Adoption Status: Adopted by the Davis Family of Charlotte NC 12/31/16

Beca is a gorgeous, red, girl that just retired from the Palm Beach Race Track. She raced at Derby Lane before moving to Palm Beach. She raced 40 races total and never was really good. She had a minor injury in April and was rested and rehabbed until November when she started running again. After a few races that didn't go too well, they decided to just retire her. Not sure what the injury was because she has no sign of it now. Her sire is Ben Awhile and her dam is KB's Kazoo. She will turn 3 on December 10th. Beca was afraid of the cat and wouldn't go near it during her cat test. If we tried to take her to the cat her legs would start to tremble and she would go the other way. So she would probably be fine in a home with a cat and would not try to chase it. Beca has settled into her foster home very well and is very sweet, friendly and loving. She does have a couple of large scars on her side from one of her littermates playing too rough.

Thunder came in from a farm in Florida. He raced at Orange Park and Sanford Orlando Race tracks in Lester Raines Kennel but retired on September 15th of 2016. He was pretty good for a big guy getting up to A level quickly. He raced 71 races. After he retired he was sent to a farm until an adoption group could take him. Thunder is an extra large guy that raced close to 90lbs. He just turned 3 on November 3rd. His sire is Tyrur Alex and his dam is Dutch Camilla. He is a sweet boy that is very friendly. His whole body wags when he sees someone and he wants to go up to each person he sees for attention. He seems like a great guy with a lot of personality that may excel as a meet and greet dog or even a service dog. He travels well too. Thunder came in for one of our foster homes who had recently had a dog pass away. She wanted another big black boy and fell in love with Thunder right away and is keeping him. Thunder loves to play with balls and is very good at fetch. He gets along well with other dogs and has lived with a variety of other breeds of dogs, large and small.

She was a very good racer getting up to the top A level at Southland which is one of the top tracks in the country. Snooki raced her last race on July 23rd and had a hock injury then that ended her career. Her leg was fixed, splinted and rehabbed at the track kennel since then and she has made a full recovery. Now that she is healed up she is being sent to us to place. She raced 85 races and weighs 61lbs. She turned 4 on November 2nd. Her sire is Kelso's Lorenzo and her dam is Adarlyn. Walter just retired from the Brindle Kennel at the Palm Beach Race Track where he raced 16 races. He was retired when he bumped into the rail and broke his leg on October 4th. His leg was set and splinted by the vet and he was rehabbed at the track kennel. He is out of the cast now and the leg is doing great. He just needs a little more healing time before being allowed to run around with other dogs. He barely has a limp now and is expected to make a full recovery and will be able to play, go for walks and enjoy normal pet activities.  He is a 75lb brindle boy that turned 2 on October 6th. His sire is Kiowa Cruzechamp and his dam is Train Track. He is a very friendly, sweet, guy. More as we get to know Walter.

Age:

Color/Gender:

Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Strickland, Honea Path SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Hammond Family of Greenville 12/18/16

Stihl just arrived from the Daytona Race Track. He never actually had an official race there and didn't complete his race training. He just didn't have the desire to chase the lure. He also doesn't have any desire to chase cats or small dogs, so can live with either. His foster home even has chickens and he was only mildly interested in them. He came to us with his littermates Bryant and Benton. Their sire is Abita Simon and his dam is Magic Patti. He is one of the smaller boys we have ever placed at only 63lbs. He is a pretty red boy with some dark sabling on his ears and face. A very handsome boy. Stihl won't turn 2 until April 9th so he is very young. The boys are all friendly and sweet. Stihl needs work on stairs and leash manners because he is young and hasn't been out and about yet much. His trainer said that they didn't put the brothers out with the other males because they would let the other males pick on them and bully them. The brothers were whimpy, so when they went outside, they had their own private family only turn out. We are not trying to place the brothers together because of the number, but if you are looking for two boys that are bonded you could choose two of them. They are all in separate foster homes and we think they will be fine being placed by themselves as well. Stihl's trainer brings her kids to work with her so he is used to being around kids from 5 to teen.

