2020 Adoptions
Presley just arrived from Orange Park Race Track. He was with the Greyhounds As Pets of NE Florida track adoption group and was vetted there before coming to us. He raced 118 races but wasn't a great racer. He mainly just placed at the lower D level of racing and only actually won 2 races in his career. The comment on one of his two wins was "Shocks The World" so he was well known as a dog that never won. Since he placed frequently, he was still able to have a pretty long career without actually winning. Presley is a red male that raced at 72lbs. He passed his cat test so should be fine to live with cats and small dogs. Presley was sired by GS Anthony and his dam is GS Addison. More as we get to know him. |

Homare just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course adoption kennel with her sister Carli Cool. Homare didn't actually race there but was sent there from the Palm Beach Race track when it closed. She only has a schooling race listed at Palm Beach and no official races. It looks like she raced a few races in Iowa before that but finished toward the back of the pack. Homare is a tiny little thing that raced at just 50lbs. She won't turn 2 until September 3rd. Homare's sire is Cheeky Monkey and her dam is Cool Valley. Homare lost interest in the cat after a few sniffs and was polite and well behaved with the small dog she met so should be fine to live with either. She seemed overwhelmed and very calm when she first arrived but has gotten more active and puppyish after a few days. She has been mostly quiet in her kennel but did a little barking at first. So far she hasn't been eating very good, probably due to the stress of everything new. She is a sweet girl that seems like she likes people and other dogs. |

Catalpa's litter were all named for types of trees with the Superior prefix. She initially came in from the Melbourne Race track 2.5 years ago and has been in an adoptive home since then. Cate also raced some of her 56 races at Derby Lane, Sanford Orlando and Mardi Gras tracks in Florida. She only won 4 races, so was moved around in hopes her owners could find a track that she would be competitive at, but that wasn't to be the case. In her last race she wasn't paying attention and missed the break out of the box. She still managed to come in 6th, but they decided to retire her. Cate raced at 62lbs and is light fawn female that turned 5 on June 27th. She has been in an adoptive home for 2.5 years. Her owner has health issues and is unable to care for Cate, so asked us to help re-home her. Her sire is Shonn and her dam is Superior Tingler. Catalpa is a very friendly girl that was hard to get pictures of because she would run right over for an extreme closeup as soon as she saw anyone come in. She really likes people and is a very happy, outgoing girl. Catalpa passed her cat and small dog tests and has been living with 2 cats and another dog in her adoptive home. She has been living with small children as well and really likes children. The only problem they reported was that they had to put her up in a crate when the kids were eating because Cate would try to steal the food and would growl if anyone tried to take the food away. She also didn't like anyone trying to take her dog food when she was eating. Even though she really likes small kids we think she would do best in a home with older kids that weren't likely to drop food and understood to leave her alone when she is eating. Cate is fine doing a few steps but has never had to do long flights of steps and really isn't comfortable with a lot of stairs. She is fine walking on shiny wood floors. Cate never gets up on the furniture. She is quiet in her crate so could be an apartment dog, if it was a ground floor apartment. She also potties well on leash and walks on leash well, so doesn't need a fenced yard if her new owners were willing to leash walk her to potty. Cate is afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks. Her owner sent her with her things: a large crate, bed, and collar and leash. Cate is already home acclimated, is up to date on her vetting and is ready to go home. |

Emery just arrived from the Celtic Hounds Kennel. She was in the last load from the now closed Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced her whole career of 76 races there except for one race at Dubuque. She raced mainly at the lower C level but did get up as far as B a couple of times. Emery raced at 61lbs and turned 3 on Feb 1st. Her sire is Barcelona Boss and her dam is XKT Minnie Beets. Emery is a happy outgoing girl. Emery was very interested in the cat and excited by fast movements, but she did back off when the cat hissed and smacked her. She would probably be best in a home with no cats, although she may be cat trainable in a very experienced home with a confident cat. She did not like being alone in the kennel and cried a lot after the other dogs left, so may do best in a home with another dog to hang out with. She has been really good with some of the small dogs in her foster home but there is one that she has been wanting to play with. She may do better with medium sized dogs and larger that would be OK to play with a dog her size, since a really small toy-sized dog may get hurt accidentally. Emery is used to being around her trainers children at the race track so should be fine with kids. |

Pistol just arrived from the Roban Farm in Florida. She is young and never raced. She got tattoos at 3 months old Litter number 73074 and right ear 118E but never completed the registration process and got a registered racing name. She has been called Pistol though. Pistol will turn 2 in November. She has been a little overwhelmed by everything new since this is her first time leaving the farm. Her owner says she is normally very outgoing and with a little time to warm up will be the star of the show and is likely to be almost annoyingly friendly. Pistol is very used to being around small dogs, cats and other animals on the farm she was raised on. She has been completely comfortable with the cats and small dogs she has been around since she arrived too. She has been very quiet in her kennel and kennels well, so may be a good apartment or townhouse dog. Pistol's sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and her dam is Cahillusmarshall. We have placed lots of dogs from her Sire and one half brother that had the same mom named FF Ironman. Pistol has warmed up very fast and is very sweet and outgoing. She is very waggy and wags not just her tail but her whole body. She was vetted at Oasis Animal Hospital in Mauldin SC. |

