Pixie is a tiny older girl that raced at 56lbs and was a very thin 52lbs when she arrived. She is one of the oldest dogs we have ever taken in and will turn 13 on August 11th. Pixie's family originally adopted her from another group out of the area. They are moving now and are unable to take her with them. She was very fragile and had a constant tremor that made her whole body shake when she was on her feet. Pixie also has a bad limp. We had it x-rayed and it appears to be the result of arthritis in an old injury. Our vet noticed that she was being given 4 times the pain medication she should have been getting. That big of a dose was causing a lot of the trembling and by putting her back on the correct dose a lot of her shaking has gone away and she is able to run and play a little now and is much less fragile in just a couple of weeks. She did have a bad fall down some stairs a few years ago and that was when she started the medication and probably why she limps. Pixie's blood work looked good for a girl her age and she even has good teeth. She is on inexpensive thyroid medication and her levels are perfect. As of her last vet check she has gained 3 lbs and looks much better than when she arrived. Our vet is very pleased with her progress and has cleared her for adoption. Pixie is a very calm, laid back, girl, that seems friendly and good natured. She lets complete strangers lift her in and out of vehicles and just stood there when the vet drew blood without yelping or flinching. She has lived with cats and small dogs and is good with them. Back in her day Pixie was a star racer and won top A level races and even competed in special stakes races. She raced most of her career at Daytona Beach but also raced a few races in Wichita. Pixie has 130 races to her credit. She was retired to be a brood mom and had one litter of 7 puppies in April of 2006 before becoming a pet. Her sire is Quiet Traveler and her dam is Shoot Fortheloot. This is a super sweet girl that is looking for a family that will love her for the rest of her life. Because Pixie is a senior she qualifies for a reduced adoption fee and some generous donors have offered to help with that.

Delta just arrived from the Melborne Race Track adoption kennel. She raced 34 races in Orlando FL before she broke her leg on November 28th 2014, She also raced about half of her races at Derby Lane in Florida. Her leg was operated on at the track on December 1st and she was moved to the Melbourne Track Adoption Kennel to complete her rehab. Her surgery was a success and the bone healed up completely already. When she arrived some of the wire and pins had broken and worked their way through the skin so she had to have all the hardware removed at the end of February. She is all healed up now and ready to be adopted. She is putting weight on the leg and walking much better since having the hardware removed. Our vet that took out the hardware says the knee looks great and has good range of motion. Delta isn't able to do really long walks or hikes yet but does like to go for shorter walks and will work up to longer walks as her leg gets stronger. She is expected to make a full recovery and will be able to run and play normally. Delta was too interested in the cat to be able to live with cats. She is fine with small dogs. Her sire is Red Ranger and her dam is SE's Racen Rainy. Delta is a calm girl that walks nicely on leash. She goes right up to people and is very sweet and friendly. Delta is a very good girl with some quirkiness. She loves her crate and insists on having a crate to sleep in even if the door is open. Her other quirk is that she waits for an escort in the house. She will just stand at the door with the door open and waits to be led in. What a gorgeous girl! Those eyes!

Andrew just arrived from the Derby Lane Race Track in Florida. He is an XL red male that raced at 85lbs. He raced 64 races and a lot of them were at the top A level so he was pretty good. Andrew's sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey. His dam is Deco Caraways who we actually adopted out. We also placed two of Andrew's sisters Vale of Arryn and Riverrun. Andrew is a very friendly, social guy that loves people. He is playful but only in short spurts, and is a lower energy, calm guy. In spite of his XL size, Andrew walks great on leash.  He passed his cat and small dog tests easily. He is very well behaved in the house in and out of the crate when people are home with him. He is a Houdini when left alone in a crate though and can get out of the typical metal crate. He will need a plastic vari kennel (airline crate) that is more escape proof than the typical wire crates when he goes to an adoptive home. Andrew probably would not do well in an apartment because he has been a little noisy when left alone. Andrew would love to find a family that was home most of the time.

Will is a 73lb mostly white boy with one blue brindle spot on his face and golden eyes. He is has 83 races to his credit and was very good getting up to AA level at Tri-State before being moved to Sanford Orlando to race. Will's sire is Kelsos Fusileer and his dam is Bobby's Blanket. He is described as the happiest boy ever by his trainer. She says he loves cuddles and attention. He turned 4 on April 11th. He did very well on the trip up to the vets and got along well with all the other dogs in a crowded situation. He was pretty good on leash and didn't pull much. He did seem calm and well behaved. He didn't pay much attention to the small dogs at the vet clinic or in his foster home. He also passed his cat test. He politely sniffed the cats and couldn't figure out why they popped him on the nose and weren't friendly with him. So he should be able to live with cats or small dogs. Will did complain loudly about being in his kennel when he first arrived so may not be the best dog for an apartment or townhouse.