Edward just arrived from the Palm Beach Race Track. He raced 24 races there and only won 5 of those. He broke his leg in his last race on October 27th so was retired. His leg was set and casted at the track kennel and he stayed there until his splint came off. His leg is very good now and his cast is off. He just needs a little more time before being allowed to run around much. His leg should be fine and it shouldn't stop him from playing, going for walks or other normal pet activities. He is a handsome white boy with brindle spots that raced at 74lbs. His sire is Aerial Battle and his dam is KL Elaborate Eva. We placed two other pups from the same mom - different litter named LB's Red Chariot and LB's Busy Work. Edward turned 2 on October 14th. He passed his small dog test so should be able to live with them. More as we get to know him.

Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Roberts Columbia SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Roberts Family of Columbia SC 12/9/16

Lucky initially came in from the Orlando Race Track. He is a tall, handsome guy with beautiful brindle markings and an unusually dark face. Lucky raced 74 races at Flagler, Naples Ft Myers and the Orlando race tracks. He mainly was competitive at the lower racing levels but won some races. Lucky's sire is Dauntless and his dam is Fuzzys Donna. He raced at 77lbs and is a littermate to a sweet boy we already placed named Fuzzys Cam Neely. He turned 4 years old on June 12th. Lucky travels well and is a very friendly, happy, guy that loves people. He did great with the 11 month old toddler in his first foster home. He was a little curious and tried to sniff the cat when he met it but was met with a slap. After the one cat slap he wouldn't get near the cat again so seems like he will be very respectful in a home with resident cats. Lucky has been in an adoptive home since February but his owner had to move back in with his parents and their dogs so has been forced to rehome Lucky. He lived with another male greyhound for nearly a year. Lucky is a confident guy that is very outgoing and sweet. He can be a little pushy or dominant when playing with other dogs so would need to be placed in a home with another male that was more submissive like his previous greyhound buddy or a female.

Wendy just arrived from the Naples Ft Myers track in Florida. She raced 91 races. She raced most of her races at Bluffs Run in IA, then moved to Mardi Gras, Flagler and on to Naples Ft Myers. She generally raced at the lower racing levels and did more placing than winning. She won a few races though. She is a beautiful, 66lb, white girl with brindle spots. She turned 4 on September 8th. Her sire is Pat C Game Face and her dam is Yo My Ladylynne. She is a pretty friendly girl. She was afraid of the cat when we tested her and didn't even want to sniff it. She was a little more interested in a small fast moving white dog but we think she will be trainable with some exposure because she did lose interest after she figured out what it was.

Fostered by (location):
Fulcher Augusta GA
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Fulcher family of Augusta GA, 12.8.2016

Gold comes to us from the Brindle Kennel at Palm Beach Race Track, where she never had an official race because they quickly realized that she just wasn't going to have the speed or interest to be a successful racer. She is very young and won't even turn 2 until January 6th. Her sire is DJays Octane and her dam is Cry Hope. Gold is playful and loves to run and play since she is still young. She is very curious and wants to check out everything but is learning to walk nicely on leash. Gold passed her small dog test easily so should be fine to live with small dogs. Gold is very sweet, outgoing and gorgeous! She isn't worried or stressed by much and loves adventure. If you are looking for a young, friendly greyhound, this may be your girl! Gold isn't going to be a good choice for an apartment because she does complain about being left alone in her kennel. Gold was in an adoptive home briefly but was too interested in their cats so needs a home with no kitties now. She has a fondness for the young grandson in her foster home so may do well in a home with kids. Because of her young age and curiosity she would do best in a home that uses a crate when they aren't home to supervise. Gold is a very smart greyhound that has figured out how to open crates and even doors in her foster home and can be a bit of a houdini. A plastic Vari Kennel, like they use on airplanes, is pretty escape proof and may be the best kennel for a girl like her. Gold is going to bond strongly with her family, smart enough to learn anything her humans teach her, and ready for whatever adventure they have planned. We think she would be an awesome dog for a family that wanted to do obedience or agility with a dog because she is so smart. She reminds her foster mom of her border collie. Because she is still young, Gold needs an owner who will continue working with her on the manners and rules that she is learning in her foster home. Gold may do fine in a home as an only dog, she seems more interested in playing and interacting with people than other dogs so far.

