Steve just arrived from the Waverider Kennel at the Daytona Beach Race Track. He is a very young pup that never had an official race. He just didn't show much promise in training. He is a tiny brindle male that won't turn 2 until August 11th. We also got his sister Sakura in the same load. Steve's sire is Go Bon Hawk Talk and his dam is Rido's Honeybear. He was a little interested in the cat at first but corrected well so we think he may be trainable with supervision. He is used to being around kids because his trainer has several kids ages 5 to12 that help out in the kennel with the dogs.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Fisher Family of Anderson SC 2/13/17

Tommy is a gorgeous, black and white boy that raced at 74lbs. He just came in from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He also raced at Mardi Gras in FL and at Dubuque and Bluffs Run in IA.  Tommy raced mostly at the mid levels but did compete in a couple of high level stakes races early on. His last race was in January of 2016, so he has been waiting in a racing kennel for a year for a group to take him. He is a sweet, friendly, boy with an excellent personality and would have been adopted quickly if people had just had the chance to meet him. He walks nicely on leash and will potty on leash so doesn't need a fenced yard if his family is willing to leash walk him. He would be an excellent choice for an apartment dog because he does potty on leash well and is very quiet in his kennel. He did not pass his cat test at the track, so needs a home with no kitties. He did great with a small white Italian Greyhound he met should be fine to live with small dogs. Tommy will turn 5 on March 19th. His sire is RA Blazer and his dam is Jenna Bear.  Tommy is a happy, friendly boy that is doing great in his foster home.

Vero just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He only raced 8 races there and only won one of those. He was retired October 5th and has been waiting at the track adoption kennel for an adopter or a group to take him since then. Vero is a smaller male racing at 69lbs and is a gorgeous red color. He turned 3 on November 1st. His sire is M's Free Mason and his dam is M's Angle. Vero did not pass his cat test at the track so needs a home with no kitties. He is a super sweet boy with the softest silky ears. After a week in his foster home, he is still curious about everything and wants to be near his foster family, a velcro dog. He does the greyhound lean on you to get petted. He loves pancakes and fried chicken treats. His foster home says he is such a great dog that it is hard not to just keep him. Beautiful with a super personality to match!

Oaks Penny
Racing Name:

Pet/Kennel Name:
Penny
Age:
3
Color/Gender:
Red Fawn Female
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Older Children Only
Fostered by (location):
Halliwell in N. Augusta SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Mendez Family of Greer SC 2/6/17

Penny just arrived from the Daytona Race Track where she raced all of her 93 races. She just raced her last race on December 10th. She just slowed down a bit and was coming in toward the back of the pack in her last few races, so was retired. Penny raced at 63lbs and turned 3 on September 17th. Her sire is WW Apple Jax and her dam is Oaks Black Betty. Penny is used to being around her trainer's children ages 5 to teen who help their mom take care of the dogs. Penny is timid at first with strangers, especially men and children she doesn't know. We think she would do better with older kids that are calmer and not moving so fast that wouldn't scare her while she is getting used to them. She is the rare greyhound that will actually bark at strangers so she is a pretty good watch dog. She is just going to warn you they are there though and will be too timid to actually try to protect the house. Since she is a vocal dog she is not going to be a good apartment dog. Penny seems to be more outgoing when she is with other greyhounds and will come right up to people when they do. She is more timid when she is alone, but seems like she will warm up pretty fast. Penny will bark and play bow while staying just out of reach at first but after a little while in her foster home she comes right up for snuggles and love. Penny passed her cat and small dog tests at the track so should be able to live with either. She really loves people that she knows and wants to be petted and loved often, she will just need a family that will give her time to warm up to them and get to know them. She does love to play ball, does stairs and has no issues with slick floors. She lets her foster parents know when she needs to go outside and is quiet in her kennel all night.

