Sketch just arrived from the Palm Beach Race Course. His sire is the famous Highly Classified and his mom is the famous Ethel Is Here. Sketch didn't inherit his parents talent for racing and out of 30 races, never managed to win a single one. He did get some seconds and thirds though. His trainer says he was more interested in playing with the other dogs than chasing the lure. They said he is very fast and agile and could have done well if he had tried. He arrived with his brother Mertz By Ethel. Sketch is a small boy that raced at just 66lbs. He will turn 3 on September 23rd. He passed his small dog test easily, not even wanting to approach. He sniffed the cat and backed off. He got a little more interested when the cat ran across the room later. He seems trainable, though, with some initial supervision. Sketch was initially fostered with small kids and did great with them. He loves going for walks and meeting the neighbors and loves playing with toys.

Azalea just arrived from the Waverider kennel at the Daytona Beach Race track that just closed. She was mainly competitive at the lower levels but did get up to B level a couple of times. She also raced some of her 50 races at Palm Beach. Azalea raced at 60lbs and turned 2 on November 30th. Her sire is the famous Barcelona Boss and her dam is Magic Violet. Azalea is a happy bouncy girl that seems fun and energetic. She was excited about the cat and curious. The cat slapped her and she wasn't really fazed by being smacked. She could easily be redirected when meeting the cat and just seemed curious and excitable about everything and not prey driven. She is probably cat trainable with supervision. She is used to being around her trainers children so should do fine in a home with kids. She can be bouncy and jump on people so she may accidentally knock over very small children. Azalea was vetted by Dr King at Pet Vet Animal Hospital in Charleston.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Chatham family of NC 3/24/20

Jo Jo is young pup that is coming to us straight from a farm in Arkansas. She was the runt of the litter and only weighs 47lbs. They decided she is going to be too small to race so are letting her go to an adoptive home instead. She is coming in specifically for a family and is not available. They picked out the name Jojo for her since she was never registered. Jojo was just a little overwhelmed by her big adventure across several states. She did really well with everything new, she would approach everything new to sniff rather than shying away. She already walks pretty well on leash and seems pretty calm for a puppy. Although she is not registered she does have tattoos. Her right tattoo is 59C but her left tattoo isn't really readable. It may be 73658 but the last 2 numbers are really faint. Her birthday is 5/27/19.

She is not tattooed or registered so her new family picked out the name Athena for her. She was born Dec 2nd of 2019. Mertz just arrived. He raced only 3 races and those were all at the Orange Park Race Track. He didn't race well there and was sent to Palm Beach. He was schooled there and just didn't show any promise there either so was retired and sent to us with his brother Sketch. Mertz sire and dam are both famous dogs Highly Classified and Ethel is Here. He didn't inherit his parents racing skill and his trainer said that he was really more interested in playing with other dogs than chasing the lure. Mertz is one of the greyhound grinners that pulls his lips back into a full grin whenever he gets excited. It is a submissive gesture and even though it looks a little like showing teeth it is actually a happy smile. Mertz is a happy friendly boy. He is a little guy that raced at just 67lbs. He turned 2 on September 23rd. Mertz passed his small dog test easily, losing interest after a good sniff. He checked out the cat, but after he got smacked by the cat he wanted nothing more to do with him. He is the littermate of Sketch who arrived in the same load.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Laben family of Bluffton SC 3/6/20

SPECIAL SENIOR THAT HAS BEEN WAITING ON A HOME THE LONGEST! Gracie just needs a home with no other dogs. Gracie is a tiny black female that raced at just 57lbs. She originally came from the track in Orlando and raced only 9 races there, not placing in one of those races. Her birthday is March 28th 2010 so she will be celebrating her 10th birthday soon. As a senior, she qualifies for our reduced adoption donation of $250! Her sire is Tony's Oracle and her dam is USS Upside. She is a littermate to Michele Henry and Cute Candle that we already placed and a half sister to several other dogs we have placed. Gracie lived with cats for 2 years in her first home and is fine with them. She has been in two adoptive homes before and has been returned for the same reason both times. The first home adopted several puppies after adopting Gracie. Gracie has always had some issues with not liking to be bothered by other dogs when lying down or sleeping. Having a bunch of wild puppies in the house was too much for her. Her family decided to re-home Gracie and keep the puppies. She was placed in a home with no other dogs in December of 2014. That home adopted a second female dog in 2015 and Gracie got along well with her perfectly for 4 years. Gracie bit her housemate twice in 6 months time, once over food and once over her space, so the decision was made to re-home her again. We had Gracie checked by our vet and found that she is low thyroid and needs inexpensive thyroid medication. Low thyroid can cause behavior changes and grumpiness. We started Gracie on thyroid medication and she has been perfectly behaved with quite a few other dogs in her foster home for months now. Although Gracie is doing fantastic with the dogs in her foster home now, we want to place her in a home with no other dogs. She attends greyhound playgroup and is fine playing with the other dogs, so this isn't a dog that can never be around other dogs though. She has never been grumpy with people approaching her when she is laying down, according to her former family. She is friendly with adults and children she meets. Because she has shown grumpiness about her space, with other dogs, we chose to mark her 'older children only', just to be safe. Gracie isn't a needy girl and is perfectly happy laying on her bed most of the day. She doesn't follow you around and you will hardly know she is there. Gracie can be a little whiny sometimes. Gracie is doing great in foster care, has great house manners and knows how to use a doggy door. She is ready to be a pet for someone that wants a very easy, only dog that will be calm and well behaved.

