Cat Tolerance:

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Tucker Family of Hickory NC 7/20/24

Fritz came in from Australia. He raced only 8 races and did OK winning one of those and placing in most of the others. His last race was March 8th of 2024. He raced at Wagga, and Healesville. Fritz's DOB is 1/5/22 so he is 2 years old. His sire is Wow and his dam is Gamma Bale. He is a very tiny boy racing at just 62lbs. He is smaller than the girls that he arrived from Australia with. He was completely vetted in Australia before arrival and his ear tattoo is VLXIS. Fritz is a happy, friendly, loyal dog who was born to be a family pet. Despite the fact that Fritz has not spent a lot of time in a domestic household, he is already in training to becoming the perfect pet! Fritz just loves to be around people, joining in on the fun whenever he gets the chance! He is super easy-going and is happy to go along with, and join in on, whatever you’re doing! Fritz is equally as social with children- he just loves kids! The children that Fritz has grown up with are 6, 8 & 10 years old and he is so gentle and sweet with them. He is used to playing with them, getting a wash, and just generally being handled by them; so long as he gets his love and pats, he’s a happy boy! Fritz is super easy-going and is just happy to be doing whatever you’re doing. Fritz has interacted with other dog breeds besides Greyhounds and gets along well with them, but he definitely prefers his human friends (they can give him cuddles and pats!). Fritz has lived with a Blue Heeler and her puppies and got along fine with them all- he was just happy he was never asked to babysit them! Fritz did great with a small Italian Greyhound he met when he arrived. His best friend was a small Dachshund in his foster home - they would play together and sleep cuddled up together. Fritz did not pass his cat test so needs a home with no cats. Overall, Fritz is a little gentleman. He is sweet, affectionate, and easy-going- a perfect companion to have. He is a natural sitter that seems very comfortable in that position unlike most greyhounds. Fritz would thrive in a home with plenty of love going around and he would add to that love ten-fold! If you’re looking for a happy, loving, all-round perfect pet, you’ve found the perfect match in Fritz!

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Johnson, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Alexander Family of N. Augusta SC 7/19/24

Jocko just arrived from a Florida farm. He is a retired racer and raced most of his 51 races at the Caliente Race Track in Mexico. He was a good racer got up to the top A grade there. In July of 2023 he was moved to Wheeling Downs in WV to race. He never won another race there, so was moved to Tri-State Race Track in WV in January of 2024. He raced at the lowest D level there and still didn't win a race, so he was officially retired on July 2nd of 2024. He was transported down to the farm in Florida and we got him from there. Jocko is a dark red boy with a black nose/ He raced at 74lbs so he is a mid sized guy. His sire is WW's Gustava and his dam is WW's Pure Bliss. His DOB is August 14 of 2021 so he is almost 3 years old. Jocko easily passed his small dog and cat tests. He seemed nearly afraid of the cat and didn't want to even sniff it. He rode well on the trip down and would get up and look out the window and after a little while he would lay back down. There was a thunderstorm and he didn't seem to be bothered by it at all. He is friendly, happy and wags his tail a lot. Apparently he has wagged his tail and hit it on things enough that it has caused repeated injury to the tip. Part of his tail has already been removed and what was left was bandaged up when he arrived. When our vet removed the bandage he had an infection in the remaining part of his tail and he had to have more taken off. So now he has a 4-5 inch nub of a tail that can't hit anything, so now he can wag it as much as he wants to. Jocko seems like a sweet guy that was quiet in his kennel and pretty well behaved. A really cute guy. He was vetted at Emerald City Animal Hospital in Greenwood SC.

Vista just arrived from a farm in Florida. She was just transported there from the Tri-State Race Track in WV. She raced only 7 races there and was only able to win one of those, so was retired young. She just turned 2 on June 7th. She is a tiny, fawn girl that raced at just 58lbs but looks even smaller than that. Her sire is Hashtag Dangrite and her dam is Hashtag Xxntexas. Vista traveled well. She stood up and looked out the window some of the trip up from Florida, but laid down after awhile. She is a singer and likes to lead the other dogs in long roos. Vista is just a little shy at first, mainly with men. She was pretty friendly with women and kids and came when called. She seems submissive, coming up pretty low to the ground with her tail wagging cautiously. She seemed submissive with other dogs too, not growling or correcting other dogs even when they were bothering her. She passed her cat and small dog tests easily. She seemed afraid of the cat but was very comfortable with the small white dog she met. She did panic on leash when something scared her and she tried to bolt away. She seems like she is stressed at first in new situations, but she wants attention and should warm up fast. She also seemed to like the small kids she met. Vista was vetted at Emerald City Animal Hospital in Greenwood, SC.

Brandy is arriving soon from Australia. He raced 35 races there but only managed to win one. He raced at Dubbo, Bathurst, and Gunnedah. His last race was November 26th of 2022. He has been living with his owner since then. Brandy is 75lbs and his DOB is Nov. 30 2019. His sire is Brad Hill Billy and his dam is Uniting Cargo. His left ear is tattooed with NIFDR. Here is his description from his owner:

Brandy is already well on his way to becoming the perfect family pet. Underneath his gorgeous exterior, he also has a beautiful, soft-natured personality to match! Brandy is a lovely dog. He is incredibly human social and just loves to make friends whenever he gets the chance! In particular, Brandy loves children. He has lived with young kids ages 5-7 as well as teenagers and was great with them all! Brandy has mostly socialised with other Greyhounds, however he has been introduced to smaller breeds too. He was recently introduced to some Cavoodles, however he was a little anxious of them and avoided them when he could. Surprisingly, Brandy has also interacted with cats and doesn’t worry about them at all. He’s a bit of an enigma but overall, any introductions with cats or dogs should be done gradually and under the recommended guidelines to make sure everyone leaves with their tails wagging! Brandy is a clean and quiet boy in his kennels. You’ll only hear from him if there is someone else around and he wants to make sure you know about it too! He is a lovely calm dog, but he is also quite playful. More than anything, Brandy loves to dip his toes in water whenever he gets the chance. Brandy is a wonderful dog and overall, just a great friend. He is sweet, playful, clean, and calm- you’ll wonder how you ever lived without him!

Fostered by (location):
McManis, Easley SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the McManis Family 6.29.24

Skye was initially adopted from another group as a small puppy. We have been asked to help rehome her due to her owner being unable to physically care for her anymore. Sky has been in a home in NC for nearly nine years. She was born on 3/25/2015. She was from an accidental litter. Her mom is RCK Raven who has her own Facebook Page: Raven's New Adventure. Her sire is RCK Rambo. Since she was from an accidental litter, she never got ear tattoos. Her former mom did a lot of training with her and she earned her AKC Canine Good Citizen when she was just 6 months old. So she knows basic obedience commands and is a very well behaved dog on leash and in public. She was returned with another 5 year old greyhound named Jojo. She has not lived with cats, kids or small dogs, but did great on her testing with all of them. Since she was returned, she has been in a foster home with cats and has done well. She seems to like every human and animal she meets. She is very sweet, friendly and bonds fast. She loves to get up on the couch and sit next to you. She will pat you with her paw to remind you to pet her. She is very calm and laid back. Be sure to look at her other photos to see cute ones of Skye as a puppy. Skye and Jojo were adopted together again a few months ago together, where they lived with a small dog. They were returned again because both girls needed a fenced yard and their owners didn't have one. Both girls are resistant to going potty on leash and like to wander around and find the perfect spot. So a fenced yard is required for Skye.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Kirk Family of Durham NC 6.20.24

