Laney just arrived from the Brindle Kennel at the Palm Beach Race Track in FL. She raced 121 races there and got up to the top A level of racing so she was a pretty good racer. She is a red fawn that raced at 62lbs. Her sire is KC and All and her dam is BNS Bea. Laney won't turn 4 until November 24th. She is a friendly, sweet girl that started to doze off leaning on us on the trip up. She continued to lean across our lap snuggling even when we stopped petting her. Seems like a very social, curious girl. Laney is very happy and friendly. She passed her cat test with just a few sniffs and stayed far away after one hiss from the cat. She did fine with a small dog she met too and seemed to like a toddler. Laney is a cute, red girl with ears that stand straight up when she is curious about something. She can be a little whiny in her kennel so probably wouldn't be the best choice for an apartment or townhouse. Laney is doing great in foster care and is going to make a wonderful pet for a lucky family. She has the cutest stand up ears and big doe eyes.

Katie was originally placed by our group when she was young in April of 2007. At that time she was called "Gully". She was named Katie and returned in 2008 due to a serious health problem of one of her owners. She was rehomed with her latest owner in April of 2008. Her current owner is choosing to re-homing Katie at 12 years old because she doesn't think Katie is happy after a divorce, move and schedule change. Katie just turned 12 on March 19th. Katie raced only 4 races at the now closed Jefferson County Kennel Club in Florida. She finished toward the back of the pack in all her races, so she was retired young at just 2 years old. We had Katie checked by our vet to be sure she was healthy. Other than a corn on one of her feet, that causes a limp on hard surfaces, she got a clean bill of health. She has lived with cats and small dogs so should be fine to live with both. She is actually going back to her original foster home and they have already decided to keep her, so she isn't available at this time. Katie travels well and wants nothing more than a soft couch to lay on. She is very laid back at her age and just is happy to nap most of the day. She is friendly with everyone. Her sire is Trojan Cruze and her dam is RK Goin Topressu. Her photo is one we had from when she was young.

Elvis is a gorgeous, light brindle guy with gold eyes. He raced at a huge 86lbs. He is retired from Sanford Orlando Track but also raced at Orange Park in Jacksonville FL. He only raced 14 races and only won one of those. Elvis retired a little over a year ago and has been in a home for the last year. His owner died suddenly on April 1st and Elvis ended up at Animal Control. We are making arrangements to get him out right away. He is young and won't turn 3 until May 26th. His sire is Flying Culloden and his dam is SNJ Ginger. Crown Royal is doing great with the children in his previous foster home and several mastiffs that he lived with in his adoptive home. Elvis settled into home life perfectly and is a sweet, gentle giant that seems pretty laid back and well behaved. Since Elvis's owner didn't have cats we still need to test him with kitties.

Barney just arrived from North Shore Kennel at the Palm Beach Race Track. He is just a young guy and just turned 2 on January 28th. Barney never officially raced because he broke a front leg in a training accident. His leg was fixed and rehabbed at the track and the vet cleared him to be transported to us for adoption. Barney can be a little shy at first with people he doesn't know, but he gets over it very quickly. He is very quiet but he loves to run around in the yard then go back to his crate. His favorite thing to play with are empty bottles and he will even fetch them and bring them back to you! He's a sweet boy and will stand there and let you pet him for as long as you're willing to. He loves being around other dogs but he would probably do just fine on his own, too. He's just wants to be loved by his people. Barney passed his cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. Be sure to click on his other pictures to see some adorable pictures of him as a puppy. Barney's sire is Shonn and his dam is Kelso's Linda Ash. As you can see in his pictures Barney is food motivated. He has done well with the grandkids that visit his foster home.

Cat just came in from the Birmingham AL race track. She also raced some of her 105 races at Daytona Beach and Orange Park in FL. Cat mainly raced at the mid B and C levels. She is a 64lb girl with striking coloring. She is mostly black with a white chest and a white collar that runs all the way around her neck. She also has a white blaze on her face and white front legs. The really interesting thing about her coloring is that she has black freckles in the white areas. She is really unusual and very cute. She turned 4 on December 15th. Her sire is Djays Octane and her dam is Thataway Cat. Cat was too interested in the cats and tiny dogs to pass either of those tests, but she seemed to do OK with medium sized and larger dogs. She is described as a very happy girl that loves to give hugs and is a greyhound that grins. She has a wonderful personality and will roll over for tummy rubs. Super sweet girl. She is very quiet and calm. She seems like she would be perfect as an apartment or townhouse dog.