Silver just arrived from the Celtic Hounds kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track with her sister Lola and her brother Maxwell. She raced her entire career of 137 races in Orlando. She got up to B level but mostly raced at the lower levels there. Silver is a gorgeous almost solid black girl. She raced at 64lbs and will turn 5 on July 20th. Her sire is the famous Oshkosh Slammer and her dam is USS Time to Go. She got along fine with the small dog she met. She seemed like she had been around cats before and knew they had claws. She turned her face away and wouldn't approach and the rest of her littermates did the same. Silver can be very vocal in her kennel so isn't going to be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living. She walks nicely on leash. Silver was just a little overwhelmed when she first arrived, but her track trainer says she is a very outgoing girl that is not a bit shy. Very outgoing. Although she was a little stressed by the move, she has been happy and waggy most of the time and seems to really like the adults and children she has met. She is a smart girl that can be a bit of a houdini. She has gotten out of her wire kennel a few times so will probably need a plastic airline style crate.

Delila came in from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She is a beautiful light fawn girl that raced at 61lbs. She turned 3 on August 12th. Her sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and her dam is Lee Juliet. She raced her entire career of 87 races for the Lester Raines Kennel. She got up to A level and even competed in and won a stakes race so she was a good racer. Nov 23rd she broke her leg. She had surgery with an orthopedic specialist in Jacksonville before coming up to our group. She has been having her splint changes and rehab in NC. It was a bad break and even though it is healing well she still needs more rehab so that she starts using the leg more. We hope she will be ready to be adopted at the end of February. Interested adopters can schedule meetings with her in the meantime. Delila is a happy, waggy girl that seems to like everyone she meets. She traveled very well and even did well overnight in a hotel during her trip. She walks nicely on leash. Delila was a favorite of her trainers kids. One of them would get in her kennel with her at the track and snuggle with her. So she seems like she is exceptionally good with children.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Pike Family of Florence SC 2/29/20

Sara came in from the Brindle Kennel at the Palm Beach Race Track in mid 2017. She raced 112 races there and at Naples Ft Myers. She was a good racer getting up to the top A level. She raced at 60lbs and will turn 7 on May 15th. Her sire is the very famous Flying Penske and her dam is USS Santa Rosa. Sara was adopted by the Riggs family of N. Myrtle Beach 6/15/17. Her family returned her to us in February of 2020, but one of our volunteers, that dog sat Sara, asked if she could adopt her.  Sara is very calm, sweet and quiet. When she first meets a new person she will just stand there politely, waiting to be petted. She loves the attention but is a bit timid at first with new people and often won't go up to them to seek out attention. She just waits for them to come to her. She is a beautiful girl with a gorgeous, shiny, black coat. She is very quiet in her kennel and potties really well on leash, so would be fine without a fenced yard if her family was willing to leash walk her. She might be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living since she is so quiet and calm. Sara gets along well with other dogs and lived in a foster home with no other greyhounds so seems like she would be great as an only dog too. She passed her cat and small dog tests with no interest in the cat at all. She has lived with cats and a small dogs in a foster home and is used to seeing them both. Sara can do steps and will hop in and out of cars easily to go for rides, she loves to travel and just lays down in the car. She is pretty timid once she gets out of the car in a new place though, but is very good on leash. She is a very sweet, beautiful girl that is doing great in foster care and learning the rules of home life. Sara does tend to scare easily and seems like she is a very sensitive girl. She has been good with the kids she has met, but living with loud, running young kids might just be too scary for her. Quiet kids or older kids would be better.  Sara is completely vetted and ready to go home.

