August is a beautiful red girl that just arrived from Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She also raced at Dubuque and Mardi Gras race tracks. She retired after racing 69 times because she had a sore shoulder. August got bumped in a race back in November and hurt her shoulder. Her trainer took her out of racing for several months, waited for her shoulder to heal, and got her back into racing condition. He tried racing her again in March and she actually won a race and placed a couple of times and stayed racing until May. Her shoulder was a little sore after races though, so the decision was made to retired her. August is not limping now and doesn't seem to be bothered by her shoulder. Our vet looked at it and thinks she will be fine as a pet, but shouldn't do agility or coursing or other performance dog events. Our vet said she may have a little arthritis in her shoulder as she ages. There is a slight chance she could need surgery, in the future, if she re-injures her shoulder and makes it worse. August's litter was given racing names of large stores. She got Costco and yes there is a Sam's, Best Buy, K Mart and Target too. August just turned 3 on May 20th. Her sire is the famous BD's Grayson and her dam is Flying Kinney. August passed her cat and small dog tests without any interest in either. She also liked the kids she met. August is a very friendly girl that doesn't seem to meet a stranger. She likes other dogs and people she meets and seems like a happy waggy girl. She travels well and jumps right up into an SUV or backseat on command and settles right down for the trip. August was vetted in Clinton SC and is ready to go home. |

Shocker is a beautiful black female that just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park Track in Jacksonville. She also raced briefly at Southland in Arkansas and Wheeling in West Virginia without any luck. She raced 71 races but only won 5 races. She mainly placed at the lower C and D levels and wasn't very competitive. Shocker raced at 67lbs and just turned 3 on March 4th. She is young but is going prematurely gray in the face. Shocker is very outgoing and sweet. She gives kisses and loves her foster mom and the kids in her foster home. She is fine with their small dogs but still needs tested with cats. Shocker's sire is TMC's Remedy and her dam is Trip Home. |

Dan is a gentle giant giant racing at 82lbs. He is very tall and narrow and his back is nearly hip high. He raced at Flagler, Naples Ft Myers, Sarasota, Ebro and Southland. He was good, winning at A level at Sarasota and Ebro. After Dan retired he was sent to the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Group to be sent out to one of the adoption groups they deliver dogs to and we got him from there. Dan just turned 3 on January 16th. His sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Flying Devlin. He is a sweet outgoing guy that just wants to be close to you. Dan will lean against you for greyhound hugs. He didn't seem to be stressed by traveling but likes to stand up and see where he was going. He seems like he has an easy going personality and isn't stressed by much. He was fine with the white 15lb Italian greyhound he was introduced to and a black fuzzy dog so should be fine to live with them. He has the softest fuzzy coat and is very furry for a greyhound. He is doing great on his potty training and seems to be a big teddy bear of a boy. Dan was adopted and in a home for about a month. Initially he was fine with the 3.5 year old child in the home, but gradually he started to get annoyed with him and didn't like him stepping over him and moving around him when he was laying down. So even though he really likes kids, in smaller doses, we think he would prefer to live in a home that doesn't have small kids. |

Freeze just arrived from the Blanchard kennel in Orange Park FL. He raced most recently at their other kennel in Wheeling WV though. He raced 27 races and got up to B level so was pretty good. He took a tumble in his last race back in September of 2018 and never returned to racing after that. Freeze is a pretty calm mellow guy. He's settled in with no housebreaking accidents or counter surfing, and crates quietly as long as he has another dog with him. When totally alone he does show some distress, so will do better in a home with at least one other dog for company. Freeze does love to run around outside but only does a few laps in the yard. He passed his small dogs test easily and seemed to like the kids he was introduced to. He has not been cat tested yet. His sire is KC and All and his dam is DK's Leapinlizzy. He will turn 3 on June 20th. Freeze raced at 71lbs. |

Kaleb just arrived from the Daytona Beach RaceTrack in Florida. He is a 75lb red brindle male with a black nose that turned 2 on February 9th. Â Although his is pretty young he started early and has already raced 70 races at Derby Lane and Daytona Beach. He wasn't great but did win a few and placed a lot. His sire is Dragon Fire and his dam is Flying Cleburne. Cleburne is a girl that one of our volunteers owns and the same volunteer also owns one of Kaleb's brothers from a previous litter so we are very excited to be able to bring Kaleb in as well. Kaleb rode well on the trip up to SC from FL and seems to like to travel. He is a friendly boy that seems pretty calm and well behaved. Kaleb's foster mom says he is very good and is an easy foster that should be perfect for a first time greyhound owner. He did not pass his cat test so won't be able to live in a home with kitties. He was very good with the small white Italian Greyhound he met though so should be fine to live with small dogs. Kaleb seems like he would be fine as an only dog and is quiet in his crate so would probably be a great dog for an apartment. Update! Kaleb's family has made the difficult decision to let him find a new placement that perhaps has more time at home to spend with him. He will be arriving back in foster care very soon. |

