Guru just arrived from Lester Raines Kennel at Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville Florida. He raced 64 races mainly at the Sanford Orlando Race track where he ran in Bolton Kennel. When that track closed, he was moved to Jacksonville. He was a good racer racing at the top A level in Orlando. He jammed his ankle in his last race so they decided to retire him even though it could easily heal up with a couple of months break from racing. There are only about 10 weeks of racing left in Florida so they decided to just retire him. His ankle is already doing really well. He just shouldn't run around for another month or so to make sure it is totally healed. Guru is pretty friendly but can be slightly timid at first in new situations. He was a bit nervous when confronted by a friendly cat and tried to hide in the curtains. Was a little hesitant to approach the small dog too but did eventually get brave enough to sniff. Guru is a mid sized guy that raced at 75lbs. He just turned 3 on August 6th. His sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is Sav Anna. He looks like he was the only pup in his litter and he was born at Plum Creek farm. More as we get to know him

Sophie just arrived from Greyhounds as Pets of NE Florida. They are the track adoption group for the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. Sophie never actually had an official race at the track. She flunked out of race training so is a very young girl that won't turn 2 until November 7th. Sophie is a pretty red girl that was vetted in Jacksonville FL before we got her. She wanted to chase the cats and small dogs she was introduced to so needs a home with medium to large size dogs only that she won't mistake for squirrels or bunnies. Sophies sire is Show On The Road and her dam is GS April. More as we get to know her.

Sully just arrived from Greyhounds As Pets of NE Florida. They are the track adoption group for the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She was vetted in Jacksonville with their vet. Sully raced only 3 of her 62 races at Orange Park. She raced the rest of her races at the Sanford Orlando track and was moved to Orange Park after Orlando closed in March. It took Sully 21 Maiden races (races for dogs that have never won a race) to actually win a race. She stayed at the lowest D level for quite a few races and gradually figured it out and got up to B level. When she started coming in last place in her races again she was retired in September. Sully is a fuzzy dark brindle girl that will turn 3 November 18th. She raced at 60lbs. Her sire is Rocksteady Eddie and her dam is Dakotas Peggey. We placed a fully brother from a different litter recently named Rainydayadventur. Sully passed her small dog test and seems to like the kids she met. She was too interested in chasing cats so needs a home without kitties. Sully is sweet, affectionate and loves to play with toys. She was very noisy in her kennel at first and would howl when left alone so probably wouldn't be a good apartment dog. Gradually she got better and was able to stay quiet in her kennel after a few days in her foster home. More as we get to know her.

Harlequin came in specifically for a family that knew her owner. We are getting her spayed at Oasis Animal Hospital in Mauldin and facilitating the adoption for her racing owner. Harlequin is a little timid at first but seems like she will warm up with a little time. She is doing fantastic in her foster to adopt home. Linus just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville Florida. He was vetted there with the track adoption group before coming to us. He never had an official race because he was never able to win a maiden race. He only did 5 maiden races that are for new racers that have never won a race. Once they win a maiden race they become an official racer. Linus is a 77lb black male that turned 2 on July 29th. His sire is the famous SH Avatar and his dam is Litemyfuse. Linus has too much prey drive to live with kitties and did not pass his cat test. He should be OK to live with small dogs because he has done well with the ones he has met on walks around the neighborhood.  He is a very sweet, friendly guy that loves to give kisses and is very gentle and affectionate. Linus is very outgoing and wants to go see every person he sees on walks. He loves the water and loves his walks. Every morning he wakes his foster dad up by putting his paws on his chest and kissing his neck then just snuggles his face on his chest. He still needs to be tested with kids.