Pet/Kennel Name:
Andy
Age:

Color/Gender:
Dark Red Male
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
No
Fostered by (location):
Frymire in Greenville, SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Powell Family of Gaffney SC 12/4/16

Andy is a gorgeous dark, red boy that has such a happy-go-lucky personality that his racing owners say that he has never had a bad day. He is happy all the time. He is a smaller male that raced at 67lbs. His sire is Flying Penske and his dam is AMF Sweet Betty. He is a littermate to two sweet girls we placed AMF Sugar Sugar and AMF Sugar Sweet. Andy turned 4 on June 8th. He raced 153 races at Palm Beach and at Wheeling Downs. Andy has done great in foster care, quickly learning the house rules. He is a very friendly boy and is indeed one of the happiest guys his foster mom has had. One of his two foster homes had a small white Italian Greyhound that he did well with. He passed his cat test easily too. He did want to sniff the cat to see what it was, but after the cat slapped him, he wouldn't even look at it again. He gets along well with other dogs. When he gets excited, he occasionally does a greyhound grin. Andy was placed in a home with kids for a month and was good with them until one fell on him. He was returned to us at that time to find another home. We feel he would do better in a home with no children because he has shown that he does have some issues with his space when laying down. One of Andy's foster moms jogged and walked with him and he loved that. You set the pace and doesn't vary and keeps up very well for short jogs. Andy is quiet in his crate and seems like he would be an excellent apartment or townhouse dog.

Odessa just arrived from Goodman Kennels at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced at 58lbs so is a small girl. She only raced 33 races. She raced most of her races at Southland in Arkansas and only has been in Orlando since July. She turned 2 on April 12th. Her sire is Kiowa WW Brother and her dam is SE's Goin Skiddn. Odessa is a friendly but sensitive girl that seemed a little overwhelmed when she first arrived. She doesn't like to go in her crate and cries some once crated so probably won't be a good apartment dog. She passed her cat and small dog tests at the track so should be OK with either. She was initially afraid of stairs but has learned how to do them since arriving in foster care. She is a gorgeous, little girl that just needed a little time to relax in her foster home. She walks well on leash and potties on leash so doesn't require a fenced yard. She corrects easily if she does anything wrong. Odessa really likes people and wants to be with them. During the drive to the vet she tried to climb up into the front seat to help drive. Sweet girl!

Leonard is named for the Big Bang Theory star. He just arrived from the Goodman Kennel at the Sanford Orlando. He also raced at Orange Park in Jacksonville. Leonard only ever won 1 race and mostly finished toward the back of the pack. He raced at 73lbs and will turn 3 on March 5th. His sire is Hi Noon Hero and his dam is WW Adore's Me. Leonard is a friendly, happy boy. He is usually pretty quiet in his crate but does occasionally make a little noise. Like a lot of boys, he will need some supervision at first in a new home because he did try to mark at first in his foster home. He enjoys being outside as much as inside and travels well. He is doing well with the small white dog in his foster home and was scared of a kitten that hissed at him at the vet's office. He seems like a really nice boy that will settle in about anywhere and SO gorgeous! Leonard is a little nervous around a toddler that visits his foster home frequently and backs away from him. He probably wouldn't be the best choice for a family with very small kids.

He passed his cat and small dog tests at the track so should be fine to live with either. Johnny was picked as a good candidate for service dog work. He was in an adoptive home for just a little while and was returned recently because he wasn't good with their tiny dogs walking and jumping on him. Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Johnson, Greenville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Alexander family in Augusta GA 11/23/16