MIXED BREED Dutch came to us from a NC shelter that thought he might be a greyhound mix. He had been found as a stray. We do have some information on him because he was microchipped. The name Dutch was listed on his microchip and it told us that he is 5 years old. Unfortunately his original owner was not able to be contacted with the info given. The original shepherd rescue group that placed him in Texas was found and contacted. They gave permission to rehome him here because of the distance. His microchip says that he is 5 years old. Dutch looks like a Dutch shepherd mix and may possibly be mixed with greyhound. Greyhound mixes are very rare here, but more common in Texas where he came from. He mostly has the Dutch Shepherd build and color but has greyhound looking ears. Dutch went through extensive temperament testing at the shelter. He passed everything with flying colors. He was fine with small dogs, cats and even kittens. He was OK with handling and gives kisses. He is friendly, but doesn't come across as really needy. He will explore by himself and then will come up and put his head on you for love. He is perfectly happy on a dog bed and doesn't seem to be a marker and hasn't had an accident inside. He had already been neutered by the previous rescue group that placed him in Texas. He eats very well and didn't seem too stressed by being in a shelter situation. Dutch has a big booming bark and will get excited when you first come home and will bark, so probably would not do well as an apartment dog. He was whiny at first as he was getting settled in his foster home. He seems to get along well with any dog he meets and gives them kisses too. Dutch should be fine as an only dog though. He travels very well and potties really well on leash. It only takes him about 30 seconds to take care of all his business on leash but if he has a yard to explore he loves to spend time outside sniffing around. He is a big brindle guy with a huge head, neck, and chest and smaller back end. He has huge feet, a round more barrel shaped body than a greyhound but does have pretty long legs and cute greyhound ears. He has more of a stiff coat than the typical greyhound. His weight was listed as 74lbs. Dutch seems like he has had a lot of training in the past. He does sit and down on command and will give his paw when asked. He works well for food and toys. He seems like he is very smart and figures things out quickly. He has definitely been a house dog because he knows what dog and human beds are and seems to have good housetraining and house manners already. He has no problem with slick floors or stairs. Dutch seems to like kids when he meets them but gets pretty excited to see them so may be a little much for small children. Dutch is strong and does pull on leash. If you remind him to heel he will come back and walk by your side so he has been trained to heel. He just needs reminders because he loves to sniff around on walks. |

Chic just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel in Orange Park. She also raced some of her 95 races at Wheeling in WV. She got up to the top A level briefly and even competed in a Stakes race so she was a good racer. Chic raced at 62lbs and her sire is the famous Craigie Whistler. Her dam is TMC's Moneymaker. Chic will turn 4 on November 23rd. She is a sweet, friendly girl. Chic passed her cat and small dog tests easily so should be able to live with either. She was curious about both but quickly lost interest after a few sniffs. More as we get to know her. |

Suzie has just arrived from the Blanchard kennel at Orange Park and will be vetted at Clinton Animal Hospital. She is a gorgeous, lightly marked, brindle girl with white socks and tail tip. Her left side almost has no brindling except a little on her shoulder. Sweet, calmer girl who roached within minutes of being placed into a kennel. Raced at 60 lbs. Will be 2 years old next month. Very little interest in either the little dog or the cat so should be fine to live with either. Her sire is Pat C Clement and her dam is U Too Serena. We placed her littermate Qest Imprint already and also placed a half brother by the same mom named Karl Malden. Both are great pets. Suzie only raced 10 races and didn't win any of those. She placed in most of her races though. She started playing with the other racers so was disqualified. Playing on the track is not allowed. Because she had a very short career, she is young and won't turn 2 until June 14th. |

Coyote just arrived from Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park. He raced most of his 65 races at Wheeling in WV though. He was a good racer getting up to B level at one of the best tracks. He raced his last race on Feb 1st of 2019 and came in last place. Looks like he may have had an injury that was rehabbed in hopes he could return to racing due to the amount of time he was kept at the track after his last race before they made the decision to retire him. After most minor injuries and even some more serious ones are healed, the dogs are often able to return to racing. Sometimes they just aren't fast enough after they heal up to continue racing or the old injury continues to bother them a little and they are retired. Coyote is turning 4 on May 15th. His sire is the famous Djays Octane and his dam is Ucme Chickaboom. He raced at 73lbs. Coyote is a very outgoing, happy boy. During his cat and small dog tests he was very curious and did a lot of sniffing. After a swat from the cat he lost all interest though. |

Timmons just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park in Jacksonville FL. He raced all over though starting out at Southland in Arkansas then going to Naples Ft Myers in Florida, then to Dubuque in IA, back to Southland in AR, Wheeling WV and finally Orange Park in Florida. Timmons was good racing 94 races and getting up to A level. He even placed in 4 Stakes Races, getting a 2nd, two 3rds and a 4th. Timmons raced at 73lbs and his sire is Dox Out Of Peace and his dam is Boc's Sluicey. He is a very good boy and as you would expect travels well and takes everything in stride. He picks up quickly on things and seems very bright. He figured out how to take his muzzle off with no problem. He crates quietly and has done great with potty training. He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home and was also fine with the small dog he met. He still needs cat testing but he has seen a few cats outside and hadn't gotten excited about them so we think he is likely to pass his cat test. Timmon's foster mom says he is one of the easiest fosters she has had. He is good on leash and corrects easily. He is a pretty calm guy that will turn 4 on June 27th. What a looker with all that eyeliner! |

Castiel is a red male that just arrived from Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park in Florida. He raced 48 races there and at Tri State in WV. He got up to B level so was pretty good at first but he has slowed a bit and only won one race since December even after moving to a slower track. He raced at 73lbs so is a mid sized male. His sire is the famous Djays Octane and his dam is Easi Narcissa. He will turn 3 on October 16th. Castiel needs a home with no cats or small dogs because he tends to want to chase anything that is small and furry. He is a happy, friendly guy that is very waggy. He wagged so hard at the vet's office that he injured his tail banging it into everything and had to have it wrapped up. |

Linda just came in from the Blanchard kennel in Jacksonville FL, she never actually raced and just didn't do well in training. She's a little girl with a sweet face and gentle manner that made everyone at the clinic fall in love with her right away. She was a bit timid learning everything new, but learned quickly and slept the first night quietly resting in her crate. Reactions to the cats have been mixed and her foster mom wasn't confident that she would be safe with all cats until a bit more work was done. Her sire is Defrim Bale and her dam is Arkuska Dolly. She will turn 2 on May 26th. |

