Alexa just arrived from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She actually had 5 maiden races at Derby Lane first, but came in toward the back of the pack every time. Just too slow, so was moved to Orlando in hopes she would be more competitive there. She schooled a few times there and was retired without an official race. Alexa is a pretty white girl with fawn (tan) spots. She raced at 63lbs and won't turn 2 until March 4th so is very young. Her sire is the famous Djays Octane and her dam is Penrose Karrie. She was interested in the cat she met at the race track, but we retested here and she just sniffed the cat. When the cat slapped her she wouldn't go near it again and just wanted to get out of the room. She was curious and a little playful when introduced to the small dog but was intimidated by the yappy little dogs at the vet's office. She seems like a sensitive girl that is a little unsure of everything new right now. More as we get to know her.

Andy is a smaller, red, male that raced at 66lbs. He will turn 5 on July 26th. His sire is Little Andy and his dam is Pal WW Wendy. Andy passed his cat test and small dog tests. Very friendly and happy guy that is fun and bouncy. He is very curious about everything and doesn't seem to be phased by all the changes in his life. Andy was so comfortable that he was laying on his back in his kennel with his feet in the air in what we call the greyhound "roach" within a few hours of arriving from the track. Greyhounds do this when they are very relaxed and comfortable and many take months to get that comfortable in a new home. Andy is a very sweet happy guy that loves everyone.

Adoption Status: Adopted to the Foster family 1/20/18

Cord came to us from a Florida farm where he has been living since he retired from racing in March of 2016. He had been waiting over a year and a half for a group to take him. He only raced 36 races in Palm Beach and only actually won 2 of those. Cord turned 4 on June 20th. His sire is the famous Craigie Whistler and his dam is Atascocita Miama, He was owned by Atascocita Racing which is why that is the first part of his name. Cord has a very old break to his back right leg that is long healed and shouldn't cause him any problems as a pet. He can play normally but does have a slight limp so probably would prefer shorter walks rather than long hikes. Cord travels well and just got in the van and laid down. He potties on leash nicely so may do fine without a fenced yard, if someone was willing to leash walk him. He is very quiet so may be good for a townhouse or apartment. He seems like a very calm, well behaved guy that is calmly friendly. Cord liked the children he met and was fine even with a cat running past him. Cord seems to be exceptionally low prey drive and had no interest even in chinchillas he lived with. He did great at a doggy daycare with even the smaller dogs. Cord is very laid back and is perfectly happy laying on his bed watching things going on around him and doesn't need to be the center of attention. After Cord gets comfortable with his family he is playful.

Chains just arrived from the Melbourne Race Track. He also raced briefly at Flagler and Mardi Gras tracks, but wasn't able to win one race at either. He was fast enough to place in the few races he did race though. After being moved to Melbourne they entered him in two schooling races and he refused to even run. Since Chains is the rare greyhound that would rather not chase the lure. When he met cats and small dogs he didn't want to chase them either, so would be fine to live with either. Chains is a 75lb brindle male that turned 2 on September 10th. His Sire is SH Avatar and his dam is DK"s Send All. Chains was very concerned about slick floors and didn't want to walk on them at all so will need some coaching there. He is a friendly happy guy that likes people.

She was casted by a vet at the track and wore it there at the track for 6 weeks. She has been released from vet care and is doing well on the leg. She is a red female that just turned 3 on Dec 17th. She raced at 62lbs. Her sire is SH Avatar and her dam is KL's Shannon. Our vet checked Shorty and her leg is stable so she feels like it has healed well. Shorty still holds it up sometimes when standing, but can get around on it just fine. She may continue to have a slight limp on it or favor it just a little, but she should be able to run around and have fun like any other dog. Shorty is very sweet and likes the kids in her foster home. Shorty passed her cat and small dog tests easily and seemed a little afraid of the cat. She is very affectionate and sweet too.

She raced at 66lbs and turned 3 on October 17th. Kahlua is a very very tall leggy girl that was taller than the 77lb male that she arrived with. She is white with just a couple of dark red spots that nearly look brown. She is just stunning! Her sire is Djays Octane and her dam is KL's Tasha. She walked through the lobby of the vet's office that was full of small dogs and didn't pay much attention to them and is being fostered with a small white dog so she should be OK to live with small dogs. She also passed her cat test and even when the cat ran through the house didn't show any interest in chasing. She is a bit unsure of herself at first and will approach with her head lowered submissively but she is friendly and wants petting. She will lean up against you and give the greyhound hug. We also think we saw a small grin once when she got excited. She seems like a pretty calm girl that traveled well.