Darby never raced and was obtained by his previous pet owner from a Kansas Farm. Darby was tattooed but never was registered to race so doesn't have a racing name. He was called Billy at the farm. His Tattoos are Right ear 88H and his left ear is 72728 He was adopted at around a year old and has been called Darby since then. He has been living with his owner in Florida for about a year now. His owner passed away recently and we were called to help Darby find a new home. Darby seems to be doing well in spite of losing his owner. He is a happy, sweet guy that is very young and still has a lot of silly, playful puppy in him. He will turn 2 on August 19th. His sire is AMF Sleekstrangr and his dam is AMF Bad Habit. He passed his cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. |

Port just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course adoption kennel. He didn't actually race there but was sent there to be placed with an adoption group since they transport dogs to groups all over the country. Port also raced a few of his 87 races at Tri State in WV. He wasn't a good racer mostly racing at the lower C and D levels and rarely winning but he placed enough to keep his career going. Port's litter were all named for different types of wine. He raced at 78lbs so is a larger guy. He will turn 4 December 16th. His sire is Rico's Vintage and his dam is Flying Navy Seal. Port is a very happy friendly guy who isn't phased or concerned about anything. When he first arrived he was very excitable about everything but he calmed down quickly and is doing well in foster care. He is not trying to mark in the house so far and is doing great on his potty training. He is a very strong guy that needs work on walking nicely on leash, he does pull and wants to check out everything. He passed his cat and small dog test. He was very curious about the cat and spent a lot of time sniffing it but was just as excited about everything else in the room. He didn't try to chase the cat. He should be OK with cats with some initial supervision. He seemed to like the other dogs he met and definitely loves people. Port takes a long time to go potty on leash. He prefers to potty off leash and trots around looking for that perfect spot. For that reason we think he would do best in a home with a fenced yard. |

Spicer came from the Mobile Al race track where he raced 107 races. He raced at Southland in Arkansas, then at Palm Beach and Orange Park in Florida and finally moved to Mobile. He is 4 years old and celebrated his 4th birthday on June 1st. He raced at 71lbs so is a mid sized guy. His sire is Deerfield Site and his dam is Bob's Streak. Spicer is doing fantastic in his foster home. He is good with small dogs he has met. He loves to play with toys and squeaky toys are his favorite. He is a happy loving guy. Update! Unfortunately Spicer's mom Passed recently and his family will be sending him back to GC for another home. This sweet older fella is safe with cats, small dogs, and children- all he needs is the perfect match for the rest of his retirement. Because of his age he will be adopted on the reduced Special Needs rate. Let's find him a second family who will cherish his senior years with as much affection and care as his beloved Mom showered on him. (Note, the photo shown here was his original adoption listing. We'll get it replaced ASAP) |

Bemo just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He raced 24 races there and only won 2 of those races. Most of the time he finished 7th or 8th. We also placed a littermate of his Sur La Mer recently. Bemo is a tiny male that raced at just 64lbs. He will turn 3 on October 18. His sire is the famous Hi Noon Hero and his dam is Herecomestippy. Bemo is a friendly happy guy whose owner said he was the most outgoing and social of his entire litter. He is pretty calm for a 2 year old though. He is always bouncy, waggy and happy to see you, but calms down pretty fast. He eats well and always finishes his food and seems pretty food motivated if someone wanted to do trick training or obedience with him. He can be loud at first in his kennel so probably won't be a good apartment or townhouse dog. He does quiet down fast though and has always slept quietly through the night. He can be a bit of a marker so will need to be supervised closely at first. This tiny guy has a lot of personality and has the tendency toward being a bit dramatic, yelping if he even thinks something may hurt him. Fun boy that is going to make an excellent pet. |

Dee Dee is coming in from a farm in Arkansas. She has been retired from racing since November of 2018. She went back to her owner to be a mom. She had a litter of 7 puppies last year and had another single puppy a few months ago. She wanted nothing to do with her last puppy and refused to nurse him. Since she wasn't thrilled with being a mom, her owner decided to retire her from Mom duties. Dee Dee is a very special girl that has been living as a pet for a little over a year while she raised her pups. She has been living with small Italian Greyhounds at the farm and is good with them. She is a friendly girl that has a great personality. Dee Dee is a confident girl and being a mom is likely to boss other dogs around a bit. She raced at Melbourne and Derby Lane tracks. She was pretty good getting up to A level and even competing in a Stakes race. She raced 56 races but stumbled in her last race and broke her leg ending her career. Her leg is completely healed, but didn't heal up perfectly, so she still limps on it some. It doesn't slow her down though. She can run and play and go up and down stairs just fine. Dee Dee raced at 62lbs and is still pretty young. She won't turn 5 until September 2nd. Her sire is the famous Pat C Clement and her dam is Backwood Robin. Dee Dee was vetted by her owners in Arkansas before they sent her to us. She is home acclimated already and has been a pet while she was being a mom for a couple of years. The family she was living with while she had her pups would love to keep in contact with her new owners. They miss her. Be sure to look at her other pictures to see her with her cute pup. |