Brandy just arrived from the Bolton Racing Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced 62 races mainly at the lower C and D levels but she did win a few races. Her sire is Golden Squire and her dam is B My Merlot. We placed her littermate B Dom Perignon awhile back. Brandy raced at 61lbs and will turn 3 on May 18th. She is mostly red without much of the black brindle striping, so is very striking and unusual. She is a silly, happy girl. She loves being close by and getting ear rubs or any type of affection and petting. She is great on leash and travels well. She passed her cat and small dog tests easily and has been living with kitties in her foster home. Her foster home has decided that they want her to stay. |

Brees just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She also raced at Wheeling Downs, Valley Race Track, and Naples Ft Myers. She was a good racer getting up to A level. She raced 96 races and raced at 60lbs so is a little girl. She pulled up and slowed down in her last race in October so probably had some type of injury. She is completely healed up from whatever it was now and isn't limping or showing any sign of any pain. Brees passed her cat test without much interest. She also did very well with the small dog she met and seemed to like the small kids as well. She is being fostered with children now. Brees is a sweet calm girl that is friendly and seems like she will be a great pet. Her sire is TMC's Remedy and her dam is TMC's Allheart. Brees turned 3 on June 1st. She is a beautiful white girl with brindle spots. The two big brindle spots on her back make her look like she has on wings. More as we get to know her. |

Twista just arrived from the Lester Raines Kennel at the Palm Beach race track. His owner Mike Hattery, is a friend of some of our members, and reached out to us and asked us to place him when he retired. Mike has pictures of Twista growing up and will be glad to pass them on to his new owner and would love to get updates. Twista was a kennel favorite, just one of those dogs whose personality stands out in a crowd. Very happy and social. His trainer says he loves to play and is very smart. He wishes he had a kennel full of dogs just like Twista. He says whoever gets him is going to get a great dog. Twista was a good racer getting up to A level and even competing in a Stakes race. He did well in the longer 660 yard races but also raced in the 550 and won. His sire is Hi Noon Renegade and his dam is SL Wolfgang. We placed his littermate NPZ ImperialLady as well. Twista passed his small dog test easily and seems to like kids. |

Jingles is a tall boy that raced at 71lbs. He turned 3 years old on January 7th. He only raced 10 races total and didn't win one of them. He raced 5 races at Derby lane in January of 2018 then was taken out of racing for a year. He raced another 5 races in January of 2019 and still didn't race well so was retired. His owners say that Jingles is an exceptionally fast greyhound that would win all the time at the training track, but then would not put his heart into the race once he got to the track. That is why they gave him a year to grow up and mature hoping that he would do better with time. Jingles is a confident, friendly, happy guy that passed his cat and small dog tests. He should be fine to live with either and is being fostered in a home with cats and small dogs. His foster mom says that he is curious about the cats and wants to play when they do but corrects well and should be fine with some supervision at first. Jingles is so comfortable in new situations that he laid down and did the famous greyhound roach, on his back with 4 feet in the air, within a few minutes of arrival. He is quiet in his kennel so may be OK to live in a townhouse or apartment. Jingles sire is the famous Bella Infrared and his dam is Blazin Booty. Because of his speed, he may be a good choice for someone that wanted to do amateur sports with greyhounds. He has had no injuries. They called him a morning glory because he did best in morning schooling races. |

His sire is the famous DJays Octane and his dam is Dutch Daphne. He was picked as a playful guy that gets along well with others for one of our volunteers that has a young playful greyhound that needs someone to play with. Wildcat passed his cat and small dog tests easily. He is a sweet guy that is going to be a great pet. |

Army is a very tall guy that came in from the Lester Raines Kennel at Orange Park. We were very excited to get him because we just placed his mom Lee Lonnie! He raced all of his 34 races at Orange Park in FL. He mainly raced at the lower levels but did get as high as B level briefly. His racing weight is listed as 79 but he is very tall and lanky for that weight and is one of the taller guys we have seen. He turned 3 on September 24th. He doesn't have very many races for his age and it looks like he took several breaks from racing: One after his first race October 7th of 2017 until mid December and another from May 5th to June 3rd of 2018. Then from June 7th to December 9th 2018. So it looks like he had some kind of reoccurring injury. Looking at all the bumps and falls he had, it looks like he was very clumsy due to his size. He did heal up completely and went back to racing in December, but was slow, so was retired after 4 races. Army's sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Lee Lonnie. Army is a sweet, friendly guy that travels well and seems to kennel pretty well. He has made just a little noise occasionally in his kennel, but slept through the first night without making a peep. He liked the small kids he met and seemed to do well with the small dog he met too. He was interested in the cats at first and did a lot of sniffing, but lost interest on his own without even getting a slap from the cat. We only listed him as trainable because there was some initial interest in the cat. Army was fostered with cats and did very well with them. He jumps in and out of a SUV fine. He doesn't like to potty on leash so probably will need a fenced yard. He has decent leash manners and doesn't pull but does go from side to side to check things out. His foster home describes him as a lovable dofus. Army can be dramatic like so many greyhounds. He will give the greyhound scream of death sometimes if he doesn't like something, like having his nails done. He just needs someone that doesn't buy into his drama. He is tall enough that his back touches the top of the 48 inch long crate so he needs an extra tall 48" long crate or a 54" long dane sized crate. Army was in a home for a couple of months but he didn't do well there as an only dog. They called him Harvey. He is a sensitive guy that picks up on his owner's anxiety so needs a happy confident owner so he can be the confident happy guy he normally is. |

Uncaptured just arrived from the Bolton Racing Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race track. She raced 131 races and nearly all of those were at the top A level. She was good winning 3 races in a row at the top level more than once. Uncaptured raced at 58lbs so is a small girl. She turned 4 on February 1st. Her sire is Flying Coal City and her dam is Gallant Ruler. She is a friendly, active girl that can be pretty vocal. She passed her cat and small dog tests with just some curiosity and sniffing at first. |