Armor originally came in from a kennel closing at the Daytona Beach race track. He also raced at Sanford Orlando and Derby Lane race and has 66 races listed. It doesn't look like he won one race but he did place some. His sire is Bob's Skeet and his dam is Prairies Eagle. Armor turned 4 on June 24th. He is very calm, friendly and well behaved. Armor is a tall, leggy guy that raced at 76lbs. Armor is very good on leash and enjoys going for walks. He has already been living in a apartment and is very quiet in his kennel so would be perfect for someone needing a quiet apartment dog. He was also living as an only dog for a year so should also be an excellent choice for someone that wants an only greyhound. His trainer had 3 older children that work at the kennel with her and he was very good with them. His recent owner said Armor usually chooses to avoid real small loud kids though. Armor can be a bit grumpy about his space when laying down, so we have him listed as no kids even though he enjoyed being around the older kids that worked with him at the kennel. Armor passed his cat and small dog tests easily with no interest in chasing either. He is doing fine with the small dog in his foster home too. Armor is a grinner! It is a cute thing that just a few greyhounds do when they are happy or excited. He also has one other quirky thing about him - he can wag his tail straight up and down as well as side to side! Armor has been in an adoptive home for a little over a year so is already home acclimated, well behaved and has good house manners. The only reason he is available again is because his dad took a job that forces him to travel every week. Armor has been boarded a lot recently and his dad feels it isn't fair to him. If you want a tall handsome boy Armor could by your guy. Armor has settled in well to his foster home. He is a very nice boy that seems like he would be an easy addition for some lucky family. Such a laid back guy, but he does love to get silly and do zoomies occasionally in the backyard. Very friendly and loving.

Astro retired from Palm Beach race track where he only raced one maiden race. He was so far behind the other dogs in that race that he wasn't even in the picture. Astro may not have been a great racer like his famous dad, Dodgem By Design, but he is going to be a great pet. He has a friendly, outgoing personality. His mom's name was Jinnie and Tonic. Astro is young and just turned 2 on April 1st. He was in an adoptive home with children for a month or two but we decided he would do better in a home with no kids after he showed that he could be possessive over toys and his space with the youngest of the two kids. Astro has been very well behaved in his foster homes and they haven't reported seeing that behavior. He has been fostered for awhile so already has good house manners and is home acclimated.

Pet/Kennel Name:

Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Erskine, Simpsonville SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Bailey Family of Charlotte NC 11/19/16

Babs was good racer that got up to the top AA Level at Tri State in WV and then went to Wheeling in WV. She retired in September of 2011 from racing to a second career as a mother. She was moved to Kansas and had a total of 20 pups in 3 litters in 2012, 2014 and 2015. Babs raced at 68lbs. Her sire is the famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Kiowa Brownsugar. Babs turned 8 on March 26th. She moved to the Birmingham Track Adoption Kennel in hopes of finding a good home in March of this year and is still looking. She has become a favorite of the staff there and even traveled with them when they delivered dogs to other adoption groups. We met Babs on her way back from a trip up to Maine and decided to bring her in to one of our foster homes. Because of her travels Babs has been in homes, hotels, has camped and traveled in a big box truck. Nothing seems to bother her and she loves traveling and meeting people.  She kennels well and enjoys life. Babs did not pass her cat test so needs a home with no cats. She gets along well with medium to large dogs but has had mixed results with very small dogs that move fast. She was very good with one she met, but she wanted to chase some others. Although she was a good mom, and fine with her small puppies, we think she would do better in a home without small dogs that look like squirrels or bunnies. Although she did have some potty accidents when she first arrived, Babs has quickly gotten over that and no longer has any accidents in her foster home. Because she is 8 years old, Babs qualifies for our reduced $200 adoption fee. Babs is a bouncy, happy girl with an excellent, confident personality and a lot of it. She happily bounces to meet any guests that come over and her foster home is working on getting her to tone her greetings down a bit. She may be an older girl, but no one told her that. Babs would be perfect for a family that travels a lot and wants a dog that can go with them. She is a waggy, happy girl!

Her sire is Little Andy and her dam is WS White Sale. She is used to being around the kids of her trainer at the racing kennel. They help their mom with turnouts and feeding the dogs. Almond is a sweet girl that passed her cat test with just a little initial interest. She lost interest quickly though. She has been fine with the cats in her foster home since she walked in. Almond is a pretty calm, well behaved girl that is perfect on leash. She enjoyed snuggling with her foster mom when she laid down near her on the floor. More as we get to know her.