He retired back in March and was with Greyhounds As Pets of North East Florida, the track adoption group, until coming to us. He still needs to be tested with cats but has done fine with the dogs he has met. Inkster's sire is the famous SH Avatar and his dam is Pat C Bs Calamus. He just turned 4 on August 9th. Inkster's foster mom says he is an old soul. He hasn't had one accident in the house and tells her when he needs to go outside. He walks really well on leash. He was so relaxed that he was laying on a dog bed with all 4 feet in the air the first day in a home. He loves people and is very sweet and gentle. He loves to snuggle and is just so sweet. Inkster came to us with one toe gone from a previous toe injury that needed amputation. That doesn't bother him at all anymore, but he had another swollen toe that our vet was worried about. It turned out to just be an abscess that needed to be drained and another amputation was not required. He just had that done on Sept 14th and will be on a medical hold until his stitches come out and he is done with the antibiotics. He should be ready to go home around October 1st.

She doesn't appear to have much prey drive or drive to chase and wasn't interested in cats or small dogs at all. She is living with chickens in her foster home too. Tanz is a young girl that won't turn 2 until October 18th. Her sire is Need My Moneynow and her dam is BS Country Music. Her litter were all named for stones. Echo is a return that is coming in with her littermate Tone because their owner just passed away suddenly. Tone and Echo raced separately, but have bonded since they have gotten back together. We would like to place them in a home where they can stay together. Echo raced 75 races, mainly in Orlando but also a few in Palm Beach. She got up to the top A level briefly so was pretty good but her brother, Tone, was the faster of the two and raced at the more competitive track. Echo last raced in May of 2018 and was adopted in December of 2018, her brother was added to the family a month later in January of 2019. The dogs had a wonderful owner that made sure they had the best of everything. Their vacations were even planned around where the dogs could go. Echo raced at 56lbs and will turn 6 on December 8th. Her sire is Talbon and her dam is Bakin. Echo's previous home had no cats, small dogs or kids so they will need to be tested with them before placement. Echo is a very shy girl. She will cautiously approach you for attention but if you go towards her she will back away. She will need some time to warm up to her new family. She seems pretty overwhelmed and nervous at first with new people and in a new environment. Having her more confident brother around really seems to help her.

She wouldn't get near the cat and seemed like she had already been around cats before and understood that they had claws. She was also fine with the small dogs she met and seems to have a very low prey drive. She loves being around other dogs and would love to go to a home with another dog to play with. She likes toys and tries to get the small dog in her foster home to play but he is older and just not interested. She seems like a friendly happy sweet girl and will get up in your lap if allowed. Very social, curious and silly. Great with the toddler she has spent time with too.

Sookie had been adopted years ago in Florida by Greyhounds As Pets of NE Florida and that adoption group contacted her owners. She turned 10 on May 12th. Her sire is Fuzzy's Cannon and her dam is WBF Sugar Buzz. Her foster family says she is a happy, friendly girl that is well behaved and pretty spunky for an older lady. She has been into our vet at Oasis Animal Hospital in Mauldin and has been given a clean bill of health. She had not had good dental care and had to have most of her teeth removed but other than that she is healthy and very happy. Because she is a senior she qualifies for our reduced senior adoption fee of $250. More as we get to know her.

Freebird just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race track in Jacksonville FL. She raced most of her races in WV at the Tri State and Wheeling tracks. She was a fantastic racer getting up to the top AA level in Wheeling and that is one of the most competitive tracks. Freebird started slowing down and was sent to Jacksonville in June to see if she could be competitive there. She pulled up and stopped in her last race on August 9th so was retired. Freebird is a stunning tall narrow girl that raced at an XL 71lbs. She is all legs and very tall for a girl and even taller than most boys. Freebird turned 3 on January 19th. Her sire is the very famous Trent Lee and her dam is Easi Play. Freebird is a happy, very outgoing girl. She is missing half her tail, probably because she wags it so much. Greyhounds that are very waggy commonly injure their tails and end up having to have a partial tail amputation. The greyhound community even call it "happy tail". Freedom passed her cat test here without much interest other than a quick sniff. She was much more interested in eating the cat's food. At the track she was more interested in the cat during her test so since she showed interest in one cat we listed her as trainable instead of cat friendly even though she showed no interest in our cat. Freebird is very food motivated so may be great for obedience, agility or trick training. She gets along well with other dogs of all sizes too. A really sweet girl.