Panda came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She also raced at Wheeling Downs in WV. Panda raced 134 races and retired due to an injured toe. She raced at 66lbs and is a beautiful muscular girl. She turned 4 on May 14th. Her sire is the famous Djays Octane and her dam is AMF Pause. She travels really well and loves to go for rides. Her trainer shared with us that Panda loves animal crackers. She would follow her around waiting for hers. When Panda goes into her kennel she turns around waiting for her cookie since she usually got one for going in her kennel. Panda was pretty timid at first when she moved into foster care. She tends to overreact to things that she thinks are scary at first but warms up pretty fast. The first time the HVAC system kicked on when she was outside, she was afraid to go back into the yard. She jumped at first when cars zoomed by on walks but is very good on leash now and loves walks. She has completely warmed up in her foster home now and meets them at the door with a wagging tail. She has become a very devoted velcro dog. Once she found the dog's toy box, she started piling all the toys on the bed and then laid on top of the toy mountain. Toys that squeak are her favorite. She liked the kids she met, but may be a little too timid to live in a home with loud fast moving little kids. Panda was too interested in the cats she met so needs a home with no kitties. She has been fine with the small dogs she has met. Panda follows her foster family around and likes to be in the same room that they are in and is such a love bug! She is quiet in her crate so may be a good apartment dog.

She likes people but is a little bit timid at first with new people. Girl is settling in well to foster care and is warming up fast. Todd just arrived from the CTW farm in Texas. He never raced so we don't have a racing weight for him but he is a big tall handsome guy that should be in the mid 80lb range. He failed to show any promise as a racer in training at the farm. At the end of the races he kept running and playing and seemed to enjoy playing keep away from the people trying to catch him or maybe he thought if he stayed out there the lure would eventually start running again and he would get to chase it again. He is a very outgoing friendly guy that runs straight up to people any other time. He is a young guy that won't turn 2 until April 15th. He is a handsome dark brindle with white stockings and white chest and blaze on his nose. He seems like a snuggly guy that will stand next to you as long as you will pet him. He needs a little work on walking on leash because he does pull and gets excited to check things out. Todd travels really well and crates quietly. He slept through the first night in his foster home without a peep. He seems like a really nice guy that is going to be a lot of fun. He was nicknamed Goofball at the kennel. He can be very dramatic, yelping loudly the first time he had to go down 3 stairs. He is smart and learns fast, he could do the stairs just fine after the second attempt. Tonto came in from the Daytona Beach Race Track. He also raced at Sarasota, Ebro, Flagler and Naples Ft Meyers Race tracks so has traveled around some. He raced 98 races and was pretty good getting up to the top A level a few times. He is a small male that raced at just 67lbs. He will turn 4 on June 16th. His sire is the famous Boc's Blast Off and his dam is Superior Rasta. Tonto seems like a very friendly, happy, little guy. He seems pretty confident and didn't seem nervous on the trip up. He wags and goes right up to everyone he sees. Very sweet. He has been in a home for about a month but he seems like he may have too high of a prey drive to live with tiny furry dogs. He has gotten too excited a couple of time playing with the Pomeranian in his home. He did not hurt her, but his family thinks he would do better in a home without a small dog. During his small dog test he got really excited to see the small dog at first, but it was always just appropriate sniffing, trying to figure out who this new small friend was. By the end of the meeting they were play bowing to each other trying to play. Tonto was initially quite curious about the cat as well, but backed off as soon as he got slapped and we couldn't get him to go back over to the cat, so he may do OK with a cat that won't engage in play with careful supervision at first. He seems like a very friendly, enthusiastic, playful dog that wants to meet anything and everyone.

Her sire is Kelso's Locknload and her dam is Kelso's Lab Top. Alva is a friendly, happy girl that can be bouncy when excited. She did fine with the small dog at the adoption kennel and with the small white dog she was tested with when she got to us. She also passed her cat test and has been living with cats in her foster home. She just carefully sniffed the cat and then lost interest and checked out the rest of the room. When she was vetted she tested positive for Lymes Disease so is on an antibiotic, Doxicycline, for that. She didn't have any symptoms of Lymes and seems to be healthy with no long term affects. Alva is a very sweet girl happy girl with a wonderful personality.

Becky just arrived from the Waverider Kennel at the Daytona Beach Race Track. She had a long race career of 120 races. She started out her career at Orange Park in Jacksonville FL but was moved to Daytona Beach for about half her career. She mainly raced at the lower C and D races but did get up into A and B briefly. Becky is a small girl that raced at just 58lbs. Her sire is the famous Barcelona Boss so she is a half sister to Angus and Dude that arrived with her. Her dam is KB's Santa Rina. Becky will turn 4 on April 25th. She has a very sweet and gentle temperament and is getting along great with the greyhound in her foster home. She has mastered the indoor and outside stairs. She enjoys her toys and was fascinated by Game of Thrones. She walks well on leash. She is can be a bit choosy about her food and treats at first but is eating well. Becky was too interested in the cats at the track kennel so we didn't think she could live with them, but since she has met several cats and has been fine with them, so we changed her to cat trainable. She is very used to being around kids because her trainer has 4 kids and brings them to the kennel to help with the dogs.