Hometown just arrived from the Birmingham Race Track Closing. He also raced about half of his 88 races at Orange Park in FL. He was pretty good racing most of his races in Birmingham at the top A level. He lost interest in racing back in October and was finishing at the back of the pack. He had several months off and started racing again in February. His break hadn't made him more excited about chasing the lure. He continued to come in at the back of the pack and Fell in one of his races and then stopped and never finished his last race on February 12th. He has been at the track adoption kennel since then, having to wait to be sent out to an adoption group due to the Covid Quarantine. Hometown is a big brindle male that raced at 77lbs. He will turn 4 on September 4th. His sire is Golden Squire and his dam is Wire to Wire. More as we get to know him. |

She did fine with the kids she met. She met cats and small dogs and seems to be trainable with supervision at first. |

Fly Blaze Black isn't black and he doesn't have a blaze either (White stripe on face). The litter was named for his mom Flying Blazing and each has a unique name that starts with a B after that Black, Bet, Blade, Blake, Bluff, and Blur. Their sire is the famous Barcelona Boss. Blaze will turn 3 on October 19th so he is still pretty young. He was retired from racing due to the Birmingham Track closing down. He also raced about half of his 40 races at Tri State in WV. He wasn't a great racer and only managed to win 3 of his races. Blaze is a friendly guy that seems to like everyone he meets. He happily greeted the small dog he met and wagged his tail and sniffed the cats and seemed to do his best to make friends. He liked the small kids he met briefly too. He raced at 71lbs. He is a strong guy that pulls some on the leash because he is curious about everything and wants to go say Hi to everyone he sees. He is doing better with his foster family on walks already and just pulls at first when he is excited. Blaze's tail wags happily most of the time. He loves to chase balls and loves to run and play in his foster's yard. He was whiny at first but is quieting down now but still may not be a good apartment dog. More as we get to know him. |

He was a good racer getting up to A level and winning there so he was moved to Southland in Arkansas to compete. He didn't do as well there and quickly dropped down to the lowest level and was retired. His last race was March 11th. He was sent to Birmingham to be placed in their excellent adoption program that sends dogs out to adoption groups all over the country. Spice's sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is WW's Vibrant. Spice if a very friendly guy that loves people. He is a big red male that raced at 77lbs. Spice will turn 4 on September 23rd. He was too interested in the cat to be able to live with kitties. He was fine with the small dog he met though. He seemed to like the kids he met too. Spice does pull when on leash so will need some more training to walk without pulling because he is a big strong guy. He is a happy guy that is curious about things and just wants to check everything out and he wants to go meet the people he sees. |

Indy came in from the Orange Park Race Track due to a broken leg. He was quite the racers quickly moving up to the top A level and even competing in a few Stakes races. He raced 50 races and raced his last race March 8th at A level. Races were stopped because of Covid 19 but the dogs still had to run unofficial schooling races to maintain their fitness and he injured his leg in one of the practice runs. He had surgery in Jacksonville before we got him. He is having his splint changes and rehab with us. It usually takes 6 to 12 weeks for a break to heal so he should be ready for adoption sometime in June. He is a sweet guy that falls asleep during splint changes. He is a really good boy that is pretty laid back and friendly. Indy will turn 3 on November 3rd. His sire is Lenson Sanchez and his dam is WW's Federation. More as we get to know him. NOTE-- because of his status with a rehabbed break, we do NOT require potential adopters to be on the waiting list. He is available to previous GC adopters or anyone with an already-approved application to adopt. |

Shock just arrived from the Birmingham Track Adoption Kennel. She didn't actually race there, but was sent there to be placed with one of the adoption groups they send dogs to after the Palm Beach Race Track shut down suddenly. Her last race was May 9th. Shock had a very long career of 186 races, all at Palm Beach and most at the top A level. She even was good enough to be chosen to race in a couple of big Stakes races reserved for the best racers at the track. Shock raced at 66lbs and is a tall narrow girl that is taller than some of the smaller boys. She is gorgeous with long legs and a tiny waist and ears that stand straight up. Shock will turn 5 on August 8th. Her sire is SE's Jet Fuel and her dam is JS Grand Prix. She passed her cat test with some initial interest but when the cat slapped her she wouldn't go near it again. She was great with the small dog she met. She liked the kids she met too. Shock is excellent on leash and seems to be a pretty calm girl that made a little noise the first day in her kennel, but has been pretty quiet since then. She seems like a calm, well behaved girl that is pretty friendly. She seems like a sensitive girl that responds well to the slightest correction. She did great in her kennel on the ride to and from the vet and just laid down quietly. She fussed about the other dogs stepping on her when she was transported out of the crate with a couple of other females. |

