Adoption Status: Adopted by the Chinn family of Simpsonville SC, 5.16.20

Pin just arrived from the Daytona Beach Race Track that is closing at the end of March. She raced only 18 races there and never won one of them. She is a tiny girl that weighs just 55lbs. She is mostly black with a white blaze on her face and white feet and chest. Pin turned 2 on November 13th. Her sire is Pat C Clement and her dam is PJ Wicked. Pin is a friendly girl that seemed to handle all the new things in retirement very well. Pin was vetted in Salisbury and is ready to be adopted. Pin is an active girl that hasn't outgrown the chewing phase yet so will need supervision and training on what is OK to chew and what is not. She walks great on leash. Pin can be loud in her crate so wouldn't be a good apartment dog. She does have a pretty high prey drive so needs a home with no cats. She is being fostered with some small dogs and is mostly fine with them, she just has no idea where her feet are, and tends to trample the little dogs when she gets excited. She does great with slightly larger dogs that aren't as fragile though. She is a very sweet girl with a friendly happy personality. She likes being around other dogs and probably would prefer a home with other large dogs.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Nash Family of Greenville SC, 5.10.20

Sol just arrived from Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She is a tiny girl that weighed just 50lbs at the vet. She never actually raced. She is a young girl that won't turn 2 until August 9th. Her sire is the famous Trent Lee and her dam is Easi Bandit. Sol is very sweet, and playful and still acts like a puppy. Her response to meeting a fluffy white dog was to crouch down and crawl along the ground in a submissive puppy posture. Sol also passed her cat test with just some curious sniffing before she lost interest. Sol was a little unsure of everything new in her foster home at first and would pace around the house before finally laying down. Sol was jumpy about loud household noises at first. She seemed to prefer to be around other greyhounds so may do best with another greyhound for company. She loves toys and loves going for a run in the yard after going potty. She was vetted at Clinton Animal Hospital.

Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Fostered by (location):
Johnson Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Johnson Palmer family of Greenville SC, 5/6/20

Chunky Monkey is one of a litter of pups that was born after we got a pregnant female from the Birmingham race track named She'sLikeNoOther (Beauty). We are not sure how she got knocked up but they think it happened when she was moved from a track in Florida to Birmingham in January and they think the dad was Apology Excepted because he was her traveling companion. We got her in February when she started showing. She had 6 healthy pups on March 4th. Chunky weighed 1lb 2oz when he was born and 18.7lbs at 9 weeks old when he was adopted. All the pups are friendly and social and were raised using the Puppy Culture Protocol. They all know to sit for food and treats and are trained to use a litterbox. Most of them will also potty on leash. The pups have been around kids and toddlers since birth so are very used to children. They also lived with a small dogs and have been introduced to cats. All the pups were introduced to a variety of people of different ages and sizes and have been well socialized to people and things they may come in contact with in the home environment. Greyhound puppies are not like the calm adult greyhounds we love. They are very high energy when young and need large fenced yards to run and play in to build strong bones and muscles. They need complete supervision like a toddler because everything goes in their mouth and gets chewed or eaten. They can be very destructive if their energy isn't drained through play and acceptable forms of exercise. Greyhound puppies are like any other puppy when small, but they quickly grow to full size and may weigh 50 to 80lbs by 8 months old. At that age they can run around 40 mph but are still huge clumsy pups. Greyhound puppies bite and play very rough. They require a lot of training and need experienced homes with room to run.

LN Chili Dog (Chilli) - New arrival from the Daytona Beach Track Closing out of Waverider Kennel. Chilli is a very shy, tiny, 2-year-old red girl who raced at just 52 lbs. She passed her cat test with only a brief initial sniff. Chilli only raced 20 races before the track closed and only manage to win 3 of them. She is a dog who will need time and patience to learn to trust a new person and may never be comfortable with a lot of new people or changes in her life. Spooky dogs often have a genetic basis to their temperament and are usually born that way. Like human's, they vary in personality, even in the same litter. Her littermate LN Bible Belt who arrived with her is friendly and not shy at all. He was raised in the same environment and raced in the same kennel. This litter was named for John Mellencamp's song Jack and Diane. Her sire is Boc's Tony Romo and her dam is DK's Leapinlizzy. Chili has been vetted at Clinton Animal Hospital. Maddie came to us because of the recent kennel and track closings in Florida. Her kennel shut down due to the Corona Virus. Her racing owner got her and several other dogs back to her house and got them vetted for us so we could place her. She raced 27 races at Orange Park in Jacksonville FL. Maddie only won 3 races in her career. She is a small brindle female that raced at 58lbs. Maddie will turn 3 on September 19th. Her sire is Eyes Loaded and her dam is CTW Flirtatious. We places some other pups by that sire and dam and they are great pets. Maddie is very affectionate and sweet but is just a little overwhelmed and timid about new things for the first few days. She seems to gain confidence from being around other dogs so probably would do best in a home with another large dog or greyhound. She likes being beside people. Maddie is quiet and walks well on leash without pulling. She loves laying outside in the the sunshine. Maddy has shown some interest in cats from a distance but backs away and acts afraid of them if they get close, so we think she is trainable with cats. She is in a foster home with cats so she can get used to being around them. More as we get to know her.