Presley just arrived from Orange Park Race Track. He was with the Greyhounds As Pets of NE Florida track adoption group and was vetted there before coming to us. He raced 118 races but wasn't a great racer. He mainly just placed at the lower D level of racing and only actually won 2 races in his career.  The comment on one of his two wins was "Shocks The World" so he was well known as a dog that never won. Since he placed frequently, he was still able to have a pretty long career without actually winning. Presley is a red male that raced at 72lbs. He passed his cat test so should be fine to live with cats and small dogs. Presley was sired by GS Anthony and his dam is GS Addison. More as we get to know him.

Homare just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course adoption kennel with her sister Carli Cool. Homare didn't actually race there but was sent there from the Palm Beach Race track when it closed. She only has a schooling race listed at Palm Beach and no official races. It looks like she raced a few races in Iowa before that but finished toward the back of the pack. Homare is a tiny little thing that raced at just 50lbs. She won't turn 2 until September 3rd. Homare's sire is Cheeky Monkey and her dam is Cool Valley. Homare lost interest in the cat after a few sniffs and was polite and well behaved with the small dog she met so should be fine to live with either. She seemed overwhelmed and very calm when she first arrived but has gotten more active and puppyish after a few days. She has been mostly quiet in her kennel but did a little barking at first. So far she hasn't been eating very good, probably due to the stress of everything new. She is a sweet girl that seems like she likes people and other dogs.

Pet/Kennel Name:

Age:

Color/Gender:
Light Fawn Female
Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Halliwell (N. Augusta, SC)
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Hillgen-Smith family 8/24/20

Catalpa's litter were all named for types of trees with the Superior prefix. She initially came in from the Melbourne Race track 2.5 years ago and has been in an adoptive home since then. Cate also raced some of her 56 races at Derby Lane, Sanford Orlando and Mardi Gras tracks in Florida. She only won 4 races, so was moved around in hopes her owners could find a track that she would be competitive at, but that wasn't to be the case. In her last race she wasn't paying attention and missed the break out of the box. She still managed to come in 6th, but they decided to retire her. Cate raced at 62lbs and is light fawn female that turned 5 on June 27th. She has been in an adoptive home for 2.5 years. Her owner has health issues and is unable to care for Cate, so asked us to help re-home her. Her sire is Shonn and her dam is Superior Tingler. Catalpa is a very friendly girl that was hard to get pictures of because she would run right over for an extreme closeup as soon as she saw anyone come in. She really likes people and is a very happy, outgoing girl. Catalpa passed her cat and small dog tests and has been living with 2 cats and another dog in her adoptive home. She has been living with small children as well and really likes children. The only problem they reported was that they had to put her up in a crate when the kids were eating because Cate would try to steal the food and would growl if anyone tried to take the food away. She also didn't like anyone trying to take her dog food when she was eating. Even though she really likes small kids we think she would do best in a home with older kids that weren't likely to drop food and understood to leave her alone when she is eating. Cate is fine doing a few steps but has never had to do long flights of steps and really isn't comfortable with a lot of stairs. She is fine walking on shiny wood floors. Cate never gets up on the furniture. She is quiet in her crate so could be an apartment dog, if it was a ground floor apartment. She also potties well on leash and walks on leash well, so doesn't need a fenced yard if her new owners were willing to leash walk her to potty. Cate is afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks. Her owner sent her with her things: a large crate, bed, and collar and leash. Cate is already home acclimated, is up to date on her vetting and is ready to go home.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Ahl family of St. Mary's GA 8/16/20

Emery just arrived from the Celtic Hounds Kennel. She was in the last load from the now closed Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced her whole career of 76 races there except for one race at Dubuque. She raced mainly at the lower C level but did get up as far as B a couple of times. Emery raced at 61lbs and turned 3 on Feb 1st. Her sire is Barcelona Boss and her dam is XKT Minnie Beets. Emery is a happy outgoing girl. Emery was very interested in the cat and excited by fast movements, but she did back off when the cat hissed and smacked her. She would probably be best in a home with no cats, although she may be cat trainable in a very experienced home with a confident cat. She did not like being alone in the kennel and cried a lot after the other dogs left, so may do best in a home with another dog to hang out with. She has been really good with some of the small dogs in her foster home but there is one that she has been wanting to play with. She may do better with medium sized dogs and larger that would be OK to play with a dog her size, since a really small toy-sized dog may get hurt accidentally. Emery is used to being around her trainers children at the race track so should be fine with kids.