Although the two brothers look very much alike Luke is a little darker red brindle than his brother. He won't turn 4 until November 20th. His sire is Kelsos Fusileer and his dam is Pam Ford. We also placed another son of Pam Ford's named Bioelectric. Luke passed his cat test and has been good with the small dog that he met, he didn't even try to chase ducks that came into the backyard. He was a little overwhelmed when he first arrived and is the more timid of the two brothers. Luke does warm up pretty fast and follows his foster parents around and plays with toys after just a few days. He sleeps next to his foster's bed and stays asleep all night. He walks great on leash too. Luke is a sweet loveable guy that is very affectionate when he warms up. He has been quiet in his crate so may be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living.

He is a big traveler, racing at Southland in Arkansas, Dubuque, Naples Ft Myers, Ebro and finally Birmingham Al. He was never really a great racer but raced well enough to have a long career and did win some races and placed often. Rocky has 177 races to his credit. His sire is the very famous Lonesome Cry and his Dam is Kelsos Peach. He turned 5 on Nov 13th. We placed one of his littermates PG Up My Dough a year or two ago! Rocky did not pass his cat test so needs a home with no kitties but he did do fine with small dogs he met. He came in with a few rub marks on his face from his muzzle but they are better and we need to get new pictures. His foster home says Rocky is a calm, well behaved boy and acts like he has always lived in a home. No issues settling in with their other greyhounds and he picked up house manners right away. He is a great boy! Very friendly and sweet too. He seems like he will be an easy first greyhound. He has been quiet in his foster home so may be OK for townhouse or apartment living.

Hammer is white with gorgeous dark red spots. The color in his pictures doesn't show how red he is. His sire is Rico's Vintage and his dam is Rico's Pigathius. He raced 28 races at Tri State and Wheeling in WV and them went to Birmingham AL. Hammer was very friendly on the trip and goes up to everyone he meets wagging and asking to be petted. He is calm and seems very well behaved. At the kennel he did great with other boys in the turn out pens and is very friendly when meeting other dogs on leash. Hammer was protective of his space when laying down with dogs he didn't know at first but he has gotten much better now that he knows the dogs and has been corrected a few times for it. He enjoys traveling and gets in a vehicle and lays down. Because he has shown some grumpiness when laying down, we think he needs a home with no kids or maybe teenagers that will understand not to bother him when he is laying down or sleeping. Hammer did pass his cat and small dog test.

He needs some work on leash walking because he pulls and is strong but is already getting better. Shakira just arrived. She is a tiny 50lb girl that is an unusual blue brindle color. As tiny as she is, she raced 106 races and did pretty well getting up to the top A level. Her racing owner just decided to retire her even though she was racing well. Her last race was an A level race. Her sire is Speedy Trent and her dam is CTW Trivia. Shakira is 3 years old and will turn 4 on June 9th. She is pretty timid at first in new situations and places. She will shiver some and pull to get away on leash sometimes when walking in new places. Her shyness seems to be situational and not toward people though. She likes people and will stay close to her foster mom and follow her around. Very very sweet and friendly. She is not timid with other dogs at all and can be pretty bossy. She did pass her cat test and her small dog test. She plays nicely with other dogs outside and enjoys their company. She was a little growly with all the new dogs in her foster home at first but has calmed down and will share her beds and space with her housemates after the first week so it seems like she only has space issues right at first with dogs she doesn't know. The only place she is protective of is her crate and will growl when other dogs come by it, silly girl. Shakira hasn't had any accidents in her kennel so far. After the first night, she has been very quiet in her kennel so would probably be a good dog for an apartment. She seems to do OK when left alone so should be fine as an only dog. Cute girl with such a puppy face! And so tiny!

Edge is a 78lb, red, brindle boy. He just arrived from the Melbourne Race Track Adoption Kennel but he actually did all of his 56 races at Daytona Beach. He just won 6 of his races and placed in more but wasn't really good. Edge's sire is Kiowa WW Brother and his dam is Kiowa Sharp Cay. He turns 3 on May 17th. He is a very calm boy that is a little shy at first but does warm up with time. Edge was pretty overwhelmed when he first arrived and didn't want to come out of his kennel so he is definitely a timid guy that will need some time to gain confidence. He did pass his cat and small dog tests at the track so should be fine to live with either. More as we get to know him.

