Jean initially came in from the Orange Park Race Track where she raced all 68 of her races. She raced mainly at the lower C and D levels and only managed to win 6 of her races. She did place a lot though. Jean raced at 60lbs and turns 4 on July 6th. Her sire is the famous Seldom Told and her dam is WP Black Velvet. Her last race was Feb 24th of 2020 and she was with the track adoption group at the track and was vetted there on 5/6/20. Jean passed her cat test there and ignored the cat at first. Once she got used to the cat, she wanted to play, but she backs right off when the cat slaps her. She has done well with the small dog in her foster home. Jean was adopted to a family and has been with them for about a year. They are having a baby and don't have time for her anymore so would like us to find her another home. She is a good girl according to her family and is great with their cat. She isn't being returned due to anything she did. Her family says she is a bouncy, happy, girl that has a fun level of energy.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Georgian family of Aiken SC 4/25/21

Faith came in initially with her sister Paisley from the Running to Stand Still Farm in Florida. She raced just 4 races at Palm Beach in Florida before all the tracks in Florida closed for good at the end of 2020. She was just getting her career started but finished toward the back of the pack in the few races she did have so probably would not have had a long career anyway. Faith raced at 61lbs and just turned 2 on January 16th. Some of our volunteers visited the farm she was raised on so have photos of her taken throughout her life. Be sure to click on her other photos to see them. Her sire is Quick Reply and her dam is Gogo Ontario. Faith was placed in a home but they reported that she was never happy there. She was there for a month, but they said she didn't want to interact with their dogs at all and was protective of her food. When we got her back she was underweight and very hungry, which could have caused her odd behavior. She had shown no sign of any food issues in her foster home or with any other dogs previously and was a happy go lucky girl. She was happy and wagging her tail as soon as she saw her foster family again. She has had no issues with any of the other greyhounds in her foster home and interacts with them normally since she has been back. Even though she has never shown any sign of aggression to people we would prefer to not place her with small children that might grab a bone or mess with her food just to be on the safe side. Faith does have a high prey drive and did not pass her cat test. She hasn't lived with tiny dogs, and can mistake them for squirrels, so needs a home without kitties or small dogs. Faith has been back in her foster home for some time now and has been a wonderful happy girl since she walked through the door. We put Faith on vet hold due to her weight loss to be sure she was healthy but she is gaining weight back and is fine.

Crago (Greenville, SC)
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Crago family, 4/19/21

Denton just arrived from the Roban Farm in Florida. He never raced. His tattoos are 74185 - 109H and he was born on October 29th of 2019 so is very young and just turned 1 in October. His sire is the famous SH Avatar and his dam is Biodiesel. Denton had runny eyes and skin allergies off and on, then had a bad reaction to a wormer (Moxidectin) he was given. His adoptive owner should not use Moxidectin or Heartworm preventatives containing Ivermectin on him. Denton recovered completely and seems fine now. His racing owner decided not race him because of his sensitivities, so Denton is looking for a pet home. He was curious and did a lot of sniffing when he met a cat, but passed his initial cat test. He was more excitable around the small, fast moving dog, but it seemed to be more puppy play drive than prey drive. His foster home has small dogs and will see how trainable he is with her dogs. Our vet has checked him and he does have thin hair but no sign of skin irritation. His eyes do get a little discharge from time to time and the results of a tear test came back slightly dry which can be caused by allergies. Our vet gave him some eye drops to try and we are waiting on the results of some other tests. She felt that his allergies were minor and shouldn't prevent him from being adopted. Denton seems sweet and pretty calm for his age. He is still in the puppy chewing stage and needs strong fleece bedding to prevent shredding. Because of his chewing he needs to be supervised in the house until he learns what is OK to chew on and what is not. He seems to prefer wood and fabric items. Denton wants to please and has been responding quickly to training in his foster home. He has done some crying and howling in his kennel, so may not be able to live in an apartment or townhouse. He quickly figured out to go to the door and bark when he needed to go outside to potty. Denton is very sweet and affectionate. His head will be in your lap anytime you sit down. He loves to play fetch and loves playing with other dogs. Denton is young and still has a playful puppy side.

Mina initially came in from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville Florida where she raced until July of 2020. She also raced some of her 30 races at Sanford Orlando race track and Palm Beach.  got up to the top A level in Orlando but dropped down fast in her last few races. Mina is a tiny brindle girl that raced at just 56lbs. Her sire is Turbo Penske and her dam is Flying Snowstorm. She turned 3 on November 12th. She still needs to be tested with cats and small dogs. She was placed in a home with two older gentlemen in August of last year, but mostly avoids them and has growled and snapped at one of them. Mina usually chose to stay at the other end of the house when they were home, but loves it when strangers come over and will run right up to anyone new for attention. She was very loving with her foster family, so we think she was just in the wrong home. Mina loves to be around other greyhounds, she has no accidents in the house and is very well mannered in the house. She also walks beautifully on leash. Since she was grumpy towards one of her previous owners we would prefer to place her in a home with no kids. Mina is doing great in her foster home since we got her back. So well that they have decided to keep her permanently.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Beshears family of Hickory NC 3/22/21