Fostered by (location):
Householder, Charlotte NC Area
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Benfield Family of Concord NC 3/31/17

Special Needs - Needs experienced dog home Jack is a famous boy even though he never raced. He was in the first litter of pups that Greyhoundfacts.org followed. You can see pictures of him and his litter Here. He comes with tons of puppy photos from the time he was born. Jack wasn't that interested in racing and never had one race. He was sent to an adoption group in Colorado when he was only a little over a year old, but they had him for months without any interested adopters. His owner sent him to Florida for a change of scenery in hopes he would find a home there, but that didn't work out because he was still a big high energy pup at that age. He was brought in to our group for an adopter that wanted him. Jack's sire is the famous Paddy Whacker and his dam is Blazin Angelfire. He is a large guy and should weigh around 80lbs.  He will turn 3 on May 21st. Jack has been in several adoptive homes, but has been returned by each due to a variety of problems. He was returned the first time because he played too rough with a 3lb dog in the home, so we had to mark him "no small dogs". Jack was returned again because he was growly with a child when he was laying down. Even though he loved the kids in his foster home, he had to be listed "no small kids".  He was returned again after only a couple of days because the german shepherd in his home didn't get along with him. He was just returned again because they didn't have time to spend with him and he got bored and started getting into things. Jack doesn't like to be crated and complains loudly about it, so he can't be an apartment dog either. Jack has calmed down a lot since he arrived. A greyhounds brain comes in sometimes between 2 and 3 years old and now that Jack is nearly 3 he seems to be a much easier dog. His current foster home has had no trouble with him at all. He has gotten along fine with their smallish to medium sized mixed dog and their greyhounds and has been the perfect house guest. Jack is extremely affectionate and sweet and just wants attention and love. Even though he can be excitable and playful for short spurts, he calms down and can be quite the couch potato now. Jack had mixed results with cats in his foster homes, so we also put him down as needing a home with no cats. He was good with cats most of the time, but he could get excited when they played and ran and wanted to join in. Jack is very outgoing, waggy, friendly and happy. He loves to give kisses. He has a lot of personality and just needs some exercise, leadership and rules for him to thrive. Jack was retired out of training shortly after he was a year old so has been waiting on the right home for almost 2 years now. Could your home be the right one?

Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):
Ng in Columbia SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Dalton Family of Myrtle Beach 3/28/17

Special Needs - Very Shy! Jarrod initially was sent to the adoption kennel at the race track in Jacksonville in November. He was there for a couple of weeks and wasn't doing well because he is very shy. They asked us if we could take him into one of our foster homes to get him home acclimated at the beginning of December so he has been with us for months waiting on the right home. Jarrod never was interested in racing so never had an official race. He is a small guy that weighs about 68lbs and turned 2 on October 13th. His sire is Offthebrakedrake and his dam is Shorty's Nana. He passed his cat and small dog tests and is living with cats in his foster home. Jarrod is a genetically shy boy that is afraid of new people, new things and fast movements. It is his personality and not the result of anything bad happening to him. We occasionally see dogs like him that seem to have something similar to an anxiety disorder and are afraid of everything. He will need a family with a lot of patience that can wait for him to warm up to them. It may take months or a year, before a shy dog like him, gets really comfortable in a home. He is probably always going to want to be a homebody. Going out in public and travel is probably going to be too overwhelming, so his family will need to be understanding of that. We have him listed as older children only because the fast movements and loud noises that little children make will be frightening to him. Like most shy dogs, Jarrod would probably do best in a home with another more confident dog to hang out with. It took Jarrod a couple of months to get to the point that his foster mom could reach out and pet him without him ducking away. He wouldn't approach her at first unless she was kneeling or squatting down. He did sneak up to sniff her when her back is turned. He does seem to want to interact but just has to get his courage up. He plays with toys now and will play bow and bark and run around when his foster mom play bows back at him. He chooses to stay in the room with his foster mom now, rather than going back to his crate or hiding in another room. After a few months he started seeking affection and will come to his foster mom to be petted now. He is very good in the house and hasn't had an accident yet. He goes to the back door when he needs to go outside. He does get loud in the crate sometimes, so he won't be a good apartment dog. Jarrod is a gorgeous brindle boy with very unusual golden eyes. So handsome! It is very rewarding to work with an exceptionally shy dog like Jarrod. When he finally comes around and decides to trust his new family it will be a beautiful thing, but it will take a lot of patience on the part of his new family. He is an exceptionally timid boy.