Cutie just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She is a littermate to one of our volunteer's dogs so she is coming in for him to foster but is available for adoption. She was a good racer and raced 102 races getting up to the top A level. Cutie raced at 66lbs. She just retired in December and just turned 3 on December 5th. Her sire is Dusty Outback and her dam is Nightingale. Cutie quickly checked out the house and found the dog bed and laid down. She hasn't gotten into anything and followed the other dogs up and down the stairs with no problem. She seems like a confident girl that isn't easily stressed. She gets along well with others. She whined some when she needed to go potty. She does complain about the crate some so may not be a good apartment dog but that may stop after she realizes this crate is her crate. So far she has been a very easy, well behaved foster. Very calm. Be sure to look at her other pictures to see some really cute ones of her as a baby!

Prince passed his cat test at the track so should be fine to live in a home with cats and small dogs. Prince met some children and was Ok but was a little bit more reserved with them than some of the other dogs. He seems like he is a sensitive boy that can be a little bit unsure in new situations. He is doing great in his foster home. Very sweet boy!

She weighs 65lbs and turned 2 on October 20th. Her sire is the famous Dodgem By Design and her dam is Whistler's Wrath. Belfry did pass her cat and small dog test so should be fine to live in a home with either. She is a friendly, sweet girl. So far she has been very quiet in her crate. She is friendly and happy with the cute little white spot on her chin that looks like she has been drinking milk. She pulls some on leash so her foster home is working on that. Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Riker in Clemson, SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Harpe Family of Anderson 1/31/17

Quik is a white male with black spots. He initially came in to us from the Orlando Race Track he also raced at Palm Beach and raced 76 races including a few Stakes races. HIs trainer described him as nice and calm and no problem in the kennel. Quik raced at 70llbs and his DOB is 12/16/2009 so he just turned 7. Quik passed his cat test so should be OK to live with cats or small dogs. His sire is TK Quick Strike and his dam is I'm Lovin It. Quick was adopted in 2013 and renamed "Snowball".  After four years with his first family, they moved to a new house and he started having potty accidents in the new house so they sent him back to us to find a new family. It was just lack of potty training in the new home and he hasn't had even one accident in his foster home since we got him. Dogs don't generalize well so no matter how well house trained they are in one home they do need initial supervision and potty training when they go to a different house. There is no way for them to automatically know that the rules in all houses and buildings are the same without being shown.  He had been living with four children in his former home and is very good with the kids in his foster home too. He will lay with his head in their laps and loves to cuddle with them on the couch. Quik potties on leash and has recently learned to go up and down steep indoor stairs so he would be OK being leash walked in a home without a fenced yard. This is a great chance to offer a home to a slightly older boy who is already a pet and home acclimated. The photos we have of him are from 4 years ago.

Bishop just arrived from the Palm Beach Race Track. He is a gorgeous, 73lb black male with ears that stand straight up when he is curious about something. He raced only 14 races before injuring his leg in a fall on July 1st. His leg was fixed, splinted and rehabbed by a vet in Florida that worked with his racing owner and trainer. He is out of the splint now and healed up so was cleared to travel to our group to be adopted. He turned 2 on October 15th. His sire is Venus Espinosa and his dam is Kiowa Lee Philli. Bishop is a friendly, playful boy with a very cool personality. Bishop loves to go for rides in the car and is a very good traveler. He loves to run around and play with toys and his old leg injury doesn't seem to slow him down. He plays nicely with the other dogs in his foster home and is all about getting his people and his friends to play with him. Although he is silly and playful he does calm down. He is a very sweet, snuggly boy that is quiet in his kennel. He is going to be a fun boy for a lucky family. He did pass his cat test with no interest so should be fine to live with cats and small dogs. He will need to be discouraged from rough play with either though because of the size difference. He didn't even get excited when he saw rats at PetSmart so appears to be able to live with small animals.

Kahr is a sweet, friendly, red brindle female. She came in from the Daytona Beach race track with her sister Kimber, that we already placed. Kahr only raced 6 races and didn't win any of them so was retired at just 2 years old. She raced at 59lbs. Kahr turned 3 on October 21st. Her sire is JJB Good As Gold and her Dam is MJG Purse Buster. Kahr was adopted by her foster family a year ago, but was returned for her safety because a female pit bull in the home attacked her repeatedly. Kahr did nothing to initiate the attacks, the most recent was when she was sleeping. Her owners had taken in the pitbull from the streets and couldn't find her owners. Initially, they tried to find a rescue group that would take a dog aggressive pit, but had no luck. After several attacks, they made the tough choice to rehome their own dog Kahr for her safety, since the Pitbull didn't have the option of going to another home. Kahr travels well and has excellent manners and is already home acclimated. She is very loving and sweet and her owners loved her very much. Kahr passed her cat and small dog tests so should be able to live with either. Kahr was badly injured in the attack and spent over a week at the vets and has many many staples, stitches and open areas that can not be stitched. She had a long healing process with frequent visits to our vet and bandage changes but finally was released by our vet to go home. Her photos here are the ones taken a year ago before she was attacked.