Amy came from the Sanford Orlando Race Track closing. She has been fostered by her racing owner in NC since, so has already been home acclimated for awhile. Amy raced 38 races and also raced briefly at the Palm Beach Race track. She wasn't very good only winning a few times at the lowest D level. Amy raced at 66lbs. She won't turn 3 until Nov 25th. Her sire is the famous Gable Sour Cream and her dam is Flying Unrest. Amy LOVES people and attention. She also loves other dogs and wants to cuddle with other dogs on their beds. She has no sense of personal space and wants to be as close as possible to snuggle. She likes to be with her humans and is quiet during the day just hanging out where she can see people. She is learning to play fetch and loves running around in the yard with her housemates. She goes in her crate willingly to eat her meals and likes to lay in her crate with the door open. She does make noise in the crate when the door is closed, so would not be a good apartment dog. She does well with her potty training during the day, but does still have accidents if left out of the crate all night, so needs some more work. Her owner thinks she may do best in a home with other dogs since she loves being around them and playing with them so much. Although Amy is friendly towards kids she meets and seems to like them, we need to place Amy in a home with no kids. She snapped at a child over a bowl of cereal after being placed with a young kid in her first home. So now she is looking for another home with no small kids. Amy's foster home says she is their favorite foster and she is just perfectly behaved. They would keep her if they could. |

Luna is coming to us from the track adoption kennel in Jacksonville Florida. She was returned to them by her family through no fault of her own. They have a 3 year old child and a 7 month old baby and just found out they are expecting a third child. They didn't feel like they had enough time to devote to Luna anymore and wanted her to have a family that can give her the time and attention she deserves. Luna initially raced just 20 races at Derby Lane in Florida. She retired in January of 2015 and was initially placed by GPA Tampa Bay. She has been in her home since then. Eddie is a sweet guy, but is a bit nervous and overwhelmed so far with all the changes going from racing to be a pet. He seemed too stressed to have any interest in the cat or the small dog and didn't seem to even notice they were there. His track trainer says he is not a shy boy and should come around fast. Just needs a little time to adjust to everything new. |

Bowsta was turned over to a Columbia Animal Shelter by his former family. All we know is that he was called Bowsta and that this family had him since he was very young. We checked his tattoos, which were hard to read, but it looks like he is most likely Craigie Bowie. Bowsta raced just 2 races at the Palm Beach Race Track and looks like he was adopted from there, because he does have a microchip linking him to that area. He retired from there August 3rd of 2009 so probably has been in a home since before he was 2 years old. He was born on Nov 1st of 2007 so will turn 13 on November 1st of this year. Because Bowsta is a senior he qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. His sire is the famous Trent Lee and his dam is Craigie Bouquet. Bowsta is thin for a greyhound so needs to put on a few lbs. He has a very furry coat that looks like he may have lived outside recently. Bowsta is neutered already. His teeth look pretty good for his age but will have a fresh cleaning and will have any bad teeth removed before placement. He will be up to date on all shots and have bloodwork done to be sure he is healthy. More as we get to know him. |

She will turn 2 on August 9th. Bohemia is 60lbs. She is a sweet girl that was actually a little afraid of the small dog and cat. He started out racing at Palm Beach, then was moved to Naples Ft Myers then to Dubuque. Belfry is fast and has a lot of early speed. He got up to A level but would intentionally bump other dogs during the race and interfere with them occasionally which is not allowed. So in spite of being fast, he was retired. He is very calm and laid back for a 2 year old. Very sweet guy that is great on leash. He passed his cat test with just some curious, careful sniffing. King just arrived from the Birmingham Alabama Race Course closing. We were waiting on him to arrive before the track closed because he is the suspected sire of a recent litter of puppies that we raised. King does look a lot like some of the litter. We were very excited to meet him. He raced a total of 46 races and also raced briefly at Orange Park and Daytona Beach in Florida but only was able to win one race. When he didn't win races at those tracks he was moved to Birmingham in January and met a cute girl on the haul and a few months later, on March 4th he became the dad of 6 pups. He did win some races before the track closed and had gotten up to B level. His sire is Defrim Bale and his dam is PJ Just A Dream. King was a kennel favorite of his trainer. She said he was absolutely the best boy. He was a grinner that would smile and follow her around. He was very devoted to her but she said he did take a few days to warm up and could be just a little timid at first. He has been friendly and happy since we got him though, so much so that his foster home decided to keep him after he had only been at their house for a couple of hours. King is raced at 76lbs and will turn 3 on July 25th. More as we get to know him. |

Pointer is arriving soon from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. The track closed suddenly due to the Corona Virus. She also raced at Naples Ft Myers in Florida, Southland in Arkansas, and Birmingham AL. Pointer raced 91 races. She was pretty good getting up to the top A level at Birmingham and Orlando. Pointer is a fawn female with a black face that raced at 63lbs. She will turn 4 on December 6th. Her sire is the famous DJays Octane and her dam is Runningshoeson. She passed her cat test at the track so should be fine to live with cats or small dogs. More as we get to know her. |