Latasha just arrived from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She is a sweet girl with a lot of personality that one of our volunteers fell in love with on a visit to the track. She was waiting on Latash to retire but when that finally happened we found out that Latasha is way too focused on cats to be able to live in their home with kitties. So Latasha is available for adoption. She raced 120 races and did get up to A level for awhile. Her racing weight was 62lbs. A lot of her most recent races were the shorter sprint races. Latasha turned 4 on October 4th. Her sire is the famous DJ's Octane and her dam is BI's Sugar Momma. Latasha loves toys and carries them around and places them on her dog bed along with a few items of clothing she found. She is a collector but doesn't seem to be destructive. She just likes to sleep with her toys and stuff. She is very sweet and loving and has a wonderful personality that drew us to her out of a kennel full of other dogs. She does need a home without kitties. More as we get to know her. |

Wheel House just arrived from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced 62 races there. She seemed to do best at the longer distance races and won a few of those but mainly placed. She is a littermate to Nothing But Dust that we also placed. Her sire is Golden Squire and her dam is Ready Set Gone. Wheel House is a tiny female that raced at just 60lbs and will turn 3 on May 9th. She passed her cat test easily and is being fostered with cats so should be fine to live with cats or small dogs. She is very sweet, friendly and pretty laid back. Her foster home just loves her and says she is a great girl that gets along great with their dogs. Wheel House has been determined to have Greyhound Bleeding Disorder after tests ruled out diseases such as Von Wildenbrands. Future owners should be cautious about surgery or bleeding emergencies and should always have Amicar on hand. Wheel House likes the comfort of her crate and sleeps quietly there all night, so may be a good choice for apartment living. She also potties nicely on leash so doesn't require a fenced yard as long as her family was willing to leash walk her to potty. She is such a cute tiny girl that can be just a little overwhelmed at first by new things. |

Casey just came in from the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Kennel. He actually raced in Palm Beach and Sanford Orlando though. He got up to A level so was good. Casey broke his hock in his 26th race on December 28th. He was sent to the Birmingham Track Adoption Group because of their rehab program for retired Greyhounds. His leg was splinted by the vet there. It did not heal properly and he was still barely using it when we got him. We had him rechecked by a specialist. Casey had to have the leg rebroken and plated in a surgical procedure on April 9th. The surgery was a success and the specialist thinks it will heal up and be usable again. Casey got picked on by other males at the track so will need a home with either no other males or another submissive male that won't pick on him. He is missing a chunk of one of his ears from one of the times someone picked on him. Casey is just a little timid and unsure in new situations. He is friendly and waggy with people though. Casey is bouncy and seems to be pretty energetic, but that could be because he has been on crate rest since the end of December and hasn't been allowed to play or run around at all. Casey just turned 2 on January 23rd so is still very young. His sire is the famous DJ's Octane and his dam is PJ Stay Back Kat. Casey did not pass his cat test at the track and was way too interested in kitties to live with them. He has been fine with a 15lb white Italian greyhound in his foster home so should be OK with small dogs. He crates well and keeps his crate clean. He does pull on leash curious to see everything. He travels well. His foster home says he loves her 12 year old daughter and seems to really like kids. Update one of our vets decided to adopt Casey and he will complete his rehab with her. |

Sasquatch just arrived from the Bolton Racing Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He raced 20 races and only won 2 of those. He is a giant, racing at 84lbs but is a gentle giant that is great with kids and passed his cat and small dog tests. Sasquatch will turn 2 on April 14th. His sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Djays Centerfold. Sasquatch is excellent on leash and crates well. He is very sweet and loving. He is being fostered with kids and cats. Sasquatch tested positive for heartworm after he arrived so he is on a vet hold for a couple of months while we get that treated. |

Blink just came in from the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Kennel. She raced there and also at Southland, Sanford Orlando and Orange Park. Although she raced 110 races she wasn't very good and raced mainly at the lower levels of racing and placed rather than winning most of the time. She was moved around to the different tracks in hopes of finding somewhere she would be competitive. She raced at 64lbs and turned 4 on December 11th. Blink did not pass her cat test so needs a home with no kitties. She does have a higher prey drive and wanted to chase a very tiny dog that only weighed 4lbs too. She was fine with a white Italian greyhound that was 15lbs though and a pug that was over 20lbs so should be fine with medium sized dogs or larger. She is outgoing and happy. Seems to be very sweet. She liked the small kids she met. She travels very well and crates nicely. At some point in her life, Blink had to have a front toe taken off so she is missing one. It doesn't seem to bother her and she was able to race without it. |

Virg just arrived from Double J Kennel at Orange Park Race Track in Florida. He is a tiny white male with brindle spots. He raced at only 63lbs. Virg only raced 29 races. He was racing well and had just gotten up to A level when he injured himself and pulled up back on June 25th of 2018. He was rested and didn't return to racing until December 21st. Since then, he always finished toward the back of the pack, so he was retired permanently. Virg is an active guy that is very outgoing. He gets so excited that he jumps on people so we are working on that. He passed his cat and small dog tests with a lot of curious sniffing. He backed off and acted like his feelings were hurt when the cat slapped him. His sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is Erika Of Ruckus. More as we get to know him. |