Fozzie just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course. He is a traveler and raced 85 races at quite a few tracks though. He started out at Wheeling Downs in WV which is a tough track. He wasn't able to win a race there so was moved to Orange Park. He won one race there but then came in at the back of the pack for a few races so he was moved to an easier track still, Melbourne. He quickly got up to the top A level there. He also raced at Sanford Orlando before moving to Birmingham and he raced at A level at both of those tracks too. His last race in Birmingham was an A level race that he trailed in on Feb 21st. Fozzie is a 73lb red fawn male that just turned 3 on March 2nd. His sire is Gable Sour Cream and his dam is WW's Uh Huh. He passed his cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. He is described as a very calm guy that is very social, loving and sweet. His foster home says he is doing great there and is settling in very fast. He is doing great with their child too.

Bug is a very young girl that just turned two on January 24th. She came in from Goodman Kennel at the Sanford Orlando race track. She never did well in race training so Bug was retired without ever actually racing. Since she never raced we don't have a racing weight for her but we guess her to be around 65lbs. She is a beautiful, red brindle with a white blaze, white stockings and chest. Her sire is the very famous Greys Statesman and her dam is Elysiums Joy. Bug is very young so still acts puppyish. She is very friendly and waggy. She loves to travel but tries to climb up into the front seat to help drive. Bug is still wiggly and has a short attention span because of her age. She got better after being in her foster home for a little while, but like a kid, she will need supervision and reminders on minding her manners in a new home. Bug would do great with a family that could provide her with some exercise and play since she is young and more energetic than older greyhounds She is good with the small dogs she has met, but gets a little too excited about cats to be able to live with them. She has done great with the toddler that visits her foster home and seems to really like kids. If you are looking for a young beauty with plenty of personality Bug may be your girl.

He is a very happy, friendly boy that loves people. He is curious about everything and wants to check everything out. He wanted to climb into our lap on the dog haul and when we stopped decided to try to get up on the dashboard to check that out from our lap. He raced his last race in October and was moved to Daytona Beach but ended up not racing any more races there. He is a beautiful, shiny black male that raced at 77lbs. His sire is Dragon Fire and his dam is Kiowa Dance. He is still young and just turned 2 on December 13th. Zen seems pretty calm and well behaved for such a young dog. He has been around kids, ages 5 - 12, in his kennel. They often help their mom out in the kennel. Zen did not pass his cat test, but he did great with the small white dog in his foster home. He is a very friendly boy that just wants to stand near you so you can pet him. He is very sweet. He does pull on leash some to check out all the new things so his foster mom is working on that. He does potty well on leash so doesn't require a fenced yard if his owners are willing to leash walk him. Zen has been pretty quiet in his crate so far so he may be a good choice for an apartment dog. He is a gorgeous guy!

7up's whole litter had call names chosen for them as puppies that were soft drink names. She just arrived from the Waverider Kennel in Daytona Beach, where she raced most of her 171 races. 7up also raced briefly at Sarasota. She is a beautiful, shiny, black female that will turn 5 on April 29th. 7up is a tiny, cute, friendly, girl that likes people. She was good with her trainers kids ages 5-12 that help out in the kennel and seems to love small kids and always goes straight to see any kids that are around. She passed her first cat but failed her second cat test badly, so needs a home with no cats. 7up is a happy, sweet girl that responds well to correction if she does anything wrong. She like to go for rides and walks. Her sire is the famous Trent Lee and her dam is Go Bon Bugaboo. 7up is doing good with the small white dog in her foster home. She is very talkative and will play in her kennel and talk to herself making really funny noises while she rolls around and waves her legs in the air. She is a very silly girl that makes some sounds that we have never heard a greyhound make before. Very creative. Because she does make noise in her kennel, she probably won't be a good choice for an apartment. 7up does potty on leash very well so doesn't require a fenced yard if her family is willing to leash walk her. 7up thinks she is a lap dog. If you are sitting in a chair she will put her chest and front legs on your lap to snuggle while standing with her back legs on the floor.