Topsy just arrived from a farm in Tampa. He has no races listed so just didn't show much promise as a racer when he was in schooling. He turned 2 on April 21st. His sire is Atascocita Bowl and his dam is Atascocita Hush. Topsy is a medium sized guy that is very sweet. He loves people and loves to snuggle. Topsy has a wonderful, friendly, happy personality. He is a gorgeous deep red with cute ears that stand straight up when he is checking something out. Topsy was too interested in the first cat he was tested with, so we had him listed as needing a home with no cats. We gave him some time and retested him with another cat and was fine with that cat. Sometimes they calm down a bit after retirement. We think he is likely to be trainable now with supervision and can introduce him to your individual cat to see how he reacts. Topsy lived with some 35lb medium sized dogs in his first foster home and was fine with them. He met a toy poodle and a chihuahua and was friendly and appropriate with them too.  He is wonderful with children and is being fostered in a home with several kids and loves to play with them and snuggle with them. Topsy is calm and very well behaved in the house. He does get excited to check everything out and to greet everyone when on walks so we are working on his leash skills. He travels great and loves to go for rides. This cute guy will make a wonderful happy companion.

Indy came in from the Alves Kennel at the Daytona track. She also raced a few races at Orange Park in Florida. Her racing owner is a friend of our group's and she asked if we would find her an adoptive home. Indy is a tiny girl that raced at just 53lbs. She only raced 10 races and always finished towards the back of the pack. Her first 3 races she was so far back she wasn't even in the picture, so she was retired right away. Indy just turned 2 on November 6th so is very young. Her sire is Hi Noon Renegade and her dam is SL Wolfgang. Indy passed her small dog test easily and is being fostered with a small white dog. She also passed her cat test. She seemed like she had met a cat before and cautiously avoided going near it at all. Indy is pretty outgoing, happy and curious about everything. We are working on her leash skills because she pulls some. She is normally very quiet and well behaved in her kennel, once she got used to it, but occasionally she can complain a bit so we think she probably would be too loud for apartment living. Indy is loving and gives gentle kisses. She is a natural sitter and you will see her sitting on dog beds frequently which is unusual because many greyhounds are uncomfortable in that position. Indy is a very sweet little girl.

Life came to us from the Melbourne Track and initially arrived on April 17th of 2016. He has been in a home for over a year, since right after he arrived. Life was returned to us because his family's living arrangements changed and he had been put outside. He was not happy living in their backyard - greyhounds are indoor pets only. Life is a mid sized boy that raced at 71lbs. He turned 6 on April 8th. His sire is Rhythmless and his dam is As She Is Basra. Life had 183 races to his credit and raced at many different tracks and traveled around a lot. He raced at Dubuque in IA, then Mardi Gras in FL, back to Dubuque, then back to Mardi Gras, then back to Dubuque and back again to Mardi Gras. Then on to Naples Ft-Myers and on to Flagler and finally Melbourne, all in Florida. In spite of all that racing he wasn't all that good and was going from track to track in hopes he would be competitive at one of them. He raced mainly at the lower levels. When he just didn't do well at any of the tracks he was eventually retired. Life is a gorgeous, sweet, friendly boy. He didn't pass his cat test so needs a home without them but did fine with the small dog he met. Because Life lived in a home for a year already he is already home acclimated. He is a wonderful guy with a great personality.

Shock just arrived from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He only had one official race there though and raced at Derby Lane in FL, Southland in Arkansas, and Bluffs Run in IA before that. He was actually pretty good getting up to B level at the top Race Track, Southland, briefly. Then for some reason he just dropped to the lowest D level even after being moved down to slower less competitive tracks. It looks like he would just give in to the other dogs if they wanted to take the lead. Although he traveled a good bit from track to track he seemed to be pretty stressed by the trip up from Florida. He rides well though and just got in and laid down for another 3 hour trip to Atlanta and didn't seem stressed at all then. He seems like a sensitive guy that is calm and well behaved. He is very quiet in his crate. His trainer says he always kept his crate clean and was a very good with the other dogs, just a very nice guy. Shock passed his cat and small dog tests easily without much interest in either and doesn't even seem interested in chasing birds and squirrels in the yard. His sire is KC And All and his dam is Competing Forces. Shock has settled into foster care quickly and never tried to mark in the house once. He went out to a very busy fair and was totally fine with all the people and noise around him and heeled politely the entire time. He liked the people and kids that came up to him to pet him. His foster mom thinks he would be an excellent therapy dog or service dog candidate because of his calm easy going nature and because he seemed so comfortable in a loud busy environment.

