Special Needs Heart Problems! Bones came in from the Daytona Beach Track Closing. He raced at the Waverider Kennel there. He raced 94 races there, and did race a couple at Orange Park early on too. He wasn't real good and only won a few at the lower levels of racing. He just turned 3 on Feb 1st and raced at 73lbs. His sire is the famous Barcelona Boss and his dam is B's Elite Wendy. Bones passed his initial cat test with some sniffing and then lost interest but was too interested in cats when meeting them later so at this point he probably would do better in a home with no cats. He is a friendly guy that has a wonderful personality. Bones seems smart and picks up things fast. When he came in he excitedly pulled on leash checking everything out. After just a little coaching he started walking nicely on leash. Although Bones was used to being around and handled by the 5 kids of his trainer at the track, he did not like the kids in his first home so is back looking for a home with no kids. When Bones arrived our vets noticed that he had a significant heart murmur, enlarged heart and an irregular heart beat. He has been seen by a specialist at Upstate Specialists and does have what looks like genetic heart problems that are likely to continue to get worse and shorten his life. It is amazing that he was able to race and that his heart held up to that strenuous activity. We are starting him on a medication that will slow his progression into Congestive Heart Failure. Once he gets into Congestive heart failure he will have 8 to 10 months. We do not know how long he will have with the medication. Bones is just the sweetest guy and loves adults. He is still goofy, playful and fun and everyone that has met him has fallen in love with him. Our vet suggested limiting playtime to 10 minutes and no lure chasing or really strenuous play. Bones is a special guy that deserves a very special home for whatever time he has left.  NOTE!  Because of his status as Special Needs, interested adopters do not have to be on the waiting list and his adoption fee is reduced to help his new family.

Bones lived nearly 2 more years with his heart problems. He crossed the bridge on August 9 2022. He was a wonderful guy and will be missed.