Jelly raced 50 races and ended his career at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville. He also raced at Wheeling Downs in WV and at Southland in Arkansas. He wasn't able to win at Southland or Wheeling so was moved down to a lower level track in hopes he would be able to compete. He finally was able to win a few races in Jacksonville but only managed to get up to B level. Jelly raced his last race on Dec 5th of 2020 before that track closed permanently. He was vetted in Jacksonville and placed by the track adoption center in a home. He was placed in a home with small children and he gradually got very stressed and anxious due their noise and activity. He was returned to the track adoption group for rehoming recently and they sent him to us. He lived with kittens while he was in the home and mostly avoided them. He loves stuffed animals and toys that squeak and loves it if you throw toys for him in the backyard so he can zoom after them. He also loves to chew on a Nylabone. He is a digger that would love to have a designated spot to to dig. He loves other dogs too. Jelly can be a little nervous in crowds and seems to be more comfortable with women than men.  He can be vocal so wouldn't be a good apartment dog. He will make noise at breakfast time and when the doorbell rings or on trash day when they 'steal' his trash. He loves short walks in areas he knows - just 20 - 30 minutes and then he is tired and ready for a nap. His former family reports that he is a great snuggler and wants to be a lap dog. He does have some sleep startle and doesn't like to be bothered when he is sleeping. Jelly snores, barks and even sings in his sleep. Jelly raced at 80lbs and has gotten up close to 90lbs so needs to take off some weight. His sire is TMC's Remedy and his dam is CTW Quintessence. He turned 3 on December 30th.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Boylan Family of Greenville SC 3/19/21

Special Adoption! Bonded Pair! Rebel isn't really very much of a rebel. She is actually just a bit timid at first and not a real confident girl. Rebel is tiny, racing at just 57lbs. She turned 7 on September 4th. Her sire is KC and All and her dam is Brett Lee Queen. She only raced 26 races, all of them in Wheeling WV. She was a very good racer there getting up to the top AA level quickly. After winning and doing well, she suddenly started coming in at the back of the pack. When she stopped doing well at that track, she was moved to Sanford Orlando to race. They decided that she wasn't going to race well anymore after a few schooling races there and retired her. She ran her last official race June 11th of 2016, so has been retired for years. Rebel was adopted in August of 2016 and lived with a wonderful adoptive family until now. They made the difficult decision to re-home her because they foster special needs kids. Recently they added several children to their family for a total of 5 under the age of 8. Although Rebel was OK with kids at first, she has gotten very uncomfortable with the number of kids in the family now. She would prefer a quiet home with no small kids. Rebel has lived with cats and small dogs and is fine with them. She was returned with her housemate Delilah who is also available for adoption. The two girls are very bonded and constantly lean on each other and lay together, so we would love it if we could find a special home that wants two girls. Rebel crates very quietly. Her foster home describes her as a true couch potato. She even lays down when she eats. She was pretty timid and overwhelmed when she got to her new foster home but has gotten very comfortable there in a short time. The girls are both really sweet and already well behaved so should make easy additions to a home. Because she is the more shy of the two girls, Rebel relies on Delilah. The pictures when she first arrived show the dark muzzle she used to have. The lighter muzzle photos are her new pictures.

Special Adoption! Bonded Pair! Delilah initially came in from the Daytona Beach Race Track where she raced 78 races. Her last race was June 1st of 2016 so she has been retired for years. She was adopted in October of 2016 and lived with a wonderful family until now. She is looking for a new home because her family fosters special needs children and were asked to take in some more kids. Although she was fine with a couple of kids, the 5 small kids in the home now made Delilah very uncomfortable. Her family made the difficult decision to let her go to a home where she would be more comfortable. She is a tiny 52lbs light fawn female that turned 7 on June 14th. She has the tiniest face and nose and is so cute. Her sire is WW's Dog Gone and her dam is WW's Hey Darla. Delilah passed her cat test easily so should be fine to live in a home with cats or small dogs. She was great with the cats in a foster home and stayed a distance from them and wouldn't even get close. She was around her trainers kids and around the kids in her adoptive home but does get stressed by a large number of kids around her. Delilah would prefer a home with just one or two quiet kids or no kids. Delilah is a curious, friendly girl. She didn't seem stressed at all by the earlier move from the track, but she was pretty stressed and upset, missing her family when she arrived back in foster care for the second time. She acted timid and overwhelmed in her foster home at first, but has completely relaxed now and is very comfortable now. Delilah was returned with her housemate Rebel and they are very bonded, leaning on each other and laying together. We would love to find them a special home where they can stay together. Both girls are loving and sweet and will come right up for love. They are well behaved and should make an easy addition to your home. Delilah is the more confident of the two and Rebel seems to rely on her but Delilah constantly checks in on Rebel and seems just as attached to her.