Talkin is a handsome black male that raced at 71lbs. He is very young and won't turn 2 until April 9th. He only raced 11 races at Orange Park in Florida. He did win two of those races early on, but finished his last race so far back that he wasn't even in the picture. Talkin is a sensitive guy that is a bit timid and seemed stressed by everything new in his life when he arrived. He is going to need some time to get comfortable in a new home. Talkin passed his cat and small dog tests easily with little interest in either so should be fine to live in a home with cats or small dogs. Talkin was adopted and in his first home for only a week before being returned to us. He was stressed there as an only dog and wasn't comfortable being alone for the first time in his life. He may need a home with other dogs and will definitely need more than a week in a home to get comfortable. Talkin's sire is My Bro Fabio and his dam is Superior Kotton. Paradise is a greyhound puppy that was sent to the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Kennel with her brother. We are pretty sure that she and her brother were retired due to the vote in Florida to end racing. They don't appear to have anything wrong with them that would prevent them from being racers when they grow up. Paradise is a beautiful tiny black female that still has a lot of growing to do. Probably about half the size she will eventually be. She is VERY outgoing and sweet. Very excitable and VERY active. We have her listed as no small dogs or small children because she immediately jumps on them and tries to get them to play. She isn't aggressive at all, just too playful and wild. She knocked the toddlers she met down and scratched them. She did the same with the small dog she met. She is not like the calm, adult greyhounds we are used to. Puppies are very sweet but very wild and hyper like any other puppy and quickly get to full sized. Imagine a 60lb puppy that can run 45mph and likes to run and play most of the day. Greyhound puppies aren't for everyone. They need training, socialization and lots of daily exercise every day to drain their energy and teach them good manners. Paradise had not worn a collar or a leash until we got her so still has a lot to learn. She is very smart and is already learning to fetch a ball and is starting to walk better on leash instead of laying down and refusing to move like she did at first. She will need a dog experienced home that has training experience because a 5 month old dog that has never been in a home before and has no manners at all is challenging. She has been crate trained and is very good in her crate. She travels well in her crate as well. Puppies require a large fenced yard to play in. Paradise loves to chase balls and loves chasing toys. |

Paragraph is a black male greyhound puppy that is only 5 months old. He was born on October 1st. He came in with his sister Yolo Paradise. His sire is Fiesta Paraguas and his dam is Bella Fuitzy. His owner just decided not to race some of the puppies in his litter and put them in pet homes instead. Probably as a result of Florida voting to stop racing as of the beginning of 2021- right when these pups would be going to the track to race. Greyhound puppies are expensive to raise properly and with over half the tracks in the country in Florida closing there will be a shortage of tracks for these pups to race at by the time they are old enough. Paragraph is a friendly, hyper puppy that is going to be a handful. He has not been leash or collar trained, has no house training or manners training at all yet but we are working on that. He was raised on a farm and has never been in a house or had the track training that the typical retired racers have. He has been living at the Birmingham Race Course adoption kennel for a couple of weeks so has had some crate training there. Paragraph is wild, hyper and playful like any other puppy, but he weighs around 50lbs and will be around 70lbs in a few months. Greyhound puppies are not the calm couch potatoes like the adults we are used to. Puppies need to run and play most of the day and need a lot of training, socialization and work on manners. They need plenty of room to run in a large fenced yard. Paragraph will need a home that has dog and puppy experience. Because of his size and rough play we would prefer to place him in a home with older children or no children. He would accidentally knock down a toddler in his excitement even though he wouldn't hurt a child on purpose. Paragraph is a very sensitive guy that gets overwhelmed and scared easily. After a week he still isn't liking wearing a collar and still shies away from hands that reach for his collar. He still freezes on leash and doesn't want to walk. He seems like new things bother him and that it takes him a long time to process change. He is a very sweet boy that wants petting and love but is a bit on the timid side at the same time. He will still come up to new people and jump on them and act crazy when the other puppies do, but is a bit more timid by himself. |

Fired Up arrived with two other puppies Paradise and Paragraph but isn't from the same litter. He is a shiny black boy that is slightly older than the other puppies being born on on September 18th. His sire is Flying Fired Up and his dam is Fiesta Pauline. He is a wild, friendly puppy that is around 50lbs and will get up into the 70s most likely in the next couple of months. His owner decided not to race the pups probably due to racing being ended in Florida and most of the race tracks in the country shutting down. Greyhound puppies are very expensive to raise and train for the race track when it is unlikely they will have tracks to race at when they are old enough to race. Fired Up has had none of the training the retired racers get and has just been on a farm running and playing with this littermates so far. He has not been collar or leash trained yet. He has had no potty training or manners training and has never been in a house before. He was at the Birmingham Race Course adoption kennel for a few weeks so has had a little bit of crate training there. Greyhound puppies need large fence yards with plenty of room to run. Fired Up will need a home with dog training experience and puppy experience that is willing to work with him to teach him all the things he needs to know to be a good pet. Because he is a big, excitable, wild puppy, he needs a home with older kids or no kids. He is just too wild and rough to live with toddlers that he could knock down. Greyhound puppies are wild and hyper like any other puppy but are bigger than most and can run at nearly 45mph so can be much more destructive than most puppies. They are nothing like the calm, well behaved, adult couch potatoes we typically get when we get retired racers. More as we get to know him. Fired Up is a happy, friendly guy. He is picking up on collar and leash training very fast. He still resists going in his crate but crates pretty well once he is in there. He does like to bark and is pretty vocal. He will happily bark to get your attention when playing and will bark in his crate if not corrected. He corrects very easily. He is learning not to jump on people and seems to be a fast learner. He is very sweet and will just stand next to you for love for a long time. He seems pretty calm for a greyhound puppy. He still loves to play and run though and needs a lot of exercise. He is doing good with the 15lb Italian greyhound in his foster home that lets him know that he doesn't want to play with him. Fired up does play pretty rough, so would have to have a lot of supervision and rules about playing gently with small dogs if he goes to a home with small dogs just because of his size and activity level. |