Tic Toc is arriving soon from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. The track closed suddenly due to the Corona Virus. Tic Toc was just starting out her career and had only raced 18 races. She just won 2 of those. She is a young girl that won't turn 2 until July 16th. She is brindle and raced at 64lbs. Her sire is SE Tali Sundance. Her mom is also up for adoption currently, AMF Ex Hunter. Tic Toc passed her cat test at the track so should be fine to live with cats or small dogs. Since her mom has the eye condition pannus, that can be hereditary, it is possible that Tic Toc will need daily eye drops to prevent her from losing her sight. Our vets will check her when she arrives for any sign of the eye condition. More as we get to know her. |

Dove just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race Track. She didn't actually race there though. She raced at Blanchard Kennel at Tri State in WV, at the Dubuque Track and very briefly at Southland in Arkansas. She only had 38 races total but did win a few of those and got up to B level once. She raced her last race on March 12th in WV and actually won that one. Dove will turn 3 on July 3rd and raced at 67lbs. She is very outgoing and happy and goes straight up to new people. She does try to jump up on people so needs some work on that. Dove passed her cat test without much interest after some initial sniffing. She liked the kids she met. Dove's sire is Crown and Crest and her dam is Arkans Bd Sky. Very sweet beautiful girl. |

Beef Taco just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course where he raced all his 94 races. He was a good racer racing most of his races at the top A level. He retired from the top A level July 2nd after pulling a muscle. He has completely recovered now and has no sign of any pain or injury now. Beef Taco's entire litter was named for types of tacos: Fish, Soft, Hard etc. They were born June 12th of 2015 so just turned 3. Beef Taco's sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Flying Animals. He raced at 67lbs so is a smaller male. Beef Taco is a very friendly guy whose tail wags a lot. Very happy, outgoing and sweet. Taco has had mixed results with cats passing a couple of cat tests but was not able to resist a running cat in an adoptive home even with a couple of weeks of work. So Taco needs a home with no cats. Taco is usually quiet in his kennel and has lived in a townhouse. He has done great as an only dog too. He is good on leash and potties well on leash so doesn't require a fenced yard. Taco has been in a foster home with a 15lb Italian greyhound and has done well with him after a short adjustment time so he may do fine with dogs that size and up. Update! Taco is available once again for adoption through no fault of his own. His owners have made the difficult decision to return him to GC in search of his next family match. We'll update his information as soon as we can. |

Direx just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Group. He never actually raced in Birmingham and was just sent to them to place from the Southland Race Track in Arkansas. He also raced at Valley Race Track, Mardi Gras, and Dubuque. He raced 128 races and was a very good racer getting up to A level and even racing in Stakes races. Southland is probably the most competitive track in the country so you have to be good to race there and one of the faster dogs in the country to win there. Direx is truly a star. He raced 128 races. He raced at 74lbs so is a mid sized male. He just turned 5 on May 3rd. His sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is Slatex Selene. Direx is very sweet and very outgoing. He wags lot. He passed his cat test with some initial curiosity but as soon as the cat swatted him he backed right up and wanted nothing more to do with it. He learned stairs quickly and seems to be settling in well. Already relaxed and laying on his back with his feet up in the air which is what we call a roach and something that only comfortable relaxed dogs do. |

Dart just arrived from the Roban farm in Florida where she was being trained to race. She is really young and won't even turn 2 until November 27th. She was never officially registered and never got a registered name. She was tattooed at 3 months of age though Right ear is 118F and left ear is 73158. She went to race training but flunked that because she is exceptionally shy, what we call a spook. Spooks are usually genetically shy, anxious dogs that are afraid of everything new, much like a person with severe social anxiety. Dart has three littermates that are not as shy, that are registered to race Mergen For Prez, RTSS Cherub Rock and RTSS Zamboni Man. We just placed a half sister by the same mom named She'sLikeNoOther and she is a very friendly social girl. Dart's sire is Superior Panama and her dam is PJ Hardnottolike. Dart is exceptionally fearful of everything new. She loves her crate and feels safe there and doesn't want to come out even for potty breaks. Eventually she will slowly come out, but then she will try to bolt away from the person holding the leash. She is being leash walked to potty by her foster mom inside her fenced backyard because she is too fearful to be caught. If her foster mom moves fast or steps on a twig Dart bolts and she tries to stay as far away from her as she can while on leash. Dart is a dog that will warm up with time to her people in her home but it isn't uncommon for a dog like this to take a year to get comfortable or longer. Dart must have a securely fenced yard because of the danger of her bolting when on leash and getting away. She is going to be a long term project though and isn't going to just become a happy, social dog in a week or two or even a month or two. Dart is never likely to enjoy going into unfamiliar environments outside her home and will always be a homebody. Dart will need a quiet home that doesn't have many visitors and one without small loud kids. Visitors and loud kids (and their toys and friends) would be terrifying to a dog like her. Dart likes other dogs and really would do best in a home with at least one other confident, friendly dog to follow around. A buddy usually helps spooky dogs be more comfortable. Dart may never be a social butterfly that will happily greet you at the door but the spooks can be very rewarding when you do finally gain their trust. Dart needs a forever home that will accept her as she is and not expect her to change. We want a family that is in it for the long haul, that will work with her no matter what and is committed to keeping a dog forever. Being returned and having to start over with a new family would be too difficult for Dart. |