Kansas is a young greyhound puppy that just arrived from a greyhound farm. He broke his leg while playing with siblings on the farm. His owner had the leg surgically repaired with a plate. Even with the best medical repair, Kansas isn't going to be fast enough to make it at the track as a racer, so he was sent to us to place as a pet. Kansas has been X-rayed and examined by our vets and his leg is long healed. He has been released for adoption. Kansas turned one year old in August so is still pretty young and puppyish. He was tattooed at 3 months old and his tattoos are 73997 in left ear and 89A in right ear. He never completed the registration process and never actually raced. He was born on August 29th of 2019 and his sire is the famous Kelso's Fusileer. His dam is SH Norio. He has two littermates that were registered and may go on to have race careers SH minamoto and SH Yukimura.

She only raced 25 races but was good, going straight up to A level at Derby Lane in Florida. She was bumped in her last race on October 7th of 2016 and pulled up. She has been back at the farm since then. Her sire is the famous Djays Octane and her dam is Bumble Rumble. Katie raced at 68lbs and will turn 7 on February 16th. She passed her initial cat test, but has showed increase interest in the cats in her foster home as she has gotten more comfortable, so may need a home with no kitties. More as we get to know her.

Valkyrie initially came in from the Daytona Beach Race Track in January of 2020 and was called Spitfire then. She also raced at Southland in Arkansas, Orange Park in Florida and Tri-State in WV. She raced 77 races, mainly at the lower levels. She kept moving to different tracks, in hopes that they could find somewhere that she would be competitive. When she stayed at the lowest level after the last three moves, she was retired. Valkyrie is really sweet and friendly and just stares up into your eyes. She is pretty energetic and bouncy. According to her track trainer, she really loved treats and would do anything to get one. Her adoptive family says she can be a picky eater though, and only wants to eat Proplan Shredded Chicken. Valkyrie is a tiny brindle girl that raced at just 56lbs. She has cute ears that go straight up when she is curious about something and a cute curly tail. She turned 4 on November 24th. Her sire is TMC's Remedy and her dam is Asteria Drive. Spitfire seems like a very sweet girl and didn't seem to be terribly stressed by her initial move from the track or when she came back from her first adopters. Her family described her as being a more high strung girl that can stress, pant and pace in new situations. One quirky thing we have notices is that she doesn't want to go into a new crate. She sets her feet and raises her head as high as possible so she won't fit through the doorway. Once in the crate, she lays down and goes to sleep pretty fast. When she was at the vet's office she was very interested in the cats she saw, so they didn't think she would be OK with cats. After she actually sniffed our cat and it slapped her, she completely changed her mind and wouldn't go anywhere near our cats again. She seemed pretty traumatized by the one light slap the cat gave her. Spitfire has been in an adoptive home for about a year but is being re-homed with her housemate Thor because of a divorce. She is already home acclimated so should be an easy addition. Although her adoptive family didn't have small kids they said she has always been great with the kids she has been around. She was retested with cats and small dogs when we got her back and she was good with both.

Irvin is one of the very last retired racers we will be getting from Florida. The majority of the racetracks in the country were in Florida and have been gradually closing down over the last 2 years due to a vote to end Greyhound Racing in the state. Derby Lane was where Irvin raced and was one of the last two tracks to remain open, closing on December 27th. The other track closed down on December 31st.  Irvin only raced 8 races for D'Arcy Kennels, and didn't win any of them. He raced at 71lbs so is a smaller guy. He won't turn 2 until March 13th. His sire is the famous Makeshift and his dam is Shanagolden. He is arriving with 2 of his littermates Harry Bosch and Reggie Woo. Irvin was way too interested in the cat to pass his cat test. He was so interested in chasing the cat, that he wouldn't back off and didn't even seem to notice when the cat slapped him for getting too close. He definitely needs a home with no kitties. He did great when meeting a small dog after a bit of sniffing to figure out what it was. He is a friendly and happy little guy that seems to love people. He also like the kids that he met. A friend was photographing races and managed to catch Irvin in one of his last races. Be sure to check out his other pictures to see them.

Fly came to us originally from the Daytona Beach Race Track in FL in 2016 as a 2 year old. She also raced 4 of her 21 races at Wheeling Downs in WV. She never was really fast, so she was retired young. Fly is now a 6 year old 61lb fawn female. Her sire is the famous Flying Hydrogen and her dam is Kiowa WW Kitty. She is a calm girl that is good on leash. She can be just a little timid in new situations. She passed her cat test easily because she was afraid of the cat. So she should be fine to live with cats and small dogs. She did get excited and try to chase an outside neighborhood cat, but we tell all adopters that no greyhound should be outside with ANY cat no matter how safe they are indoors. Inside and outside prey drive is very different especially with an unknown cat. Fly was adopted 10/29/16 and renamed Luca. Although she was used to being around and being handled by the older kids of her trainer at the track, she hasn't been comfortable since a new baby hit toddler stage and started falling on her and crawling up to her. Her owners asked us to help them re-home her in a home without small children. They said she is the sweetest most loving dog ever and it is really hard for them to let her go.