Pistol just arrived from the Roban Farm in Florida. She is young and never raced. She got tattoos at 3 months old Litter number 73074 and right ear 118E but never completed the registration process and got a registered racing name. She has been called Pistol though. Pistol will turn 2 in November. She has been a little overwhelmed by everything new since this is her first time leaving the farm. Her owner says she is normally very outgoing and with a little time to warm up will be the star of the show and is likely to be almost annoyingly friendly. Pistol is very used to being around small dogs, cats and other animals on the farm she was raised on. She has been completely comfortable with the cats and small dogs she has been around since she arrived too. She has been very quiet in her kennel and kennels well, so may be a good apartment or townhouse dog. Pistol's sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and her dam is Cahillusmarshall. We have placed lots of dogs from her Sire and one half brother that had the same mom named FF Ironman. Pistol has warmed up very fast and is very sweet and outgoing. She is very waggy and wags not just her tail but her whole body. She was vetted at Oasis Animal Hospital in Mauldin SC.

Port just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course adoption kennel. He didn't actually race there but was sent there to be placed with an adoption group since they transport dogs to groups all over the country. Port also raced a few of his 87 races at Tri State in WV. He wasn't a good racer mostly racing at the lower C and D levels and rarely winning but he placed enough to keep his career going. Port's litter were all named for different types of wine. He raced at 78lbs so is a larger guy. He will turn 4 December 16th. His sire is Rico's Vintage and his dam is Flying Navy Seal. Port is a very happy friendly guy who isn't phased or concerned about anything. When he first arrived he was very excitable about everything but he calmed down quickly and is doing well in foster care. He is not trying to mark in the house so far and is doing great on his potty training. He is a very strong guy that needs work on walking nicely on leash, he does pull and wants to check out everything. He passed his cat and small dog test. He was very curious about the cat and spent a lot of time sniffing it but was just as excited about everything else in the room. He didn't try to chase the cat. He should be OK with cats with some initial supervision. He seemed to like the other dogs he met and definitely loves people. Port takes a long time to go potty on leash. He prefers to potty off leash and trots around looking for that perfect spot. For that reason we think he would do best in a home with a fenced yard.

He is 4 years old and celebrated his 4th birthday on June 1st. He raced at 71lbs so is a mid sized guy. His sire is Deerfield Site and his dam is Bob's Streak. Spicer is doing fantastic in his foster home. He is good with small dogs he has met. He loves to play with toys and squeaky toys are his favorite. He is a happy loving guy.  Update!  Unfortunately Spicer's mom Passed recently and his family will be sending him back to GC for another home.  This sweet older fella is safe with cats, small dogs, and children- all he needs is the perfect match for the rest of his retirement.  Because of his age he will be adopted on the reduced Special Needs rate.  Let's find him a second family who will cherish his senior years with as much affection and care as his beloved Mom showered on him.  (Note, the photo shown here was his original adoption listing.  We'll get it replaced ASAP)

Bemo just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He raced 24 races there and only won 2 of those races. Most of the time he finished 7th or 8th. We also placed a littermate of his Sur La Mer recently. Bemo is a tiny male that raced at just 64lbs. He will turn 3 on October 18. His sire is the famous Hi Noon Hero and his dam is Herecomestippy. Bemo is a friendly happy guy whose owner said he was the most outgoing and social of his entire litter. He is pretty calm for a 2 year old though. He is always bouncy, waggy and happy to see you, but calms down pretty fast. He eats well and always finishes his food and seems pretty food motivated if someone wanted to do trick training or obedience with him. He can be loud at first in his kennel so probably won't be a good apartment or townhouse dog. He does quiet down fast though and has always slept quietly through the night. He can be a bit of a marker so will need to be supervised closely at first. This tiny guy has a lot of personality and has the tendency toward being a bit dramatic, yelping if he even thinks something may hurt him. Fun boy that is going to make an excellent pet.