Dude just arrived with his brother Angus from the Daytona Race Track. He didn't actually have an official race. Like his brother he started out racing at Tri State in West Virginia but was move to Daytona Beach when he didn't show a lot of speed. We could only find where he schooled 4 times. He quit in his last race back in June. He has just been hanging out at the track since then. Dude turned 2 on September 8th. He raced at 78lbs. Dude's sire is the famous Barcelona Boss and his dam is Dizzy Diva. He is a very confident, happy guy. He gets along well with other greyhounds and  his foster brother who is a small dog. He passed his cat test at the track but failed a subsequent test after he arrived so he needs a home with no kitties. He seems like a pretty smart guy because he mastered the doggy door on the first try. He is a happy guy with lots of personality.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Hollar family of Hickory NC 2/16/20

Lola just arrived from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She raced 149 races in her career. She also raced briefly at Dubuque and Mardi Gras race tracks. She raced a lot of the longer races and did get up to the top A level. Her sire is the famous Oshkosh Slammer and her dam is USS Time To Go. She came in with her sister Silver and her brother Maxwell. Although they did come in together and raced some at the same track they have all been apart racing at different tracks and will be fine being adopted out separately. Lola is a tiny, short girl that raced at 60lbs only because she is stocky. She is a gorgeous shiny black girl with flashy white chest and feet. Lola will turn 5 on July 20th. She passed her small dog test easily. She and her littermates have been around cats at some point because they all refused to get near the cat and turned their face away to avoid the claws if the cat came near them. Lola is the most timid of the litter. Although she approaches carefully with her head down low, she seems like she wants to be with people. She seems to warm up fast once she knows you and will lean in for affection. Fast motions can make her a little nervous, so we think living with loud, young kids would probably be too much for her. When she met some toddlers she turned her head away from them. She politely allowed them to pet her and didn't run away, but they did make her nervous. She can be pretty vocal in her crate so probably wouldn't be a good apartment dog. Although she complains sometimes about being in her crate she seems to feel pretty safe there and often chooses to be in there.

Max just came in from the Celtic Hounds Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He is arriving with two of his sisters Silver and Lola. He and his sister Lola look just alike. He started out his career in Orlando. He showed some promise as a racer so was moved to Dubuque where he raced briefly at A level. Since Max was good, he was moved up to a tougher track, Southland. The competition there was too stiff, and he only won 1 race, so he was moved back to Dubuque and then to Wheeling. When he wasn't able to win another race at either of those tracks he was moved to Derby Lane. He only won one more race there, so was moved back to Sanford Orlando where his sisters were racing. He was retired after just a few races there. Max is a flashy black guy with a white chest and white feet. He raced at 72lbs and will turn 5 on July 20th. His sire is the famous Oshkosh Slammer and his dam is USS Time To Go. Max travels well. Max got along fine with the small dog he met. He appeared to have already met cats before. As soon as he saw the cat he turned his face to the side and carefully backed away to avoid the claws. Max seems like a pretty calm guy that has been a little overwhelmed so far. He seems like he will warm up after a day or two though. He seemed to like the kids he met and wagged happily. He can be vocal in his kennel occasionally so may not be a great apartment or townhouse dog. So far he hasn't been a very good eater, probably due to the stress of the move.

Submissive is a return that was initially adopted back in November of 2013 before he was even 2 years old. He had broken his leg while training to race in Dubuque. We were asked to take him before his race career even started. His leg was healed up before being adopted to his first family. He was renamed Meno then. Although his home started out to be a good one and he was happy and spoiled, things can change over time. We just got him back from what appeared to be a poor situation. He had gotten heart worms but his owner hadn't been willing to treat it for some time. He is now being treated for heartworm and our vet is expecting him to make a full recovery. Although Meno wasn't in the best home situation he is a wonderful sweet guy. He loves to be on couches and beds and prefers those to dog beds. Meno's sire is the famous Flying Hydrogen and his dam is Slatex Sassy. He is a very smart guy that taught himself how to take off his own muzzle as a young dog before we got him. Meno travels well and is a very laid back boy that just wants love and a soft place to sleep. Meno has lived with cats and loves them. He also is good with other dogs of all sizes and kids. He lived with a female greyhound in his previous home until she passed away. He will turn 8 on March 23rd.