Doug Stamper's litter was named for the characters on the Netflix series House of Cards. We placed several dogs in his litter Frank Underwood, Heather Dunbar, and Skorsky. He was called Doug at the track but his first family called him Duke. Duke is a really big red male that raced at 86lbs but now weighs around 100lbs. He needs to lose quite a few pounds so has been on a diet since his return. He turned 4 on October 29th. Duke raced 89 races, mostly at the lower C and D levels but did get up to A one time. He raced at Derby Lane and Orlando tracks. His sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is D's Honey Badger. Duke is a friendly, happy guy that has been in an adoptive home for a year. He seems to love men the most and was very attached to the man in his current family. He loved playing fetch with him and just loves chasing tennis balls. He got way too excited when meeting a cat so needs a home without cats. He was fine with a 15lb Italian Greyhound after he was allowed to sniff him thoroughly, but Duke sometimes mistakes smaller dogs for rabbits or squirrels without a proper introduction. Duke likes to play with other dogs and is such a big dog that he would probably do best with a larger dog that was OK with rough play. He seems like a natural leader that can be a bit bossy so would do best with another dog that needed a confident dog. He may also be fine as an only dog. He has liked the kids he has met. He is smart and figured out potty training immediately. Duke also knows other commands like "wait" and has been very good in his home. Duke loves to travel and meet people. He is very quiet and was fostered in a townhouse initially so may be OK for apartment or townhouse living. He is good on leash. |

Talley just arrived from a farm in Arkansas. She raced 76 races at Wheeling Downs, Southland and Derby Lane. She did get up to A level briefly at Derby Lane and Wheeling so was pretty good. She retired from racing in December of 2016 and was sent back to the farm to be a mom. She had her first litter of 3 pups August of 2017 and they have just started their racing careers. Those are the only puppies registered but she has at least one other litter that was just weaned and maybe another one that hasn't been registered yet. Talley is a sweet girl that raced at 67lbs. She just turned 6 on March 14th. Her sire is Tyrur Alex and her dam is PTL Scarlet. Talley passed her cat test with just a little initial curiosity. She seemed fine with the small dog she met too. She crates very well and is quiet in her kennel. She travels well and just got in our van and laid down and went to sleep. She is really sweet and seemed to like the small kids she met. More as we get to know her. |

Sweet Senior! Kwanza was a super star when he was racing. He was the Winner of the 2010 Wheeling WVGOBA Middle Distance Championship and placed 3rd in the 2010 Tri-State WVGOBA Open Sprint. He raced 80 races at Tri-State and Wheeling winning at the top A and AA levels and competing in many Stakes races reserved for the best racers at those tracks. He was retired from racing in December of 2011 and has been at his owners farm since then. He had to have a toe amputated on his front foot at some point which is pretty common in pet greyhounds if they dislocate or break a toe. It is long healed and isn't even noticeable unless you are counting toes. Since the painful toe was removed there is nothing there to cause pain and he can run and play normally. Kwanza did sire one litter of pups back in 2015 but they weren't great racers like he was, so it doesn't look like he sired any more pups after that. He has been just hanging out at the farm as a pet until now. Kwanza raced at 72lbs and is short and stocky. His sire is Larking About and his dam is Myokie Flame. We already placed two half sisters Rico's Tignanello and Rico's By A Nose (also same mom). Kwanza will turn 11 on January 31st. Since Kwanza is a senior guy over 8 he qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. Kwanza passed his cat tests with some initial interest that only lasted until the cat slapped him. Then we couldn't pull him back to the cat. We think he would be easily trainable with a confident cat. Kwanza walks perfectly on a loose leash and doesn't pull. He gets along really well with other greyhounds. He has been completely vetted and had a dental and a few tooth extractions. Kwanza was placed in an adoptive home in October but has been returned due to having accidents in the house. Our vet checked him and he just has a urinary tract infection, which is being treated with antibiotics. He will be available for adoption after our vet has retested to make sure he is clear of infection. Kwanza is a bit of a marker due to living on a farm his entire life and being able to potty whenever and wherever he wanted to. He will need training and supervision in any new place to learn where he is allowed to go. |

Maddy just arrived from Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She is a small black female that raced at 57lbs and will turn 3 on September 1st. She raced 48 races and the only race she ever won was her very first one. She placed enough at the lowest D level to keep running for awhile though. Maddie's sire is Flying Fired up and her dam is Rock ABy Shu Shu. She is a very sweet friendly and happy girl. Gorgeous too with the glossy black coat that is just beautiful. Maddie loves hugs, cuddles and ear rubs. She walks great on leash and rides very well too. She passed her cat and small dog tests too. |

Theo just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He only raced 5 races there and managed to win one of those and place in all of the others so was getting off to a good start. His last race was October 20th and he was at the track since then. Most likely was being rehabbed from a minor injury that happened in his last race in hopes he could return safely to racing but when that didn't happen he was finally retired. Theo raced at 69lbs and turned 2 on Jan 9th. His sire is TMC's Remedy and his dam is Braska Faver. Bison likes to stand up and see where he is going in the car and would love to be allowed to drive. He will climb into your lap if given a chance. He is a very friendly happy velcro dog that loves people. More as we get to know him |

Fox came in initially from the CTW kennel in Wheeling WV. He is a cute little red male that raced at 69lbs. He turned 5 on September 18th. His sire is CTW Base Camp and his Dam is CTW Melodramatic. Fox is a calm, quiet male. He is pretty good on leash and well behaved. He is a happy sweet boy that should be an easy addition to any family. So handsome too. He is doing great with the small white italian Greyhound in his foster home and was afraid of the cat he met and wouldn't go near it. Fox travels very well and just gets in the car and lays down calmly. He is very snuggly and loves people. After being in an adoptive home for nearly two years Fox mistook an outside cat for a bunny or a squirrel and killed it, so is now looking for another home. We stress to adopters that no greyhound should ever be trusted outside with cats because they could mistake a cat in the bushes for something else. Greyhounds are only good with indoor kitties and shouldn't ever be around outside cats. Fox is still fine with indoor kitties but because of this mistake he has to find a home with no cats at all. |