Willow is one of a litter of pups that was born after we got a pregnant female from the Birmingham race track. Mom's name is She'sLikeNoOther (Beauty). We are not sure how she got knocked up but they think it happened when she was moved from a track in Florida to Birmingham in January and they think the dad was Apology Excepted because he was her traveling companion. We got her in February when she started showing. She had 6 healthy pups on March 4th. Willow was the 3rd pup born and weighed 12.5 ounces when she was born and 12 lbs 5 oz at 8 weeks old. All the pups are friendly and social and were raised using the Puppy Culture Protocol. They all know to sit for food and treats and are trained to use a litterbox. Most of them will also potty on leash. The pups have been around kids and toddlers since birth so are very used to children. They also lived with a small dogs and have been introduced to cats. All the pups were introduced to a variety of people of different ages and sizes and have been well socialized to people and things they may come in contact with in the home environment. Greyhound puppies are not like the calm adult greyhounds we love. They are very high energy when young and need large fenced yards to run and play in to build strong bones and muscles. They need complete supervision like a toddler because everything goes in their mouth and gets chewed or eaten. They can be very destructive if their energy isn't drained through play and acceptable forms of exercise. Greyhound puppies are like any other puppy when small, but they quickly grow to full size and may weigh 50 to 80lbs by 8 months old. At that age they can run around 40 mph but are still huge clumsy pups. Greyhound puppies bite and play very rough. They require a lot of training and need experienced homes with room to run. |

Bully just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He also raced at Sanford Orlando and Birmingham briefly. Bully got up to the top A level at Birmingham quickly. He was moved to Orange Park and also raced at A level there. He won his last race on March 15th, but was retired when the track shut down due to Covid 19. Bully has been at the track adoption kennel since then and they had him vetted there on 5/6/20. Bully will turn 3 on August 18th. He raced at 68lbs. Bully is a sweet friendly guy that is not a bully at all. He is cuddly, a leaner and a face kisser. He is comfortable in his crate and walks pretty well on leash. He has seen larger and smaller dogs on walks and is only mildly curious about both but his foster home feels he would do better in a home with no small dogs. He passed his cat test at the track and was OK with cats at first, but got more interested as he got more relaxed in his home, so his foster family feels he needs a home with no cats. Bully approaches new people he sees and is very friendly. He is a fast learner and is adapting quickly to home life. He is young but seems pretty laid back for his age and is content to lay around on dog beds. Bully had a racing injury in May of 2019. He didn't race again until September of 2019. He won several races in a row when he came back so was completely healed up. However he may have a little arthritis in his leg from that old injury because he occasionally favors it now. He raced at total of 36 races. Super nice, sweet guy that his foster feels would make a great first greyhound. He has had no accidents in the house and is adapting very well to pet life. |

Camp is coming to us from Tabbatha Couch in Arkansas. She was a good racer that ran 51 races at Wheeling Downs. She went straight up to the top AA level there. She retired from racing after an injury in December of 2015. Camp went back to the farm to become a mom. She had a litter of 5 puppies in 2017 that are racers already. There is probably at least one more litter of pups that is not yet registered. Camp is a beautiful light fawn female with a thick fluffy coat. She is a good eater that is on the chubby side. She was free fed as much as she wanted at the farm so could stand to lose a few lbs. Her sire is the famous Flying Coal City and her dam is KB's Whisper Run. Camp will turn 7 on June 30th. Right before she left the farm Camp cut herself on some fencing and had to have stitches. She is completely healed up now but has a patch of hair that is growing back now. Camp is a calm sweet girl that seems happy and content with life. She loves to run around in the yard and roll around in the grass everyday so a fenced yard is a must for her. She is calm and friendly with kids of all sizes but she does have some sleep startle so needs a home with kids old enough to understand not to touch her when she is sleeping. She has been quiet since arriving and only barks sometimes when playing outside.