JoJo initially came to us as an 8 month old pup straight from a farm in Arkansas. She was the runt of the litter and only weighed 47lbs when we got her. They decided she was too small to race, so sent her to us to place in an adoptive home instead. She actually ended up growing up to be a normal smallish sized female greyhound probably weighing between 55 and 60lbs. Her new family picked out the name Joanna Nadine and called her Jojo since she was never registered and never got a racing name. Jo Jo was with the Chatham family of NC since 3/24/20 and is nearly 5 now.  She was returned to us because her mom had some physical problems and couldn't care for her and her housemate Skye. Even as a puppy, Jojo would approach everything new to sniff, rather than shying away. Now she has blossomed into a wonderfully friendly, happy, girl that is fun and bouncy. Jojo is curious about everything and will be busy checking out everything. She gives kisses freely to new people and is very outgoing. She also gets along well with other dogs, but sometimes gets corrected by other dogs because she is so friendly and can come in a little strong. She did live with a small dog briefly too. She has had mixed results with cats in her foster home. When they run she wants to join in the game and give chase, but doesn't bother the cats the rest of the time. Because she is so playful, she would probably do better in a home with no kitties. Although she is not registered, she does have tattoos. Her right tattoo is 59C but her left tattoo is hard to read 73658. The last 2 numbers are really faint. Her birthday is 5/27/19 and her sire is Superior Panama and her dam is AMF Slammed Shut. Jojo has not lived with kids, but she seemed to like them when introduced. Be sure to look at her other photos to see some cute ones of her as a puppy. Jojo was in another adoptive home for a little over a month, but they didn't have a fenced yard. She was resistant to going potty on leash, even after being walked outside for extended periods. Jojo seems to like to walk around and find the perfect place to go potty on her own. A fenced yard is required for Jojo.

Bones is arriving soon from Australia. He raced 13 races and was actually good, winning 4 races in a row and becoming a finalist in the 2023 National Derby! Bones raced at Nowra, Wentworth Park, and Bulli. He raced his last race April 10th, 2023. Bones raced at 77lbs and is a very tall guy for his weight. His DOB is 1/18/21. His sire is Barcia Bale and his dam is Rockstar Stratus. He was vetted in Australia before arrival and his tattoo is NKAMZ. Bones is a big sweetheart! He is gentle and affectionate and an all-round softy. He is a super easy-going, laid back dog with a big heart. He can be a little shy at first, but once he gets to know you, he’ll have endless love to give! Bones will always lean into any pat you give him. He’s used to having a bit of company (usually another greyhound), so he would need a bit more practice and training before he could be left alone for long periods of time. Bones is however, well on his way to becoming a wonderful pet! He walks well on the lead, comes when he is called and only really gets excited when it’s time for food or to be let outside! Bones is a curious guy; he likes to explore and sniff around to get comfortable in a new environment. Even better, if this new environment has some treats he can munch on too! Bones has been socialised mostly with other greyhounds, but has a bit of experience with a smaller dog too. He got on well with the small dog, after some initial interest. He disengaged quickly and was able to walk along parallel without any issues. He was fine with the small dog he met after he arrived too. He had some initial interest in the cat but was equally curious about everything else in the room and he would walk away. He seems like he could be trainable with cats with some supervision at first. Bones is a fantastic guy with a beautiful temperament and with a bit of love and patience, he’ll quickly become a wonderful life-long companion. If you’re looking for a gentle, sweet dog who is just gorgeous inside and out, look no further than Bones.

Annie just arrived from Australia. She raced 54 races mostly in 2020 and 2021. Her last race was Jan 22 of 2022. She has been living with her racing owner since then. She wasn't a great racer mainly placing and only actually won 4 races. She raced at quite a few tracks: Dubbo, Coonamble, Muswellbrook, Gunnedah, Bathurst, Maitland, Tamworth, and Moree. Annie is 66lbs and her DOB is October 1, 2018. Her sire is the famous Fernando Bale and her dam is Becky Keeping. This is Annie's description from her owner:

Annie is an out and out sweetheart, well on her way to becoming a perfect pet. Despite her lack of experience living the pet lifestyle, Annie is a confident, happy girl who would make a wonderful addition to almost any home. You’ll always spot Annie by her wagging tail, always moving side to side, whether she’s sniffing around a new environment or making a new human friend! Annie is very human social and loves to meet new people. She’ll confidently approach (tail wagging of course!) and look for a little TLC. She will choose to calmly stand next to you for as long as you will pet her. She goes outside just long enough to finish her business, and then wants to come straight back inside. Annie has mostly socialised with other Greyhounds, however she has also been introduced to some small dogs. She got along just fine with the smallies and disengaged easily, overall she didn’t have much interest in them- she prefers human friends who can give her all the love and affection! Annie seems like she may be trainable with cats. She was initially very interested in the first cat she met, but after it slapped her, she backed away and didn't want to engage again. Annie is travels very well, she is cool, very very calm, and collected at all times. She is great on the lead and doesn't pull! Annie crates very well and is quiet in her crate. She has liked the small kids she has met. She is a gorgeous dog inside and out. Annie is confident, friendly, and sweet- what more could you ask for! Don’t hesitate to welcome Annie into your heart and home today.

Her sire is Brad Hill Billy and her dam is Karinya Connie. Her left ear is tattooed NHCTZ. Here is the description from her owner:

Serena is a gorgeous, happy girl who can’t wait to find her forever home. She is a dog who has not had a lot of opportunities to socialise, however you would never be able to tell by how friendly and confident she is! Whether Serena is exploring a new environment or meeting a stranger, she is incredibly, happy, and confident. She loves to have a sniff around, investigating and exploring her surroundings, getting a full picture of what’s going on. Equally, she loves to meet new people (all potential new friends). She’ll come bounding over, tail wagging and tongue lolling ready to be your new best friend for life! Serena has mostly interacted with other Greyhounds, however she has also met with a small dog. The pair got along extremely well and after a sniff and hello, she was happy to disengage and be on her way again- an absolute lady! Serena is a beautiful dog with a loving, friendly energy that is hard to match.  Serena is far too interested in cats to be able to live with them so needs to have a home with no kitties. She has been friendly with the children she has met too. Serena is such a happy, joyful sweet girl! She just can’t wait to find her forever home, so if you think Serena could be the love of your life, don’t hesitate to scoop her up!

His left ear is tattooed with NKEGJ. His sire is Ritza Lenny and his dam is Winlock Ramirez. This is the description from his owner:

Lenny is a happy, social dog and just the life and soul of the party! He is a very active guy who just lives to play, make friends, and just have fun! Lenny is a young guy and still a pup at heart really. He likes to bounce around, getting the lay of the land and making sure he didn’t miss anything that he could have played with! Lenny can be a little strong on the lead, but overall, very good. He is very confident and doesn’t shy away from new experiences; be it meeting new people or exploring new environments! He has no issues with strangers, just a potential new friend to him! He’ll confidently approach with a wagging tail to let you know that he’s looking for some TLC or some playtime! Lenny is equally as good in new environments. He’ll sniff around exploring, holding his own little investigations! Lenny is a wonderful dog and would be a great addition to a lot of homes, however his activity level means that he would be best suited in a home with an active person/people who can take him on adventures and help him get his steps in! Lenny did OK with a small dog he met but initially showed some interest so needs a careful introduction. He definitely needs a home with no kitties, he really is too interested in chasing them. Lenny is a smart guy and knows how to take off his muzzle. He also isn't quite out of the puppy chewing stage. Adoption Status: Adopted by the Mason Family 6/10/24

SPECIAL NEEDS Placement. Phil is located in a foster home with Adoptable Greythounds of Florida in the Tampa Florida area. Because of his special needs, he was returned by his previous owners and has been in foster care for a long time. We offered to try to get the word out to some of our adopters in hopes we can help him find a home that can work with him. This would be an adoption through the group in Florida and not Greyhound Crossroads. Phil needs a dog experienced home, that is willing to work with him. He has severe separation anxiety. Having other dogs around helps Phil some, but it is not 100 percent. He has too high of a prey drive to live with small dogs or cats. Phil would do best in a home with a calm, large, female dog and a family that is home a lot. He does not do well being crated. Phil has shown some resource guarding behavior, with his toys, so he can't be placed in a home with children. As you can see, Phil has a lot of limitations, but we are sure there is a perfect home for him out there. Phil has positives too. He absolutely loves people, leaning on you, going for walks. Dogs like Phil love too much, which cause their separation anxiety. He gets along well with other Greys in social situations.