Eraser just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville Fl. She only raced 22 races there. She got up to the top A level fast but then lost interest in racing and came in last in her last 6 races. So she was retired young. Eraser just turned 2 on August 8th and raced at 60lbs. She has been in a home with a small white Italian Greyhound and showed no interest in chasing him. She does mistake some tiny furry dogs for bunnies at a distance, so needs a careful intro. Once she is able to sniff and realizes they are actually dogs she seems to be OK. Eraser is a very happy, friendly girl. She is very sure of herself and un-phased by all the recent changes in her life. She crates calmly and quietly and is playful and fun in short spurts. A really nice personality. Eraser's foster family picked her out at the track and was hoping to keep her if she did well in their home. Eraser is a pretty confident girl and they already have a confident female that doesn't really like her, so they have decided to let her go to another adoptive home after having her a few weeks. Since Eraser is confident she may do best in a home with other male dogs or a more submissive female that is OK with someone else being in charge. Eraser has shown signs of having some separation anxiety, so probably does need a home with other dogs, so she isn't completely alone. Eraser has had mixed results with cats wanting to chase some of them but being Ok at other times, so we have concluded that she really needs a home without kitties.

Show Time just arrived as a result of all the tracks closing in Florida. She raced a few races at Southland in Arkansas but moved to Derby Lane in Florida and raced most of her 55 races there. She got up to the top A level briefly and had dropped down to C level by the time she was forced to retire. Her last race was December 26th. Show Time raced at 61lbs and is a gorgeous red brindle female. She will turn 3 on March 29th. Her sire is Show On The Road and her dam is PJ Nuke Em. She has been described as the 'perfect greyhound' by her foster family. She is affectionate, intelligent, comes to you when she needs to go outside to potty and has had no accidents in the house at all. She gets along well with the other greyhound in the house and likes to play with toys. Show Time walks beautifully on leash and the only time she pulls is when she sees another dog. She loves other dogs and gets very excited wanting to meet them. She has not been tested with cats or small dogs yet. She is working on mastering the steps in her foster home. Goldie came in from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She only raced eight races there and won two of them. She raced at 66lbs and turned 2 on April 11th. Goldie is a beautiful red girl. Her sire is P's Gibbs and her dam is Pat C Goldendrop. Goldie was vetted with our vet in Augusta GA. She is a doggy genius and is one of the smartest greyhounds her foster mom has had. She can be a Houdini and has gotten out of regular metal crates but did fine in the guillotine type crates where the door slides up or the plastic vari kennel style airline crates. She has figured out how to take her muzzle off too. She can easily clear a baby gate to get to someone on the other side. Goldie is very food motivated and will do anything for a treat, so her foster mom taught her to sit and down in just a few days. She seems like a confident, happy girl, but she does have a submissive side and will get very low to the ground if she thinks she did something wrong. Goldie is very curious about everything and doesn't seem to be timid or phased by much of anything. Since she is so happy, confident and friendly she would probably make an excellent therapy dog. Although she sleeps quietly in the crate all night, she does sometimes complain about being in the kennel so she may not be the best choice for apartment living. Goldie is such a smart dog that she would be a great dog for someone wanting to do trick training, agility or obedience. She may make a great therapy dog too. Goldie is a higher energy girl still at 2 years old so would be great for someone wanting a dog for longer walks or hikes. She has big beautiful eyes that will be hard to resist. Goldie passed her initial cat and small dog tests with some interest, but seemed easy to distract and responded well to correction. We thought she would be trainable with cats and small dogs and placed her in a home with them. She would do OK with them one day and then be too interested in them the next so she is looking for a home with no cats or small dogs now.

Ritzy just arrived from the Blanchard kennel at the Wheeling WV race track. She raced a total of 56 races there and at Orange Park in Jacksonville FL. Ritzy was good getting up to the top AA level at one of the top tracks in the country. She even competed in one Stakes race. Her last win was in early September though and she gradually started dropping levels. When her hock seemed sore after a race in December, they decided to go ahead and retired her. The soreness in her hock only lasted a few days and there is not even a limp now. Ritzy is a tall girl that raced at 66lbs. She will turn 3 on February 20th. Her sire is Pat C Sabbath and her dam is Hurricane Riot. One of our volunteers adopted her grandmother Audacious when she retired. Ritzy is a sweet girl that just stares up at you with her huge brown eyes. She doesn't seem to have any space issues at all because she liked her trainer to curl up in her kennel with her and snuggle. She is friendly and wags. She seems a bit submissive greeting people and other dogs with a lowered head and tail. She can be whiny in her kennel, so may not be a good dog for apartment living. Ritzy has been great with the small white dog she was fostered with, she also passed her cat test with just some casual sniffing and didn't seem very interested at all. Her trainer reports that she got along good with the other dogs at the kennel and never caused any problems there. Her trainer said she was clean and didn't have accidents in the kennel either. More as we get to know her.

