Greyhound Crossroads

Dee is a tiny, light fawn brindle girl without many stripes. She was too shy for a kennel situation and they had difficulty catching her after races. Her trainer thinks she will blossom in a quiet home and be a loving pet though. Like most shy dogs she probably would do best in a home with quiet, older children or no children because she may be frightened by yelling and fast movement. Dee crates quietly and loves her crate. Like most shy greyhounds, she sees it as her safe place. She is curious and wants to interact and will come up and bump you with her nose but then quickly back away. Dee seems to be more comfortable with women than men. Link to her pedigree

Update on Dee from her foster home: She is doing very well. She is very shy, but very curious. She wants to know what everything is, but is often scared. She's got guts, though, because she will slowly come back again and again until she can figure out the new thing. She loves being outside with all of the smells and sights. She is also getting more and more comfortable with handling. In fact, she makes sure that she is always in the same room that I am in. If I move, she is right behind me. She loves getting petted, but is still a little scared to come up and ask for love. But with a little coaxing she will generally come get a few scratches. Dee is a very good eater! She loves her food!! She is a complete fool for any kind of meat and also cheddar cheese.

Dee had her first trip to the beach last night, and she loved it! She even did reasonably well with the people on the beach. She did let a couple of people pet her, which is very impressive, since she is so shy. She was completely unafraid of the water, and just walked right in. She wasn't the least bit fazed by the waves washing up on her feet, either. She had a wonderful time exploring all of the new smells. She is completely comfortable with other dogs of all sizes, and still hasn't given my cats so much as a sniff. This is one super sweet girl. She is going to make a devoted companion, and is going to be a little velcro girl. She just needs some time to gain some confidence.

Update: Once Dee learned to trust her foster mom she has bonded very tightly and is very loving. She is still wary of strangers but is getting better. She gets along great with other dogs and cats.

Homer is a tiny little guy that is as sweet and friendly as he can be. He has a glossy black coat and is a real head turner. Homer is a fun playful guy that is curious about everything. He walks great on leash.  He is a real leaner and will stand with his body wrapped around your legs for as long as you stand there. if you move he will too and lean on you again. He was so happy to be at our recent Petco greyhound meet and greet. He thought everyone was there just to pet him and he was in heaven. Homer crates quietly but would prefer to be out with his people. This is a tiny, little lover boy that is going to be a great addition to a lucky family. Link to his pedigree

Lily is a sweet little black girl that is barely more than a pup. She was born on 8/4/08. Lily passed her cat and small dog test so should be able to live with either. Lily is doing great in foster care and gets along well with the other dogs there. She has a submissive nature so will probably always do her best to be good and please her family. She is a joy to be around! Lily is a half sister to Chato and CurlyQ, two of our other available dogs.

Baby is a young girl and doesn't even turn two until August 1st. She seems to be very well mannered with other dogs and people greeting everyone with a submissive posture and friendly puppy kisses. She is very friendly and seems to like children. Baby passed her cat and small dog test so could live in a home with either. She was a kennel favorite at the track and her trainer wished she could keep her and had a hard time letting her go. Her trainer recommended her for the first time foster home she is in thinking she would be an easy girl that would try to please. Baby likes to play with balls and loves to get in the water in the baby pool. She likes to go for walks but doesn't not go potty on walks so is one that is going to need a fenced yard to potty in. Cracker Barrel is a tall, beautiful, nearly all white girl with just some brindle spots on her ears and over one eye and some freckles in her fur. She is well behaved and easy going and absolutely nothing phases her. Cracker Barrel is very friendly and loves to play and run around. She likes to go for rides and travels really well. She is getting along wonderfully with the cats and small dogs in her foster home too. She is picking up the rules of living in a house very quickly and seems like a girl that will be a wonderful loving, fun, pet. Although she looks very regal, Cracker Barrel does have a fun, silly side and does like to play with toys. Cracker Barrel is a half sister to several of our other available dogs, Jet, Drama and Jeserell. We have adopted out quite a few pups from this line and they all seem to have exceptional personalities.