Showy is a beautiful, black, female greyhound that doesn't look 8 years old at all. She hardly has any gray on her face and is a real beauty. She raced 94 races at Mobile, Bluffs Run and Palm Beach. She got up to the top A level. She raced at 66lbs and just turned 8 on April 10th. Her sire is the famous Trent Lee and her dam is WW's Kool Show. Showy was sent back to the farm after her racing career was over to be a mom. She had a litter of 11 puppies in January of 2013 that are racing now. She also just weaned a litter of puppies. She came to us from the farm in Abilene Kansas and is ready for her own couch, after retiring from her second career. She is friendly and happy meeting people and is curious about her surroundings and not a bit timid. She can be a bit bossy and is quick to correct wild puppy behavior as you would expect from a momma dog. She seems like a confident, happy girl. She has been living with cats and she showed no prey drive toward a small white dog in her foster home. Because Showy is an older girl she qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $200.

She raced all of her 90 races at Daytona Beach. Her last race was in May so she has been waiting for some time for an adoption group to take her. Hollow raced at 64lbs but has put on some weight since she retired and is a bit on the pudgy side now according to her trainer.  She loves to eat. She turned 3 on February 5th. Her sire is the famous Kelsos Fusileer and her dam is WW's Deathvalley. Like all of the dogs from this kennel she is used to having the children of her trainer, ages 5 to 11, working with her and handling her. She passed her cat test at the kennel and should be fine to live with cats and small dogs. She is a very outgoing happy girl that wags a lot and even does the famous greyhound grin! She is a bouncy happy girl that is a bit higher energy. Hollow complained some the first night after she arrived, so may not be the best choice for apartment or townhouse living. He raced 75 races all at that track and has been retired since March 22nd waiting on an adoption group to take him. Ramsey turned 3 on February 25th. His sire is Mama's Special Ed and his dam is SE's Vonnie C. Ramsey has dry eye and needs eye drops for that condition according to our vet. He is a very calm well behaved boy. He is used to being around his trainer's kids ages 5-11 that help out at the kennel. Ramsey was a little interested in the first cat he met, but quickly lost all interest after the cat slapped him. He has been wonderful with the fluffy white cat in his foster home so we think he would do well in a home with cats. He should also be fine to live with small dogs. He is a sweet, calm boy that should be an easy first or third greyhound.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Miller Family of Charlotte NC 10/29/16

Vegas is an extra tall black male that raced at a thin 83lbs. For his weight, he has long legs, narrow body and tiny head. His back is hip high and he is as tall as some of our tallest 90+ lb boys. He is a super sweet boy that earned the nickname "Velcro" at the adoption kennel at the Birmingham Track. He would follow their staff around as they were working and lean on them every chance he got. He loves people. Vegas raced 116 races at a bunch of different tracks. Starting out at Mardi Gras, then Naples Ft Myers, Flagler then Palm Beach. He never actually raced in Birmingham but we got him from that track adoption group. Vegas is a very calm guy that is good on leash. He turned 4 years old on April 2nd. His sire is Flupa's Crackerbox and his grandsire Dave the Dog actually retired and lived in Piedmont SC, so we knew him too. His dam is Super By Design. Vegas needs to be tested with cats but he was fine with the the small dog in his foster home. Because of his extra large size, Vegas will need an extra tall 48 inch long crate. The standard 48" inch long crates are only 32 inches high and his back rubs on the top. He needs an extra tall 48" long crate that is 36" high or a 54 inch long great dane size crate that is even higher. Vegas travels really well. He was pretty loud in his kennel the first night but settled and has been quiet since so may be OK as an apartment dog. Vegas was diagnosed with Pannus which is an eye problem pretty common in greyhounds that can cause blindness if not treated with daily eye drops. The eye drops are not expensive and should control the disease if given daily. He should avoid long term sun exposure because that can make the eyes worse. He would look very cute in a pair of doggles (doggy sunglasses). His eyes look fine and it isn't something that the average person would even notice. It was caught very early and there is only a very tiny spot on the corner of one eye.