Phil raced in the US at the Sarasota Race Track and raced just 9 races. He didn't win any of them but managed to come in 3rd a couple of times. He raced his last race on April 30 2019 and was retired then and was in an adoptive home for years until he was returned. Phil is 7 years old, born 1/13/17. He raced at 73lbs. HIs sire is Swahili Eile and his dam is Kiowa Wildbraves.

Thunder came in from Australia. He raced 17 races at Potts Park, Bulli, Temora, Goulburn, Young, Nowra, Warrugul and Sale. He didn't win one of those races, but did come in 2nd a couple of times. In his last race December 2nd, he had some trouble and appears to have had an injury. He has a small spot on one shoulder that looks like an old shoulder muscle injury. It isn't an injury that will affect his life or ability to run. It is a common injury and dogs even race after that type of injury heals. But since he wasn't fast, they decided to just retire him. Thunder's sire is My Redeemer and his dam is Fabrigal. He is a 73lb glossy black guy whose DOB is 9/7/2020. He had his neuter, dental and all shots in Australia before being sent here. He has a tattoo in his left ear VJLPD and he is also microchipped. This is the description from his previous owner:

Thunder is a wonderful dog who was born to be the ultimate laid-back family pet! He is as cool as a cucumber, but super affectionate and social with people and animals alike. Thunder is great with kids and very gentle. He already has experience with children ages 4 and upwards. Thunder is friendly with other animals including small dogs and cats so would be great in a home with other pets. He loves to get his energy out in the morning with a bit of a run around the yard and then lays about for the rest of the day. He would definitely suit a home with workers/school goers who are out of the house for a lot of the day. Thunder would make for a fantastic family pet and would suit almost any home. He is loving and gentle and an all-round sweetheart.

Thunder is everything they said he was, except he has not done well with the cats in his foster home. When they run he just can't resist chasing them so he needs a home with no cats. He absolutely adores the children in his foster home though and loves to lay on the couch and snuggle with them. If you want a snuggly, friendly dog, Thunder is it.

Andy can get a little spooked by unexpected noises according to his racing owner, but once he settles in, he’s a big goofball who loves to be silly and show off! We had some thunderstorms while transporting him and he didn't seem to be worried by them and traveled really well. He’s still a young boy and so he can be playful, but only in short spurts. He would definitely suit a home with an active owner(s) and maybe teenagers/older children to play with. Don’t be worried if you’re someone who is away from home for a lot of the day, Andy is happy to have a bit of activity or playtime in the morning and then chill out for the rest of the day. Andy has lived with working sheep dogs and a Border Collie, but is happy in his own company. He has lived with older female greyhounds, but has been friendly with all the dogs he has met and traveled well with another male and 2 females. Andy is a lovely, loyal and sweet dog with the heart of a puppy. A house would quickly become a home with Andy in it. Andy was fully vetted in Australia and is microchipped. His ear tattoo is VJRNH. So far Andy has been calm and very well behaved since he has arrived, except for when he sees squirrels. Waggy, happy and friendly. He was great with the small, white Italian Greyhound he met. He was very curious about the cat he met and sniffed it and watched it for awhile, then would check out other things in the room. He returned and carefully sniffed the cat again. He didn't try to chase the cat and quickly backed away when the cat hissed or slapped him, then didn't want to get close to the cat again. He may be trainable with cats with some initial supervision. Andy does have one very odd quirk. Since Australia doesn't have squirrels, Andy had never seen one until he arrived. He is so excited to see them, he gets a little nuts. For such a small guy, he can pull very hard to get to a squirrel and it might be pretty hard to walk him through a neighborhood with squirrels. Other than that Andy seems like a sweet nearly perfect little guy.

Gazer just arrived from Australia. He only has two races listed at Grafton and Casino and he placed 7th and 8th. He is a handsome, black male that raced at 71lbs. His DOB is 4/25/21 so is just turning 3 years old. Gazer's sire is Ace Hi Rumble and his dam is Lucille Rumble. He is tattooed in his left ear NKCHX and is microchipped. He was neutered, had his dental and all his shots in Australia before being transported to the US. This is the description we received from his previous owner: This guy is the perfect example of the cruisy greyhound. He likes to play for a little while, but then it is nap time. His favorite pastime is food tasting. Gazer has a great attitude towards life and lives it to the fullest. He is a very happy boy and loves being with his people. He is good with the Italian Greyhound he met. Cats roam the property and although most of the dogs don't interact with them, they can observe them and don't get excited when they do see them. Children interact with regularily (8 and up). Children can lead him around and he will not pull on the lead. Gazer just wants to get in the car and settles quickly and travels well. He is crate trained and is happy to sit in his crate and watch his people while they work.

Gazer has been a great boy since he arrived. He absolutely loves the kids he saw ages 4 to 9. He is so friendly and happy and great on leash. He has been quiet in his crate. Gazer has been living with small dogs in his foster home. He absolutely can not live with cats. He was very focused on the cat and didn't back away even when it slapped him. Gazer does travel very well. What a nice, friendly, happy guy!

Luke just turned 3 on April 12th. He raced at 66lbs so is a smaller guy. His sire is Dyna Villa and his dam is Hurricane Queen. Luke truly is a dog with a paw in each world; energetic and playful but at the same time, polite and laid back! Luke is a well-mannered boy, but he also loves to play and to get his steps in on his daily walks. He would ideally suit a home with a big back yard where he can run around and show off his zoomie skills! Don’t worry, when you’re ready to rest and put the feet up, he’ll be just as happy to lay around with you! Luke just loves the company of his human! Luke has met a variety of different dog breeds and gets on well with all of them including an Italian Greyhound he met after he arrived in the US. He has also met children of a range of ages and is the paw-fect gentleman as always with them! Luke is the ultimate crowd-pleaser, anyone would find something about him to fall in love with almost immediately! He’s a little gentleman who just wants to spend his days with you. Luke has been completely vetted in Australia and is microchipped. His ear tattoo is VKKRB. Luke needs a home with no cats, he failed his cat test and shows way too much interest in cats to be safe.