Smoke is arriving from the Melbourne race track. He was a good racer that raced 179 races mostly at Bluffs Run but also at Dubuque, Mardi Gras and Sanford Orlando before retired from Melbourne. He raced at the top A level at most of those tracks. Because he was a good racer he raced for a long time and just turned 5 on March 6th. He is a mid sized guy racing at 73lbs. Smokes sire is the very famous Flying Penske and his dam is Barts Cutie Pie. Smoke passed his cat and small dog test. Smoke travels well and just got in the van and laid down on the trip up. He is quiet in his crate so might make a good apartment dog. We were told he could be pretty shy but he has been cautiously friendly with us since he arrived. He is calm and will give a slow wag while staring up into your eyes waiting to be petted. Very nice boy with cute ears that stand straight up. He does like his crate and feels safe there so will choose to stay there with the door open until he gets comfortable enough to come out. He does like to lean on people and give hugs.

Joy turns 3 on July 6th. Her sire is Turbo Penske and her dam is AMF Herself. Joy raced at 61lbs. She is a very friendly sweet girl that won the hearts of all of our volunteers at a recent track visit. This girl is a really really sweet girl with a lot of personality. She passed her cat test at the track with just a little interest at first but easily corrected and lost interest quickly so we think she will be OK in a home with cats with supervision at first. He also raced at Ebro, Sarasota, Naples Ft Myers and Wheeling Downs in WV. He raced 90 races but only won 5 of those. Cash is a sweet boy that we met at the track adoption kennel on a recent visit. He seemed like a calm friendly guy. Pascal is 3 now and won't turn 4 until November 27th. His sire is BD Phillips and his dam is CTW Veronica. Cash raced at 71lbs so is a mid sized guy. He was retired due to a broken hock. It his healed now and he still has a limp but is getting better every day.

Dusty is a senior gentleman who will turn 10 on August 10th. He really isn't all that big and raced at 75lbs. His sire is My Zapper and his dam is Kelley Dunn. Dusty raced the last time in September of 2009 and had a long career racing 120 races mostly in Birmingham AL. Dusty has had a string of bad luck though. He retired and was adopted first by a family that let him get into horrible condition and eventually returned him to the adoption kennel about 20lbs under weight. He was so thin that they weren't sure he would survive when they got him. The adoption staff at the track kennel spent months nursing him back to health and one of them ended up adopting him. Now, his most recent family is forced to give Dusty and their other greyhounds up because of more bad luck. He is a well behaved boy that is great with cats and small dogs and other dogs of all sizes male and female. He is so well behaved that he hasn't been crated in years and is a great house dog. He doesn't have accidents in his house. Dusty would be a great addition for a first time greyhound owner or someone that wants to add to their pack. Because Dusty is an older guy he has a reduced adoption fee of $200. He has had a checkup, shots and a fresh dental and is ready for his new life to begin. Dusty does have one corn on one toe that causes him to limp a bit on hard surfaces otherwise he seems healthy and he is so so sweet.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Price Family of Myrtle Beach SC 3/29/15

Toni is a pup that came straight from the farm and never went to the race track. She just turned one on October 8th so is still very young. She is small and weighed 54lbs at her vet check. She never raced because of an injury on the farm. Another dog attacked her and removed most of the skin between her tail and hipbones in September. The wound was too large to stitch so had to heal up on its own slowly. The injury is mainly cosmetic and doesn't affect her ability to run or play. She will just have a large scar. Toni couldn't go off to race training with a big open wound so her owners held onto her for a couple of months to get her to the point that she could be transported to us from Kansas in November of 2014. Toni never completed the registration process and never got a racing name. She has been called Toni since a pup though. Her sire is the very famous Lonesome Cry and her dam is Toni Works. Toni passed her cat and small dog tests and has been living in a foster home with an Italian Greyhound. She is a very good jumper and has been known to clear fences so needs a home with a 6 foot fence. Toni is calm in the house but loves doing laps and playing outside every time she goes outside to potty so she really needs a fenced yard to play in. She is a natural sitter. She crates well and is mostly quiet except at meal times when she whines some. Toni is not a confident girl and tends to be timid and jumpy. There is construction going on at her foster home and the noise of that scares her. She will take awhile to warm up to a new situation but once she warms up she is a friendly, silly, happy girl. She is likely to be pretty nervous at first when she is adopted and goes to a new home. She loves people and approaches most people wagging indoors, but sometimes outside she still is a bit timid and runs around just out of reach for a few moments until she gets her courage up to approach.

UPDATE 1/15/15: Toni went to our vet to have her spay and we had our vet do some reconstructive surgery on Toni's back to make it look better while she had her under. The reconstructive surgery was not successful. The good skin would not attach to the scar tissue and eventually sloughed off leaving another big open wound. So that meant more healing time for Toni.