SPECIAL NEEDS! Hunter came to us from Mick Hymes Farm in Arkansas. We were told she was completely blind before we got her. When we got her, we were pleased to find out that she still had some sight according to an eye specialist. And the best news was that it is just pannus where blood vessels and tissue start to grow across the eye blocking vision. Daily drops in her eyes will stop that and will improve her vision and even reverse it and we can see improvement after just one day. We are thrilled that Hunter is going to have her sight back!! She is likely to need to continue the drops in her eyes for the rest of her life. Hunter was a good racer and was retired to become a mom. She was a good mom and raised her last litter of puppies after she was pretty blind with no problems. She has a total of 16 puppies in 2 litters that are registered so far, but there is another more recent litter still being registered. Hunter raced at 64lbs. She just turned 6 on March 22nd. Her sire is AMF Ex President and her dam is Gable Redneck. Hunter settled right into foster care with no problem. She is very sweet and loving and her cute curly tail wags all the time. Hunter was vetted at Oasis Animal Hospital in Mauldin. Although Hunter can't see very well and doesn't have many teeth, when she sees the cats move in her foster home, she does try to chase them, so she really needs a home with no cats. |

Mady just arrived from the Waverider Kennel at the Daytona Beach Race Track that just closed. She raced her entire career of 92 races there. She mainly raced at the lower levels but did get up to B level. Even though she didn't win many races she was a favorite of her trainer. Mady raced at 60lbs and turned 3 on December 4th. Her sire is the famous Odd Grayson and her dam is Husker Zhivany. Mady was curious about the cat and lost interest after thoroughly checking him out. Mady is a rare greyhound guard dog... her trainer would say Mady Mady Guard Dog and she would start barking. She would then come up for a gentle hug after she feels like she has protected you. Her trainer says she is a little girl but might actually protect you if she felt like she needed to. Mady loves dog beds and has already figured out the hardwood and tile floors and the stairs. Mady was vetted in at Clinton Animal Hospital. Update! As Mady has settled in, she's shown us that it's important she live with another greyhound companion in order to be happy. She knows Greyhounds are the best and would rather stick with her own kind! When she becomes stressed, Mady can be grumpy and defensive of her space. She's going to need just the right home with experienced owners who understand and work with her accordingly in a situation without small children, or non-greyhounds. Although she was fine with the very calm cat in her first foster home, she will need to be evaluated again with more active cats before we could call her tolerant. Mady is currently undergoing evaluation and observation- if you feel lead to help this special girl who has so much promise ahead of her, let us know! |

Amy Jo is coming in from Mick Hymes Farm in Arkansas. She raced 56 races at Palm Beach before she retired in August of 2018. She was good, getting up to the top A level and competing in a Stakes race. She went back to the farm to be a mom but has no puppies listed so may not have ever been bred or her pups may just be too young to be registered. Either way she is retiring from mom duties now due to tracks closing. She will turn 5 on April 12th. She is a tiny girl that raced at just 56lbs. Her sire is the famous Flying Coal City and her dam is Karen Adams. Amy Jo is getting used to her foster home and is doing great so far. She has mastered the wood floor and stairs. She loves her crate and sleeps quietly all night. She is a sweet girl that will be a great addition to any family. She has the softest fur! Amy Jo was vetted at Oasis Animal Hospital in Mauldin. |

Gunslinger, now Tiger, is a red brindle male that came to us from the track initially before he was even two. He is being returned to us by the family that adopted him in March of 2014. His family renamed him Tiger. He ran 10 races at Birmingham Alabama Race Course before being retired. Tiger raced at 69lbs and is a tall handsome guy. His sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and his dam is CTW Cowgirl Up. Tiger was pretty calm and well behaved even when he was a young guy and is even calmer now. He is friendly and sweet and very outgoing with everyone he meets. He is very tolerant with other dogs and let a larger dog just lay right on him without complaint. He passed his cat test easily. He is being returned because he growled and air snapped at a visiting child that climbed on him while he was laying down. He chose not to actually be aggressive and bite. A growl or an air snap is the only way a dog can say it wants to be left alone. His family has moved close to relatives with small kids and plans to have their own as well in the future, so decided to re-home Tiger. Tiger will turn 8 on June 1st. These photos are from 2014. He still looks very much the same and is at a good weight and looks very healthy, just a little whiter in the face. He will have a fresh dental and health check and has already been brought up to date on his shots by his family. He is a very outgoing and sweet and appeared to be a very tolerant dog that didn't have space issues when placed initially. Any dog can become grumpy about their space when laying down or sleeping especially if kids get on them. That old saying "Let a sleeping dog lie" applies to most dogs. This is a sweet guy that loves people and comes already trained. He is very quiet in his crate so may be a great apartment dog. |

Missy came in initially from the Birmingham Race Course. She only raced one of her 49 races there though. She traveled around to quite a few tracks. Missy started out at Dubuque in IA, then went to Wheeling Downs in WV, Gulf in TX and Orange Park in FL then finally Birmingham AL. She did get up to A level once at Orange Park but just wasn't a really good racer. She moved around a lot looking for a place where she would be competitive. Missy turned 4 on November 28th and raced at 65lbs. Her sire is the famous KC and All and her dam is WW's Whiteclover. She was called Minnie at the track but has since been renamed Missy by her first family. She is a pretty timid girl that will need time to warm up. Missy seems to be little more shy with men than kids and females. She was initially fostered with a calm 8 year old child. Most timid dogs are terrified around very loud fast moving small kids, so she probably needs a home with quiet older kids or no kids. Missy travels well. She is excellent on leash and goes potty on leash walks, so may do OK without a fenced yard. Missy went to her first home in October of 2018. That family was elderly and both fell and had to go to the hospital and were not able to care for a dog anymore so asked us to find her a new home. She was placed in 2019 and was just returned from that home because she was too shy. She passed her cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. Missy did great in an earlier foster home with several small dogs. Missy doesn't interact at all on the first meeting, so any potential families need to understand that. She was very well behaved in her foster home. She is just a shy girl that is not a social butterfly and needs an owner that will be understanding of that and give her the time she needs to warm up and not expect her to change dramatically. |

