like we have made some progress already and soon Tequila will be back to her former beauty with some TLC. Tequila has great house manners and has fit into her foster home like she has always been there and enjoys playing with their greyhound. She is very friendly and is good with other dogs, cats and kids. Tequila is a good girl and is looking for a family that will love and appreciate her. She should be a wonderful easy addition to just about any family. She only has 2 races listed at the now closed Plainfield track. Her sire is Flying Train and her dam is Marvelous Missy. She was born on June 10th 2000.Congratulations to her foster family that decided they couldn't let this one go!

Update after adoption: Tequila has become a meet and greet dog for Greyhound Crossroads! She attends events encouraging people to adopt greyhounds. She lives in the country and loves taking walks with her dad. She has completely gotten over her skin condition and has a healthy full coat now with only a few scars to remind her of her past. Tequila crossed the bridge on 10/11/13.

Ethan is a small male at only 66lbs. Ethan has been in a home and has great house manners. He was just returned to us to be rehomed because of a weight restriction change at the apartment he had been living in. Since he was over 50lbs he had to go. He was not rehomed due to any behavior problem and doesn't seem to have any. He is a quiet guy that has lived in an apartment so would be perfect for an apartment or townhouse. Ethan likes his crate and often chooses to sleep there with the door open. A few greyhounds are smilers and this is definitely one of them. Ethan will grin up at you if he is happy and will grin even more if he thinks he might be in trouble. His foster family says he is a sweet, friendly, loving boy that couldn't be any nicer. This is a well behaved, easy guy that would be perfect for a first or 4th greyhound. He gets along well with other dogs and cats and likes children. This is one super guy! And SO cute!!

Carl is a total love bug! He may have been quiet and calm initially, but now that he's settled in he is most definately a bouncy energetic 2 year old. He'll settle down (on a pillow) when told to, but would rather be playing with a chew toy. He's never met a stranger and isn't shy about pushing to the front of the line when loving is being given out. He lays his head on the other pups backs or on your lap or arm when he wants attention. He has the most bewitching golden eyes, so don't look into them unless you're ready to fall in love! Nothing intimidates this confident boy. He's great on slippery floors, and stairs. He did well meeting small dogs but is not cat safe. On walks, he doesn't tug on the leash but does tend to wander in any and every direction to make sure he doesn't miss a thing. Reminders to stay focused are helpful. He isn't food aggressive at all but sure does love his chow, hopping up and down when his bowl is carried to the crate and he chomps his teeth. It's not a fast chatter but a very slow chomp, and really adorable. He will go in his crate when told to kennel up but he is the last one in. He is a beautiful solid brindle, not a white toe or even on his chest. Very affectionate and energetic!

Carl was adopted and had a good but too short life. He passed away on 5/4/13. Carl was hit by a car after a tree fell on his fence and allowed him to escape his backyard. RIP Carl.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Bryce Family of Aiken 8/17/13

Buck is a calm but friendly guy. He is a very well behaved, tall, handsome guy with lots of dark eyeliner around his expressive eyes. He raced at a thin 80lbs and weighs closer to 85 now. Buck was returned by his adoptive family because they had a baby. Buck hasn't had much experience with kids and his one quirk is that he is very uncomfortable with kids. He has always backed away from them and tries to avoid them so they felt he would be very uncomfortable and unhappy in a home with a baby. So Buck is looking for a new home with no small kids. Buck turned 7 on March 20th. We originally got him from Jefferson County Kennel Club in Florida when he was younger and he has been in a home since then. He only has 12 races listed. His sire is Stan's Boy Flyer and dam is PA's Trudi. Buck is a calmly friendly guy with adults but he really does tend to shy away from kids at meet and greets. Anyone younger than a teenager makes him nervous. He isn't a nervous dog at all otherwise - just the opposite. At meet and greets he loves people that come by and will even will put a paw up and paw at them for attention. Buck likes to run and play and will play fetch with a ball. He also loves playing with stuffed toys. He is good on leash and loves to go for walks or hikes. He likes to go for rides too. Buck crates quietly and potties on a leash so he would probably be very good in an apartment or townhouse or in a home without a fenced yard. He passed his cat and small dog tests and has lived in a home with cats before so would be great for a home with small animals. Buck has great house manners and never has accidents in his foster home. He has lived as an only dog for years so might be a good dog for someone that only wants one dog.

Zeda is a super sweet girl ready for her foreer home. She walks wonderfully on leash, potties well on leash, crates perfectly, is an all around greyt girl. She loves having children around to play with in a fenced yard or inside the house. She seems to do well with all sized dogs except for trying to correct the hyper ones (Aussie or Spaniel types). No kitties or small critters for her please. She bonds very quickly and is attentive to her people and has impeccable house manners. She also loves being with and seeing other greys out at events. If you're looking for a perfectly adjusted girl, ready to fit right into your family, then Zeda is the one for you!