Eugene just arrived from a Florida farm where he has been living since he retired from racing in March of 2018. He raced mainly at the lower levels but did get up to B level a few times in his 57 races. He raced most of his career at D'Arcy Kennels at Derby Lane, but also raced briefly at Gulf. Most 4 year olds would have a lot more races. Eugene was taken out of racing for a year from December 5th of 2016 and not put back into racing until Nov of 2017 after a collision and fall in a race. He went back and had 15 more races after his year long break. Eugene is a gorgeous 71lb black male. He is the sweetest, most gentle boy, that gives kisses to humans and other dogs alike when he meets them. He passed his cat test easily and has been fine with a small dog too. He likes kids and everyone else he meets. He pulls on leash some, curiously checking things out. He is a calm guy in the house though and very well behaved. He crates really well but does whine sometimes, so probably wouldn't be quiet enough for townhouse or apartment living. At the track, some of the other boys would bully him and he didn't even defend himself. His track trainers ended up always turning him out with one or two other gentle boys like him, rather than with the larger pack of more rowdy males. Eugene will turn 4 on September 26th. His Sire is Makeshift and his dam is Celtic Dream. |

Quirky came in from the Birmingham Track Adoption Kennel. He was a good racer there racing most of his 178 races at the top A level. He is a larger guy that raced at 80lbs. He will turn 8 on December 15th. His sire is an Irish import Ballymac Flight* and his dam is BD's Harper. Quirky did not pass his cat test so needs a home with no kitties. He did respond OK to the small dog he was tested with and realized quickly that it was a dog and not a bunny. Quirky's was initially fostered in a townhouse and was very quiet in his crate there. He was briefly in another apartment home and complained about being left there, so may not be a great apartment dog. He is a very easy, calm guy that would be great for a first time greyhound owner. He is a sweet guy that loves people. Great personality! Quirky has been in a home for 4 years. For a couple years he was living as an only dog, then they adopted another male greyhound, Ryan. Both boys were recently returned to us by because his family decided that they no longer wanted to have dogs. They said it absolutely was not a problem with either of the dogs, they were good dogs. We had a home wanting to adopt two bonded dogs together, so Ryan and Quirky are being fostered by her and will stay permanently if all goes well. |

Ryan inititally came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He is a cute white boy with brindle patches over his ears and eyes and a patch on his side. He is a smaller guy that raced at 64lbs. He just turned 5 on May 3rd. His sire is Flying Westover and his dam is A Bar Seclusion. He raced 47 races at Tri State in WV and Sanford Orlando before he retired. Ryan is very outgoing and sweet. He wasn't bothered at all by the move from the track and adapted quickly to home life. He seems pretty easy going and confident. Ryan was adopted in 2016 by a family and has lived with them for 2 years. They recently decided they didn't want the responsibility of dogs anymore and returned Ryan along with his housemate Quirky. They said the dogs were very good and it wasn't anything the dogs did wrong that caused them to be returned, they just didn't want dogs anymore. Fortunately we had a home looking for two dogs to adopt together so both boys have been moved to her. They will stay with her permanently if all goes well. |

Sally just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race track. She never actually raced and just didn't do well in training so was retired. She is very young and won't even turn 2 until June 14th. She is a little gal that raced at 61lbs. Her sire is Pat C Clement and her dam is U Too Serena. We place another boy from an earlier litter from the same mom named Karl Malden. Sally is friendly and curious about everything. She was too curious about the cat and interested in chasing it so needs a home with no kitties. She seemed fine with the small white dog in her first foster home and really liked the toddlers she met there as well. Sally is a very sweet little girl. More as we get to know her. |

Liv just arrived with her brother Surprise. She raced at the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She only had 5 races and finished toward the back of the pack in all of them so was retired very young. She won't turn 2 until July 14th. Liv is a timid little girl that is pretty shy at first. Her trainers said that once she gets more comfortable she really wants to come up to you and interact but just can't seem to get the courage up sometimes. She will gradually warm up to her family but will just need some time. She is a small dark brindle girl that raced at 60lbs. Her sire is Pat C Sabbath and her dam is Livin Ona Prayer. Liv traveled well. She was not interested in the cats she met at all and is being fostered with cats. She wasn't sure of what to make of the toddlers she met and mostly just froze and turned her head away. Since she is shy she may do better in a quiet home with older kids. Young, loud, fast moving kids may be too much for her. More as we get to know her. |

Indescreet (yes is is actually spelled that way) just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course's adoption kennel. She actually raced her entire career of 102 races in Florida though. She raced at Palm Beach and Sanford Orlando race tracks. She just was sent to Birmingham because they transport a lot of dogs to adoption groups across the country. Indescreet got bumped in her last race and hurt the tendon in her back right leg and had a little swelling there when she first arrive with us at the end of December. She hurt herself on November 30th. Indiscreet is a cute, happy, brindle girl with a tiny white stripe on her nose. She raced at 62lbs and turned 3 on July 3rd. Her sire is Fortified Power and her dam is Constant Dream. Indescreet passed her cat test easily without interest. She also passed her small dog test. She is very friendly and seemed to like everyone she met including children. She kenneled quietly and nicely when she arrived and traveled well on the trip over. |