Chato just arrived. She broke her leg recently so was retired from racing. The break doesn't seem to be a bad one so she should be fine to run around and play in a month or so after it heals. She will be in a splint until it heals. Her trainer describes her as a tiny, bubbly girl that follows her around trying to get her attention. She is a tiny 53lb white and black girl with two big black spots on her back that resemble angel wings and some smaller black freckles (ticking). She did great at her first dog event and would go up calmly to people and lean against them to be petted. Chato seems to like to travel and will hop up on the seat and lay down for the ride. She has done great with the very small dogs and cats in her foster home so should be fine living with either. Chato is a half sister to Lily and CurlyQ, two of our other available girls. Update: Hi! my name's Chato. My hobbies include loving on you, leash walks, and snuggling. Ok ok, I love eating too! What i'm looking for in a family is someone to love me back, help me stretch my legs a lil, and keep my food bowl full. I'm a very good girl, i just want to make you happy. I don't mind having brothers and sisters but i'm ok with being an only child too. If littler dogs growl at me or snap I just walk away. I am such a good girl. I learned to go potty on a leash really good, and i can even walk on slick floors like hardwood and tile with my splint. So they tell me I could live in an apartment or without a fenced yard. My leg is healing up so well that you can barely tell where I broke it now, I can hardly wait until I can run around and play again. I am a pretty low energy girl so don't require much exercise. I would be perfect for a low energy owner that likes to just go for short walks.

This very young guy just arrived and is already settling in to his foster home well. Jet has mastered the stairs and eats politely with other dogs around. He has showed no interest in chasing small animals or cats so should be fine with either. Jet seems to like children so should be fine in a home with kids too. He is friendly and loves people so seems like he will be a great pet. What a cute pup! Those heavily lined Egyption eyes are really hard to resist. Vanna was a kennel favorite while racing because of her sweet, friendly, calm disposition. The fact that she is so beautiful probably played a part in that too. Vanna is around 64lbs and so far seems to be pretty laid back and quiet. She wants to stay near people and will often lean up against you. She travels well and seems to like to go. She seems to have a very low prey drive and had no interest in chasing small dogs or cats. This is a super sweet girl that even stands out in a kennel full of dogs. Vanna loves to play with toys and likes rope toys and stuffed animals best. She will throw them around and pounce on them.

Update after adoption: Vanna was adopted a couple of times but kept coming back to her foster home. They finally decided that she was going to stay - she had known she was supposed to all along. Vanna now promotes greyhound adoption at greyhound events in the Charlotte area.

Rhythm is a stunning, medium sized male. He is friendly with people and seems like he is going to be a great guy. He passed his cat and small dog test so should be able to live with either. Although he was initially a marker he has learned quickly that he can't mark in the house and is doing great on his potty training. Rhythm is playful outside and tries to get his foster sister to join him running around the backyard. He seems to get along well with other dogs. He is a very happy, sweet loving guy that loves attention. Another great guy that should be a fantastic pet. His pedigree

Update after adoption: Paws lives with another greyhounds and regularily attends adoption events to promote greyhound adoption. His favorite things are running in the yard with his greyhound sister Blondie and snuggling with his human dad, Ken.

Toast is a very large, very handsome red male at 80lbs. His nose is probably the longest we have ever seen because of his large size combined with an overbite. He is a true needle nose and is truly a one of a kind. He is very friendly and would love to be a lap dog. He is a couch potato and will sit next to you and rest his head on the back of your shoulders. Toast is quite the snuggler already. He travels well and will choose to sit on the seat and look out the window if allowed. He is a great guy that gets along well with other dogs of all sizes and is quite the gentle giant. He would probably be an excellent Therapy dog because of his fiendly nature and easy going personality. His sire is Gable Judges and his dam is Whytell Colorado.

Opium is a beautiful black girl with personality to match. She's settled into foster care immediately with absolutely no problems at all. She crates quietly, has been totally clean in the house, and comes back in from the fenced back yard when called. She doesn't have any symptoms of separation anxiety and gets along quite peacefully with the other dogs in her foster home. Opium loves attention and puts on a little "wiggle-butt" show when talked to. She is not cat safe and hasn't been tested with very small children yet, but she did just fine with the older children who have already visited with her. This is a great dog who should be a perfect first greyhound or the next addition to an established pack....perfect just about anywhere! Her sire is the famous Flying Penske and her dam is Frisby Fin.

Heather came in from the Orlando Track after only 2 races. Her sire is JB Junior B and her dam is MJG Jellybean. She raced at 58lbs and was born on Sept 16, 2007. Heather is a sweet, friendly girl after she warms up a bit. She can be a little shy initially though. She is quiet and well behaved and will follow you around after a little while. She is tolerant of the small dogs in her foster home. Heather just arrived, more as we get to know her.