She walks well on leash without pulling. She loves squeaky toys. Addy is the more outgoing and fearless of the two girls. At first we thought she would be cat trainable with the cats because she backed away from them but she got more excitable about them as time went on. So now we think she needs a home with no cats.

He had a long career of 171 races. AJ also raced briefly at Palm Beach. He raced mainly at the lower levels but did get up to the top A level briefly and even competed in a big Stakes race. Frivolous is arriving soon from the Bolton Kennel at the closed Sanford Orlando Track. The track closed down permanently due to the Corona Virus. She also raced at Naples Ft Myers and Dubuque briefly. She raced 37 races and was pretty good getting up to the top A level. She was at B level when her career was cut short by the closing. Frivolous is a 66lb red female that will turn 3 on August 14th. Her sire is Dyna Double One and her dam is PJ Never Ask Why. We also placed her littermate Smote recently. Frivolous is very much like her brother, she is high energy and a lot of fun. She is not afraid of anything. Taught herself the stairs right away. She crates well but can be a bit wild when she first comes out. She needs a lot of training and work on walking nicely on leash. She does potty on leash though and is very food motivated. She will need a home with dog experience that will be willing to work with her and do some obedience with her. Her foster home described her as a little 'simple' but adorable. She loves everyone and tries to stand up to give hugs and will put her paws on your shoulders. Her foster family decided to keep her pretty much as soon as they met her.

He is a very smart boy and seemed to know when his trainer was down and would give gentle hugs and rest his head on her. Brushy has been excellent with the toddlers in his foster home. He is fine with the small dogs he was around but definitely needs a home with no kitties. Just too interested in chasing cats to be able to live with them. He is a very friendly happy guy.

Betty mainly was competitive at the lower C and D levels. She mainly placed and only won 9 of her 93 races. Betty is a pretty black female that raced at 65lbs. She just turned 3 years old on March 12th. Her sire is the famous Pat C Clement and her dam is WW Lonesome Dove. Betty is a friendly girl. She passed her cat test easily and even was even fine with a chinchilla so has an exceptionally low prey drive. Betty walks great on leash. She has cute floppy ears one that usually flips forward and one that flips to the back. She has had a bit of a bad hair day recently and the vet had to shave a patch on her back due to a wound, but it will grow back. His sire is Flare Gun and his dam is Oaks Mean Madina. Snakefoot moved right into foster care and made himself at home. Once he sees something the first time (stairs, new crate) he figured it out and had it down. Snakefoot potties nicely on leash so may do well without a fence yard. He was quiet all night the first night in his crate so may make a good apartment dog. Snakefoot is a wonderful guy that will be an easy addition to just about any home. Smote just retired from the Bolton Kennel at the Orange Park Race Track. He was raised at the Plum Creek Farm. Smote only raced 14 races. He got bumped in a race and was injured in July of 2019. He took time off to heal up and started racing again in October. Smote raced a few more races and even won one of those. In his last race in October he re-injured himself. He was rehabbed. He started running in some schooling (practice) races after he was healed up. He kept getting sore after his schooling sessions so they decided to retire him. Smote shows no sign of any injury. He is very large and very strong and excitable. Because he is so excitable and curious about everything, he pulls on leash and tries to go check out everything at once. He gets so happy to see you he bounces around and may jump up on you. He is a big boy racing at 84lbs and is incredibly strong. Because of his enthusiastic greetings he would not do well with toddlers, small kids or elderly people that may not be steady on their feet. He seems like a big goofy guy that would never intentionally hurt anyone but might just because he has no idea how big he is. He seems friendly and sweet and isn't intending to do the wrong thing, but is very active for a greyhound and definitely needs a strong leader that will set rules and teach him how to be calm and mannerly. Smotes sire is Dyna Double One and his dam is PJ Never Ask Why. Smote is very excitable and was pretty excited to see cats and small dogs but quickly focused on other things too. We just weren't able to get a good reading on him so need to do more testing with him before deciding if he would be able to live with either. More as we get to know him.