Sheboy, the girl with the funny name, was named after another famous dog owned by the same kennel that was the same color. The original Sheboy raced in 1985 and was an amazing racer. Sheboy is a pretty big tall girl that was actually mistaken for a boy by our volunteers when she first arrived. Sheboy just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course adoption kennel. She didn't actually race there but was sent there from the Southland Tracj in Arkansas to be placed as a pet with another adoption group. Sheboy was a good racer to be competitive enough for Southland, the most competitive track in the country. She also raced at Orange Park in Florida and raced at the top A level and even competed in Stakes races reserved for the best racers at that track. She raced 83 races and weighed in at 67lbs. Her sire is the famous Djays Octane and her dam is Shanett. Sheboy is just a little timid at first. She is an amazing girl though. She came right in and walked over shiny floors like she had done them her whole life. She just got into her crate and laid down on the trip up and never made a peep. She got in a car and road on the backseat the same way like she had done it all her life. She is very good with kids and is used to being around the kids of her trainer at the track and farm. She paid absolutely no attention to the cat or small dog moving around her and seemed like she was already used to being around both too. She turns 4 on August 11th. More as we get to know her. |

Booboo just arrived from Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park in Jacksonville. She is a tiny girl that weighed just 55lbs. She never raced due to an uneven gait caused by short muscles in her hind end. She was checked out by our vet and it looks like that was just the way she was born and not anything that needs to be fixed. She can run and play normally and just moves differently. She is a little overwhelmed and unsure about her recent move from racing kennel to home. She is most comfortable in her crate but is slowly getting brave enough to lay down out of it with other dogs. She is pretty shy at first, but her foster home is seeing more tail wags and happy behavior each day as she gets more comfortable. Booboo passed her cat test without any interest at all and laid down when she met the small dog so she should be fine to live with either. Booboo is a littermate to Scotty that arrived at the same time. Her sire is Atascocita Bowl and her dam is Miss Kay. She just turned 2 on April 8th. She was vetted at Clinton Animal Hospital. More as we get to know her. |

Hokey Pokey just arrived from the Roban Farm in Florida. She raced a total of 28 races at Ebro and at Derby Lane, but got bumped in the backstretch on Feb 1st. Hokey Pokey had sore muscles and went back to the farm to heal up and rehab. After she healed up, she went back to racing on the training track on the farm. She continued to have some soreness after races so they decided to retire her. She seems fine to run and play normally as a pet, but just wouldn't be a good candidate for lure coursing, agility or other performance events. Hokey Pokey raced at 62lbs. She turned 2 on February 16th. Her sire is AJN Chris Bosh and her dam is Flying Champagne. She was a little overwhelmed the first day she arrived but by the second day she was zooming around the yard and going up to everyone for attention. Her trainer says that she would do great in just about any home. She is a friendly, sweet, happy girl. She passed her cat and small dog tests with just some curious sniffing so should be able to live with either. She was vetted at Clinton Animal Hospital. |

Emma just arrived from the Daytona Beach Race Tracks sudden closing. She raced an incredible 233 races and was an incredible racer. She is the current track record holder for the 660 length with a time of 36.72 back in 2017. No dog has been able to beat that time since then and no one ever will, now that the track is closed. So she is famous and we are thrilled to be able to place her! She started out her career at Palm Beach but raced nearly all of her races at Daytona. Emma is little, racing at just 58lbs. She will turn 6 on October 14th. Her sire is Aerial Battle and her dam is KL Elaborate Eva. We placed her littermate LB's Ghost Chili and also LB's Red Chariot and LB's Busy Work both from the same mom. Emma was a little overwhelmed and timid when she first arrived but it only took her a couple of days to relax and get comfortable. Now her foster home describes her as one of the most loving and sweet dogs that they have fostered. She will make an awesome pet for a lucky family. Food Court probably needs to have a home without cats. She is being fostered with tiny dogs and has gotten used to seeing them running around in the house, but she still gets overly excited about seeing small dogs running around outside and tiny dogs she doesn't know. Food Court is a confident girl that is used to being treated like a superstar. Like any Diva she can be bossy over her space, and doesn't like sharing food or beds with other dogs, so may do better as an only dog where she can be the center of attention. She loves attention and absolutely loves everyone she meets. Even though she likes kids and has shown no grumpiness about space or food toward people, because she is that way with other dogs we would prefer to place her in a home with no small kids. |