Bandit initially came in from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race track. He raced 80 races there. He raced at 71lbs so is a mid sized guy that just turned 3 on October 24th. His sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is JS luck B A Lady. Bandit is a very relaxed guy that loves to snooze. He is very sweet but a little shy. It takes him little while to warm up, but he does. He isn't a real needy guy and is perfectly happy to just lay on a dog bed. Recently he has started sleeping on the couch and his mom's bed too. Bandit is a gorgeous, light fawn with a darker face. He is very curious about everything and isn't afraid to check things out on walks and will even go up to people sometimes on walks. Bandit was adopted in December of 2019 by a family with several small kids and several dogs. He did good there but tends to avoid the more crazy times of the day by going to another room. He would probably appreciate a quieter home with older kids or fewer small kids. His family just moved to a farm and Bandit just can't resist chasing chickens and their other outside livestock. So they made the difficult decision to rehome Bandit. He just needs a home without chickens or livestock that he may be tempted to chase and a quieter home where he can be more comfortable. Bandit has lived with indoor cats and is OK with adult cats that stand up for themselves indoors. He is too excitable around a new small kitten that runs and plays though, so would need a home with indoor confident adult cats only - no outdoor kitties. Bandit is fine with the other dogs of other breeds and sizes in his home. This sweet boy is already home acclimated and ready to be an incredible pet.

Reggie is one of the very last retired racers arriving from Florida tracks that have been gradually closing the last 2 years. He raced just 5 races at Derby Lane and finished toward the back of the pack in all 5. He raced at 71lbs and is a pretty small guy. Reggie will turn 2 on March 13th and is a gorgeous black guy. His sire is the famous Makeshift and his dam is Shanagolden. He is coming in with his littermates Irvin Irving and Harry Bosch. The litter were all named for the Harry Bosch books and TV series. Reggie passed his cat test easily with only some curious sniffing and is doing good with the cats in his foster home. He was also good with a small dog he met. He can be a little vocal and barks sometimes when he sees or hears something outside so probably wouldn't be a good apartment dog. He is a friendly, happy guy that seems like he loves people. He put his head on the shoulder of the driver for much of the trip up from Florida. He liked the small kids he met too.

Vrod is a gorgeous black brindle boy with very few gold stripes. Very striking and unusual. Vrod's sire is Vina Marina and his dam is Summer Song. He was vetted at the track vet before coming to us. Vrod passed his initial cat and small dog tests at the track without much interest in either. He was very excitable around the cat in his foster home though so we moved him to a foster home with no kitties and feel he would do better in an adoptive home without cats. He does do fine with small dogs though. Vrod loves to play with toys and is very social and loving. John retired in March of 2020. was raised at the Plum Creek Farm and raced most of his career at the Celtic Hounds kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He was pretty good getting up to the top A level there and winning. He was moved to Southland in Arkansas, a faster track with tougher competition. When he wasn't doing real well there, he was moved back to Orlando. He has a 125 races. John's sire is the famous BD's Grayson and his dam is Copy Cat. He is a mid sized male racing at 75lbs. He will turned 4 on December 20th. John passed his cat and small dog tests with just some initial curiosity, then lost interest quickly. He should be fine to live with either. He is a very happy friendly guy with a bounce in his step. His trainer says he is a total love bug. He was also called Johnny Boy at the kennel sometimes. John was adopted in March of 2020 and his name was changed to Boss. He is looking for a new home now because the female greyhound in his home never really liked having him there. His owners hoped she would gradually get better with him, but she bossed him around, bothered him trying to get him to play and wouldn't allow him to run in the yard, play with her toys or be around 'her' people. Boss would like a home as an only dog or with an older, calm dog that isn't bossy or overly playful. He does love to run in the yard, just a few laps. He plays with stuffed toys for a couple of minutes, then is done. He is wonderful with people, very loving and couldn't be any sweeter. His owner says he is the sweetest soul he has ever met and his foster mom agrees. It was a very hard, emotional decision for his owners to give him up. Boss liked the grandkids of his owners ages 3, 6 and 11 and has always been good with them.

Justin, the girl with the boy name, just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville Fl. She was vetted before coming to us by the track adoption kennels vet. Day raced 115 races starting out her career at Southland in Arkansas. From there she moved to Orlando and was a top A level racer there until they closed. Then she was moved to Orange Park to finish her career. She started slowing down but did manage to win her very last race at D level. Justin is a sweet girl that is very quiet and calm. She might be OK to live in an apartment because she is so quiet and good in her kennel. Justin was a little overwhelmed at first and needed about a week to really get comfortable. She has gotten very sweet and friendly once she was more relaxed. Justin can still be a little jumpy with fast movements or things that scare her. She eats well and seems very food motivated. Justin loves to go for walks. She was intimidated and a little afraid of the cat she met and has been great with the small white dog in her foster home. Justin just turned 4 on October 12th. Her sire is the famous KC and All and her dam is Under The Stars. When Justin arrived her muzzle said 'Day' on it so we were calling her that and she seemed to respond to that. Later we found out from a past trainer that she was called Justin since she was a small puppy so she appears to know both names.