Mackie was a good racer that raced 96 races at the top level. She placed 3rd in the 2005 Derby Lane Distance Classic Stakes Race so she was quite the champion racer. She raced at 61lbs so is a mid sized female. Her sire is Craigie Mo Town and her dam is Greys Free Fire. She was born on June 2nd of 2003 so will be 7 in June. After she retired from racing she had one litter of 9 puppies in 2008. Now she is ready for a couch of her own.

Kisses came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track but also raced at the Naples Ft Myers track. She only has 11 races to her credit so wasn't very good as a racer. She is a sweet girl full of personality. She has the cutest tiny ears that stand straight up. Her ears have a few dark gray or black speckles but the rest of her is white with just a few large light gray dalmation type spots. She has no large patches of color at all. Kisses is about 57lbs. This cutie is a busy little girl that is curious about everything and very friendly. Her tail wags furiously when she sees you. She seems to crate well and passed her small dog test. This is a friendly girl that will be a great pet. Her sire is Craigie Whistler and her dam is Flying Valentine. Her DOB is 8/19/2006

Sara was born Feb 4th of 2005. She raced at Valley race track in Texas and Dubuque before moving Woodlands in Kansas. From there she went to the Birmingham race track and retired from there in Jan 2009. A family adopted her directly from her trainer along with a male greyhound. Sara ended up having an accidental litter of pups in Jan of 2010 which is how we ended up with her. Her family couldn't financially care for her and the pups and she was relinquished to an adoption group and eventually moved with some of her pups to our adoption group. Sara was an excellent mom to her pups for 5 months before being adopted by the Roepke family of Columbia, SC. Sara was small, friendly, brindle, beauty with a waggy tail and a fun, playful personality. Sara was good with cats, kids and small dogs and everyone she met. Her favorite thing was to play at a dog park and was the rare greyhound that could run every day and keep up with other breeds energy wise. Of course she was much faster than the rest of them. Sara loved to go for rides and walks and was her owners "best friend". We had get togethers with Sara and her pups and she always remembered them. Sara passed away suddenly 12/26/12 of unknown causes at just 7 years old.

Pretty little Daisy is another Economy Return. This very tiny (about 50lbs) girl is a happy sweet girl that will love her family. She has already lived in a home for years so is home acclimated and has good house manners. She has lived with small dogs and gets along well with everyone. She is calm and laid back so would be a great dog for a busy home without much time to exercise a dog. Daisy loves her naps and often chooses to sleep in her crate. This a great girl that has a lot of love to give that will fit quickly into just about any family. Daisy raced 84 races at Bluffs Run, Dubuque, VictoryLand and finally retired from JCKC in June of 2006. She did get up to A level. Her sire is Scott Free and her dam is Whoopie On By. She was born 7/17/02.

Heidi is just the cutest little girl! She only raced 6 races that we could find at Flagler and she raced at 49lbs so she is very very tiny for a greyhound. Her sire is Wes Cooley and her dam is JC's Sweetmelody. DOB 5/22/06. Heidi originally was adopted through another group that has shut down in the Augusta GA area. She has been in a home for some time and was returned through no fault of her own. She is fine with cats, small dogs and kids and is playful and happy. She is just a tiny bit shy at first with new people, but warms up quickly. She is very well behaved and has great house manners already so should fit into a new home very quickly.

Chris is a really sweet guy and another perfect example of the Economy Returns we're seeing so much of right now. Although his family could no longer keep him, he's ready for a new life through no fault of his own. He is such a good boy and would be perfect for the first time Greyhound owner. He is a big, dark brindle male, full of silliness and playfulness. Chris loves attention, gives kisses and grins for his humans! Gets along well with small dogs and cats. This guy is tall dark and handsome with personality plus! He and Motif (another of our available hounds) look like twins. Anyone for a matched pair?

Motif is a very sweet loving boy that was returned because his family was relocating and couldn't take him with them. He ended up being heartworm positive so underwent treatment. He has made a full recovery and has been released by our vet for adoption. This is a guy who has already learned the ropes of life in a house so will make a wonderful easy addition for just about any family. Motif has lived with cats and small children and is currently living with small dogs so should be able to fit into just about any home. He is a well behaved boy with good house manners. He is talkative and will get louder sometimes when left alone, so might not be the best dog for an apartment. Motif would however be an excellent watch dog. He is the rare greyhound that will actually alert you whenever someone comes onto the property. He is barking with joy and wants attention, so isn't a guard dog at all - just a wonderful watch dog. Motif is a lower energy guy that is great on leash and likes to go for walks but isn't going to require a lot of exercise so would be perfect for a lower energy owner. He is a very devoted loving boy that absolutely adores his people and wants to be beside you all the time. He likes to play with other dogs and but LOVES to be with people even more. A great guy and so CUTE! Motif has been chosen by the GC membership for sponsorship, plus an individual member has generously donated $50 toward his adoption fee! Motif's fee will now be only $150!