Snitzel is a cute little black female that just arrived from Australia. She only raced one race at the Capalaba Track, and came in last place, on Aug 6th of 2023. Snitzel is tiny and only weighs 56lbs. She is young and won't turn 3 until December 18th. Her sire is Flying Ricciardo and her dam is Wreath. Snitzel is a gorgeous, happy, bubbly dog just over-flowing with positive energy. She is such a wonderful little lady, and everyone’s best friend! She just adores meeting people, and her tail wags regularly turn into full body wiggles! Snitzel is so full of energy and excitement for every day and every situation. She is a very confident girl and doesn’t let a new environment or a new person faze her (that’s just the potential for a new best friend!). Snitzel is also a big fan of her little-human friends! In her previous home, the neighbourhood children would regularly visit to help handle and socialise the dogs- and Snitzel would of course perform her full body wiggle for them! It's not just humans that Snitzel loves, she is also a big fan of her 4-legged friends! Snitzel likes to play with other medium to large size dogs but is also a big fan of the smaller breeds too. She did great with a tiny Italian greyhound she met when she arrived. She may come on a little strong at first, but Snitzel quickly settles and then has another new best friend under her belt! Snitzel is still quite young and very much still a puppy at heart- she just loves to have fun and fill her day with as much happiness and play as possible! Snitzel is a big fan of the water too and just loves to dip her toes and have a splash around whenever she gets the chance! Snitzel is such a beautiful dog inside and out. You won’t meet a friendlier, happier girl. Snitzel will fall in love with you just as quickly as you fall in love with her so don’t hesitate to take this fun-loving, joyful pup home with you! She was fully vetted in Australia and is microchipped. Her ear tattoo is NKHCR. Snitzel travels really well and just got in the van and laid down. She was great with the other dogs she traveled with an the dogs she met after she arrived. She really is a precious little girl. She was curious about the cat she met at first but just sniffed and lost interest. She checked out more of the house then went back and sniffed the cat again. She seemed happy to meet a new friend.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Livingston Family of N. Augusta 4/27/24

RJ just arrived from Australia where she raced only 11 races. She raced at Dubbo, Wagga, Temora, Broken Hill, Young, and Coonamble. She showed a lot of promise and did win 4 of her early races. She took a break from racing from June 7th to August 15 of 2023. She does have an old toe injury to one of her toes on her back foot and one toe on the same foot had to be amputated so that may be why she took the break from her racing career. When she returned to racing she wasn't as fast and raced her last race September 29th of 2023. RJ is a tiny white girl with brindle spots who just turned 3 on April 1st. She only weighs 57lbs. Her sire is the famous Fernando Bale and her dam is Joyous. RJ was spayed, had a dental and all her shots before she arrived in the US. Her owner sent us this info:

RJ is a sweetheart who was born to be a family pet. She is a soft, quiet, gentle, girl who is an all round dream to handle. She is wonderful to walk on leash and very easy going. She has experience living in a domestic household and can't wait to be in one again. RJ would suit almost any family type; a person living on their own, a couple, family with kids - she is a crowd pleaser! RJ has experience with kids already ages 6 and up and is fantastic with them. RJ is also dog social, having spent extended time in a yard with a Jack Russell. While she gets on well with small dogs, RJ prefers larger breeds such as Labradors or other greyhounds. Unfortunately RJ is not cat social, however that is about her only flaw. She is an incredibly placid, friendly and easy going dog that would be difficult not to fall in love with instantly. She is sweet and gentle and would make a wonderful companion in just about any home.

RJ's description is very accurate. She did not pass her cat test but was great with all the other dogs and kids she met. Very calm and doesn't pull on leash. She crates well and quietly. Really sweet and well mannered.

Ace just arrived from Australia. He is a small brindle male that raced at just 66lbs. His DOB is Nov 3 2020. Ace raced 63 races and he won 11 of those and placed in many others. He raced at a lot of tracks: Wagga, Temora, Richmond, The Gardens, Taree, and Gunnedah. He retired Feb 16th. His sire is Orson Allen and his dam is Broken Talent. Ace was neutered, had a dental and all his shots before he arrived in the US. Here is the the bio his owner sent with him:

Ace is a wonder dog! A beautiful and affectionate boy who was born to be a family pet. Ace is extremely friendly and in particular loves kids ages 6 years and older. Ace just adores the hustle and bustle of a family environment. He will partake in whatever activity is happening and just loves to be involved. More than anything, Ace loves a spa day - getting pampered and having a bath are on top of his list! Ace is also dog social as he has spent some time with Blue Heeler dogs and got on well with them. Ace is a beautiful, funny and up-for-anything kind of dog who would make a wonderful addition to a family home.

We found Ace's description to be right on, except for one thing. He is a friendly, happy guy, who gives kisses and loves people. He definitely has lived in a home and has great house manners. He crated quietly and slept through the night the first night in his foster home. He loves to lay on the bed and loves to go for rides in the car. He is pretty strong and excitable wanting to check out everything and pulls on leash. So it is a good thing that he is a small guy. His description says he is dog social and gets along well with cattle dogs, but we found that he has way too high of a prey drive to live with any other smaller dogs. Medium size dogs were also out. A poodle mix that was nearly his size was also a no for him. He is very excitable around other breeds of dogs and barks and just doesn't seem to like them. He also has way too high of a prey drive to live with cats. He seems like he would do great as an only dog or in a home with another greyhound (or possibly the cattle dogs he is used to). He gets along very well with the two male greyhounds in his foster home. He loves toys, but likes to take the stuffing out. He is definitely a fun guy that seemed to really like the kids he met and everyone else... except dogs and cats.

Kylie just arrived from Alabama. She is a retired racer that raced at Southland until they closed at the end of 2022. She wasn't a great racer and only won one race in her career. She raced 58 races and did place quite a few times. She is a small girl that raced at just 58lbs. She is 4 years old and won't turn 5 until September 3rd. Kylie has been in a home in Alabama since she retired from racing but they asked us for help rehoming her. Her sire is Rico's Vintage and her dam is KL's Ruth. Kylie was vetted at Emerald City Animal Hospital in Greenwood SC on 3/12/24. According to her previous owner, Kylie has a pretty high prey drive so would do best in a home with no cats or small dogs. She did not pay much attention to a small white Italian greyhound however but she may be different with small fluffy dogs that look more like bunnies or squirrels. She is a very friendly girl that wags like crazy, so hard she injured her tail the first day we had her. She loves to lay on couches and will sleep in bed with you. She bonds very fast to whoever she is with. Kylie travels well and will just get up on the seat and lay down for the trip. She is great girl!!

He is retired from show life and his owner asked for our help in finding him a home.  He has been fine with other large dogs that are close to his size, male and female. He plays rough though so his owner does not think he would be good with smaller dogs or cats. He is a very friendly happy guy and wouldn't mean any harm though. Just a very sweet boy.

His owner believes he would do better in a home without other dogs. He is a big boy that plays rough and can be a little pushy sometimes with other dogs. He was placed in a home with a medium sized female dog and got bitten by her when playing, so was returned to his owner. She asked us if we had a suitable family for him and we did. Eli is very friendly with people and great on leash. A really nice big boy and gorgeous.