Angus just came in from the Daytona Beach Race track with his brother Astro. He started out race training at the Tri State Track in West Virginia but only just schooled there and was sent to Daytona Beach to continue schooling. He didn't show much speed and finished so far behind the other dogs that he got an OOP on his race record. That means he was out of the picture and couldn't be seen in the race video because he was so far behind. After some time schooling he got a little better and actually raced 5 real races, but just wasn't fast enough so was retired in October. He just came to us from the track. Angus raced at 77lbs and turned 2 on September 8th. His sire is the famous Barcelona Boss and his dam is Dizzy Diva. Angus passed his cat test at the track but failed a subsequent cat test so needs a home with no cats. He has been fine with the small dogs he met. Angus gets along well with his two greyhound roommates in his foster home. He has mastered stairs inside and out and he loves playing with his toys. Angus is gentle, affectionate and loves people. He is a confident boy and does great on leash walks.

Santana came in intially from Orange Park Race Track in Florida in early 2019. He only had 4 races listed and did win one of those, but after his one win, came in last. He just turned 3 on January 8th. He is a very tall lanky guy that raced at 80lbs. His sire is the famous Soprano Drive and his dam is Braska Angie. He is a gorgeous brindle guy with white socks, chest and blaze on his nose. Santana is very outgoing and likes people. His foster mom says he is a velcro dog and wants to be touching her or laying next to her all the time. When she is doing dishes he is asleep at her feet. He is very good on leash and stays right with her on walks too. He passed his cat and small dog tests with just a brief sniff of both. He seems like an energetic guy that will make a great pet. Santana was adopted in March of 2019. His new family was older and ended up having to rehome him in February of 2020 due to health issues. We were thrilled that one of their friends that babysat him and knew him well decided to adopt him.

Her sire is the famous SH Avatar and her dam is WW's Tropical. Camile's entire litter were all named for hurricanes. Her trainer described her as a friendly girl and says that she is a smiler when she gets excited. She seems like a pretty calm girl so far and did pretty well walking on leash. She is used to being around her trainers kids and liked the two small kids she met here. Camile was initially very excitable around the cat, but after just one slap she decided that cats were not something she wanted to get close to. We couldn't get her to go near the cat again she put on the brakes and wouldn't even walk near the cat. She did fine with the small dog she met and just sniffed him appropriately.

Spitfire just arrived from the Daytona Beach Race Track. She also raced at Southland in Arkansas, Orange Park in Florida and Tri-State in WV. She raced 77 races, mainly at the lower levels. That is why she kept moving to different tracks, in hopes that they could find somewhere that she would be competitive. When she stayed at the lowest level stay after the last three moves, she was retired. Spitfire is not actually a spitfire at all. She is really sweet and friendly and just stares up into your eyes. She really loves treats according to her trainer and she will do anything to get one. Since she is so food motivated she may be one that would enjoy obedience or trick training. She is a tiny brindle girl that raced at just 56lbs. She has cute ears that go straight up when she is curious about something and a cute curly tail. Spitfire turned 3 on November 24th. Her sire is TMC's Remedy and her dam is Asteria Drive. Spitfire seems like a very sweet girl and didn't seem to be terribly stressed by the move. Her one quirk is that she doesn't want to go into a new crate. She sets her feet and raises her head as high as possible so she won't fit through the doorway. Once in the crate she is completely fine and lays down and goes to sleep. We may try bribing her by throwing in a treat. When she was at the vet's office she was very interested in the cats she saw and they didn't think she would be OK with cats. After she actually sniffed our cat and it slapped her, she completely changed her mind though and wouldn't go anywhere near our cats again. She seemed pretty traumatized by the one light slap the cat gave her. So we think she should be at least trainable with a confident cat that would just slap her one time.

Dax just arrived from Wave Rider Kennel at the Daytona Beach Race Track. He also raced briefly at the Orange Park Race Track. He raced a total of 64 races and did get up to the top A level briefly. Dax raced at 77lbs and just turned 3 on Jan 3rd. His sire is the famous Dragon Fire and his dam is Barts Sweet Pea. Dax has a big personality and is pretty energetic for a greyhound. He is very outgoing and friendly and goes straight up to meet everyone he sees. He wags so hard that he injured his tail as a pup and lost half of it. He is pretty excitable and wants to jump up and give hugs to everyone he meets. We are working on toning down his enthusiasm a bit. He is curious and wants to check out everything. Dax seems like a very confident guy that isn't afraid of anything. He is playful and goofy. His trainer says he mumbles and talks to himself in his kennel and will carry on a conversation with you if you talk back to him. Dax is very used to being around kids because his trainer brings her kids to the kennel with her. We marked him older kids only because of him jumping on people. He would knock a toddler or small child down in his excitement without more training. Dax liked the small dog he was around that lived in the racing kennel and did fine with the small dog he met when he arrived with us too. He initially showed a little interest in the cat he met but lost interest pretty fast after sniffing and having the cat hiss at him a few times.  If you want a greyhound that is personality plus, Dax is your guy. Dax is a strong excitable guy that does pull on the leash when excited so will need some more leash training.