Gilligan race 13 races at the Birmingham Race Track. He never won one of those races so he retired young. Gilligan was picked out at the track by his foster mom Sarah. He has fit in and is doing so well that she has decided that he will be staying with her. Gilligan's sire is the famous Jimbo Scotty and his dam is Jo Jo Mcneal. He was born on Sept 27 2006.

Angel raced in Dubuque and in Birmingham before retiring in 2004. She raced at 66lbs and her sire was Dominator and her dam was RJ's Avalanche. Her birthday was Aug 28/2001. She was in a home for quite a few years and sadly was an economic return at 8.5 years old. She was re-adopted by the Makosiej family 4/12/2010 and had a wonderful life with them. Angel was a sweet calm girl who wanted nothing more than some petting and ear scritches. She got along great with other dogs and all people including the 3 kids in her adoptive home. She had great manners and was just an angel that lit up her family's life every day. Angel lost her battle with bone cancer on Jan 19, 2012 at 10.5 years old.

ScoobyDoo is a beautiful boy and very good too! He is a big guy that raced at 80lbs that is still a playful pup at heart. He has those sweet big eyes with lots of eyeliner that will melt the heart of a greyhound-lover! He has showed no interest in chasing cats or small dogs so could live with either.  Scooby seeks out the company of children when he has been around them. When visiting our vet for his neuter, he made lots of friends there playing with the staff. This guy has personality plus and was one of the kennel favorites at the track because of his silly happy personality - it was also what got him his nickname of Scooby Doo. Nothing seems to bother him and he will want to do whatever you are doing. This is a guy that just wants to be with you although he will happily crate if you are gone.

Update after adoption: Scooby Doo has been renamed Chase and is now a Therapy Dog!

Chase crossed the bridge in 2014 due to what the vets believed was a brain tumor.

Nitika is a cute little girl that already has a lot of white on her face for her age. She has a sweet, outgoing, curious personality. Natika has been tested more than once with cats and may be trainable for an owner with experience in introductions and training but is very interested initially. She passed her small dog test after initial curiosity and sniffing and has responded well to small dogs that approach on walks. Her foster family reports that she has adjusted to her new life quickly and is doing amazingly well. She is very sociable, loves attention from visitors, and hasn't displayed any separation anxiety when left alone. Nitika is already learning 'down' and has shown fast improvement on her leash manners. She is also doing fantastic on potty training and stairs. They describe her as an awesome dog! Update! Natika has been in foster care for awhile now and has perfect house manners and is great on leash. This girl is as sweet and as close to perfect as a girl could get. She is ready for a home!

Pat C Hot Seat is a huge, pretty red male with gorgeous 'eyeliner'. He's an Economy Return and has been vetted with a shiny new white smile to prove it! He lived very happily with little Italian Greyhounds in his previous home. He has made friends with everyone that the clinic where he's become a fast favorite. He even smiles when he is happy! Hot Seat is a soft, gentle, very well behaved boy who should be fine in almost any situation. His previous owner said that he was the best behaved of all of her dogs. Hot Seat is a true couch potato and one of his favorite things is to curl up next to you on the sofa. His sire is the famous Flying Train and his dam is Westar Sheila. DOB 7/19/02

Mickey is a beautiful boy who is very happy and outgoing and has the cutest ears! He is also very sweet and will lay his head in your lap to have his ears and neck rubbed. Mickey has a goofy, fun personality and would make someone a wonderful companion. He is smart, eager to please, and listens well and has learned to sit on command. Mickey enjoys running around and playing in the yard with the other dogs in his foster home. However, he would also do well as an only dog since he is not dependent on the other greyhounds. He gets along wonderfully with other greyhounds and is very respectful of other dogs. Mickey does well with smaller dogs and is getting better with cats every day, although he is still very curious about them. He walks well on leash, although he gets a bit excited and is very curious in new situations. Mickey crates well although it may take him a little time to settle down if he is crated away from the family at night. Mickey is a graduate of our TriCounty Tech Partnership Program where the staff and students at TriCounty Tech love this beautiful boy and became very attached to him.