Clyde retired from the Daytona Race Track with his sister Bonnie in 2015. He only raced 6 races and didn't do well in any of them, so was retired young. Bonnie and Clyde were from a litter of only two pups and were placed in an adoptive home together. Clyde is available again because his family came home to find out that the two littermates had gotten into a fight. No one knows what happened, but they decided to re-home Clyde. They say it was very out of character for him. The two dogs had always gotten along and Clyde is normally a very gentle, happy go lucky, easy going guy according to his previous family. They said he never lifted a lip or growled over anything. Clyde is calm and well behaved and just will lean into you for love. He is a very loving guy. He passed his cat and small dog tests initially and wanted nothing to do with the cat after it hissed and swatted at him. He was introduced to another cat after he was returned and he happily sniffed the cat, then wanted to get love from the people in the room. In foster care he did growl over space when laying down, when other dogs approached occasionally, but that is the only thing we have seen. He has been completely checked over by our vet and got a clean bill of health along with a fresh dental and all shots he needed. He really bonds closely with people and wants to be in the room with you. He has not shown any sign of separation anxiety when his foster mom was at work and just lays on her couch and relaxes. He just gets anxious when someone is home and he can't get to them. He was fostered with an 8 year old child. His sire is Kiowa Mon Manny and his dam is Riverview Sookie. He raced at 76lbs so is a mid sized guy. He just turned 9 on January 17th so qualifies for our senior discount adoption donation of $250.   UPDATE!  Sweet Kamino is still looking for the perfect family to settle into.  He's demonstrated in the last two homes that he sometimes gets overly intense and excited when playing outside or left unsupervised with females in the home.  His perfect family would be one willing to muzzle and/or separate him from other dogs when left completely alone or running, much as many of us do with our own packs to keep everyone safe.  Kamino is a wonderful and loving dog but cares so much about his humans that he really wants to be a part of everything exciting with you.  He's big, lovable, and looking for his final family to live out his happy senior years of retirement.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the McPike Family, 6.12.23

Senior available for adoption with her housemate Gus. Holly initially came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track in February of 2016. She only had 5 schooling races that we could find. She just didn't show any promise as a racer so was retired, without having one official race. Holly will turn 9 on May 21st and has been in her current home since September of 2017. She is being returned due to her older family no longer being able to physically care for their two greyhounds. This is her second return. She was returned once previously after being in a home for about a year, where she lived with 6 cats. Although she never tried to chase cats, after a year she got tired of the six cats in her home walking on her and around her, and started growling at them to make them stay away from her. She should be fine in home with one or two cats that don't walk on dogs. She is very good with small dogs, in fact, when she went to doggy day care she was in with the small dogs rather than the larger dogs. Her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Fuzzys Francie. Holly is a tiny girl, racing at just 56lbs. She is a very outgoing girl that is very waggy and very happy all the time. She can be a bit noisy in her kennel, so probably wouldn't be the best choice for apartment living. Holly was great with the small kids she was around in a previous foster home, but has not been living with kids. Gus is pretty bonded with Holly and stresses when she is gone, so we are looking for a home where they can stay together. Because both dogs are over 8 years old they both qualify for our discounted senior adoption donation of $250. The pictures of them are from when they were 3. Holly will be checked by our vet and will have a fresh dental and all shots updated before adoption.   UPDATE!  See the recently update on Holly's buddy Gus.  Both qualify for Special Needs status with reduced adoption donations!

Senior return available for adoption with his housemate Holly. Gus is an XL boy that initially retired from the Sanford Orlando Race track back in 2017. He was adopted in August of 2017. Now Gus is being returned due to his older family being physically unable to care for him and his housemate Holly anymore. Gus only raced a total of 26 races. He started off running at Palm Beach and raced 5 races there and even won one of them, before falling in his 6th race. He barely ran in his next race and finished so far back he wasn't even in the picture. He was pulled out of racing for nearly 2 months. When he raced again, he finished so far back again that he wasn't even in the picture. So he was off for 3 more months. He finally started racing better for awhile and even won a couple of races. Then he started playing with other dogs while racing, which is strictly against the rules. He was pulled out of racing for a couple more months and moved to another track to see if he would do better. It was finally determined that he just needed to retire in 2017. Gus will turn 9 on June 7th. HIs sire is Gianni and his dam is Estonia. Gus is an extra large, tall narrow, red brindle boy that raced at 83lbs. He is a very, happy, playful guy that loves to go for walks. He is a confident guy that is curious about everything and loves attention. Gus was interested in the cat he was tested with at first and barked at it, but once the cat slapped him, he backed away and didn't want to get close to him again. He may be trainable with a confident cat that will stand his ground. He is was fostered with a small dog and was fine with him. He really liked a toddler and other kids he was introduced to, but doesn't like to be bothered when laying down, so we think he would be best in a home with no children or maybe older kids that understand that some dogs just don't like to be bothered when sleeping or laying down. Gus kennels great in a room with other dogs or people around, but can complain loudly if alone. He is very attached to his housemate Holly and stresses when she is not there, so we would prefer to place the two dogs in a home together. We don't know if Gus has been crated recently, but when he was a foster years ago, his back touched the top of the standard 48" long kennel. We had to either use the extra tall 48" long crate or a 54" long crate that was even higher. Because Gus is over 8 years old he qualifies for our reduced adoption donation of $250. The pictures that are up were taken when he was 3. Gus will be completely checked by our vet and will have a fresh dental and all shots updated before adoption.   UPDATE!  Gus and Holly are ready to go!  They have done very well together moving back into foster care and are loved by their Foster Family.  We plan to keep them together as a bonded pair because that's the best option for this sweet couple.  Both have been vetted, travel well, and are the perfect greyhound family companions.  Both qualify for Special Needs Status with reduced adoption fees!

Special Needs - Must be only dog! Izzy initially was adopted as a greyhound puppy 4 years ago. She never raced because she was stepped on by her mother when tiny. Her leg broke and wasn't able to heal correctly without surgery. Look at her other photos to see pictures of her as a puppy and her X-rays. Pro Greyhound, a group that takes in injured greyhounds, gets them the surgery they need, and rehabilitates them after surgery, got her the surgery she needed. The surgery was successful and she can run and play now. Izzy was adopted in March of 2018 after her leg was healed from the surgery. She is being re-homed now because she hasn't been getting along with the other dogs in her home, and recently had a fight with one of the other female dogs in her home. So Izzy is looking for a home with NO other dogs! She is a sweet, friendly girl that likes people. She probably needs an experienced owner that can do some training. Although she has been living in a home: she doesn't seem like she has had a lot of training. Her sire is Group Rooster and her mom is Rico's Tagnanello (who we also placed). Izzy was born July 7 of 2017. She was tattooed at 3 months with her siblings, but never got a registered racing name because she was adopted as a puppy and never raced.

Joy is a greyhound puppy that was purchased from a puppy mill. Neither her sire nor dam were registered greyhounds and we don't have any information on them because of that. She is about 14 weeks old and appears to be pure greyhound. Her previous owners only kept her a few weeks before asking us to help them re-home her. They had toddlers and Joy was jumping on them, knocking them over and playing too rough with them. Typical large puppy play and nothing aggressive. Joy is very outgoing and happy, she seems very smart and already crates nicely and knows how to sit on command. She still needs some work on walking on leash. Joy loves going for rides in the car. Like all greyhound puppies, she requires a home with a fenced yard to run around in. Greyhound puppies are not suitable for apartment or townhouse living because they NEED to run and play to build strong bones and muscles. Joy is very calm and well behaved for a greyhound puppy, but still is energetic. She would not intentionally hurt children and likes kids a lot, but may be too rough for small kids. Puppies are normally nothing like the calm adult greyhounds that we are used to and need nearly constant manners training and supervision until they become adults between 2 and 3 years old.

Her foster home has decided to keep Joy! They have greyhound puppy experience and their dogs really seem to enjoy having her there.