She raced most of her races in Birmingham but also raced briefly at Melbourne, Sarasota, Mardi Gras, Palm Beach, Naples-Ft Myers, Flagler and Tri State Tracks. She has done a lot of traveling! She was adopted in December of 2015 so has been in an adoptive home for a year. Stephanie turned 5 on August 25th. She is a friendly girl that passed her cat and small dog tests and has been living with small dogs in her adoptive home. Her family has been calling her Nile for the last year. They are returning her because of a change in their work schedule. Stephanie is a calm, sweet girl. She was a little overwhelmed when she first arrived but quickly gained confidence and ended up being the dominant female in her pack. Stephanie is very outgoing and friendly now like she was when we met her at her race kennel. She is good on leash and very sweet. She is a beautiful dark brindle with cute floppy ears. Her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is USS Wild Times. She can be grumpy about her space when she is laying down on a bed so she would need to be placed with no kids or kids old enough to understand not to bother her when she is laying down.

Ivanka came in from the Melbourne Fl Race Track. She only raced two of her 24 races at Melbourne and raced most of her races at Palm Beach. She only won 2 races, that we could find, so was retired young and just turned 2 on January 12th. She is a white girl with black spots that raced at 60lbs. Her sire is Djays Octane and her dam is Julia WW Gilda. Her entire litter was named for the Trump family. Ivanka was overwhelmed when she first arrived and didn't do well at the vet's office. She would hide in the back of her crate and was really stressed. She is normally a friendly, submissive girl though. Just needs some time to gain her confidence back in a new stressful situation. She does ride well in a car and crates nicely and quietly. Since she gets stressed with a lot of handling at first, she may do better in a home with older kids and not little loud children. Ivanka did pass her small dog test so should be fine to live in a home with them.

Ivanka was adopted on Trump's Inauguration day.

Schmidty came in from the Boltons in Orlando Florida at the end of September. He raced 46 races at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. Schmidty was adopted shortly after he arrived but was returned quickly because his family had a new baby. They said Schmidty had shown some protectiveness over his space when laying down so they didn't feel that he would be good with the baby in 6 months when it started crawling. His foster home has laid down with him and intentionally gotten in his space and bothered him while he was laying down since he has been back. She can find no hint of any space issues, in fact, after you invade his space and start to move away from him, he tries to get you to come back and snuggle with him. We have him listed as older kids based on what his owners stated even though we have seen none of that behavior. Schmidty is a calm, friendly, extra large boy that raced at 84lbs. He likes to travel and just wants to rest his head on your shoulder to snuggle. His sire is Flying Coal City and his dam is Kentucky Ashley. He turned 3 on September 22nd. Schmidty passed his cat and small dog tests at the track so should be fine to live in a home with either. He is being fostered with cats in his foster home too.

She is very alert and seems to be a fun, happy, playful, girl. Rhoda does need some work on leash manners because she gets excited and wants to check out everything at first and pulls some. She is a super cute girl with stand up ears. Rhoda is mostly quiet in her kennel but has made some noise. Boston came in from the Palm Beach Race Track where she raced 39 races. She only won two of those races and placed in a few others. But for the most part she finished toward the back of the pack. She raced at 66lbs. Her sire is Lord Dempsey and her dam is JG Mystique. She turned 2 on May 6th. Boston is a cute, sweet girl that seems pretty calm and well behaved for 2 years old. She passed her small dog test without any interest in them and has been living with a cat. She is mostly quiet and well behaved but does complain a bit about being left alone in a kennel so wouldn't be the best choice for apartment living. She was briefly with an adoptive family as an only dog and didn't seem happy there when she was left alone. We think she needs a family with at least one other dog to hang out with. She does get along very well with other dogs. She is a very sweet loving girl that is so adorable!