Otto is one of two pups we got from an unplanned litter of greyhound puppies that couldn't be raced. He is outgoing and energetic and very sweet. His mom, Sara, is available for adoption too. Congratulations to the Clark family of Simpsonville on their new puppy! His Pedigree

Update after adoption: Otto has been a wonderful puppy! He gets together to play with his littermate Miles a couple of times a week. Recently all of the littermates got together with their mother to run and play. The boys grew up to be very tall good looking guys.

Dusty is a beautiful red female that just arrived from the JCKC Track in Florida. She raced there and at Seabrook. She got up to A level but only raced 37 races. Her sire is the famous Dodgem By Design and her dam is Red Hills Scream. She is a smaller girl racing at 56lbs. She was born on 12/30/06. Dusty passed her cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live in a home with either. Her foster home has decided to keep this pretty girl!

Dara is a sweet, very outgoing girl. She is very friendly and seems to love everyone both young and old and will follow the kids around in her foster home. Dara is accustomed to her crate and crates quietly with no problems and even prefers to take her naps in there. She also loves to carry stuffed toys and socks into her crate and make a pile to snuggle in. Dara is small dog safe but has shown some interest in her foster home kitties when they run but her foster mom is working with her on leaving the kitties alone. Her sire is the famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Yellow Daisy*. She raced 129 races at Naples Ft Myers and JCKC tracks. She wasn't a very good racer racing at lower levels at lower level tracks and rarely winning. If you want a sweet, friendly girl that will be great in just about any situation then Dara is the girl for you!

This handsome black boy with gold eyes is available for adoption. Bear only has 5 races listed and finished at the back of the pack in all of them. He raced at Palm Beach and Naples Ft Myers before his owners decided to retire him. He looks brown in the pictures because he was in a run with access to the outside. He spent so much time outside that his coat got very sunbleached. He is a black dog though. His sire is Fine Silver and his dam is JR's Prelude who we also placed. Bear raced at 67lbs so is a smaller guy. DOB 7/17/2007. Update after adoption: Bear can be seen at many of the Charlotte area adoption events helping encourage greyhound adoption. He loves to travel with his dad and is busy keeping a couple of puppies in line.

Miles arrived with his mother Sara and his brother Otto when the pups were 5 weeks old. The pups were the result of an unplanned breeding so could not be raced. Their mother Sara had been retired for awhile and is also available for adoption through Greyhound Crossroads. We also recieved a 3rd littermate Kohle later that was also adopted through our group. Update after adoption: Miles has been a great pup. He is sweet and outgoing. He does greyhound adoption events to promote greyhound adoption and is a performer with the Hounds of East Fairhaven which is a group that promotes greyhound adoptions at the Georgia and Carolina Renaissance Festivals. Miles earned his Canine Good Citizen title at 8 months old and does agility and obedience. He grew up into a very tall handsome guy. He still gets together with his brother Otto to play regularily and occasionally plays with Kohle. We also placed a littermate sister of theirs Piper. His mother Sara passed away in Dec of 2013.

Adrenaline is a wonderful boy. He grins as you can see in his photo. He snuggles and cuddles and is a real love bug. He is a little shy about loud noises and quick movements and seems more comfortable around women than men, but warms up quickly with a little patience. He is one of the few greyhounds I have ever met who loves to play fetch-bringing his squeaky toy back to you again and again. He hasn't done a single naughty thing in the house-no chewing-no accidents-no counter surfing-you would think he lived in a home all his life! And his greatest joy in life is snuggling up with his human. He loves the company of the other dogs-but would likely be fine as a single dog so he could have all your attention. Adrenaline does have a fractured metatarsal bone in his ankle that will be a chronic issue for him after hard exercise or running. He will need joint supplements and some type of pain management available the rest of his life. Right now he is on crate rest to stabilize that injury. Once he is done he should only be sore after really hard play and will always be able to join you on walks. He is a wonderful sweet boy just waiting for the perfect family.His Pedigree

Update after adoption: His foster family decided to keep him and he is now living with his actual mother.

Tequila is a sweet, happy, playful, older girl that was discovered wandering loose, starving and in horrible condition. She had been in an adoptive home for years but wasn't cared for and looked like she had even been attacked by another dog. This was one of the worst neglect cases we have seen. Tequila still looks pretty rough now and doesn't have much hair due to a skin condition that will require some baths a couple of times a week for awhile. We have made some progress already and soon Tequila will be back to her former beauty with some TLC. Tequila has great house manners and has fit into her foster home like she has always been there and enjoys playing with their greyhound. She is very friendly and is good with other dogs, cats and kids. Tequila is a good girl and is looking for a family that will love and appreciate her. She should be a wonderful easy addition to just about any family. Her sire is Flying Train and her dam is Marvelous Missy. She only has 2 races listed at the now closed Plainfield track. She was born on June 10th, 2000. Congratulations to her foster family that decided they couldn't let this one go!