She competed in a few Stakes races, that only the best racers at the track are invited to and won 3rd in the 2015 Orange Park Marathon. Alice was a successful racer, over both the shorter distances and the longer distances. She is a beautiful, unusual shade of brindle with black stripes over a silvery gray. Very striking! The two girls look like identical twins. Alice is a friendly girl that raced at 64lbs. She turned 4 on December 17th. Our adoption group met her and her sister on a recent trip to the race track and asked to get them when they retired. Alice's sire is Pat C Clement and her dam is Calypso Amy. Alice passed her cat test with just a little interest but did respond to correction well so we think she is trainable with cats. She passed her small dog test easily so should be fine to live with them. Alice is a friendly, sweet girl. More as we get to know her.

He raced at 75lbs and turned 3 on September 12th. Tree's sire is the famous Loxahatchee Dash and his mom is the famous Flying Cleburne. One of our members adopted his mother when she retired too! Tree is a very happy, friendly boy that wags a lot. He is very excited to see his people and anyone else. No shyness here, he seems to love everyone and is definitely a people dog. He is great on leash and would be perfect for a family that likes to jog. He jogs up to 3 miles with his foster mom and stays right beside her and keeps pace with her easily. Tree passed his cat and small dog tests and lived around 2 cats for a few days and was very respectful of them. He loves playing with toys. Tree is vocal and did some barking at first in his kennel, so probably wouldn't be the best choice for an apartment dog. This is a handsome guy that has a lot of personality and he will be a fun dog for a very lucky family. If you want a friendly, happy, silly greyhound, Tree is your guy! Tree has a little more energy than the average greyhound and we think he would be a perfect candidate for someone that wanted to do further training with a dog like obedience or agility. He raced at Southland in Arkansas, then went to Naples Ft Myers track in Florida, then to Dubuque in Iowa, then back to Orlando Florida. His sire is Boc's Blast Off and his dam is L's Sociabull. Verruckt passed his cat and small dog test so should be able to live with either. He is a sweet, calm boy that has been very well behaved in his foster home. Verruckt potties well on leash so may do OK without a fenced yard if his family is willing to leash walk him. He has done fine on steps too. Verruckt whined a bit the first night but was quiet in his kennel after that. Nice boy that has been living in an apartment. Verruckt loves children and loves to play in the yard with the kids in his foster home. Verruckt is a happy young guy that is very friendly. He was in an adoptive home for a couple of months, but was returned due to a job loss. When we got Verruckt back from his adoptive home he only weighed 60lbs so was significantly underweight and is much thinner than his healthy photos below. Our vet checked him over and says he checked out OK and just needs fed more. His foster home says he is eating great and is gaining the weight back already. This is a great guy that is already home acclimated.

He won 26 of his 64 races and placed 2nd in 10 of them and placed in most of the others. Sebastian retired in January of 2015 to the Flying Eagles Farm and became a dad. He has 20 offspring registered already and more probably coming soon. He has been retired from his daddy duties now and has been neutered and is ready for a couch of his own. Sebastian raced at 72lbs and is pretty tall and long legged for his weight. His sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Flying Witness. He is a cute, happy boy with the most gentle eyes and expression. Very outgoing and sweet! Sebastian will turn 5 on February 26th. He did pass his cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either.

Prema just retired from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville Florida. She raced 16 maiden races there, for dogs that have never won a race. She never did well and never actually managed to win a race, so was retired young. She just turned 2 on Feb 13th. Her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Atascocita Golda. Prema is a tiny girl that raced at 56lbs. She is a friendly girl that wanted to snuggle with the people the whole time on her ride up from the track. She was hand picked by one of the trainers we work with for one of our adopters waiting on a dog, so is not available at this time. Prema has been fine with the small white dog in her foster home. More as we get to know her.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the McPike family of Inman SC 2/23/17