Bobo is a very tall, fawn male that just arrived from the Daytona Beach Race Track. He raced 175 races there and at Orange Park. He was a good racer and won a lot of races. Bobo is a larger male that weighs 79lbs. He is a tall narrow guy that is very tall for his weight. His sire is the very famous Flying Penske and his dam is Kiowa Kelly Ann. He turned 4 on March 20th. Bobo is used to being around kids, his trainer has 4 kids and takes them to the kennel with her. Bobo was a favorite of his trainer and followed her around "helping" her in the kennel. He is missed very much and she would love to keep in touch with his new owners. This is a very special boy, whose sweet, devoted personality made him stand out in a kennel with over 100 dogs in it. He will need an extra tall 48 inch crate because his back will touch the top of the regular sized 48 inch crate. Bobo needs some work work walking on leash because he is curious about everything and wants to go check things out. He has a lot of personality and isn't a total couch potato like most greyhounds so will need some exercise in a fenced yard or better yet, daily walks.

Toker is a 66lb red female that came in from the Goodman Kennel in Orlando. She was a very good racer racing at the top A level and winning a lot of her 182 races. Her last race was July 30th. Her trainer's family bought her as a puppy and had her most of her life. They were hoping to be able to keep her as a pet when she retired but that didn't work out. So we were able to get a very very sweet girl to place. She has a wonderful personality and really loves her people. She passed her cat and small dog test with no interest in either. She is living with cats in her foster home and is doing great with them. She is living with kids in her foster home too and seems to really like them - the youngest kid is 8. Her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is USS Opportunity. She turned 4 on April 28th.  Toker does have dry eye so will probably need inexpensive daily eye drops. Toker loves to go for rides in the car. She crates quietly and has adjusted very well to pet life. She has not had a single potty accident in the house, even when her foster family has slept in a bit. She is such a great girl!

Retail is a retired brood mom that had one litter of 4 puppies after a successful racing career of 77 races. She came in with her daughter Issabelle Izzy (Trista) who has already been adopted. Retail raced at Orange Park in Jacksonville FL and Derby Lane. Her sire is DK's Prime Time and her dam is T Dazzle. She is a short girl that weighs 60lbs. She turned 6 on Nov 25th. We placed two of her littermates already, Emo and Set Force. They are wonderful girls so we were excited to get Retail too. She does want to chase cats so can't live with them. She has been fine with two small furry dogs in her foster home and seems like she gets along really well with other dogs. Retail is a sweet girl that loves everyone she meets, especially women. When a woman comes in she will bounce and sometimes give them a hug. Retail is very happy and sweet and her tail wags often. She has the confidence of most mama dogs and not much bothers her. Retail has a gorgeous dark brindle, glossy coat. Really a stunning girl! She can be playful and silly but calms down quickly and turns into the typical lazy greyhound. Retail really does not like being crated but has done fine in her foster home without one and has good house manners. Retail has been in an adoptive home but didn't do well with the toddler in the home after the first month so was returned. Although she normally likes kids, she can be possessive with toys if kids try to take them away from her so she needs a home with no kids now.

Bryant just arrived from the Daytona Beach Race Track. He came in with his brothers Stihl and Benton. He is the only one of the brothers to ever have an official race. He only had 3 though, and finished at the back of the pack each time, so was retired young. He won't turn 2 until April 9th. He is one of the tinier boys we have seen, racing at only 63lbs. Even though he is very young his trainer says he isn't a wild pup. We aren't trying to place the boys together because there are 3 of them, but if you are thinking about a bonded pair we could adopt 2 together. We will adopt them separately too. Bryant passed his cat and small dog tests easily. He did bark at a cat in his foster home and was a little excited sometimes but quickly got over that. His trainer has her kids work with her in the kennel so he is used to being around kids from 5 to teen. His sire is Abita Simon and his dam is Magic Patti. Bryant doesn't know a lot yet. He needs more work on good leash manners. He is a sweet friendly boy that is so cute! His trainer said that she put the brothers all out together because they were too whimpy to be put out with the other boys. The other boys would pick on them. Bryant hasn't read the book that claim greyhounds are quiet and he does bark sometimes, mainly when the ice maker makes ice. He likes to ride curled up in the front seat of the car but if he slides off he is perfectly happy to ride with his hind end on the floor and his chest and head on the seat or the reverse of that. He makes himself comfortable wherever he is and is usually upside down with his legs in the air sleeping in the "roach" position. His foster mom decided to keep him.