Update after adoption: Tequila has become a meet and greet dog for Greyhound Crossroads! She attends events encouraging people to adopt greyhounds. She lives in the country and loves taking walks with her dad. She has completely gotten over her skin condition and has a healthy full coat now with only a few scars to remind her of her past. Ron, Gem, and CJ are all housemates coming back to start over because of Economy returns. Ron is the sweetest, most affectionate of the three and also the funniest. He loves to lay down with his head on your lap, and we will nudge for more pets and love. He is comfortable being the unassertive 'bottom dog' of the three pack members. He loves to "go crazy" by himself in the back yard, running in random patterns around the back yard at full speed, then will stop, crouch down, scratch up some dirt, and take off again. Ron loves the young son in his home and has always done great with him from birth. He's a dog that is most comfortable with his routine, loves people and loves to get attention from humans. He also is a great leash walker. His greatest fear is thunder and will do best in a place where he can get lots of love and patience. Ron raced 31 races at JCKC. He is a smaller guy racing at 67lbs. His sire is Neiland and his dam is Husker Chicago.

Chopin came to us from the Birmingham Race Course. He also raced a race at Southland in Arkansas. He is a pup of Dave the Dog who is a famous dog that retired and lives in our area. His dam is Tech Bomb. He was born on September 27th 2006. Chopin didn't race, long only 14 races are listed. Boy is this a handsome guy! Chopin is very outgoing and loves everyone he meets. He LOVES to go for rides and will hop right in and may even try to help you open the door. He seems like he is going to be a fun guy because he has loads of personality. He needs some work on his leash manners because he is very strong and very excited about seeing everything. Nothing seems to bother him, even new things. He takes everything in stride. This is one very happy go lucky guy. He does have a pretty strong prey drive and didn't pass his initial cat test. We need to do more testing with small dogs and kids.

CJ raced at Jefferson County Kennel Club at 77lbs until retiring in 2005 at 3 years old. He was in one home for a few years then was an economy return and was adopted a second time by the Aguilar family in 2010 when he was 7 years old. CJ is an unusual light fawn color that is nearly white. He was a big, sweet, affectionate boy with a great, laid back personality and just loved people in general. He loved for anyone to scratch his big head and back, and even seemed to smile. His favorite part of the day is taking an evening walk. When he heared the leash rattle, he came running and started jumping up and down. He was the lead dog in the pack, but he was a gentle leader who rarely asserted himself. CJ also enjoyed playing with his stuffy toys, but only when one of his people played with him. He was a well-balanced and well-behaved boy who was a great family member. He was great with kids and small dogs but chasing cats was something he enjoyed just a little too much.

His Pedigree

Dart raced at the now closed Raynam/Taunton Track in MA. He only has 11 races listed and only one win. He is a big guy that raced at 79lbs. His sire is RJ's Gary B and his dam is Reward Lady Bone. Dart came to us from another adoption group in hopes we could help him with some behavioral issues he was having with other dogs. They had already been working with him and did a great job. By the time we got him he did fine with the dogs in his foster home. He is even OK with a small dog in his foster home but still needs to be tested with cats.

Update after adoption: Dart seems to have overcome his aggression and lives with another dog now. He was working on becoming a therapy dog before he crossed the bridge.

Star is one of our favorites at the track kennel. When we go to pick up dogs she always greets us with enthusiasm and is a very friendly sweet girl. She is mostly white with a black patch over one eye so is as cute as she can be too. She was a pretty good racer and we have been waiting on her to retire for a couple of years. Star is a very special girl that the GC group has been waiting to take in for a couple of years. She is as bright as her name, both in beauty and intelligence! She would like some dog companionship to truly shine and likes to be included in daily activities. She enjoys bouncing around the yard, but would do fine in an apartment or unfenced home with plenty of exercise (she is still a young girl). She is quiet when crated but likes to have a doggie friend nearby so she is not all alone. Star is a very laid back dog who is undisturbed by loud noises or activity so would do great with children she is also very tolerant of being touched and moved when sleeping. She is content to lounge on her bed for the evening after dinner and enjoys just being close to her human pack. Because she is so smart, she needs to have the rules clearly defined. She is happy to follow the rules once they have been set down. She has a great memory and rarely forgets what is allowed or not. She will truly be the "star" of some lucky family's life! Cuddly, gentle, and sweet, this girl is looking for the home that recognizes just how special she is.