Good w/ Children:

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Smith Family of Blue Ridge GA 10/28/16

Marcy is a white female with black spots that is a very special girl. She has an esophogeal disorder that caused her to throw up when she ate, so she was very tiny and the runt of the litter. She barely survived. Eventually her owner figured out why she was so thin and smaller than her littermates. Marcy had to be fed separately out of a raised feeder and needed softened food that was easy to swallow to keep from choking on it. Her racing owner hoped she would eventually grow out of the problem as she got older, but she didn't. Marcy never raced because of her issue. Her racing owner didn't think that anyone would want to adopt a girl that had this disorder, so just planned to keep her on the farm as a pet for her whole life. We know there is a special family out there for Marcy, in spite of her disorder. We have placed other dogs with the same problem. Although Marcy is small for a female greyhound, she is healthy. As you can see from the photos she is able to maintain a good weight using the raised feeder and making sure her food is very soft. She does need to be walked on a harness instead of using a collar to avoid pressure on her esophagus but that is her main limitation. Marcy is a sweet, friendly girl that loves everyone she meets. She turned 7 on April 20th. Her sire is Ardkill Jamie and her dam is JT's Petey Girl. We placed her littermate Hanks Luckycharm and DDM's Dynamite years ago. Marcy is very well behaved in a house and very quiet in her crate so may be a good choice for an apartment. She passed her cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. Be sure to look at Marcy's other photos to see pictures of her as a puppy. She is the tiny one in the group. Marcy has been fostered with kids and cats and is great with both. She is a snuggler that likes to be as close as possible. She loves to cuddle in bed with her foster family- kids and adults. Although she would like to be up on the couch with her family, she doesn't like her feet going between the cushions on the couch. So she figured out that sleeping on the ottoman was a better place for her. Marcy has been in an adoptive home but was unable to hold her pee all day while they worked. They think she would do better in a home where people weren't gone all day. We are getting her checked for a urinary tract infection, since she didn't have this problem in her previous foster homes.

We think she would be trainable with close supervision at first with cats and she should be fine to live with small dogs. Pebbles complained a lot her first night after she arrived, so she may be too noisy to be an apartment dog. From there, Voter went to Southland in Arkansas and finally ended up racing in Daytona Beach. He raced 113 races in all. His last race was in December of 2015 and he has been waiting on an adoption group to take him since then. His sire is EM's Mac Attack and his dam is Gale WW Von Kay. He is used to being around his trainers kids ages 5 to 11 at the track kennel. His trainer says this guy is really chilled. If the other dogs get excited about something and run and bark, he doesn't even join in. He is friendly and will seek out attention from his trainer and likes to just hang out. He has settled into foster care very easily and doesn't seemed stressed at all. He was laying on his back on a dog bed with his feet in the air by the second day in a home, He passed his cat test easily and didn't get excited about the cat either. So he should be fine to live with cats and small dogs. Voter is a quiet guy that is being fostered in a townhouse so should be fine for apartment or townhouse living. He has a gorgeous glossy black coat and is pretty good on leash. Voter would be an easy first or third greyhound.

Miley is a calm, quiet, dark brindle girl that was picked as an easy first time foster for a new foster home. She just arrived from the Daytona Beach Race Track on Wednesday Oct 19th. Miley is a tall girl racing at 68lbs. She turned 3 on April 17th. Her sire is Lord Dempsey and her dam is Fuzzys Rushmore. She is used to being around kids ages 4-11, because her trainer's children help out in the kennel after school. Miley only raced 7 races and has been waiting at the track for a group to take her since she retired at the beginning of April. Miley passed her initial cat test but got very excited about the cats she saw at the vets office. Her foster home has cats and they have tried to work with her with them but she has stayed focused and is not loosing interest in them so she will need a home with no cats. Miley seems like a sweet, sensitive girl that is just a little overwhelmed by all the changes in her life. She cried most of the night the first night in her foster home so may not be a good apartment dog.