Skorsky's litter was all named for the characters in the Netflix series House of Cards. We already placed her brother Frank Underwood. She raced 71 races at the Sanford Orlando Race Track in the Bolton Kennel. She got up to A level briefly. Her last race was in early September and she didn't do well, so her trainer gave her a break from racing in hopes she would do better. She is so timid that her trainer figured that something had scared Skorsky. They have tried her in a couple of schooling races in hopes of getting her back into racing, but her heart is still not in it, so they decided to just retired her. Skorsky raced at 68lbs and turned 3 on October 29th. She is a stocky muscular girl. Her sire is KC and All and her dam is D's Honey Badger. She can be a little standoffish with strangers, but once she warms up is really sweet and playful. Her foster home says she is very sensitive to body language and she can't approach Skorsky directly without her shying away. She is food motivated and will take treats from her hand though. Skorsky walks well on leash and will potty on leash although she keeps her eye on her foster mom and is more comfortable if she is not facing her. She likes her crate and chooses to spend time in an open crate. She is the typical genetically shy greyhound, like shy people they just need time to warm up. Skorsky will need a family that is OK with her even if she never becomes a social butterfly. She was interested in the cats when she met them but corrected easily. She is fostered with several cats so her foster mom is getting her used to being around them and believes she will be fine with supervision.

Bentley raced a 181 races at Orange Park in Florida and won 32 of those races. He was a very good racer that raced at the top A level for most of his career. He competed in Stakes races for the best dogs at the track. He raced at 68lbs and turned 8 on May 28th. Bentley's sire is Oya Tom Terrific and his dam is GS Flame. Bentley has been in an adoptive home for some time now but he was re-homed by one of his owners due to a divorce. The adoption group that placed him initially has asked if we could re-home him for them. Bentley was checked by our vet, is healthy and received a fresh dental. His vaccines are all up to date and he has obviously had great care by his previous family. Bentley is a very sweet boy that is friendly and happy. He was around small kids from 2 to 10 at the race kennel so is used to being around them. He loves the kids in his foster home now. Bentley has lived with cats and is fine with small dogs. He is already home acclimated and ready to meet his new family. Bentley is sweet and silly and playful and has no idea that he is 8 years old. He is a great snuggler and wants to be in your lap or at least have some part of his body on you. He is very very loving. He has had no accidents in his foster home and is exceptionally well behaved. He is fine when left out of the crate unsupervised and doesn't get into anything. This is a great guy and so handsome.

Great news for Bentley! One of his previous owners didn't know Bentley had been turned over to us to re-home. He had intended to come back to get him all along and had been out of town when Bentley was turned over to us. Bentley is thrilled to be back with his family and we were thrilled to be able to reunite them.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Schoenberger family of Greenwood SC 12/16/17

Nosey came in from a farm in WV. She raced at both Tri State and Wheeling in WV. She was a good racer that was in several Stakes races that are reserved for the best racers at the track. Nosey was even a finalist in the 2010 Wheeling WVGOBA Middle Distance Championship. She raced 74 races and finished up her career in January of 2013. Nosey went back to the farm to become a mom and had 6 puppies in 2014 and 4 more in 2015 that are registered and racing now. She probably had more that are still too young to race. Nosey is a cute red girl that raced at 64lbs and will celebrate her 9th birthday on November 24th. She definitely doesn't look her age. Her sire is the famous Flying Penske and her dam is Myokie Flame. She is a very friendly girl that loves to snuggle with her people. Very very sweet and doing well in foster care. She passed her small dog test easily and was OK with some cats she met but has been somewhat interested in some others so we think she may be trainable and just needs to meet and get used to being around cats. She can be introduced to your cats on request to see how she does.

Destiny is coming in from the Alves kennel at the Daytona Beach Race Track. She only raced 5 races there and finished at the very back of the pack in all of them. Destiny was retired young and just turned 2 on November 2nd. Her owner is a friend of our group's and asked us if we could help her find her an adoptive home. Her sire is the famous Trent Lee and her dam is Dancin InMiami. Destiny passed her small dog test easily so should be fine to live in a home with small dogs. She is very quiet in her kennel so may be a good choice for apartment living. She seems like a calm girl that is just a bit overwhelmed with everything.