Red Robin came to us from the JCKC race track in Florida. She also raced at Orange Park in FL and Victoryland in Alabama. She raced 111 races but raced mainly at the lower levels only getting up to the B level a few times and spending most of her time in C and D. Red Robin raced at 59lbs. She was born on March 12 of 2002 and her sire is the very famous Molotov and her dam is Cajun Amy. She passed her cat and small dog tests and is good with kids.

Finn and his littermates Ethan & George are available. Finn is a mid sized male at 72lbs. They have been together for their entire lives - three and a half years and it would be wonderful to place them together but we have done a trial separation and they all seem like they would be OK living alone too. They are all reported to be as sweet as their name and wonderful, beautiful boys. They sleep together in a pile. All are friendly and loving. If you are interested in one, two or all three boys who are already bonded to each other, let us know and we can set up a meeting for you with them. Finn is in a foster home with his brother Ethan and is doing great on his potty training and house manners and is very well behaved. He is a grinner like his brothers and will grin when happy excited or when he thinks he is in trouble. He is so well behaved that is rare though. Finn is a friendly, happy loving guy that likes to sleep in his crate and is fascinated with his first Christmas tree.

This pretty little white and brindle girl was adopted by a family then was abandoned at a shelter. Sophie is safe with us now and has been checked and given a dental by our vet and is ready for adoption. She tolerant of dogs, cats, and small children. Sophie is very sweet and even though she is an older girl still is playful and silly. This is a wonderful girl that is just a little shy with new people at first but warms up very quickly. Sophie would love to spend her birthday on Dec 8th with her new family. Her sire is Follies Bergiere and her dam is Memphis Ace. She was born on December 8th of 2000. She raced only 5 races at the Mobile Track. She is a small girl and raced at just 55lbs.

Sophie was adopted and was well loved until an illness took her suddenly toward the end of 2011.

George and his littermates Ethan & Finn have lived together and raced together their entire lives. While it would be wonderful to put them in a home together we know that finding a home for 3 dogs at once would be difficult. We have done a trial separation of the brothers and they all seem to be fine alone too. All three boys are all reported to be as sweet as their name and wonderful, beautiful boys. They are small to mid sized males. Of the three, George is the most active, confident, curious and playful. He is going to make a fun pet. Her raced 74 races at Derby Lane and got up to the top A level. George passed his cat and small dog tests so should be OK to live in a home with either.

Gabby is a very happy-go-lucky, grinning girl! This 63lb girl has a wonderul fun, friendly personality and loves everyone. Gabby is playful and loves to play with tennis balls. She gets along well with other dogs of all sizes and has passed her cat test. This is a great gal that has graduated from our Tri County Tech program. Her sire is Greys Outbound and her dam is Lonely Wind. She raced 142 races at JCKC and was good racing mostly at the top A level. She raced at 63lbs and was born on March 17th of 2005,

Desi is shy, but willing. She likes getting loves, but doesn't come up and ask for them. She has already become very attached to her housemate Finnegan, and stays very close to him for cues. She rides very nicely in a car, and is a quiet girl. She is actually afraid of the housemate cats, and won't go near them. She will go in her crate on her own sometimes - I think to take a break from all of her new surroundings. She loves food, but doesn't gobble, and as a dainty eater. She has met a few people now, and with a little coaxing, she will go up and get love. Once someone starts petting her, she is fine and is just afraid to make the initial approach. She has also met a couple of small dogs and was absolutely fine with them. She was very curious. With some time, some love and a gentle hand, this little girl is going to be an incredible pet. Desi is going to end up being absolutely devoted to the person who gives her a forever home. She is so sweet, and so pretty. She is going to be worth the patience and love. As she settles in and learns how to be just a dog, she is going to be a very, very special girl.

Mattie is a small 54lb female. She has no races listed. Her sire is Clappin Thunder and her dam is Blindedbythelite. Mattie loves people and wants to be around them more than the other doggy housemates. She has shown no anxiety moving into her foster home and new life-- learned to go up and down stairs right away, and even likes looking at herself in the mirror! She chases balls, loves to play, and is showing herself to be smart enough to learn tricks. What a beautiful, smart girl!