Big Foot raced 118 races at the Orange Park Race Track in Florida and Dubuque. He retired in January of 2018 and was originally placed by Greyhounds as Pets of NE Florida, the track adoption group at Orange Park. That adoption group closed when the track did, so we place any returns that come in, like Bigfoot. He was was sent to us due to medical issues. He had nearly completely degloved his tail August 25th. Over the last month, the tail didn't heal, became infected, died and started sloughing off. He was in pain and was 9 pounds below his racing weight of 71lbs when we got him. He went straight to our vet for a tail amputation. So now Bigfoot has a short tail and is out of pain. Our vet checked him over, updated his shots and he got a fresh dental at the same time. He appears to be a healthy happy boy now and was so good at the vet's office even though he had to have been in a lot of pain when he arrived. Bigfoot is a friendly guy that loves kids and is good with cats and other dogs of all sizes. He is very quiet in his kennel so may be a good dog for apartment living. Bigfoot was born on June 22, 2014 so is 8 years old and qualifies for our senior discounted adoption donation of $250. HIs sire is Pat C Game Face and his dam is Pat C Blue Honey.

Piper Belle is a 62lb, brindle, female that originally retired from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL in 2017. At that time she was known as Home Girl but her previous family called her Piper Belle. She raced 78 races there and got up to the B level. Her sire is Makeshift and her dam is Nightingale. Piper Belle turned 8 on July 30th and has been in an adoptive home since November of 2017. Her adopter has asked for help re-homing her and her housemate Liam because she is having to move in with an older relative to provide care and can't take the dogs. Piper Belle is a beautiful brindle female with a deep mahogany coat with black striping. She is a sweetheart and loves people and kids. Piper Belle adores attention from everyone. She loves being close and snoozing near you. Piper Belle will come and lean against you quietly. She is intelligent and gentle with occasional bursts of silliness. She loves walks and laying outside on the patio. She gets excited on car rides and loves outings to the park or pet store. Piper Belle has perfect house manners. She will often put herself to bed at night and just disappears to the bedroom when it is her bed time.  Piper Belle was too interested in chasing kitties to be able to live with them, but she did great with small dogs. She has a bright happy personality. Because she is a senior, she qualifies for a reduced adoption fee of $250. We would love to find a home for her and Liam together because they have lived together and are very close.

Liam is one of the tiniest males we have ever seen, smaller than many females at only 60lbs. He is very short and stocky for his weight, so is as short as females in the lower 50lb range. Liam raced 47 races at Palm Beach and Mardi Gras Race Tracks. He won 5 of those races and mainly just placed at the the lower levels so was retired in April of 2017. Liam initially went back to his farm until they found a group that could take him. We got him in November of 2017 and he has been in an adoptive home since December of 2017. Liam will turn 8 on September 29th, so qualifies for our reduced senior adoption fee of $250. Liam's owner has asked us for help re-homing Liam and his housemate Piper Belle because she is having to move in with an older relative to provide care for them and cannot take the dogs. His sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and his dam is Atascocita Sofia.  Liam is good with other dogs large and small, but barks at cats he sees outside, so probably needs a home with no kitties. He was a little overwhelmed and shy when he first arrived and but has a fun, loving personality once he warms up. He loves to be outside as much as possible. He loves racing around the yard and chasing squirrels. He is playful and funny and enjoys emptying his toy box one toy at a time. He enjoys tossing a ball outside. Liam is a snuggler who will curl himself up inside your arms for hugs. He loves car rides, and will curl up and sleep. He enjoys outings, but mainly he loves being in his own yard. He has perfect house manners. Liam is not comfortable around little kids - he tends to go to his crate or quiet place if kids come to visit. He is very quiet indoors and laid back. He responds to "Wait" and a whistle to come inside. We would love to place Liam and Piper Belle together since they are bonded and haven't really been separated since 2017.

Swiper originally retired in July of 2015 from the Orlando race track, where she raced 73 races. She raced at a bunch of other tracks Mardi Gras and Palm Beach, Flagler, Naples-Ft. Myers and Derby Lane. Swiper just turned 10 on August 5th and weighs 60lbs. Her sire is NMS Sweet Thing and her dam is Voo Doo von Bonz. Swiper has been in an adoptive home since September of 2015. We were asked to help her find another home because her family had a baby. Swiper was very good with the baby and they slept together on the bed. As the baby became a toddler and got more mobile it started bothering Swiper. Her family say it is definitely the toddler in this case and not the dog. The toddler just doesn't understand that she can't do mean things to the dog and won't leave her alone even with constant supervision. They want Swiper to have a home where she can relax and be comfortable without a small child bothering her. Swiper was used to being around her trainer's older kids at the racing kennel and liked them. So she might be fine with older kids. She was afraid of the cats she met and just wanted to stay away from them so she could be integrated into a home with cats. She did fine with the small dog she met.Swiper is calm and friendly and quiet in her crate. Swiper is a great girl that is very well behaved. She was pretty stressed and took a couple days to come out of her shell and eat when she first arrived in foster care. Because she is a senior, Swiper qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. She has been checked by our vet and has a clean bill of health. She is up to date on all shots and had a fresh dental.

Zorro is a dog that one of our volunteers was waiting on to retire. He was a good racer that was racing at Southland, which is the top track in the country. He got up to the top AA level and ran in a Stakes race there, so he was truly one of the fastest greyhounds in the US. He broke his hock in his last race on November 18th of 2020. He was taken to an orthopedic specialist by his owner and it was determined that the break would heal best with splinting and didn't require surgery. He was sent to one of our foster homes that specializes in rehabbing injuries. He was there until his leg completely healed and our vets released him in March of 2021 for adoption. The Pruitt family that had been waiting on him to retire was able to adopt him at that time. Zorro is described by his trainer as a gentle giant. He raced at a whopping 88lbs so is an extra large tall guy. He is good on leash and very gentle and calm in spite of his size. His sire is the famous Bella Infrared and his dam is Fly Miley Cyrus. Zorro turned 4 on October 7th. He passed his small dog tests easily and liked the children he met. His foster dad said he would fall asleep during his splint changes and was a super easy guy to work with. Zorro lived in his first home from March of 2021 until mid 2022. He lived with two small Yorkies and loved them. Unfortunately Zorro's mom was ill and passed away in mid 2022. Her family reached out to us to re-home Zorro. One of our other volunteers and foster homes had recently lost two dogs to cancer and ask to adopt him. Zorro has settled in well. He seems like he misses his mom and his Yorkie buddies because he has show some signs of having separation anxiety when his new dad leaves him alone.

Piper is a brindle boy that never raced and is coming to us straight from a farm in Florida. He will turn 3 on August 19th. He never raced because he has dry eyes that are constantly irritated. He doesn't produce tears for some reason, so will have to have drops to lubricate his eyes for the rest of his life - usually 2-3 times per day. His potential adopter has experience with eye issues with his current greyhound and already has a greyhound opthomologist. Piper's sire is Nashapelli and his dam is Sidlinger. He was exceptionally good at our vet when he got his eyes examined. He is very friendly and sweet.