Bella is a retiring brood mom that came in from Wheeling, West Virginia. She has 16 puppies in two litters that are racing now and probably has at least one younger litter still at the farm. She was a very good racer that was a top level AA racer at Wheeling Downs which is one of the top tracks in the US. She raced 94 races there mostly at A and AA level. She raced at 65lbs and turned 7 on March 17th so is a St Patricks girl. Her sire is the famous Jimbo Scotty and her dam is Bella Neutron. Bella is an alert, friendly girl that was curiously checking things out when we got her. She rode well in the car and seems like a pretty confident, easy going gal. Bella passed her cat and small dog tests with just a casual sniff and is being fostered in a home with cats. She is white with the cutest tiny freckles like pepper in her fur. Not the larger ticking like we normally see just tiny black flecks. Very unusual and unique. She also has a very long nose with a long overbite which is very cute. Very cute girl!

He raced 23 races at Palm Beach and at Naples Ft Myers but only won 1 of those and rarely placed in the money so had a short career. His sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is Atascocita Gilma, Past will turn 3 on December 10th. He passed both his cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. The owner of the farm he was on thought he would be good with kids too and he is being fostered in a home with kids. He traveled well on the trip to us and was good and quiet in his kennel even the very first night after he arrived. He seems like a happy friendly guy so far that likes everyone. He was just a little stressed by the changes but was quickly on his back napping with his feet in the air in a very relaxed position.

Dottie was a good racer that had a long career of 205 races at the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville Florida. She raced mostly at the top A level and won a lot of races and even was a competitor in several Stakes races that are open only to the top dogs racing at that track. She raced at 62lbs and turned 5 on the 4th of July. Her sire is Kelso's Lorenzo and her dam is Steffie's Mandy. We placed GS Simon and GS Not Cracker that were from other litters that her mom had. Thyme raced at 63lbs and turned 4 on July 9th. She retired from racing a year ago after an injury and went back to the farm probably to become a mom. They just decided to send her to her own home. Thyme is a very calm laid back girl that traveled well and just laid down in the van. When she got to the house she just went into the crate and laid down quietly. She passed her cat and small dog tests with just a casual sniff.  She was around several small children over the Thanksgiving holiday and seemed very comfortable around them she even went to check on one when it was crying. So far she has been a very good girl.

Willow is a beautiful, tall, dark red, girl that is all leg. She is very tall for a girl and was even taller than some of the boys she arrived with. Willow is very young and won't turn 2 until February 6th. She had a minor muscle tear on her inner thigh while on the farm so they decided not to send her to race. This will not bother her at all and she could have actually raced even after this type of injury because it would only slow her down the tiniest bit. Because she never raced she doesn't have a racing weight but we would guess her to be around 68lbs. Her sire is RCK Trail Blazer and her dam is NAD Gypsy. Willow is still puppyish and needs some work on walking on leash and basic manners like not jumping on people. She loves to jump up and give hugs. Because she is young she may be a bit higher energy still. She passed her small dog test and just wanted to play with the little dog. She still needs to be cat tested and tested with small kids. Willow is a very happy friendly girl. She is pretty quiet in her kennel. More as we get to know her.

She is owned by Atascocita Racing which is how she got her first name. She is a friendly, happy, little girl that is already one of her foster mom's favorite fosters ever. Her foster mom says Corda is a sweet girl that is so loving that she follows her around the house. Whenever you stop and look at her she rolls over for belly rubs. She adores the children in her foster home and snuggles with them ever chance she gets. Beast is a tall, handsome, 79lb, brindle male with a white chest and feet that was originally adopted directly from a Derby Lane racing kennel in Florida. Because of a change in their living arrangements, his adoptive owners have asked us for assistance finding him a new home. Beast also raced at the Southland Track in Arkansas briefly. He raced 103 races and got up to the top A level. His last race was October 5th of 2015 and he has been in an adoptive home since then. Beast turned 5 on August 23rd. His sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Flying Havana. He is a friendly, confident guy that loves to go for rides in the car. He was living with small dogs in his previous home and in his current foster home and gets along great with them. He showed no interest in the cats at the vet's office. Beast crates wonderfully and quietly. His owner says he hasn't really been around children but he can be a little grumpy about being bothered when sleeping so we think he would do better with older kids that would understand not to bother him then. We got Beast neutered and gave him a fresh dental and heart worm test and got his vaccinations up to date so he is freshly vetted and ready to go home. He is a very sweet guy that hasn't seemed stressed at all by being rehomed. He is happy and has taken everything in stride. Seems like a very well behaved boy.

Beast was adopted by the family that owns his mother Flying Havana. They were reunited right after she was diagnosed with bone cancer.