Apple is a black female greyhound that originally came in from the Melbourne Race Track in Florida. She raced 89 races, mostly at Bluffs Run in IA. She was a good racer getting up to the top A level and even competing in a Stakes race. She broke her leg in her last race on January 21st. She had surgery at the track to fix it and made a complete recovery because of the wonderful rehab given to her by Pro Greyhound and over $1100 in donations from greyhound owners across the country for her surgery. She was adopted a few months ago but had a couple of disagreements with another female greyhound in the home so she is available again. We think she would do better in a home without other female dogs because she can be pretty bossy. She did not pass her cat test so needs a home with no cats. Apple raced at 62lbs and her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Yahoo Olivia. Apple is a very outgoing sweet friendly girl. She is calm and gives kisses and enjoys laying upside down and in some very unusual positions. She is a very confident girl that would be likely to be the dominant dog in the pack. She showed no desire to chase the small dogs she has met and is good with ones she meets casually. Because she is big and can be bossy occasionally we don't think she should be placed in a home with small dogs. If you want an only dog that is very friendly and sweet Apple is your girl!

She went to Wheeling WV, then back to Florida to Mardi Gras and on to Sanford Orlando, where we picked her up. She raced 84 races and won a lot of those including top level stakes races. Bonnie has it all, good with cats, kids and other dogs of all sizes. She is gorgeous and has a great personality. She took no time at all to get comfortable in her home and settled right in. She also raced briefly at Orange Park. Saber's sire is the famous Flying Coal City and her dam is FTK Foxboro. She is used to being around kids because her trainer has 4 kids that come to work with her in the kennel. Saber has been pretty overwhelmed by the move from her racing kennel. She is pretty timid so far and is afraid to go outside. Her foster family has been taking her out on leash to do her business and staying out with her in the yard. She does potty well on leash so she may do fine in a home without a fenced yard. Her trainer says she is a very friendly, silly, playful girl once she gets comfortable. Saber seems like the type that will warm up but change definitely can be overwhelming for her. So far she seems to prefer the comfort of being in her crate. She will come out to say Hello then will go back in to nap.

Cinder (formerly Dauber) came in initially from the Sanford Orlando track. He is an extra large guy that raced at 82lbs. He raced 6 races and won only one of those. He just turned 3 on August 14th so is a young guy. His sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is Danu. Cinder is a white male with red spots with just a few brindle stripes in the spots. He is a very calm, friendly boy that will lean against you and put his head on your lap. He travels well and crates very quietly. When he did lay down, if one of the other dogs fussed at him he would stand back up and try to avoid trouble. Seems like a gentle giant and a very polite boy. He is great on leash and is not a marker inside or outside. Cinder passed his cat and small dog tests and did well with a toddler that was at his first foster home. He has been in an adoptive home for nearly a year and did great with them. Shortly after they went on a long trip out of the country and moved their dogs in with their parents, there was an altercation between their two greyhound boys. They felt that it would be better to rehome Cinder since he was the most recent addition. No one was home when it happened, so we don't know what happened. Cinder has a couple small tears in his ear and the other dog had to have stitches. Because we don't know what happened or why, even though Cinder has always been wonderful with other dogs, he may need to be an only dog. Cinder has no prey drive toward small dogs or cats and seems like a very gentle guy that has always avoided trouble. On his trip back to us from Oklahoma, a bossy girl kept barking and growling at him over her space. He just curled up in the corner as far away as he could get from her and looked scared. He didn't bark or growl back or even look at her.

Tyty just arrived from the Daytona Beach Race Track. He raced 74 races. Most of his races were in Daytona Beach but he raced briefly at Orange Park and Derby Lane too. Tyty's sire is the famous Flying Pensky and his dam is Cajun Fantasy. We placed a full brother of his named Swiper too so we are excited to get him. Tyty is a medium sized male racing at 73lbs. He is described as being "a love" very sweet and friendly and a calm, laid back guy. Tyty is used to being around kids, his trainer has 4 kids that help out in her kennel. He is a very friendly guy. Nothing seems to bother him. He loves people and attention so much so that we thought he would be a good dog for meet and greets and our folks that perform at the Renaissance Festivals. His new family is going to call him Nox and he will be a new member of the Renaissance re-enactment group Hounds of East Fairhaven.