SENIOR! Lori just came to us from the Roban Farm, in Florida, where she has been living since she retired from racing in Feb of 2014. She was an amazing racer and raced 133 races at the top levels at Ebro and Sarasota tracks in Florida. She is the 2011 Ebro Mega Morris Juvenile Stake winner and was the 2013 Ebro Inaugural Champion. She is famous! She was retired to the farm to become a mom and had a total of 22 pups in 4 litters. Her last litter was in 2018 and she has been living on the farm as a pet since then. Because of the end of racing in Florida her owners have been forced to cut back on the number of dogs on the farm. They made the tough decision to let us place Lori. They only have 7 dogs left on the farm as pets now. Lori is an incredibly energetic busy girl. She is curious about everything and acts more like a 2 year old than a dog that turned 11 on February 22nd. You would never guess she is a senior. She is incredibly strong and gets excited to sniff everything at first when on leash. She does calm down and walks better after a few minutes. Her sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and her dam is Good Charlotte. Lori raced at 65lbs. Lori passed her small dog test and cat test. She was very curious at first like she is with everything else but calmed down quickly and went on to sniffing everything else. She seemed to like the small kids she met. She is a very friendly sweet girl that is going to make a great pet. Because she is a senior she qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. Lori was vetted at Emerald City Animal Hospital

He fell in a couple of races and quit one race so just wasn't cut out for it. Zeke is a small, 66lb, black, shiny boy that has a crooked tail from an old break. He is friendly and waggy. He passed his cat and small dog tests easily with no interest in chasing either. He loves other dogs and wants to snuggle up to them, no space issues here! Very sweet boy! He also liked the children he met. He travels well and just jumped in a van and laid down for the trip. He is a happy boy and seemed pretty calm even when younger. Sip will turn 7 September 17th. He has been in a home since December of 2017 but is being returned to us due to a divorce. He limps when he is on hard surfaces due to corns on his feet. His sire is Pat C Clement and his dam is WW Consumes.  He was vetted with Dr Ng in Columbia SC.

Finlay originally raced at Derby Lane in Florida. He was not a good racer and only won one race in his career of 34 races. He usually finished toward the back of the pack. He retired in February of 2013. He was placed by another adoption group, For The Hounds. He has been in that home until now. Finlay has been returned to us due to a financial situation and his owners will miss him. He was very loved. He lived with children in his previous home and was good with them. He also lived with a medium sized dog. There was some confusion about Finlay's identity. His owners thought his racing name was Foolish Times, but when we contacted the National Greyhound Association that registers all greyhounds, they told us that Foolish Times is a female, and that the dog we had was most likely a male littermate named Time To Deal. His tattoos are pretty faded and difficult to read. His sire is Dustin the Way and his dam is SE's Revenge. Finlay is a sweet older guy that turned 11 on January 19th. He has corns on his feet and limps because of them. Especially on hard surfaces. He has done better since we hulled his corns and trimmed his nails. He would do best in a home with lots of carpet due to his corns. Other than the corns, the vet that examined him felt he was healthy. Because he is a senior, Finlay qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Moore family of Athens, GA, 4.11.2022

Aria was initially placed by the Birmingham Track Adoption Group in early 2016 as a young puppy, just after she was tattooed at 3 months old. Her ear tattoos are 115B and 67724. Although she was tattooed she was never completed the registration process and didn't receive a registered racing name. Her littermates were racers and we ended up placing two of them: NPZ Imperial Lee and KMZ Banshee. Her sire is the famous Trent Lee and her dam is Dancin Inmiami. She was born on November 2nd of 2015. She was the runt of the litter and only weighed 49lbs at her last vet checkup. Her first owners renamed her Karma. That adoptive family decided to return her to the Birmingham Track Adoption Group when she was 10 months old. Her first family thought she would do better with someone with more greyhound experience and they wanted to get a boxer puppy instead. Karma was transported to our group from Birmingham and was adopted 8/28/16 when she was 10 months old by a dog trainer that had had other greyhounds. She was renamed Saber. Unfortunately Saber's owner died in 2020. Right after her owner passed away, Saber got out and got hit by a car. She suffered a broken leg. Her previous owner's family had it fixed and kept her until now. The break is long healed, but still causes her some pain and probably always will. She does limp and is on a low dose of inexpensive doggy pain meds, that she will need to continue to take. Her previous owner taught her a range of obedience commands. She was a Therapy Dog that went on regular visits to hospitals and nursing homes, so is an exceptionally very friendly, well trained and well behaved dog. She has been fine with the small Italian greyhound she met and she was required to be good with other dogs on her Therapy Dog visits. She does want to chase cats so needs a home without them. Saber has developed a corn on her back right foot that will require regular maintenance down the road. It also contributes to her limping. She got a dental and updated vetting at Emerald City Animal Hospital and saw an orthopedic specialist to be sure that there was nothing more that could be done for her previous broken leg when we got her. She is up to date on everything and ready to go home.

Vic just arrived from the Running To Stand Still dog farm in Florida. He has been there since he retired from racing in August. Vic raced 62 races at Derby Lane in Florida. He got up to A level and raced in some stakes races too so he was pretty good. He retired due to a reoccurring injury. He has no sign of any injury now so it shouldn't be anything that will affect him as a pet. Vic is a pretty boy that is almost all white except for a few small brindle spots and some red freckles in his fur. He raced at 75lbs but has put on 5lbs since he retired and is now 80lbs. Vic turned 3 on March 15th. His sire is the famous Barcelona Boss and his dam is PTL Que. Vic is friendly with a happy wagging tail. He is very quiet in his kennel so may do well in an apartment or townhouse. He is very food motivated so might be great for someone that wanted to do trick or obedience training. Vic was gently curious about the cat and did a lot of sniffing, but eventually wandered off to check out other things. When the cat had enough of the sniffing and growled and hissed at him, he backed off right away and wouldn't get near the cat again. He seemed like he may have had a run in with an angry cat before. He was also good with a small white dog in his first foster home. Vic seems like a very sweet guy that will make a great first or 5th greyhound.

Paisley raced her entire career in maiden - the lowest level of racing for dogs that have never won a race. They must win one maiden race to start climbing the different levels of racing and Paisley just couldn't do it before racing ended. Paisley raced at 58lbs and just turned 2 on January 16th. Her sire is Quick Reply and her dam is Gogo Ontario. Paisley passed her cat test easily with no interest at all. She is being fostered with cats and is doing great with them. Her foster home got her hoping that she would do good with their other pets and planned to keep her if all went well so she will be staying. Be sure to check out Paisley's other photos. Jessie James came to us as a return. He was initially adopted through Greyhounds As Pets Of North East Florida. They were the track adoption group for the Orange Park Race Track that has closed and the adoption group has also closed. We were asked to re-home him because he attacked another greyhound in his home when it fell and screamed. He is a higher prey drive greyhound and a screaming, thrashing dog can sometimes set that prey drive off. Before that happened Jessie James had lived with other large dogs in his home and had never shown any aggression towards any dog or human. He was just the opposite - sweet and snuggly. Very friendly and silly. While we don't feel this was true aggression, we think he would do best to be placed as an only dog just to err on the side of caution. Although he likes children, because of the incident with the other dog, we would prefer to place him in a home with no kids. He also needs a home with no kitties. Jessie James was born 12/18/16 so he is five and a half years old. His sire is Gable Sour Cream and his dam is BM Murphy. He is a cute brindle male. More as we get to know him.

She never ended up actually having pups though and was sent to us in January of 2016 to be a pet. Her sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and her dam is PR's Maddy Rae. Greta is a tiny girl that raced at just 54lbs. She will celebrate her 12th birthday on November 16th so qualifies for our reduced senior adoption fee of $250. Greta was adopted by one of our volunteers after her arrival back in January of 2016. Unfortunately they have been forced to give up their beloved dogs. Her owners are experiencing severe health issues that keep them from being able to care for pets anymore. Greta is a real lover that seeks out attention and follows her family around when she is not dozing on a dog bed. She loves the kids she has met. She is very friendly and happy. Greta came into her home like she had always been there. She was a little interested in cats at first but became very good with cats and chose to avoid them. She was too interested in small dogs that were bouncing or running around, so her initial foster home thought she would do better in a home without small dogs but she has been around small dogs successfully over the years since. Greta is gentle, loving and loves to snuggle. She has no trouble with stairs and easily navigates all types of flooring. She crates well and loves to go for rides in the car.