UPDATE 3/4/15: Toni is finally nearly healed up and just about ready for adoption! Through her treatment Toni has been happy and acts like nothing is wrong. She continues her daily runs in the yard and doesn't even flinch when we put medicine on her wound. We really love this sweet girl!

Reverend is a smaller brindle male that raced at 69lbs. He is a young guy that won't turn 2 until April 3rd. His sire is Lonesome Cry and his dam is CTW Lorraine. He needs a home without cats but hasn't shown any interest in small dogs whatsoever so should be fine living with them. Reverend only raced 4 races but didn't win any of them. He is being retired early because his kennel is closing. So far he is a very calm boy for one so young. He has a beautiful, red coat with a few brindle stripes. Very Stunning! Reverend was happy to stand quietly and let people pet him his first time out in public, but didn't go up to many people on his own seeking out attention. He was just a little reserved but seems like the type that will warm up fast and loves attention because he didn't shy away from anyone. He has done well in his foster home.  Update from his foster mom! Reverend is settling in nicely and learning the rules about being in a home.  He always prefers to be inside with the humans, but will go outside in the backyard for a walk around when he needs to.  He quickly chooses a dog bed and rests with the other hounds but will be the first to jump up and check out anything new and exciting that might happen.  He sleeps quietly all night long in his crate.  During the day, he will complain a little when crated so probably won't be the best option for an apartment or condo with owners who are gone all day.  He doesn't seem to rely on the other dogs in the home though, which means that he could probably be comfortable as the only large pet in the home.  No indoor accidents so far either in the home or his crate.  Reverend is very young, and that means that everything is new, different, and worth investigating.  He's going to be a really nice dog for a family who understands he needs a little time and training in basic commands.  Give him a chance to stand quietly next to you for attention and you may be in love with this adorable boy!!

If you like big dogs Tuesday is your boy! He is a huge 84lb greyhound that is 4 years old. He was a good racer that we knew from kennel visits years ago when he first started racing at Sanford Orlando. He was such a big, happy, friendly, boy that we loved him the minute that we saw him, everyone did. He was a good racer that wasn't close to retiring then though. We were thrilled when he retired from Melbourne recently and he popped back up. He raced 156 races and also raced briefly at Sarasota. Tuesday is a very friendly boy with a great personality. He is pretty calm though. He will celebrate his 5th birthday on September 1st. Tuesday was pretty interested in chasing cats so needs a home with out them but did fine with the small dogs he has met. He has a little bit of white ticking on his back that looks a bit like snow. Tuesday's sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and his dam is Truly Julie.

Shortie raced 70 races at the Birmingham race track. She was racing at the top A level when she retired. Her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Gable Brahma. Shortie has very interesting coloring that we have only seen one time before. She is listed as a red brindle but only has stripes on one side of her. She is all red on the other side. Shortie was not interested in the cat at all when she met it and was more afraid of it than anything. She also did fine with small dogs she met. She is a very friendly, outgoing girl that raced at 61lbs and turned 2 on November 25th. She was a little scared of the shiny wood floors at first and slipped around a lot. She travels really well and laid down and went to sleep in the van right away. Shortie arrived in the middle of the night and went straight into a crate, ate her dinner and went to sleep and never made a peep the rest of the night. So she seems very adaptable and may be a good choice for an apartment or townhome. Shortie seems like a calm laid back girl.

Lenny was a good racer quickly getting up to the top A level and winning lots of races there. He raced at 73lbs. His sire is Maryville Rumble* and his dam is Kiowa Surfingirl. Lenny passed his cat and small dog test so should be fine to live with either. They told us that Lenny can be a little timid at first but he was wagging his tail and going up to people for love when we picked him up from the hauler and at the vet's office so it doesn't take him long to warm up at all. He likes people and seems like he is going to be a very friendly loving guy. He is doing really well in foster care.