Her sire is the famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Easi Key. Flossie passed her cat test with just some initial sniffing, then lost interest in the cat even though the cat still wanted to interact with her more. Special Senior! Fitz initially came in from Derby Lane in Florida. He is a big guy that raced at 82lbs. His sire is Group Rooster and his Dam is Cool Princess. Fitz's will turn 10 on May 2nd and has been in his adoptive home since November of 2012. His family adopted his brother Oneco Kennedy - Ned when he retired in 2014 too. Both dogs are being returned to us because their family has a 1 year old child and doesn't have time to exercise and supervise the dogs now. Now that the baby is mobile, it has become annoying to the dogs and it has been growled at. Although Fitz is normally friendly and happy around kids, he would prefer a home without small kids that might crawl on him or fall on him. Fitz is a very loving boy that settled right into foster care initially without any problems at all. His foster dad thought he would be a great dog for a first time greyhound owner because he was so good and such an easy dog. He gives little kisses and of the two brothers is the more laid back and less needy of the two. Fitz is a gentle giant. He crates nicely and is quiet in his crate so might do OK in an apartment or townhome. He does stairs very well too. Fitz is a great guy that passed his cat and small dog tests so should be able to live with either but we will retest when he arrives to be sure since he hasn't been living with either. The photos of him were from when he first arrived so we will get pictures and complete vetting done once he arrives. Because Fitz is a senior he qualifies for our reduced adoption donation of $250.

Special Senior! Ned initially came in from the Darcy Kennel at Derby Lane. His sire is Group Rooster and his dam is Cool Princess. Ned raced 127 races at Derby Lane and was a pretty big deal as a racer. He raced in big Stakes races and came in 2nd in several of those. He raced at 74lbs so is a mid sized male. Ned was adopted in January of 2014 and has been with his family since then. They also adopted his brother Fitz, who is also being returned. Ned will turn 10 on May 2nd. He passed his cat and small dog tests when he arrived so should be fine to live with either, but he will be retested once he is returned to us. Ned is being returned with his brother Oneco Fitzgerald because his family has a 1 year old child and doesn't have time to supervise and exercise the dogs anymore, which is causing behavior problems. The one year old child is mobile now and has become annoying to the dogs, so has been growled at. Although Ned normally like kids, and is very friendly with them, he would prefer to live in a home with no small kids. Ned is very outgoing and happy and that made him a kennel favorite at the race track. He is the more needy and playful of the two brothers. Ned is also a very smart guy that is a bit of a houdini. He figured out how to get out of a regular metal crate in foster care when he first arrived. We said then that he would require a plastic vari kennel that he can't escape from when potty training and manners training in a new home. This photo is from when Ned was at the track. We will get new photos when he is back with us as well as have him freshly vetted. Because Ned is a senior, he qualifies for the reduced adoption donation of $250. Houdini passed her cat test easily with just a very quick sniff then showed no interest in approaching again. Houdini is a pretty chill girl that is calm and well behaved. She is used to being around the kids of her trainer so should be fine to live with children. Houdini was vetted at Clinton Animal Hospital

Baby just arrived from the Sanford Orlando Track Closing. She also raced some of her 64 races at Flagler and Naples Ft Myers tracks. We also placed her littermates ElementofSurpriz and Live Streaming so are excited to get Baby as well. She is a small black female that raced at 58lbs. Baby will turn 3 on July 14th. Her sire is Pat C Sabbath and her dam is Livin Ona Prayer. Baby was a little interested in the cat to begin with, but just sniffed and was easy to redirect. She decided the cat wasn't something to mess with after the cat slapped her. We think she should be very cat trainable with supervision. She did fine with the small dogs in her foster home so should be able to live with them. She seems like a friendly girl that is really sweet. Baby was vetted at Oasis Animal Hospital in Mauldin.