Some Special Needs Please Read Description! Sammy is a red, male, greyhound that initially came in from a greyhound farm in Abilene Kansas. He just wasn't interested in racing or chasing a lure, so he stayed on the farm until he had an adoption group to take him. He never went to the race track. He was not even 2 years old when we first placed him in 2016. He turned 7 on May 15th. He is a small to mid sized boy that is around 68lbs, but does not have an official racing weight since he never raced. His sire is Last Outlaw and his dam is WW Fast Star. He is a pretty red male that is very friendly and loves everyone he meets.  Sammy passed his cat and small dog tests easily when he arrived. Although he hasn't really been around cats since, he is very good with other dogs of all sizes and breeds. He loves to play and run with any dog that will play with him. He even lives with Parrots! Although he has not lived with kids, his current owner feels like he would probably be good with them, because he is so easy going and loves everyone so much. Sammy is being returned to us because of some health issues his owner is having, she is just not able to care for him at this time. She says he is a great dog. He never has accidents in the house and never has been one to get into anything. He doesn't need a crate because he is completely trustworthy, even unsupervised, and always has been. He has been living as an only dog in his home, so would be fine in that situation. Sammy does have some quirks. He has never learned to be comfortable on slippery floors in his home, even after 5 years. He has just alerted his owner when he needs to go somewhere and she has pulled him on a dog bed to where he wants to go. He needs a home that is mostly carpeted. He also needs a one story home because he is very uncomfortable on stairs. He just had 5 stairs to go outside to go potty at his former home. He would go down them, but then would dance around and was too scared to come back up them without help. He never got over that living in the same home for 5 years. Sammy is mostly a homebody and on walks he will sometimes just stop and turn into a statue, not wanting to walk any farther. He won't jump into a car and needs to be helped in. Many, if not most greyhounds come to us with similar quirks and usually quickly get over their fears with some encouragement and training. Sammy lived with a dog trainer and she wasn't able to get him past his fears, so we just want to find a home that he can be comfortable in from the start. If you have a mostly carpeted, one story home, without too many stairs to access your yard, you could be the family for Sammy. He also needs a family that is OK with a dog that is a homebody and doesn't like to go for long walks. Although Sammy is fearful of a few odd things, he is not fearful with people and is a very happy, loving, boy that is very very good and never gets into any trouble. Sammy is doing well in his foster home so far. He will be checked over by our vet in Columbia and get his vaccinations, heartworm test, fecal and a fresh dental and be ready to go home on February 2nd.

Road Runner initially came in from the Sanford Orlando Race track in Summer of 2017. He is an XL red male that never actually had an official race. He just didn't do well enough in race schooling. He weighs 88lbs and is a big, happy, bouncy guy that has a wonderful, outgoing personality. Road Runner turned 6 on October 1st. He has been in an adoptive home since October of 2017, but they have one toddler and another baby on the way and just don't have time to spend with him. Road Runner's sire is Dyna Nalin and his dam is Time Release and yes he does have a brother named Wile E Coyote. This cute guy passed his cat and small dog test easily. When the cat ran, he did show some interest, but wouldn't actually get near the cat even then. He appeared to already understand that cats have claws. He lived with small Italian Greyhounds in his foster home and loves them. He tries to get them to play with him. He likes toddlers and babies and everyone he has met. He is a very joyful guy and everything makes him happy. He would be an excellent dog for someone that wants a very social dog they can take anywhere. He loves other dogs and tries to get everyone he meets to play with him by offering a play bow. Road Runner is definitely going to be a fun guy for a lucky family. He travels very well. Even as a young dog he was pretty calm and well behaved. His foster home loves having him as a guest because of his happy, silly personality. Road Runner was returned to us earlier, after being in an adoptive home for just over a month, again a return that was not due to anything he did.

Faolan came from a farm in Kansas. He is a very young boy that one of our volunteers won the right to name in a fund raiser and the first dibs on adoption after retirement. He injured his toe as a puppy so never made it to the track and our volunteer decided to adopt him. Faolan is a high energy, happy pup that was born on 3/29/20. His sire is the famous Seldom Told and his dam is JW Beethoven. More as we get to know him.

Dutch had a few schooling races at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville. He was so far behind the other dogs that he wasn't even in the video at the finish of his first 3 schooling races. He had 3 more schooling races and wasn't able to win one, so was retired in April of 2019. He was placed in an adoptive home by the track adoption group there with a female greyhound named Zoe. Now that family has grown and they are having a difficult time keeping up with 2 large dogs in addition to small kids. The adoption group at the Orange Park track disbanded after the track there closed in 2020. They gave us permission to help the owners re-home Dutch and his housemate, Zoe.  Dutch is a brindle male, DOB:  04-06-2017 that is 4.5 years old. His previous owner describes him as an “Old Soul,” very gentle, affectionate, a true couch potato. Dutch is pretty sensitive to his environment and loves routine.  He dislikes being crated, having his nails clipped and does not handle non-carpeted floors well - and may freeze on slippery floors. The noise of the outside street sweeper scares him too. Dutch rides well in the car, but takes longer to lay down than Zoe. He is excellent on leash and does not pull. He does well with children and does well with other dogs at the dog park. He still needs to be tested with cats because he hasn't been around them in his adoptive home. He is described as “super-sweet,” but isn't the most confident guy. He does love his toys though.

Dutch has been adopted and is now being called Moose.

Squirt just arrived from the Roban Farm in Florida. He was born there and has lived there all his life. He had a nerve injury to his front leg when he was a pup that prevented him from racing. He was tattooed at 3 months with the rest of his litter, but never completed the registration process normally done after a year old. So he never got an official racing name. He has been called Squirt his entire life. He has been kept as a pet on the farm, but they have stopped raising dogs there due to the end of racing in Florida. They were unable to keep all their pets when they lost their income. His former owner had a hard time parting with Squirt and he had a hard time parting with her. He is a happy guy that loves to play ball and loves to play in the hose. He has a significant permanent limp on his front leg that has been examined by our vet. It is nerve damage and lack of feeling in the leg that causes it and she doesn't believe he is in any pain. He can still run very fast, mainly on 3 legs, and it doesn't stop him from chasing a ball. He does need a little help getting in and out of a vehicle because of that foot not having much feeling. He doesn't seem to be able to tell when it is on the ground or if it is right side up or knuckled under. He does use the front leg for balance when standing and walking slowly. It has been part of his life since he was a puppy, he has no idea there is any problem and rarely lets it slow him down. In his photos, Squirt has a little bit of redness from where his muzzle rubbed his nose on the trip up from the farm. That is completely gone now and the hair has grown back. Squirt is very loving and gives kisses and follows his people around. A very good boy that seems like he will be a pretty low key, easy guy. He can be a little sensitive and nervous just at first, since he has limited experience with life off the farm. He does travel well and just lays down. His sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and his dam is Taylor May Duffy. He was born on August 2, 2016 so just turned 5. Squirt is a small male that weighed just 62lbs at his vet appointment but could stand to gain a few pounds. He was vetted at Emerald City Vet hospital. Squirt has lived with cats and is very good with other dogs of all sizes. He is food motivated and eats very well. Although he initially will stop at at the entrance to a new crate, once he is in the crate, he settles and lays down and crates well. Squirt was in an adoptive home for a month and was having potty training issues there. He was fine before and once back in foster care and so far has had no accidents in his foster's home. He may just need some supervision and some guidance as all dogs do when moved to a new space until he learns where to go.