Lenny had a small growth on one of his legs that our vet removed and sent out for testing that came back as a soft tissue sarcoma, a slow growing form of cancer. This type of cancer usually responds quite well to chemo injections and usually goes into remission. Our vet has high hopes for Lenny making a complete recovery after a few more treatments. Lenny has handled the treatments well and will be on long term chemo pills for awhile. Thanks to some very generous donors Lenny's cancer treatment and medicine is taken care of and most of his adoption fee too!! Aunt Bea is a sweet, 6 year old black girl that had quite the racing career before becoming a mom. Now she is retired from mom duties and ready to find a couch. Aunt Bea raced 101 races mostly at the top levels and competed and placed in several Stakes races that are reserved for the best racers at each track. She was very much a star at the track. Aunt Bea started out racing in Palm Beach, then moved to Mardi Gras in Hollywood FL, Dubuque Iowa, Wheeling WV, then back to Palm Beach, Mardi Gras and Southland in Arkansas. Her racing career ended when she broke her leg on September 11th of 2011. She went back to her owner's farm to recover and to be a mom. She has one litter of pups that are racing age already so whatever lucky family adopts Aunt Bea can keep up with her pups careers as well. Aunt Bea just arrived from the Birmingham AL adoption kennel where she has been a favorite with the staff. They even took her home with them at night. Her old break still causes her to limp but it is long healed. Because of the old break she won't be able to do long hikes but she really enjoys going for walks around the neighborhood with you. She loves to go for car rides too. She is calm and friendly and seems to love people. She can run and play and her bad leg doesn't really slow her down much. She did pass her cat and small dog tests so should be fine in a home with either. She is a beautiful shiny black girl with barely any white on her face so looks even younger than 6 years old.

Greta is a special girl that came in after getting very sick at the race track. They pulled her out of racing and rushed her to the vet where they found that she had tick paralysis caused by a single tick bite. She was treated at the vet there and someone from the track drove her to us, two states away that very day to avoid having her go back into the kennel. She has recovered well from the tick paralysis but it turned out that she is also heartworm positive so is undergoing treatment for that now. Her foster home decided to keep her and the say she is the sweetest most snuggly girl ever. Greta's sire is BF Overdrive and her dam is BF Amazing Grace. She only has 19 races listed so had a very short career.

Lefty is a 61lb red fawn girl that raced at Orange Park in Jacksonville Florida and Sanford Orlando. She was a pretty good racer getting up to A level but broke her leg in her last race and was retired. She had surgery done on her leg on October 2nd and stayed at the track in Orlando for a month until the vet cleared her for travel. She arrived with our adoption group Nov 1st. Lefty was in a splint for some time after she arrived. She is out of the splint now and is doing very well so the vet has released her for adoption! Lefty's sire is Count Ivan and her dam is SE's We Goin Too. She turned 3 on December 18th. Lefty is a very sweet affectionate girl. She passed her cat and small dog test so should be fine to live with either. She has been around a toddler and seems to like kids too. She is a playful silly girl that we think would make an excellent family dog. She can be vocal when excited so we don't think she would make a good apartment or townhouse dog.

If you are able to help us out with Lefty's expensive surgical repair please go to our Injured Athlete Page. Your generosity allows us to take more injured dogs and get them fixed.

Neville is a tiny black boy with a white chest and toes that raced at just 64lbs. In that tiny body is a lot of personality and a super star racer! He came from the Birmingham Race Track where he consistantly was a winner at the top A level and was quite the racing celebrity. He also raced some of his 171 races at Tri State in WV. He won 45 of those races! And he placed in most of the others! He even won 6 "A" races in a row against all the top racers at that track! Neville retired in June and has been at the track since, waiting to be adopted. Neville just turned 4 on Nov 12th. He has had mixed results with cats, when he first meets new cats he is way too excited but after being around them for awhile he looses interest and is fine with some cats. We had him listed as trainable with cats but changed it to no cats because he varies so much from cat to cat and test to test. Neville did pass his test with small dogs. He is being fostered in a home with small dogs so he is used to being around them. His sire is Igoby Brady and his dam is WWG Torriewilson. Neville is a bouncy, happy boy that is friendly and fun. His foster home says that he is one of the happiest fosters they have had. He is full of personality and is a very funny, goofy guy. Everything makes him happy and he even drinks water with his tail wagging. He seems like he is a little higher energy than the typical very lazy couch potato greyhounds. He loves to play with toys and seems like he will be an excellent family dog. He is excellent with company and meeting new people makes him very happy. He does great out in public and loves going places and exploring his environment. He is a very curious, sweet boy that will do well in just about any situation. He doesn't seem to be worried about much of anything.

Jimmy is a handsome black male that raced at 75lbs. He just retired from the Birmingham Race Track due to playing with other dogs during the race instead of concentrating on what he was supposed to do. He raced 46 races. He will turn 3 on March 29th. His sire is Kiowa WW Brother and his dam is Doctor Elliott. Jimmy did not pass his cat test because he was much too interested in playing with them, but did easily pass his small dog test. He is living with a couple of small dogs in his foster home and does great with them. Jimmy is a sweet, friendly guy that is doing great in foster care. He has the cutest little head tilt when he is listening to something. This handsome boy loves people and is going to make a great pet!