Dee Dee is coming in from a farm in Arkansas. She has been retired from racing since November of 2018. She went back to her owner to be a mom. She had a litter of 7 puppies last year and had another single puppy a few months ago. She wanted nothing to do with her last puppy and refused to nurse him. Since she wasn't thrilled with being a mom, her owner decided to retire her from Mom duties. Dee Dee is a very special girl that has been living as a pet for a little over a year while she raised her pups. She has been living with small Italian Greyhounds at the farm and is good with them. She is a friendly girl that has a great personality. Dee Dee is a confident girl and being a mom is likely to boss other dogs around a bit. She raced at Melbourne and Derby Lane tracks. She was pretty good getting up to A level and even competing in a Stakes race. She raced 56 races but stumbled in her last race and broke her leg ending her career. Her leg is completely healed, but didn't heal up perfectly, so she still limps on it some. It doesn't slow her down though. She can run and play and go up and down stairs just fine. Dee Dee raced at 62lbs and is still pretty young. She won't turn 5 until September 2nd. Her sire is the famous Pat C Clement and her dam is Backwood Robin. Dee Dee was vetted by her owners in Arkansas before they sent her to us. She is home acclimated already and has been a pet while she was being a mom for a couple of years. The family she was living with while she had her pups would love to keep in contact with her new owners. They miss her. Be sure to look at her other pictures to see her with her cute pup.

He is a strong guy that pulls some on the leash because he is curious about everything and wants to go say Hi to everyone he sees. He is doing better with his foster family on walks already and just pulls at first when he is excited. Blaze's tail wags happily most of the time. He loves to chase balls and loves to run and play in his foster's yard. He was whiny at first but is quieting down now but still may not be a good apartment dog. More as we get to know him.

He had surgery in Jacksonville before we got him. He is having his splint changes and rehab with us. It usually takes 6 to 12 weeks for a break to heal so he should be ready for adoption sometime in June. He is a sweet guy that falls asleep during splint changes. Shock just arrived from the Birmingham Track Adoption Kennel. She didn't actually race there, but was sent there to be placed with one of the adoption groups they send dogs to after the Palm Beach Race Track shut down suddenly. Her last race was May 9th. Shock had a very long career of 186 races, all at Palm Beach and most at the top A level. She even was good enough to be chosen to race in a couple of big Stakes races reserved for the best racers at the track. Shock raced at 66lbs and is a tall narrow girl that is taller than some of the smaller boys. She is gorgeous with long legs and a tiny waist and ears that stand straight up. Shock will turn 5 on August 8th. Her sire is SE's Jet Fuel and her dam is JS Grand Prix. She passed her cat test with some initial interest but when the cat slapped her she wouldn't go near it again. She was great with the small dog she met. She liked the kids she met too. Shock is excellent on leash and seems to be a pretty calm girl that made a little noise the first day in her kennel, but has been pretty quiet since then. She seems like a calm, well behaved girl that is pretty friendly. She seems like a sensitive girl that responds well to the slightest correction. She did great in her kennel on the ride to and from the vet and just laid down quietly. She fussed about the other dogs stepping on her when she was transported out of the crate with a couple of other females.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Kelly family of N. Myrtle Beach SC, 7/13/20