Topper came to us in pretty bad shape. He is a tall, white boy with a couple of black spots on his face. The rest of him is white. He was registered to race but never actually had an official race so must have been adopted initially when he was around 2 years old. So it is likely he has been in a adoptive home for at least 6.5 years. We were able to identify him by his ear tattoos to get his racing name and he did have a tag on that said his call name was Topper. Since he doesn't have an official racing weight we don't know exactly what he should weigh but he is horribly thin now. Our vet thinks he should weight around 80lbs. Topper is tall for a male with a big head and extra long nose with a cute overbite. From what we can gather he was relinquished by his owners because they couldn't take care of him anymore. The person they gave him to, tied him out in their yard for at least a week according to their neighbors. That family turned him over to us when we asked for him. When Topper arrived he was very underweight, had lots of fleas, itchy skin and toenails that hadn't been trimmed in a very long time. Our vet checked him over and feels he is healthy in spite of being 20lbs underweight. He is heartworm negative. Topper was neutered already, and we gave him a fresh dental. Topper did not pay any attention to the cats at the vet clinic and seemed OK with a small white dog in his first foster home too. He goes right up to kids when he sees them too and seems to like them. He rides well in the car and crates well. He has only made a little noise in his kennel. He did great at the vet's office and calmly did everything asked of him and didn't seem to mind being handled. He seems like a very calm, sweet boy. He is putting on weight quickly and is gaining strength back after just a couple of weeks in his foster home. Topper turned 8 on July 24th, so that qualifies him for our reduced senior adoption fee of $200. His sire is the very famous Flying Penske and his dam is Arville.

Steve just arrived from the Waverider Kennel at the Daytona Beach Race Track. He is a very young pup that never had an official race. He just didn't show much promise in training. He is a tiny brindle male that won't turn 2 until August 11th. We also got his sister Sakura in the same load. Steve's sire is Go Bon Hawk Talk and his dam is Rido's Honeybear. He was a little interested in the cat at first but corrected well so we think he may be trainable with supervision. He is used to being around kids because his trainer has several kids ages 5 to12 that help out in the kennel with the dogs.

He turned 3 on November 1st. His sire is M's Free Mason and his dam is M's Angle. Vero did not pass his cat test at the track so needs a home with no kitties. He is a super sweet boy with the softest silky ears. After a week in his foster home, he is still curious about everything and wants to be near his foster family, a velcro dog. He does the greyhound lean on you to get petted. He loves pancakes and fried chicken treats. His foster home says he is such a great dog that it is hard not to just keep him. Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Halliwell in N. Augusta SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Mendez Family of Greer SC 2/6/17

Penny just arrived from the Daytona Race Track where she raced all of her 93 races. She just raced her last race on December 10th. She just slowed down a bit and was coming in toward the back of the pack in her last few races, so was retired. Penny raced at 63lbs and turned 3 on September 17th. Her sire is WW Apple Jax and her dam is Oaks Black Betty. Penny is used to being around her trainer's children ages 5 to teen who help their mom take care of the dogs. Penny is timid at first with strangers, especially men and children she doesn't know. We think she would do better with older kids that are calmer and not moving so fast that wouldn't scare her while she is getting used to them. She is the rare greyhound that will actually bark at strangers so she is a pretty good watch dog. She is just going to warn you they are there though and will be too timid to actually try to protect the house. Since she is a vocal dog she is not going to be a good apartment dog. Penny seems to be more outgoing when she is with other greyhounds and will come right up to people when they do. She is more timid when she is alone, but seems like she will warm up pretty fast. Penny will bark and play bow while staying just out of reach at first but after a little while in her foster home she comes right up for snuggles and love. Penny passed her cat and small dog tests at the track so should be able to live with either. She really loves people that she knows and wants to be petted and loved often, she will just need a family that will give her time to warm up to them and get to know them. She does love to play ball, does stairs and has no issues with slick floors. She lets her foster parents know when she needs to go outside and is quiet in her kennel all night.

He did get up to A level and raced in a couple of Stakes races so was pretty good. Prince turned 3 on September 17th and raced at 72lbs. His sire is KC and All and his dam is Fanatic Cynthia. Prince passed his cat test at the track so should be fine to live in a home with cats and small dogs. Prince met some children and was Ok but was a little bit more reserved with them than some of the other dogs. He seems like he is a sensitive boy that can be a little bit unsure in new situations. He is doing great in his foster home. Very sweet boy!

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Harpe Family of Anderson 1/31/17

Quik is a white male with black spots. He initially came in to us from the Orlando Race Track he also raced at Palm Beach and raced 76 races including a few Stakes races. HIs trainer described him as nice and calm and no problem in the kennel. Quik raced at 70llbs and his DOB is 12/16/2009 so he just turned 7. Quik passed his cat test so should be OK to live with cats or small dogs. His sire is TK Quick Strike and his dam is I'm Lovin It. Quick was adopted in 2013 and renamed "Snowball".  After four years with his first family, they moved to a new house and he started having potty accidents in the new house so they sent him back to us to find a new family. It was just lack of potty training in the new home and he hasn't had even one accident in his foster home since we got him. Dogs don't generalize well so no matter how well house trained they are in one home they do need initial supervision and potty training when they go to a different house. There is no way for them to automatically know that the rules in all houses and buildings are the same without being shown.  He had been living with four children in his former home and is very good with the kids in his foster home too. He will lay with his head in their laps and loves to cuddle with them on the couch. Quik potties on leash and has recently learned to go up and down steep indoor stairs so he would be OK being leash walked in a home without a fenced yard. This is a great chance to offer a home to a slightly older boy who is already a pet and home acclimated. The photos we have of him are from 4 years ago.