Scout is a large brindle boy that raced at 79lbs. He turned 3 on September 1st. His sire is Flying Coal City and his dam is Diamond N Ruff. Scout is a very friendly, happy guy. He is a big strong boy that needs a little work on not pulling on leash. He seems like a confident curious guy that has a great personality. He was roaching (sleeping on his back with his feet in the air) the first day if foster care. That is a sign of being very comfortable and relaxed. If he even sees you look his way he will wag his tail happily. He passed his small dog test at the track without much interest and also did fine with our small dog. He was initially very interested in the cat but did lose interest after the cat slapped him, then he checked out the rest of the room. We caught him stealing glances back at the cat so we weren't completely convinced that he had completely given up chasing the cat though. We think he probably would do better in a home with no cats. He liked the kids he met too and is used to being around the kids in his trainer's kennel.

SUPER STAR!!! Jordan is a super star that retired from racing to become a dad. Now he has retired from his dad duties too at 9 years old. He just turned 9 on January 22nd. Jordan is a super star that won 50 races out of his 177 career races and raced his entire career at the top A level of racing. Even when he didn't win he usually placed in the money. A lot of his races were the big money Stakes races reserved for the best racers at the track. He was a member of the 2013 All American Team and was the number 4 racer in the country that year. He was the # 12 racer in the country in 2014. Jordan was the winner of the 2013 Derby Lane Fall Sprint and the 2013 T.L. Weaver Memorial. He also won the Derby Lane Inaugural twice in both 2013 and 2014 and in record time. He placed 2nd in the 2013 Derby Lane Holiday Challenge. Jordan placed 3rd in the 2013 Derby Lane Distance Classic and he placed 3rd in the 2012 Derby Lane Holiday Challenge and 3rd in the 2014 Derby Lane Distance Classic and 2014 St Pete Derby. We feel like we should ask for his autograph and are thrilled to be trusted to place such a super star. So far Jordan has had 26 pups that are old enough to register, but there are more that are too young to register that will be later. Jordan is a small black male that raced at just 67lbs. His sire is the famous Flying Penske and his dam is Kiowa Tiffany. He is a sweet friendly boy that came in especially for one of our volunteers that wanted a senior. He will be staying with her as long as he gets along well with her current dogs.

Loki initially came in from the Roban Farm in Florida. He never actually got to the race track. He just wasn't interested in chasing anything so flunked out of race training. Loki is a tiny guy that doesn't have an official race weight but weighed around 62lbs at our vet. He turned 2 on May 5th and has been in an adoptive home for a year now. Initially he was called Robert but his new owners changed his name to Loki. His sire is WW Time Warp and his dam is Cahillusmarshall. Loki is a sweet submissive guy. He gives everyone he meets kisses and keeps his head body low when meeting people or other dogs. He is also very dramatic and will yelp like a pup if he even thinks something might hurt. His racing name of Iron Man really doesn't fit him, he is not a tough guy at all. Our vet and her staff commented on what a cry baby he was when they were working with him. He is very sweet and loved the toddlers he lived with and follows kids around choosing to be with them for the first year he was around them. Unfortunately he snapped and bit a kid that was falling on him, so now needs a home with no kids. He passed his cat and small dogs tests easily, as we expected. He didn't want to chase them anymore than he wanted to chase the lure. Loki travels well and crates well. He was pretty unsure of himself when he first arrived and doesn't seem like a real confident guy. He has adapted well to home life and is very well behaved according to his former family. The pictures of him are from his first photo shoot when he first arrived and he didn't want to look at the camera.

Destin came in from Eric Griffin's kennel at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville Florida. He raced 84 races, starting out his career at Wheeling Downs in WV, then going to Southland in Arkansas and finally to Orange Park. He got up to the top A level, so was pretty good. He was racing in A, in his last race on November 8th, when another dog ran into him and dislocated his toe. The toe was put back in place before we got him. Our vet examined it and felt it is healing up nicely and shouldn't cause him any more trouble. Desoto is a sweet, friendly, happy, confident boy that raced at 71lbs and turned 3 on July 26th. His sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is WW'sbemasunshine. Destin rode well during transport and jumped right into the van. He is very social and goes straight up to everyone he sees for attention. Destin is curious about everything but walks pretty good on leash and doesn't pull much. He was too interested in the cats at the vet's office to pass his cat test. He did fine with the small white dog he met. He just sniffed and went on to check out the rest of the house. He is being fostered with small kids and seems to like them. He is getting along with the other greyhounds and whippets in his foster home. He proceeds cautiously on wood floors after slipping a few times, but that is the only thing we had seen that makes him at all nervous. He does like to get up on furniture and climbed right up onto the couch to make himself at home. He did bark some at first in his foster home so may not be suitable for apartment living. He is a great guy that has settled into foster care very easily and seems like he will make an easy addition to just about any home. Gorgeous guy with a wonderful personality too!