Charlie Sheen fans, here is your chance to cuddle with him on your couch! Charlie is a gorgeous, tall, 75lb, black male that will turn 7 on December 27th. He retired from the Naples Ft Myers Track in May of 2016. He also raced at Palm Beach, Flagler and Mardi Gras tracks. Charlie Sheen was a very good racer and was the 2014 Celebrity Champion at Naples Ft Myers, he was also the 2014 Palm Beach He's My Man Finalist and the 2013 Palm Beach Dick Andrews Futurity finalist. He raced 170 races. Charlie's sire is Yahoo Omar and his dam is Flying Lakeside. This guy was a champion. Charlie has a beautiful glossy coat and is very handsome. He has ears that both go straight up when he is excited. Charlie only ever had one accident in his foster home and is very well behaved. He is not destructive and doesn't get into anything when he is left home alone. The worst thing he has ever done is to tear up a napkin or two. He is good with other dogs and trainable with cats. He hasn't been around kids much but always is happy to see them on outings.

Pipsqueak came in initially from the Sanford Orlando Race track. She is a tiny female racing at just 53lbs which is where she got her name. Her sire is Afleet Alex and her dam is Xtreme Effort. She will turn 4 October 11th. Pipsqueak raced 85 races at Tri-State, Orange Park and finally Sanford Orlando. She was mainly successful at the lower levels of racing but did win quite a few races. She did great with the 11 month old toddler in her foster home and seemed to like him. She is also good with the small dogs and was afraid of the cat she met. She is a friendly girl that seems pretty calm. She was initially a little noisy in her crate but quieted right down after she got corrected for it. She travels well. Pipsqueak has been in an adoptive home since November but has shown signs of stress as an only dog. A move to a new house made her even more stressed. Her family thinks that she will do better if she goes to a home with at least one other dog.

Spirit just arrived from the Goodman Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He also raced at Orange Park in Jacksonville. He raced 45 races and only won 4 races. He placed some, even though he didn't move up into the higher levels. He stayed at C and D level. He is pretty smart because he figured out how to get off his muzzle in the starting box and raced a few races without his racing muzzle on. Spirit is a tall boy that raced at 80lbs. He will turn 3 on October 3rd. His sire is Grenade and his dam is Hope of Glory. Spirit is a very friendly guy that likes people. He was interested in the cat at first but after the cat slapped him decided he should not put his nose near cats anymore. He did fine with the small dog he met. He has been loud off and on in his kennel since he arrived so probably would not be a good apartment dog.

Willy just arrived from the Palm Beach Race track. He never actually raced there. In schooling races he would try to chase the lure but could only run slowly around the track and couldn't keep up with the other greyhounds at all. So he retired without an official race. When we took him to our vet we found out there was a reason that he couldn't run. He has a very weak heart that is failing. Our vet guesses that Willy only has about a year to live. Our vet decided to adopt him and give him the best care and meds he can possibly have in what little time he has left. Willy is a sweet, brindle boy that is very loving. His sire is Kiowa Wish Frank and his dam is Rosalina. He is a very young guy that won't even turn 2 until October 29th.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted to the Gee family of Charlestons SC, 8.6.2016

Backbone had plenty of nicknames at the track and was also called BB and Baby. She was a bit shy and overwhelmed when she first came in but warmed up fast and is very friendly now with most people. There have only been a few men she was a little shy around. She came in from the Daytona Race Track. She only raced 20 races there and only won one of those, but did place a few times. Her sire is WW Always N Ever and her dam is WW's Brute Force. Backbone raced at 62lbs and just turned 2 on July 6th. She was very worried about the tile floors in her foster home at first but she has completely gotten over that now so she just needs a little time to get used to anything she thinks is scary and she adjusts. She just needs a little time to get comfortable in a new place. BB did great with the kids and all the people she met at a very busy meet and greet at a pet store recently. She gains confidence every day and has become a very friendly dog that is very devoted and wants to be with people. She is doing great in her foster home and is usually quiet in her kennel. She seems like a girl that would be OK as an only dog because she pays more attention to her foster mom than the other dogs in her home. She does get along well with other dogs though. This is a cute sweet girl that will be very loving and devoted to her new family. She loves to play with toys.