Bishop just arrived from the Palm Beach Race Track. He is a gorgeous, 73lb black male with ears that stand straight up when he is curious about something. He raced only 14 races before injuring his leg in a fall on July 1st. His leg was fixed, splinted and rehabbed by a vet in Florida that worked with his racing owner and trainer. He is out of the splint now and healed up so was cleared to travel to our group to be adopted. He turned 2 on October 15th. His sire is Venus Espinosa and his dam is Kiowa Lee Philli. Bishop is a friendly, playful boy with a very cool personality. Bishop loves to go for rides in the car and is a very good traveler. He loves to run around and play with toys and his old leg injury doesn't seem to slow him down. He plays nicely with the other dogs in his foster home and is all about getting his people and his friends to play with him. Although he is silly and playful he does calm down. He is a very sweet, snuggly boy that is quiet in his kennel. He is going to be a fun boy for a lucky family. He did pass his cat test with no interest so should be fine to live with cats and small dogs. He will need to be discouraged from rough play with either though because of the size difference. He didn't even get excited when he saw rats at PetSmart so appears to be able to live with small animals.

Kahr is a sweet, friendly, red brindle female. She came in from the Daytona Beach race track with her sister Kimber, that we already placed. Kahr only raced 6 races and didn't win any of them so was retired at just 2 years old. She raced at 59lbs. Kahr turned 3 on October 21st. Her sire is JJB Good As Gold and her Dam is MJG Purse Buster. Kahr was adopted by her foster family a year ago, but was returned for her safety because a female pit bull in the home attacked her repeatedly. Kahr did nothing to initiate the attacks, the most recent was when she was sleeping. Her owners had taken in the pitbull from the streets and couldn't find her owners. Initially, they tried to find a rescue group that would take a dog aggressive pit, but had no luck. After several attacks, they made the tough choice to rehome their own dog Kahr for her safety, since the Pitbull didn't have the option of going to another home. Kahr travels well and has excellent manners and is already home acclimated. She is very loving and sweet and her owners loved her very much. Kahr passed her cat and small dog tests so should be able to live with either. Kahr was badly injured in the attack and spent over a week at the vets and has many many staples, stitches and open areas that can not be stitched. She had a long healing process with frequent visits to our vet and bandage changes but finally was released by our vet to go home. Her photos here are the ones taken a year ago before she was attacked.

She raced most of her races in Birmingham but also raced briefly at Melbourne, Sarasota, Mardi Gras, Palm Beach, Naples-Ft Myers, Flagler and Tri State Tracks. She has done a lot of traveling! She was adopted in December of 2015 so has been in an adoptive home for a year. Stephanie turned 5 on August 25th. She is a friendly girl that passed her cat and small dog tests and has been living with small dogs in her adoptive home. Her family has been calling her Nile for the last year. They are returning her because of a change in their work schedule. Stephanie is a calm, sweet girl. She was a little overwhelmed when she first arrived but quickly gained confidence and ended up being the dominant female in her pack. Stephanie is very outgoing and friendly now like she was when we met her at her race kennel. She is good on leash and very sweet. She is a beautiful dark brindle with cute floppy ears. Her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is USS Wild Times. She would hide in the back of her crate and was really stressed. She is normally a friendly, submissive girl though. Just needs some time to gain her confidence back in a new stressful situation. Schmidty came in from the Boltons in Orlando Florida at the end of September. He raced 46 races at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. Schmidty was adopted shortly after he arrived but was returned quickly because his family had a new baby. They said Schmidty had shown some protectiveness over his space when laying down so they didn't feel that he would be good with the baby in 6 months when it started crawling. His foster home has laid down with him and intentionally gotten in his space and bothered him while he was laying down since he has been back. She can find no hint of any space issues, in fact, after you invade his space and start to move away from him, he tries to get you to come back and snuggle with him. We have him listed as older kids based on what his owners stated even though we have seen none of that behavior. Schmidty is a calm, friendly, extra large boy that raced at 84lbs. He likes to travel and just wants to rest his head on your shoulder to snuggle. His sire is Flying Coal City and his dam is Kentucky Ashley. He turned 3 on September 22nd. Schmidty passed his cat and small dog tests at the track so should be fine to live in a home with either. He is being fostered with cats in his foster home too.