Muffin came in from the Roban farm in Florida. She just turned 2. She never raced because she was born with knees that weren't formed right and was unable to run competitively. She plays and has a good time with other dogs and it doesn't seem to cause her any pain though.  Our vets X-rayed her back legs, checked her over and don't believe that she needs treatment at this time. We don't have much info on her since she never was registered to race. She came in for one of our adopters that met her on a trip to the farm and wanted to adopt her. She is not available at this time. She does have tattoos in her ears.

Bluebird came in from the Roban Farm in Florida. She never raced due to lack of interest, speed or both. She got ear tattoos at 3 months but never was registered and given a racing name at around a year old like most greyhounds. Because of this we don't have much info on her. She is not available at this time. She was picked out by one of our adopters that met her while visiting the greyhound farm. She came in specifically for her. Bluebird just turned 2 on December.

Shane just arrived from the Running to Stand Still Farm in Florida. He raced only 10 maiden races at Derby Lane in FL and didn't win any of them. He got bumped in his last race in February of 2020 and had a minor muscle injury, so went back to the farm for some down time. Shane healed up completely long ago. Even though he would have been fine to return to racing, racing is ending in Florida at the end of this year, so Shane's owner decided to just retire him permanently rather than return him to racing for just a few months. Shane is a very special dog whose racing name was given to him in honor of his owner's late husband. He turned 2 on May 14th. Shane's sire is the famous Kiowa Myth and his dam is Be Limitless. Shane raced at 73lbs but currently weighs 76. He is personality plus. Shane will just lean against you for love and his whole body wags when he gets excited. When he gets excited, he bounces and sometimes tries to give hugs. He is very food motivated so may be a great guy for someone that wants to do trick or obedience training. Shane paid very little attention to the cat when he met it and also did great with a small white dog he is fostered with, so should be able to live with either. He loves everyone he meets including the small kids in his foster home. Shane does pull on leash excitedly going to check out new people and things, we are working on that. He crates very quietly so may do well for apartment or townhouse living. Shane was a marker when he first arrived, but is doing good on his potty training in his foster home now. He is likely to need close supervision when acclimating to a new home. Shane has been perfectly behaved with the male and female dogs in his foster home. His racing owner reported that he was a confident guy that could be a bit bossy with some of the other male greyhounds he was turned out with. His neuter may have helped with that, because we have seen no bossiness and have been surprised at how tolerant he has been with a bossy, annoying, large puppy in his foster home. Shane has the best personality and seems like a fun, loving dog that will make a wonderful, devoted pet for some lucky family.

Aspen just arrived from the Running to Stand Still Farm in Florida. Due to the Florida tracks closing she is not going to be able to race. She is young and just turned 1 year old on August 3rd. She was tattooed but never finished the registration process to get a racing name and has just been known as Aspen her entire life. Her sire is Makeshift and her dam is Lily Langtree. Since she never raced, we don't have a racing weight for her. She arrived with her littermate Lily. We can place the two girls together, but if placed together they have to be the only dogs in the family. Together, they gang up and bully other dogs according to their owner. They do better playing with other dogs when they are separated. Aspen is very friendly and happy girl. She is young and hasn't had the normal training that greyhounds get at the track. She needs work on her leash walking skills and manners. Aspen passed her cat test and small dog tests easily, so should do fine living with either. She is very young and playful so is going to want to play with any dog in the family. Because of the size difference, play should be discouraged between her and a small dog. Aspen will be vetted at Oasis Animal Hospital in Mauldin. Be sure to look at Aspen's photos to see some our volunteers took of her on the farm when she was 3 months old.

She weighed in at 62lbs when she arrived. Blade passed her cat and small dog tests without much interest in either. She is friendly and happy after she warms up, but she can be very timid at first. Her first trip off the farm where she was born was very stressful and overwhelming for her. She has warmed up to her foster family after a few days and has shown her playful silly side. She loves to run in the yard, but only for a short while and then she spends most of the day sleeping. Blade won't be 2 until November 1st. She has not had an accident, not chewed anything, no counter surfing, and has been quiet in the crate. She does not like staircases but has done OK on just 4 steps going down to a potty area. Blade never got an official racing name, but was tattooed at 3 months old. Her tattoos are 118B 73078. Her sire is Pat C Clement and her dam is Lily Langtry. Blade was vetted at Oasis Animal Hospital in Mauldin. Blade was in a home with an elderly lady for a couple of months and was mostly good but pawed at her for attention and when she was playful. That was hard on her owners very fragile skin so she has made the decision to re-home her.