Steve came in from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He raced just 22 races starting out at Southland in Arkansas. He wasn't successful there but did well in Orlando and went straight up to the top A level. His last race was September 25th. He trailed pretty far behind the other dogs in his last race due to an injury. He was healed up and rehabbed, but wasn't able to return to racing, so is being officially retired now. Steve is a white male with black spots that raced at 74lbs. He turned 2 on April 3rd so is still a pretty young guy. His sire is Flying Fired up and his dam is Windy Reba. We would love to hear the story of how he got his name because he doesn't actually have a dirty face and is a gorgeous guy. Steve is settling into retirement very well in his foster home. He can't seem to figure out how to keep his body on the dog beds but does like to use them as pillows. He has the cutest curly tail. His trainer says that Steve is an old soul and acts older than his age. He can be just a bit reserved at first with new people and environments but has warmed up fast in foster care. He can be a little nervous on walks and seems like he prefers to be more of a homebody. Steve did fine with the small dogs he met and didn't even want to get near the cats so should be fine in a home with either.

Her sire is Surf Lorian and her dam is PJ Never Ask Why. Rita turned 4 on July 20th. Rita was pretty overwhelmed at first and nervous away from her trainers and the kennel she was used to. She has quickly regained her confidence and starting to get back to the friendly, goofy, girl that we met at the kennel. She was too nervous at first to be interested in the cats in her foster home. As she has gotten more confident she is paying more attention to their cats, so we have changed her from OK with cats to needs a home with no cats. She is doing great in foster care. She was noisy in her kennel the first night but has been pretty quiet since.

His sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is JS luck B A Lady. Bandit was a little overwhelmed the first day or two. He doesn't really seem like a shy guy, more of a sensitive guy. Bandit passed his cat, small dog and kid tests so should be fine in just about any home. He is a gorgeous, light fawn with a darker face. He is very curious about everything and isn't afraid to check things out on walks and goes right up to people. He is warming up really well.

Small Dog Tolerance:

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):
Frymire (Greenville, SC)
Adoption Status: Transferred to the the Abrams family of Athens TX 11/28/19

Special Needs! Envoy initially came in from trainer AJ Grant at the Sanford Orlando Kennel Club in FL. His last race was actually at Derby Lane in September and he also raced at Dubuque earlier. He was moved to Orlando in hopes he would be competitive there, but but never had an official race at that track. He won a couple of races early on, but usually came in toward the back of the pack, so the decision was made to retire him after 20 races. We got him in October of 2018. Envoy turns 3 on November 25th. He raced at 71lbs. His sire is Flying Titanium and his dam is Flying Cesium. Envoy is a happy, silly, guy that is pretty playful and energetic for a greyhound. He is going to need a very special home. He has some space issues and has bitten 3 women that tried to move him off of furniture or bumped him when he was laying down. He has been returned two families so far and never challenged the men in those homes, so we think he would do better in a home with men only. Envoy is very friendly with women and everyone he meets, when out and about. He only growls and snaps about his space when he is laying down. Although he normally likes kids and has shown no aggression towards them, because of space issues, he needs a home with no kids. Envoy is a very, happy, sweet, guy 99.9 percent of the time, but he is going to need a very special dog experienced home that has experience with working with dogs that have space issues.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Broquet Family of Woodruff SC, 11.24.19

Hooper is coming in from Eric Griffin at Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville Florida. He raced 93 races and also races at Southland in Arkansas and Wheeling WV. He got up to the top A level and was racing in A in his last race. He pulled a muscle on his inner thigh and pulled up and didn't finish that race on November 16th. It is a common injury that doesn't affect life as a pet and is only moderately painful for about a week. Greyhounds can sometimes return to racing after this type of injury. Since he was already nearly 4 years old and had a long career, the decision was made to retire him now. Hooper is a sweet boy who raced at 69lbs. His sire is Barcelona Boss and his dam is WW's Sally Field. Hooper turns 4 on December 17th. Hooper is a very calm easy going guy that is excellent on leash. He passed his small dog test with just a casual sniff. He liked the small kids he met going right up to them for affection very gently. More as we get to know him.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Blue family, 11.23.19