Beca is a gorgeous, red, girl that just retired from the Palm Beach Race Track. She raced at Derby Lane before moving to Palm Beach. She raced 40 races total and never was really good. She had a minor injury in April and was rested and rehabbed until November when she started running again. After a few races that didn't go too well, they decided to just retire her. Not sure what the injury was because she has no sign of it now. Her sire is Ben Awhile and her dam is KB's Kazoo. She will turn 3 on December 10th. Beca was afraid of the cat and wouldn't go near it during her cat test. If we tried to take her to the cat her legs would start to tremble and she would go the other way. So she would probably be fine in a home with a cat and would not try to chase it. Beca has settled into her foster home very well and is very sweet, friendly and loving. She does have a couple of large scars on her side from one of her littermates playing too rough.

Benton just arrived from the Daytona Beach Race Track. He came in with his littermates Bryant and Stihl. He had no desire to race or chase the lure so flunked out of training and never raced one official race. That also means that he has no desire to chase cats or small dogs or anything else, so would do fine in a home with small critters. Benton is one of the tiniest boys we have had available at only about 63lbs. He is young and won't turn 2 until April 9th. His trainer said that she put all the brothers outside together because they were whimpy and would get picked on by some of the other males. Benton is the most confident of the 3 boys and seems to be the leader of their little pack of 3. While they let other dogs boss them around, they are not shy with people at all and wag and go up to everyone happily. Benton is used to being around his trainers children ages 5 to teen. His sire is Abita Simon and his dam is Magic Patti. Sweet boy! He does get excited and barks and whines sometimes in his kennel so probably would not be a good apartment dog.

Thunder just arrived from a farm in Florida. He raced at Orange Park and Sanford Orlando Race tracks in Lester Raines Kennel but retired on September 15th. He was pretty good for a big guy getting up to A level quickly. He raced 71 races. After he retired he was sent to a farm until an adoption group could take him. Thunder is an extra large guy that raced close to 90lbs. He just turned 3 on November 3rd. His sire is Tyrur Alex and his dam is Dutch Camilla. He is a sweet boy that is very friendly. His whole body wags when he sees someone. He is a big strong boy so will need some leash work because he does try to go up to each person he sees for attention. He seems like a great guy with a lot of personality that may excel as a meet and greet dog or even a service dog. He travels well too. Thunder came in for one of our foster homes who had recently had a dog pass away. She wanted another big black boy and fell in love with Thunder right away and is keeping him.

Jack is a famous boy even though he never raced. He was in the first litter of pups that Greyhoundfacts.org followed. You can see pictures of him and his litter Here. He comes with tons of puppy photos from the time he was born. Jack quickly showed that he just wasn't cut out for racing. He has spent some time traveling around. He was in Colorado for awhile then went down to Florida. Jack's sire is the famous Paddy Whacker and his dam is Blazin Angelfire. He is a large guy and weighs nearly 80lbs. He turned 2 on May 21st so is still young and still is a big, goofy pup. Jack loves to run around and play with the children in his foster home but was returned because he was growly over his space with another child so we think he would do better in a home with no kids. Even though he is playful for short spurts, he calms down and can be quite the couch potato too. Jack can be very bossy with other dogs so would do best in a home as an only dog. He had mixed results with cats in his foster homes so we also put him down as needing a home with no cats. He was good with them most of the time, but he could get excited when they played and ran and wanted to join in. Jack is big and strong and his foster home is working on his leash manners. He is better once he gets going and calms down. He would love to do anything with his family and really really loves people and wants attention. Jack can be a loud in his kennel so would not be a good apartment dog. He has been fine in his foster home if he is out of his kennel and doesn't get into things. Jack has done really well in a dog experienced foster home and will need a dog experienced adopter that can continue to work on his rules and boundaries, since he is still learning. Jack is very outgoing, waggy, friendly and happy. He loves to give kisses too. He has a lot of personality and just needs some leadership and guidance.