Lavato is a gorgeous black female that just arrive from Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She was raised at the Plum Creek farm. Lavato raced at 60lbs and will turn 3 on April 16th. Lavato raced 57 races in Orlando and got up to the top A level. She sprained her ankle in September and was off until January to heal up. She went back to racing and even won a race since then but in her last race on Feb 21st she jammed the same ankle again so was retired. She is healed up and is not limping now. Because she has had a couple of injuries to that ankle, she wouldn't be a candidate for doing dog sports like agility. She is fine for walks and hikes and playing in the yard though. Lavato is a very very outgoing girl. She is very waggy and wiggly and is very happy to see people and loves everyone she meets. Her foster home says she is a total love and is very silly. Lavato is the most outgoing and forward greyhound she has ever met. She seems like she can be a bit bossy with other dogs, so may do better with a more submissive housemate that is more of a follower. Lavato loves stuffed animals and likes to carry them around. Her sire is Top Of The Pile and her dam is World Of My Own. Lavato passed her small dog test and backed away after a cautious sniff. She showed no interest in even approaching the cats so she should be fine to live with either. She is full of personality and will make some lucky family a fun pet.

Gracie just arrived from the farm in Kansas that she retired to after a long career of 103 races. She was a very good racer that raced at several tracks and competed at the top levels of A AA and even was a finalist in big Stakes races. She was a finalist in the 2018 Southland Super Marathon. Gracie started out racing in Birmingham AL. That is where we first met her on a track trip. One of our volunteer families fell in love with her then and have followed her career for 2 years waiting to be able to adopt her. She also raced at Gulf and spent most of her career at Southland in Arkansas which is one of the top tracks in the country with the toughest competition. Gracie raced in both the regular length races and the longer marathon length. She raced at 64lbs and will turn 4 on June 25th. Her sire is Flying Fired Up and her dam is Flying Tyra Banks. She is with the family that has been waiting on her and is not available for adoption at this time. Gracie was vetted at Emerald City Animal Hospital in Greenwood.

Damien had a very short career of 18 races and only won 2 of those. His sire is Philosophizer and his dam is Fuzzy's Dee Dee. He raced at 75lbs and just turned 4 on March 28th. Adoption Status: Adopted by the Belk Family of Fort Mill SC 3/29/20

Desoto came up from Eric Griffin's kennel at Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He raced most of his 145 races at the Caliente Track in Mexico so he may understand Spanish better than English. He also raced briefly at Wheeling Downs in WV and finally finished up his career at Orange Park. He did get up to the top A level briefly and competed in a Stakes Race. Desoto broke his back leg in a race on November 11th. He had surgery to repair the leg at a specialist in Jacksonville before coming to us. After surgery he was moved to Charlotte for rehab and his splint changes. Desoto raced at 73lbs and turned 3 on July 21st. His sire is KC and All and his dam is WW's Baby Bonnet. Desoto's leg is doing great and has healed up completely. He has been released by our vet for adoption for awhile now. He should be able to run and play normally. He is a very laid back guy and slept through most of his splint changes. He likes people and will allow you to do just about anything to him. His foster dad says he is a great guy that would make a great first or 4th greyhound. He gets along well with the different breeds of dogs in his foster home and is great in his crate. Desoto is a sweet loving guy that can be just a little timid at first with strangers. He does warm up fast to his family though but people coming to meet him should expect him to be a little standoffish at first.

Riley
Age:
Almost 8
Color/Gender:
Red Female
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Monaghan, Blythewood SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Long family of Fletcher, NC, 3.29.20

Riley just arrived with her housemate Pluto (Barts Crankshaft). She was initially adopted years ago through another adoption group. She has been in a loving home for many years but her owner is having health issues that he is not expected to recover from enough to care for his two dogs. He had to make the difficult decision to re-home both dogs. Riley and Pluto really don't pay much attention to each other and don't seem to be really bonded, so we think it would be fine to place them separately. Riley is a tiny 55lb red female. Her sire is My Rooster and her dam is Firengine Annie. She raced 23 races at Mardi Gras Race Track and Sarasota. She never won one of her races so was retired young back in March of 2014. She has been in a home since then. She and her housemate Pluto have settled into foster care as if they have always been there. She is a very sweet well behaved girl that will turn 8 on April 2nd. Because Riley is a senior girl her requested adoption donation is reduced to $250. Riley passed her cat test without much interest. She was just a little timid at first but warmed up fast and is a sweet loving girl with her foster family. She would be an easy addition to just about any home.