Sherwin came in from the Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park. He only had 3 schooling races and finished toward the back of the pack in the first two and pulled up and nearly stopped in the last one. His last race was in January but they kept him at the track for a long time before they made the decision to officially retire him. Sherwin raced at 75lbs. He turned 2 on June 20th. He was adopted in May but has been returned by his family due to some personal issues, not anything he did. They were heartbroken to have to return him to us for rehoming. They said he is a very good boy and has excellent house manners. Sherwin's sire is P's Gibbs and his dam is Zero. He seemed a little timid and overwhelmed when he first arrived from the track but warmed up right away in foster care. After just a day or two he became a friendly guy that would seek out attention. He is great with the other greyhounds, male and female in his foster home. He also passed his cat and small dog tests easily. Sherwin seems to love the kids he has met too. He loves to lay on doggy beds and is calm in the house but also has an active fun playful side too. He has done great with his potty training and didn't have one accident in the house when he came from the track or when he was returned to his foster home. He doesn't get up on the furniture and only comes in the kitchen if invited. He is very quiet so may be a good choice for apartment living. He has not been using a crate in his previous home or in his foster home currently.

Pop Tart just arrived from Eric Griffin's kennel at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville Florida. She raced just 6 races and only won one of those. In her last race on Nov 6th she hurt her hock. It was taken care of at the track before she was sent to us and is fine now. She just needs a couple of weeks more of leash walking before being allowed to run around on it. She isn't even limping on it anymore, but will hold it up once in while while standing. Pop Tart is a tiny little black girl that raced at just 53lbs. She is very young and won't turn 2 until May 16th of next year. She seems pretty well behaved for such a young girl. She does get a little excited and bounces when she first sees you and thinks she may get attention. She walks great on leash though and just stands next to you once she gets over her initial excitement. Her sire is Nashapelli and her dam is WW's Sour Tart. Pop Tart passed her small dog test easily and went straight up to the little kids she met with a wagging tail so seems to really like kids. She is a very friendly girl that travels well and just lays down in her kennel. She has a lot of red hair in a stripe down her tail which is very unusual on a black dog.

Fostered by (location):
Wilder-Maxwell Ridgeland SC
Adoption Status: Pending to the Wilder-Maxwell family of Ridgeland SC 11/21/19

Gimpy came in with her two sisters Lee Peg Creator and Lee Peg Mator from the King Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track in Florida. Gimpy never actually had an official race at the track due to an old injury to her right front foot. It looks like she may have been stepped on by another dog or maybe she kicked something while running and damaged several toes as a puppy which gave her her name. One toe had been partially amputated by a vet at some point, but because she was a pup, the bone continued to grow and was causing some pain. One of our vets did another incomplete amputation June 13th but it didn't heal up well. We took her to a specialist for a complete toe amputation at the end of October and also had a tendon surgery performed on her foot to flatten out her toes to make walking more comfortable. She developed corns on her feet due to the gait problems she was having and the tendon surgery will help with those. So she is on restricted exercise temporarily until her toes heal up from her most recent surgery. Before the surgery she was still holding up the foot when standing and had a pronounced limp when walking on the foot due to the incomplete amputation and the corns on her good toes. Corns feel like walking on tiny rocks all the time. Even with all her foot problems she rarely slows down. She loves to run and play and doesn't worry too much about her foot. She loves going for walks and gets so excited to see the leash.  After we took care of her toe we changed her name to Lucky which was more fitting for her. Lucky is full of energy and is a real love to everyone who meets her. Whoever meets this happy little girly is going to fall madly in love! So much happiness and personality in this one. Lucky's sire is the famous Trent Lee and her dam is Dakota's Peggey. She is a tiny girl who weighed just 56lbs at the vet. Lucky is young and turned 2 on April 4th. She passed her cat and small dog tests at the track. She was fostered with a cat in her first foster home and did fine with it. Lucky doesn't seem to be stressed by much and was roaching (Sleeping on her back with her feet in the air which is the sign of a relaxed happy greyhound). Lucky is doing great on hardwood floors. She gets excited and jumps on people sometimes, so it is a good thing she is a tiny girl. She doesn't like to be bothered while lying down, so needs to be placed in a family with older kids capable of understand the saying "let a sleeping dog lie" or placed with no kids.  She is friendly and goes right up to everyone for attention and seems like she is going to be a very loving pet and companion. This is the cutest little girl!

Sherry is a 62lb black female that is coming in from the Bolton Farm in Florida. She was a very good racer that raced 104 races, mostly at the top A level. She also raced in a couple of Stakes races for the best racers at the track. Sherry retired back in July and was sent back to the farm to be a mom. Since the vote to end greyhound racing in Florida passed, her owners decided not to breed her and are sending her to us to place. We have already placed several of her littermates. They are all very sweet dogs. Her sire is Golden Squire and her dam is B My Merlot. Sherry is a very friendly girl. We have followed her career closely and our volunteers visited her at the track so we have lots of photos of her. Be sure to check out her other photos to see a few of them. Whoever adopts this girl will inherit a lot of pictures.