Special Senior! GIgi initially retired from the Tri State Track in WV after just 20 races. She never won one of those races. She retired way back in Jan of 2012 and was placed in an adoptive home at some point but were weren't able to find any info on that. We were just able to find her racing record on the international racing database using her ear tattoos. Gigi was found 3 years ago running loose in NC. The person that found her just kept her when no one claimed her. The family that found her just contacted us about rehoming her because they could no longer keep her. Gigi is a sweet senior so qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. She turned 9 on October 31st. Her sire is Freeride Rebel and her dam is UMR Ms Beulai. She has been checked over by our vet, got a fresh dental and a clean bill of health. More as we get to know her. |

Duke just arrived from the track adoption kennel that takes retirees from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He raced all of his 113 races at Orange Park. Duke was a fantastic racer that ran and won at the top A level. He competed in quite a few Stakes races reserved for the best racers at the track. His sire is the famous SH Avatar and his dam is Nisei. Duke turned 3 on June 22nd. He raced at 72lbs. He is a friendly guy that doesn't seem to be stressed out by much. He is very curious about things and needs a little work on leash because he wants to go check out everything new. He passed his first cat test with only a little initial interest in sniffing the cat. After a slap from the cat he didn't want to get near it again and quickly decided to check out everything else in the room. He was placed briefly in a home with cats but he had a completely different reaction to those cats and wanted to chase them so although he seems OK with some cats he meets he probably should go to a home without kitties. He did well with the small dog he met so should be OK in a home with small dogs. He really liked the toddlers he met as well. He seemed to travel well and walked right across shiny wood floors with no problem. He is a beautiful, unusual, black brindle - mostly black with a little golden/orange striping. |

Charger raced at 73lbs so is a mid sized male greyhound. His sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is JB's Powerplan. Charger is an outgoing, happy guy. He will turn 4 on June 26th. He passed his cat and small dog tests easily and was actually a bit afraid of a 5 lbs kitten and backed away when the kitten approached. Charger has been adopted and renamed Jack by his new family. |

Dust just arrived from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He raced 56 races mainly at the lower levels but did win a few races. He raced at 78lbs and will turn 3 on May 9th. His sire is Golden Squire and his dam is Ready Set Gone. We are also getting his sister Wheel House. Dust is a happy, outgoing, active guy that is a lot of fun. He passed his cat and small dog tests with little interest in either after the first few sniffs. He was more interested in exploring and checking everything out. A real curious boy. He can be vocal so probably will not be an apartment or townhouse dog. We also got Dust's sister My Wheel House from the came kennel. |

Rainman just arrived from Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He is a big black pup that never raced so doesn't have an official race weight but we would guess him to be around 80lbs. He won't turn two until March 5th so is a young guy. His sire is Vee Man Vane and his dam is Superior Samba. He seems like a friendly, happy guy. He pulls some on leash wanting to go check out everything so needs a little work on that. He rode well with the other dogs. More as we get to know him. He is not a marker and didn't even want to pee on trees and bushes on a walk. He may need a fenced yard since he didn't seem interested in taking care of his business while on leash. Rainman loves kids and is being fostered with kids. He also did fine with the small dogs he met. He was pretty interested in the cats he met though so needs a home with no kitties. He is a very good boy that is very sweet and doing really well in foster care. He probably is not a going to be a good choice for apartment living because he has been a little loud sometimes in his kennel. |

Surprise just arrived with his sister Liv from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race track. He is a 75lb black boy that is very young. He won't turn 2 until July 14th. He only raced 4 races and finished all of those at the back of the pack. He was retired young after coming up with a slightly sore shoulder after his 4th race. Surprise traveled well and seems pretty calm so far for a young guy. He sniffed the cats he met curiously but never tried to harm them, so even though he is curious we think he is very trainable. He is being fostered with a kitty so he will get used to being around them. He was very good with the small dog he was introduced to and is being fostered with a pug. His sire is Pat C Sabbath and his dam is Livin Ona Prayer. Surprise potties nicely on leash so doesn't require a fenced yard. He just whined a little the first night and then was quiet so may be a good choice for apartment living. He does fine on wood and shiny floors. |

Praise just arrived from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race track. She is a pretty little black female that raced at 60lbs. Praise turned 4 on September 12th and she is the shiniest glossy coat. She raced 130 races mostly at the lower levels but did get up to B and even A level briefly. Her sire is P's Gibbs and her dam is MRL Booby Trap. Praise rode well on the trip back from the vet and after a couple a whines settled down quietly in her crate by herself. She was just a little overwhelmed when she first arrived but seems like she warms up quickly. She is waggy and will give gentle hugs pretty fast. She seems like she is a happy bouncy girl that is going to be a lot of fun. She passed her cat test without any interest and was fine with the small dog she met too. She wasn't sure what to make of the toddlers she met but wasn't shying away from them and was fine with them petting her. More as we get to know her. |

Molly originally came to us from the Sanford Orlando race track years ago. She started out racing in Abilene, then went to Derby Lane, and Palm Beach, before going to Orlando. Her owners hoped to find a track that she would be competitive at. She only won one race and finished last or close to last in most of her races so was retired after only 26 races. Molly was adopted right after she retired in 2012 and has been living in their home since. Due to a schedule change they are gone more than before and don't have time for her anymore, so have decided to rehome Molly. Her family feels like she would do better in a quiet home without small loud kids. They say she gets stressed around children. She has been living as an only dog but doesn't like being home alone for long periods so she may do better with a doggy friend she can hang out with. Molly passed her cat test at the track and is being fostered with small dogs. She is a light brindle female that raced at 60lbs, Her birthdate is 9/1/2010 so she is 8. Molly qualifies for our reduced senior adoption fee of $250. She is timid at first so you should let her come to you. She enjoys sunbathing and walks. She does not like traveling or going for rides. She has never gotten up on the furniture. She is very dramatic and will scream if her legs are touched. She has never really played with toys and is a very calm girl that likes to lay around. Her sire is CTW Legendary and her dam is Seagold Jane. |