He was retired young and won't turn 2 until March 26th. Pop weighs 83lbs so he is an extra large male. His sire is the very famous Flying Hydrogen and his dam is Braska Star. He has just been vetted at our vets in the Augusta area. Pop's foster mom says he is very chill and very loving. He passed his cat test at the track and showed no interest in the cats at the vets office either. He should be fine to live with cats or small dogs. He gets along with the greyhounds in his foster home and has had no accidents in the house so far. He doesn't like stairs but can do the 3 coming into the house. He is quiet so could be an apartment dog if the apartment was on the ground floor. Even though he is a big guy, he is very good on leash and doesn't pull. He hasn't tried to get on the furniture in his foster home and has been very well behaved. He likes to be near people and will follow from room to room. Pops is very cute with big Groucho Marx black eyebrows. He travels well and loves to chase balls.

Kat came in from the Brindle Kennel at the Palm Beach Race Track. Her racing owner is one of our group's volunteers and she asked us to help her place Kat. Her owner recently broke her back and can't bring in a new dog into her home right now. Kat was not a good racer. Out of her 66 races she only won one race and came in 2nd in one. Kat raced at 66lbs and is very young. She turns 2 on November 15th. Kat is definitely not a Devil Kat and is a really timid shy girl that is very overwhelmed by being in a home for the first time and being away from her littermates and trainer at the track. She is going to take a bit to warm up to a new environment and people she doesn't know. Her new family will need to be patient with her as she warms up. She needs a quiet home and they should expect her to take a few weeks to warm up to them, if not longer. Her foster thinks she would do best with experienced greyhound owners that have worked with shy dogs before. Kat passed her small dog tests and did fine with the kids she met, but if placed with children she would need to be around calm, quiet, kids only because noisy toys and running and yelling would definitely scare her. Kat is a gorgeous fawn girl with golden eyes and lots of dark eyeliner. Just gorgeous!

He won 15 of his 48 races and placed 2nd in a lot more races. He had a career ending injury on August 19th in his last race. He was completely healed up before we picked him up at the track adoption kennel and shows no sign of an injury now. Adieu is a gorgeous brindle guy with lots of white. White stockings, white chest, white spot on the back of his neck and a white blaze on his nose. Very flashy! Very sweet and friendly too. He passed his cat test without any interest and did fine with the small dog he met too. He is being fostered in a townhouse so may be OK for apartment or townhouse living. Adieu is a tiny guy, racing at just 64lbs. He will turn 3 on February 21st. Adieu loves toys and will choose to sleep in his crate on his back with his legs in the air in a position we call the greyhound 'roach'

Gift just arrived from the Roban farm in Florida with her littermate Cinnamon. She went back to the farm to be a mom after her racing career was over. She had one litter of 4 pups in October of 2018 that has just started their race career at the Wheeling Track in WV. Gift raced 50 races, starting her career at Orange Park, then Sarasota, Ebro, back to Sarasota and finally Sanford Orlando. Her last race was May 5th of 2017. She wasn't a very good racer, but some of her litter were superstars, including one brother who is now a stud dog. So Gift ended up being chosen to carry on the bloodline too. Her sire is the famous Flying Coal City and her dam is Raiders Chia. Gift raced at 64lbs and turned 6 on March 3rd. More as we get to know her.

Cinnamon just arrived from the Roban Farm in FL. She is a littermate to Precious Gift that arrived at the same time. Cinnamon raced 76 races at Orange Park, Flagler and Naples Ft Myers in Florida. She retired from Naples on April 22nd 2017. She wasn't a very good racer, racing most of her career at the lower D Level. Some of her littermates were superstars at the track, so when Cinnamon retired from racing, she went back to the farm to be a mom. They didn't end up actually breeding her due to racing ending in Florida at the end of this year. So she has just been living at the farm for a few years and is being sent to us to find an adoptive home now. Cinnamon raced at 68lbs and turned 6 on March 3. Her sire is the famous Flying Coal City and her dam is Raiders Chia. More as we get to know her.

Friday is a return that we were asked to assist with rehoming. He was originally adopted through God's Greyts in Florida but is located in our area now. Friday is a 72lb male that raced 48 races at the Sanford Orlando Race track. He was good, getting up to the top A level right before they closed permanently back in March. He was adopted then and has been living in a home with a lot of cats since then. His sire is the famous Djays Octane and his dam is WhiskeyBodacious. His whole litter was named for different Whiskeys. Friday turned 3 on February 27th. He is an energetic dog that will be a fun guy for a lucky family. Friday doesn't appear to have had any potty training, manners training or leash training yet, so just needs a family that has enough experience with dogs to teach him the basics and show him how he is supposed to act in a home. Although he hasn't shown any sign of food, space or any other type of aggression with our foster home, his previous owner said he did snap once, so we would prefer to place him in a home with no children. More as we get to know him.

She has already been vetted by the adoption kennel in Jacksonville before arrival. She was actually placed in a home with a retired couple in Jacksonville for several weeks but they decided to re-home her when one of them was diagnosed with advanced cancer. Arachne likes kids but still needs tested with cats and small dogs.