He is a very young guy that won't even turn 2 until April 2nd. He doesn't have an official racing weight but is a pretty small boy so we would guess him to be about 65lbs. His sire is the very famous Trent Lee and his dam is BM Murphy. Paulie is very well behaved for a pup. He is excellent on leash, quiet in his kennel and seems to be very calm so far. He passed his cat test and his small dog test easily. He sniffed both but never got excited or acted like he even thought about chasing them. He potties on leash so may be OK for a home without a fenced yard. Very very sweet pup! He did come from a rough litter of puppies and has some long healed scars on his thin skin from his littermates. He has a bit of muzzle rub on his face from wearing a muzzle at the kennel but that should heal up fast. This is a precious little boy with the sweetest most gentle eyes and personality to match. He also doesn't have any desire to chase cats or small dogs, so can live with either. His foster home even has chickens and he was only mildly interested in them. He came to us with his littermates Bryant and Benton. Their sire is Abita Simon and his dam is Magic Patti. He is one of the smaller boys we have ever placed at only 63lbs. He is a pretty red boy with some dark sabling on his ears and face. A very handsome boy. Stihl won't turn 2 until April 9th so he is very young. The boys are all friendly and sweet. Stihl needs work on stairs and leash manners because he is young and hasn't been out and about yet much. His trainer said that they didn't put the brothers out with the other males because they would let the other males pick on them and bully them. The brothers were whimpy, so when they went outside, they had their own private family only turn out. We are not trying to place the brothers together because of the number, but if you are looking for two boys that are bonded you could choose two of them. They are all in separate foster homes and we think they will be fine being placed by themselves as well. Stihl's trainer brings her kids to work with her so he is used to being around kids from 5 to teen.

Lucky initially came in from the Orlando Race Track. He is a tall, handsome guy with beautiful brindle markings and an unusually dark face. Lucky raced 74 races at Flagler, Naples Ft Myers and the Orlando race tracks. He mainly was competitive at the lower racing levels but won some races. Lucky's sire is Dauntless and his dam is Fuzzys Donna. He raced at 77lbs and is a littermate to a sweet boy we already placed named Fuzzys Cam Neely. He turned 4 years old on June 12th. Lucky travels well and is a very friendly, happy, guy that loves people. He did great with the 11 month old toddler in his first foster home. He was a little curious and tried to sniff the cat when he met it but was met with a slap. After the one cat slap he wouldn't get near the cat again so seems like he will be very respectful in a home with resident cats. Lucky has been in an adoptive home since February but his owner had to move back in with his parents and their dogs so has been forced to rehome Lucky. He lived with another male greyhound for nearly a year. Lucky is a confident guy that is very outgoing and sweet. He can be a little pushy or dominant when playing with other dogs so would need to be placed in a home with another male that was more submissive like his previous greyhound buddy or a female.

Gold comes to us from the Brindle Kennel at Palm Beach Race Track, where she never had an official race because they quickly realized that she just wasn't going to have the speed or interest to be a successful racer. She is very young and won't even turn 2 until January 6th. Her sire is DJays Octane and her dam is Cry Hope. Gold is playful and loves to run and play since she is still young. She is very curious and wants to check out everything but is learning to walk nicely on leash. Gold passed her small dog test easily so should be fine to live with small dogs. Gold is very sweet, outgoing and gorgeous! She isn't worried or stressed by much and loves adventure. If you are looking for a young, friendly greyhound, this may be your girl! Gold isn't going to be a good choice for an apartment because she does complain about being left alone in her kennel. Gold was in an adoptive home briefly but was too interested in their cats so needs a home with no kitties now. She has a fondness for the young grandson in her foster home so may do well in a home with kids. Because of her young age and curiosity she would do best in a home that uses a crate when they aren't home to supervise. Gold is a very smart greyhound that has figured out how to open crates and even doors in her foster home and can be a bit of a houdini. A plastic Vari Kennel, like they use on airplanes, is pretty escape proof and may be the best kennel for a girl like her. Gold is going to bond strongly with her family, smart enough to learn anything her humans teach her, and ready for whatever adventure they have planned. We think she would be an awesome dog for a family that wanted to do obedience or agility with a dog because she is so smart. She reminds her foster mom of her border collie. Because she is still young, Gold needs an owner who will continue working with her on the manners and rules that she is learning in her foster home. Gold may do fine in a home as an only dog, she seems more interested in playing and interacting with people than other dogs so far.