Chase is a sweet, friendly, 7-year-old girl that had to have a leg removed a couple of years ago because of bone cancer. These photos are old and were taken before she lost her leg. Being a tripod doesn't slow her down any. She can jump into cars and keeps up with the 4 legged dogs with no problem. Unfortunately most bone cancer does return and it is a miracle that she has survived 2 years without it coming back. Chase was in an adoptive home and was returned because her owner couldn't keep her and not because of behavior problems. She has been living in a home for years so is home acclimated and very well behaved. She and Ramzeez were housemates. She raced at Naples Ft Myers track and has 82 races listed. Her sire is NR's Fast Eddie and her dam is Bold Gigi. DOB 8/10/02

Update after adoption: Chase has been adopted and her bone cancer has never returned. She is one very lucky giri and her family dearly loves her.

Crayons is a sweet, outgoing girl that loves everyone and will give gentle hugs. She knows how to sit already and knows several other tricks. She can be vocal when left alone so would not be a good dog for apartment living. She seems to be cat and small dog tolerant and likes children. She gets along well with other dogs too. This is a very devoted girl that just wants to be with her family and will be a very loving pet. Updated description! Through experience with her foster home, we think Crayons would be best suited to a home with at least one other dog for company and a human who is home a lot. She doesn't like to be alone and is much more comfortable with people around. Her energy and personality also respond best to being part of a pack. She is an adorable little girl who bonds tightly with her humans and will return that attention joyfully. This is girl that is full of fun and love. Lady is a sweet but shy 60lb girl that is very timid with new people and will probably take a while to warm up to a new family. Because quick movements and loud noises can frighten her she would probably do better in a home with quiet older children rather than small kids. She is and cat/small dog tolerant. Lady will probably need a fenced yard because she spooks easily on leash. Lady has been moved from our TriCounty Tech Partnership Program into a foster home. Her sire is the famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Champagne Lake. She was born on Oct 29th 2007.

Angel just arrived from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She also raced at Naples Ft Meyers. Her sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and her dam is Nikos Vindicator. Angel was born on July 5th 2007. She is a very sweet 2 year old girl that is well behaved. Her foster home says that she will be very hard to let go. Angel is a beautiful 58lb white girl with dark brindle spots. No she doesn't have a dirty nose in the photo. She just has a little muzzle stain on her nose that should go away with time. Angel gives kisses, loves to play with toys and has a weakness for hamburgers and french fries. She is small dog and cat tolerant too.

This little girl was released from a shelter near Savannah into the care of GC. She was never registered to race but she was tattooed so we could look up her pedigree. We don't know much more about her history and haven't discovered which adoption group she originated from. Savannah was initially interested n the kitties, but quickly responds to correction. She also did very well with small dogs and the young children (3 and 5) in her foster placement. She is calm, easy-going and loves to cuddle with her humans. She doesn't chew on items inappropriately, has great house manners, and doesn't display any anxiety at being left alone. She is slightly timid when first approached and at feeding time, preferring to eat alone. Savannah seems to be a dog who will fit into almost any home, whether there is another greyhound with her or not.

Zea is truly one of those rare dogs that comes along only every so often. She is so loving and docile, a real doll! Zea is a beautiful 54-pound brindle girl who just turned four. She is a submissive girl who has no aspirations of being the lead sled dog, but that doesn't mean she is a wilting flower by any means! She is currently being fostered with both greys and small dogs, and has easily integrated into the pack. She loves to greet you on your arrival and will nuzzle with you to get the maximum amount of love she can. Her tail wags a million miles an hour! She is quiet when crated and will sometimes seek out her crate during the day to catch a few winks of 'quiet time,' but can also be found curled up on her doggie bed in the living room, protecting all occupants from any stuffies that may be lurking nearby. In addition to killing stuffies, she LOVES to chase a ball and will bring it back and drop it at your feet as long as you are willing to throw it. She rarely barks unless encouraged to do so, and her bark is surprisingly deep, especially for a smaller female. Once she gets over initial shyness to new people or situations, Zea is one of the friendliest greyhounds we have ever met. If you drop a pan on the floor, she may startle and dash out of the kitchen, but will quickly return to check out what made that loud noise. She does not exhibit Alpha behavior at all, but is so smart and willing to please that she learns quickly in order to please her human pack. Zea is not food agressive and will easily yield her dinner dish to you. She is small dog and child safe. She walks great on leash and stays right near you. She easily figured out stairs, so long as they are solid and not slotted/open (like a deck or pier). She would make a great first greyhound for someone, or would also fit well into an existing pack.