She is mostly quiet and well behaved but does complain a bit about being left alone in a kennel so wouldn't be the best choice for apartment living. She was briefly with an adoptive family as an only dog and didn't seem happy there when she was left alone. We think she needs a family with at least one other dog to hang out with. She does get along very well with other dogs. She is a very sweet loving girl that is so adorable!

Bobo is a very tall, fawn male that just arrived from the Daytona Beach Race Track. He raced 175 races there and at Orange Park. He was a good racer and won a lot of races. Bobo is a larger male that weighs 79lbs. He is a tall narrow guy that is very tall for his weight. His sire is the very famous Flying Penske and his dam is Kiowa Kelly Ann. He turned 4 on March 20th. Bobo is used to being around kids, his trainer has 4 kids and takes them to the kennel with her. Bobo was a favorite of his trainer and followed her around "helping" her in the kennel. He is missed very much and she would love to keep in touch with his new owners. This is a very special boy, whose sweet, devoted personality made him stand out in a kennel with over 100 dogs in it. He will need an extra tall 48 inch crate because his back will touch the top of the regular sized 48 inch crate. Bobo needs some work work walking on leash because he is curious about everything and wants to go check things out. He has a lot of personality and isn't a total couch potato like most greyhounds so will need some exercise in a fenced yard or better yet, daily walks.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Lewellyn Family of Simpsonville SC 1/4/17

Toker is a 66lb red female that came in from the Goodman Kennel in Orlando. She was a very good racer racing at the top A level and winning a lot of her 182 races. Her last race was July 30th. Her trainer's family bought her as a puppy and had her most of her life. They were hoping to be able to keep her as a pet when she retired but that didn't work out. So we were able to get a very very sweet girl to place. She has a wonderful personality and really loves her people. She passed her cat and small dog test with no interest in either. She is living with cats in her foster home and is doing great with them. She is living with kids in her foster home too and seems to really like them - the youngest kid is 8. Her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is USS Opportunity. She turned 4 on April 28th.  Toker does have dry eye so will probably need inexpensive daily eye drops. Toker loves to go for rides in the car. She crates quietly and has adjusted very well to pet life. She has not had a single potty accident in the house, even when her foster family has slept in a bit. She is such a great girl!

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Pollack family of Huntersville NC 1/1/17

Retail is a retired brood mom that had one litter of 4 puppies after a successful racing career of 77 races. She came in with her daughter Issabelle Izzy (Trista) who has already been adopted. Retail raced at Orange Park in Jacksonville FL and Derby Lane. Her sire is DK's Prime Time and her dam is T Dazzle. She is a short girl that weighs 60lbs. She turned 6 on Nov 25th. We placed two of her littermates already, Emo and Set Force. They are wonderful girls so we were excited to get Retail too. She does want to chase cats so can't live with them. She has been fine with two small furry dogs in her foster home and seems like she gets along really well with other dogs. Retail is a sweet girl that loves everyone she meets, especially women. When a woman comes in she will bounce and sometimes give them a hug. Retail is very happy and sweet and her tail wags often. She has the confidence of most mama dogs and not much bothers her. Retail has a gorgeous dark brindle, glossy coat. Really a stunning girl! She can be playful and silly but calms down quickly and turns into the typical lazy greyhound. Retail really does not like being crated but has done fine in her foster home without one and has good house manners. Retail has been in an adoptive home but didn't do well with the toddler in the home after the first month so was returned. Although she normally likes kids, she can be possessive with toys if kids try to take them away from her so she needs a home with no kids now.