Change just came in from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She raced just 17 races there and only won one of them so was retired young. She won't turn 2 until January 14th and raced at 61lbs. Her sire is the famous Seldom Told and her dam is Boc's Good Carma. She will be vetted with Emerald City Animal Hospital in Greenwood SC. Her foster dad picked her out on a trip to the track kennel because she was so sweet. Change has been a little timid and shy since she got into foster care with all the changes in her life. She is quiet in her kennel and potties nicely on leash so may be a good apartment dog. She eats really well and likes other dogs and tries to get them to play with her. She has an almost heart shaped brindle spot on her back.

Sherry is a 62lb black female that came in from the Bolton Farm in Florida. She was a very good racer that raced 104 races, mostly at the top A level. She also raced in a couple of Stakes races for the best racers at the track. Sherry retired back in July and was sent back to the farm to be a mom. Since the vote to end greyhound racing in Florida passed, her owners decided not to breed her and sent her to us to place. We have already placed several of her littermates. They are all very sweet dogs. Her sire is Golden Squire and her dam is B My Merlot. Sherry is a very friendly girl. We have followed her career closely and our volunteers visited her at the track so we have lots of photos of her. Be sure to check out her other photos to see a few of them. Whoever adopts this girl will inherit a lot of pictures. Sherry was adopted in November of 2019 but is available again. Her family had several small kids and Sherry liked them at first but has grown less tolerant of the fast movements and loud noises that kids make over the year she has been there. She is stressed and unhappy there so they decided to rehome her. Sherry is looking for another family without small kids.

Diggity just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at the Orange Park race track in Jacksonville FL. He raced 34 races there and only managed to win 3 of his races. So he was retired young. He turned 2 on July 30th. Diggity raced at 69lbs. His sire is Time Flies and his dam is Backwood Alva. Diggity showed only some slight interest in the cat when he met it but never wanted to actually get near the cat. He acted like he already had met a cat or two and knew they had claws. He has been around a small white dog and did fine with him too. So he should be a good dog for a home with cats or small dogs. Diggity is a happy friendly guy that seems pretty calm and well behaved. He seemed to take the move from track to home in stride. He is a gorgeous shiny black male that is so handsome. More as we get to know him.

Love just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track. She never actually raced. She had a minor shoulder injury in schooling in July so went back to the Bolton farm in Florida for a few weeks to rest and rehab. After she healed up and went back into schooling, she twisted her hock. Although it was not broken, it was pretty sore. The decision was made to retire her rather than risking any further injury. We have quite a few photos of her because she was one of the racers a group of our volunteers followed online since her owners bought her at auction. Love is a sweet girl that seems very laid back and very loving. She passed her cat with only a couple of quick sniffs and would jump away if the cat approached her so she should be fine to live with cats and small dogs. Her sire is Gigawatt and her dam is KB's Rae Bae. She weighs around 60lbs but doesn't have an official racing weight since she never got that far. She just turned 2 on August 23rd. Our vet has looked at her leg and doesn't see any obvious lameness and the swelling has gone down already, so she should recover fully.

Mason (Belville, NC)
Adoption Status: In Process to the Mason Family of Belville NC 10/28/20

Special Needs! Tad came in from the Blanchard Kennels at Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She didn't actually race there though. She actually raced at Blanchard Kennels at Wheeling Downs in WV first, then was moved to their kennel at Tri-State in WV. Tad raced 103 races and did get up to the top AA level at Tr-State so was a good racer. She just turned 4 on May 25th and raced at 61lbs. Her sire is NMS Sweet Thing and her dam is Boc's Posh Spice. Tad was a little shy and overwhelmed when she arrived but does warm up pretty fast and loves her people deeply. She passed her cat test with just some sniffing and would back away from the cat when it approached and rubbed on her. She lived in a home with a cat and was afraid of it. Tad came in with a note attached to her paperwork from her trainer: "Tad is very special, she's a little strange but awesome". Tad is special needs because she has pretty severe separation anxiety. She needs to be crated when left to keep her from being destructive and going potty in the house, but she is very loud in the crate and hates it. Since she is loud in the crate she definitely couldn't live in a townhouse or apartment. She needs to have blankets as padding in her crate rather than a dog bed, because she likes to unstuff dog beds when left alone. Although she passed her small dog test, she can be bossy with other dogs small and large so may do better as an only dog. Having another dog in the home to hang out with when left doesn't seem to help her separation anxiety. Tad has been returned a couple of times now due to her separation anxiety. She is looking for a quiet home that has people home most of the time that can spend time working with her and help her get over her separation anxiety. She can have tummy issues, but since retirement has been on a lamb based food. She has also been able to eat fish treats, beef, pasta, and milkbones. She was fed a mostly beef diet at the track. Tad has been living in a home without a fenced yard and does potty well on leash. She loves to run and play at the dog park, so would do great in a home with a fenced yard too. She loves to go for car rides and will jump right in the car on her own. She loves kids and seems drawn to them, but since she can be bossy with other dogs, we would prefer to place her in a home with no small kids.