Andy is a gorgeous dark, red boy that has such a happy-go-lucky personality that his racing owners say that he has never had a bad day. He is happy all the time. He is a smaller male that raced at 67lbs. His sire is Flying Penske and his dam is AMF Sweet Betty. He is a littermate to two sweet girls we placed AMF Sugar Sugar and AMF Sugar Sweet. Andy turned 4 on June 8th. He raced 153 races at Palm Beach and at Wheeling Downs. Andy has done great in foster care, quickly learning the house rules. He is a very friendly boy and is indeed one of the happiest guys his foster mom has had. One of his two foster homes had a small white Italian Greyhound that he did well with. He passed his cat test easily too. He did want to sniff the cat to see what it was, but after the cat slapped him, he wouldn't even look at it again. He gets along well with other dogs. When he gets excited, he occasionally does a greyhound grin. Andy was placed in a home with kids for a month and was good with them until one fell on him. He was returned to us at that time to find another home. We feel he would do better in a home with no children because he has shown that he does have some issues with his space when laying down. One of Andy's foster moms jogged and walked with him and he loved that. You set the pace and doesn't vary and keeps up very well for short jogs. Andy is quiet in his crate and seems like he would be an excellent apartment or townhouse dog.

Red Brindle Female
Cat Tolerance:
No
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Erskine, Simpsonville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Oldham Family of Simpsonville SC 12/4/16

Bug is a very young girl that won't turn two until January 24th. She just arrived from Goodman Kennel at the Sanford Orlando race track. She never did well in race training so Bug was retired without ever actually racing. Since she never raced we don't have a racing weight for her but we guess her to be around 65lbs. She is a beautiful, red brindle with a white blaze, white stockings and chest. Her sire is the very famous Greys Statesman and her dam is Elysiums Joy. Bug is very young so still acts puppyish. She is very friendly and waggy. She loves to travel but tries to climb up into the front seat to help drive. Bug is still wiggly and has a short attention span because of her age too. She does calm down and got better after being in her foster home for a little while, but like a kid, she will need some reminders when she goes to a new home. She is good with the small dogs she has met but gets a little too excited about cats to be able to live with them. She has done great with the toddler that visits her foster home and seems to really like kids. If you are looking for a young beauty with plenty of personality Bug may be your girl.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Fisher-Collins Family 12/2/16

Odessa just arrived from Goodman Kennels at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced at 58lbs so is a small girl. She only raced 33 races. She raced most of her races at Southland in Arkansas and only has been in Orlando since July. She turned 2 on April 12th. Her sire is Kiowa WW Brother and her dam is SE's Goin Skiddn. Odessa is a friendly but sensitive girl that seemed a little overwhelmed when she first arrived. She doesn't like to go in her crate and cries some once crated so probably won't be a good apartment dog. She passed her cat and small dog tests at the track so should be OK with either. She was initially afraid of stairs but has learned how to do them since arriving in foster care. She is a gorgeous, little girl that just needed a little time to relax in her foster home. She walks well on leash and potties on leash so doesn't require a fenced yard. She corrects easily if she does anything wrong. Odessa really likes people and wants to be with them. During the drive to the vet she tried to climb up into the front seat to help drive. Sweet girl!