Mocha turned 3 on June the 8th. She retired from racing and went back to the farm to be a mom but they decided to send her to adoption instead recently. She is a sweet friendly girl. Beca is a gorgeous, red, girl that just retired from the Palm Beach Race Track. She raced at Derby Lane before moving to Palm Beach. She raced 40 races total and never was really good. She had a minor injury in April and was rested and rehabbed until November when she started running again. After a few races that didn't go too well, they decided to just retire her. Not sure what the injury was because she has no sign of it now. Her sire is Ben Awhile and her dam is KB's Kazoo. She will turn 3 on December 10th. Beca was afraid of the cat and wouldn't go near it during her cat test. If we tried to take her to the cat her legs would start to tremble and she would go the other way. So she would probably be fine in a home with a cat and would not try to chase it. Beca has settled into her foster home very well and is very sweet, friendly and loving. She does have a couple of large scars on her side from one of her littermates playing too rough.

Thunder came in from a farm in Florida. He raced at Orange Park and Sanford Orlando Race tracks in Lester Raines Kennel but retired on September 15th of 2016. He was pretty good for a big guy getting up to A level quickly. He raced 71 races. After he retired he was sent to a farm until an adoption group could take him. Thunder is an extra large guy that raced close to 90lbs. He just turned 3 on November 3rd. His sire is Tyrur Alex and his dam is Dutch Camilla. He is a sweet boy that is very friendly. His whole body wags when he sees someone and he wants to go up to each person he sees for attention. He seems like a great guy with a lot of personality that may excel as a meet and greet dog or even a service dog. He travels well too. Thunder came in for one of our foster homes who had recently had a dog pass away. She wanted another big black boy and fell in love with Thunder right away and is keeping him. Thunder loves to play with balls and is very good at fetch. He gets along well with other dogs and has lived with a variety of other breeds of dogs, large and small.

Now that she is healed up she is being sent to us to place. She raced 85 races and weighs 61lbs. She turned 4 on November 2nd. Her sire is Kelso's Lorenzo and her dam is Adarlyn. Stihl just arrived from the Daytona Race Track. He never actually had an official race there and didn't complete his race training. He just didn't have the desire to chase the lure. He also doesn't have any desire to chase cats or small dogs, so can live with either. His foster home even has chickens and he was only mildly interested in them. He came to us with his littermates Bryant and Benton. Their sire is Abita Simon and his dam is Magic Patti. He is one of the smaller boys we have ever placed at only 63lbs. He is a pretty red boy with some dark sabling on his ears and face. A very handsome boy. Stihl won't turn 2 until April 9th so he is very young. The boys are all friendly and sweet. Stihl needs work on stairs and leash manners because he is young and hasn't been out and about yet much. His trainer said that they didn't put the brothers out with the other males because they would let the other males pick on them and bully them. The brothers were whimpy, so when they went outside, they had their own private family only turn out. We are not trying to place the brothers together because of the number, but if you are looking for two boys that are bonded you could choose two of them. They are all in separate foster homes and we think they will be fine being placed by themselves as well. Stihl's trainer brings her kids to work with her so he is used to being around kids from 5 to teen.

His leg was set and casted at the track kennel and he stayed there until his splint came off. His leg is very good now and his cast is off. He just needs a little more time before being allowed to run around much. His leg should be fine and it shouldn't stop him from playing, going for walks or other normal pet activities. He is a handsome white boy with brindle spots that raced at 74lbs. His sire is Aerial Battle and his dam is KL Elaborate Eva. We placed two other pups from the same mom - different litter named LB's Red Chariot and LB's Busy Work. Edward turned 2 on October 14th. Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Fostered by (location):
Roberts Columbia SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Roberts Family of Columbia SC 12/9/16

Lucky initially came in from the Orlando Race Track. He is a tall, handsome guy with beautiful brindle markings and an unusually dark face. Lucky raced 74 races at Flagler, Naples Ft Myers and the Orlando race tracks. He mainly was competitive at the lower racing levels but won some races. Lucky's sire is Dauntless and his dam is Fuzzys Donna. He raced at 77lbs and is a littermate to a sweet boy we already placed named Fuzzys Cam Neely. He turned 4 years old on June 12th. Lucky travels well and is a very friendly, happy, guy that loves people. He did great with the 11 month old toddler in his first foster home. He was a little curious and tried to sniff the cat when he met it but was met with a slap. After the one cat slap he wouldn't get near the cat again so seems like he will be very respectful in a home with resident cats. Lucky has been in an adoptive home since February but his owner had to move back in with his parents and their dogs so has been forced to rehome Lucky. He lived with another male greyhound for nearly a year. Lucky is a confident guy that is very outgoing and sweet. He can be a little pushy or dominant when playing with other dogs so would need to be placed in a home with another male that was more submissive like his previous greyhound buddy or a female.