Amy came from the Sanford Orlando Race Track closing. She has been fostered by her racing owner in NC since, so has already been home acclimated for awhile. Amy raced 38 races and also raced briefly at the Palm Beach Race track. She wasn't very good only winning a few times at the lowest D level. Amy raced at 66lbs. She won't turn 3 until Nov 25th. Her sire is the famous Gable Sour Cream and her dam is Flying Unrest. Amy LOVES people and attention. She also loves other dogs and wants to cuddle with other dogs on their beds. She has no sense of personal space and wants to be as close as possible to snuggle. She likes to be with her humans and is quiet during the day just hanging out where she can see people. She is learning to play fetch and loves running around in the yard with her housemates.  She goes in her crate willingly to eat her meals and likes to lay in her crate with the door open. She does make noise in the crate when the door is closed, so would not be a good apartment dog. She does well with her potty training during the day, but does still have accidents if left out of the crate all night, so needs some more work. Her owner thinks she may do best in a home with other dogs since she loves being around them and playing with them so much. Although Amy is friendly towards kids she meets and seems to like them, we need to place Amy in a home with no kids. She snapped at a child over a bowl of cereal after being placed with a young kid in her first home. So now she is looking for another home with no small kids. Amy's foster home says she is their favorite foster and she is just perfectly behaved. They would keep her if they could.

Luna is coming to us from the track adoption kennel in Jacksonville Florida. She was returned to them by her family through no fault of her own. They have a 3 year old child and a 7 month old baby and just found out they are expecting a third child. They didn't feel like they had enough time to devote to Luna anymore and wanted her to have a family that can give her the time and attention she deserves. Luna initially raced just 20 races at Derby Lane in Florida. She retired in January of 2015 and was initially placed by GPA Tampa Bay. She has been in her home since then. Luna was born on March 12th of 2012 so is 8 years old and as a senior qualifies for the reduced adoption fee of $250. Luna is great with kids and has been living with a 3 year old and a 7 month old. She is also great with all dogs and people and loves everyone she meets. She is very loving and loves attention. She is afraid of thunderstorms and she needs a home with no cats. Her sire is Blaze N Toddie and her dam is Ruby Is The Best. More as we get to know this sweet girl.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Wicker family of Columbia SC, 7.10.20

Eddie just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He only raced 2 races and was retired young. He raced at just 66lbs so is a pretty small for a male. Eddie just turned 2 on May 12th. His sire is Superior Panama and his dam is Kelso's Evita. Eddie is a sweet guy, but is a bit nervous and overwhelmed so far with all the changes going from racing to be a pet. He seemed too stressed to have any interest in the cat or the small dog and didn't seem to even notice they were there. His track trainer says he is not a shy boy and should come around fast. Just needs a little time to adjust to everything new.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Monaghan family of Columbia SC, 7.3.20

Bowsta was turned over to a Columbia Animal Shelter by his former family. All we know is that he was called Bowsta and that this family had him since he was very young. We checked his tattoos, which were hard to read, but it looks like he is most likely Craigie Bowie. Bowsta raced just 2 races at the Palm Beach Race Track and looks like he was adopted from there, because he does have a microchip linking him to that area. He retired from there August 3rd of 2009 so probably has been in a home since before he was 2 years old. He was born on Nov 1st of 2007 so will turn 13 on November 1st of this year. Because Bowsta is a senior he qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. His sire is the famous Trent Lee and his dam is Craigie Bouquet. Bowsta is thin for a greyhound so needs to put on a few lbs. He has a very furry coat that looks like he may have lived outside recently. Bowsta is neutered already. His teeth look pretty good for his age but will have a fresh cleaning and will have any bad teeth removed before placement. He will be up to date on all shots and have bloodwork done to be sure he is healthy. More as we get to know him.

Bohemia came in from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She ran at few schooling races but never actually did well enough to have an official race. Behemia arrived with her sister Easi Tecate and we already placed another sister about a month ago named Easi Sol. Behemia's sire is the famous Trent Lee and her dam is Easi Bandit. She will turn 2 on August 9th. Bohemia is 60lbs. She is a sweet girl that was actually a little afraid of the small dog and cat. She didn't want to look at them and jumped away when approached by either. After a little while she took a quick sniff but definitely didn't want to chase either of them.