Leonard is named for the Big Bang Theory star. He just arrived from the Goodman Kennel at the Sanford Orlando. He also raced at Orange Park in Jacksonville. Leonard only ever won 1 race and mostly finished toward the back of the pack. He raced at 73lbs and will turn 3 on March 5th. His sire is Hi Noon Hero and his dam is WW Adore's Me. Leonard is a friendly, happy boy. He is usually pretty quiet in his crate but does occasionally make a little noise. Like a lot of boys, he will need some supervision at first in a new home because he did try to mark at first in his foster home. He enjoys being outside as much as inside and travels well. He is doing well with the small white dog in his foster home and was scared of a kitten that hissed at him at the vet's office. He seems like a really nice boy that will settle in about anywhere and SO gorgeous! Leonard is a little nervous around a toddler that visits his foster home frequently and backs away from him. He probably wouldn't be the best choice for a family with very small kids.

Johnny came in initially from the Boltons in Orlando, Florida. He is a big, friendly, outgoing boy that weighs 82.5 lbs. He just turned two on Halloween. He is registered as black but on closer look, he is actually a dark black brindle. His dam is Kentucky Merlot and his sire is Golden Squire. He has no races listed and was retired early. He passed his cat and small dog tests at the track so should be fine to live with either. Johnny was picked as a good candidate for service dog work. He was in an adoptive home for just a little while and was returned recently because he wasn't good with their tiny dogs walking and jumping on him. Like most dogs, he doesn't like to be stepped on or bothered by other dogs of any size when laying down on a bed.

Fostered by (location):
Roepke, Columbia SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Longo Family of Martinez GA 11/27/16

Trey just arrived from the Goodman Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He is a small 68lb brindle male that turned 4 on August 26th. He also raced briefly at Derby Lane early in his career. He was a top level racer in Orlando competing and winning at the top A level against the best dogs at that track. Trey's trainers were very attached to him and planned to keep him as a personal pet after he retired but they just recently rescued a small dog from a bad situation so weren't able to keep another dog when Trey finally retired. They say that Trey is the best dog. When he first arrived at the track he was very shy and overwhelmed. They worked him through that and helped him build his confidence in the year and a half they had him. Now he is a sweet guy that seems pretty well adjusted and friendly. When he arrived he didn't tuck his tail or seem shy at all. He still occasionally has a moment of panic like when the hauler tried to take him out of the kennel to bring him to our group. He really didn't want to leave and panicked. But for the most part, he seems like a pretty normal friendly guy that is adjusting to life in a home very well. He is living in a foster home with some small dogs and another male greyhound and is fine with all of them. You wouldn't know that at one time he was a shy boy. More as we get to know him.

NB's Richnfamous
Racing Name:
NB's Richnfamous
Pet/Kennel Name:
Armor
Age:
4
Color/Gender:
Brindle Male
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
No
Fostered by (location):
Johnson, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Alexander family in Augusta GA 11/23/16

Armor originally came in from a kennel closing at the Daytona Beach race track. He also raced at Sanford Orlando and Derby Lane race and has 66 races listed. It doesn't look like he won one race but he did place some. His sire is Bob's Skeet and his dam is Prairies Eagle. Armor turned 4 on June 24th. He is very calm, friendly and well behaved. Armor is a tall, leggy guy that raced at 76lbs. Armor is very good on leash and enjoys going for walks. He has already been living in a apartment and is very quiet in his kennel so would be perfect for someone needing a quiet apartment dog. He was also living as an only dog for a year so should also be an excellent choice for someone that wants an only greyhound. His trainer had 3 older children that work at the kennel with her and he was very good with them. His recent owner said Armor usually chooses to avoid real small loud kids though. Armor can be a bit grumpy about his space when laying down, so we have him listed as no kids even though he enjoyed being around the older kids that worked with him at the kennel. Armor passed his cat and small dog tests easily with no interest in chasing either. He is doing fine with the small dog in his foster home too. Armor is a grinner! It is a cute thing that just a few greyhounds do when they are happy or excited. He also has one other quirky thing about him - he can wag his tail straight up and down as well as side to side! Armor has been in an adoptive home for a little over a year so is already home acclimated, well behaved and has good house manners. The only reason he is available again is because his dad took a job that forces him to travel every week. Armor has been boarded a lot recently and his dad feels it isn't fair to him. If you want a tall handsome boy Armor could by your guy. Armor has settled in well to his foster home. He is a very nice boy that seems like he would be an easy addition for some lucky family. Such a laid back guy, but he does love to get silly and do zoomies occasionally in the backyard. Very friendly and loving.