Frank just came in from the Birmingham Race Course. He also raced at Southland in Arkansas. He was a very good racer that got up to A level. Frank is a very special boy that is a one of a kind. He has a slightly crooked nose and has a lower canine that sticks out one side because of his crooked nose. One of his ears is slightly longer than the other and he has half a tail. We think this just makes him cuter and so does he. He was a kennel favorite because of this and his sweet personality and is used to getting lots of love and attention from everyone that came in the kennel. He is an extra large guy that raced at 84lbs and is a gentle giant. Frank is calm and sweet and seems to like everyone from adults to kids. He had a little initial interest in the cat he met, but corrected easily so we think he would easily be trainable with cats. Frank turned 3 on October 29th and yes his entire litter was named after characters in the Netflix series House Of Cards. He travels really well and just got in the van and laid down and went to sleep on the trip over from Birmingham.

Chili just arrived from the Birmingham Race Track Adoption Kennel. She didn't actually race there though and was just sent there to get on one of their dog hauls to adoption groups across the country. She raced 85 races at Palm Beach, Flagler, Naples Ft Myers, and Mardi Gras race tracks. She got up to B level but mainly ran at the lower levels. She is a very tiny red girl and her records say she raced at 58lbs but she looks too tiny to be that weight. Her sire is Aerial Battle and her dam is Elaborate Eva. Chili just turned 3 on October 14th. She did not pass her cat test so needs a home without cats. She has done fine with a small Italian Greyhound she met but had some mixed results with other small dogs so needs a careful introduction and the opportunity to sniff them so she doesn't mistake them for squirrels or bunnies. Chili is a very friendly cute girl. We were told she is very quiet in her crate and very calm. She was picked out especially for someone that lived in an apartment and needed a quiet dog.

Princess arrived from a kennel closing at the Orlando Race Track in June. She also raced at Orange Park in Jacksonville FL. Princess raced 29 races and only won two of those, so she retired pretty quickly. She is a 60lb brindle female that will turn 3 on December 10th. Her sire is Dragon Fire and her dam is Super C Ashley. Princess is a happy, friendly girl that loves everyone she meets. She is too interested in cats to be able to live with them. She did fine meeting an Italian Greyhound and Cocker Spaniel, and other non-greyhounds.  She gets along very well with other greyhounds. Princess is very loving and affectionate.  She loves having her ears and neck rubbed. She crates good and has done well with housetraining.  She is nice to walk and would be a great walking, hiking, or jogging companion.  She is a dog that does need some activity each day.  She loves to go places so she is a great dog to take to the park or to hit the trails with.  She is also very food motivated and smart so she would be very easy to train.  She has been introduced to clicker training. She is fully vetted and ready to go home.

Christy came in from the Birmingham Race Track. She raced 50 races there but it took her 18 before she won one race. She eventually won one more race but mainly just placed. She just turned 3 on July 7th. Her sire is the famous Djays Octane and her dam is WWW Mia Hamm. Christy did not pass her cat test. She was very interested at first but did eventually decide to leave the cat alone after he smacked her a few times but we think that she would do best in a home with no cats. She did fine with the small white dog she met though and showed no interest in him at all other than a casual sniff or two. Christy is a happy greyhound and her tail wags most of the time. She loves everyone she meets and seems comfortable in every situation. She jumped in the van and laid down for the trip. Nothing seems to phase her. Christy would be an excellent meet and greet dog because she is so social, she thrives on attention and is so loving. She has a little more energy than the typical greyhound so doesn't just lay around all the time. She does still lay around a good share of the time but still is up for a walk or anything else fun her family may do. Christy's foster mom has been working on her leash skills because she does pull at first and she is much better. Christy has the most wonderful, outgoing personality. She has been in foster care for awhile so already is home acclimated and doing great on house manners. Christy is a gorgeous girl that is always happy and so so sweet.

KC is a 77lb, red male that came in from the CTW Kennel Closing at the Birmingham Race Track. He came to us with his entire litter that all have CTW Montana as their first two names . KC turned 3 on August 22nd. He was raised at the CTW Farm in Texas. His sire is KC and All and his dam is CTW Make It Work. KC raced 86 races and a lot of those were in the top A level. He actually stopped racing August 31st after pulling up in a B level race. Has been off since then. KC just walked past some cats at the vet's office and really was not interested in them during his cat test until one ran. Then he got excited by the movement, but calmed down quickly and responded to correction, so we think he may be trainable with cats. He met a small white dog and was fine with him. KC is a happy, outgoing guy that has a fun personality. So far KC has been quiet in his crate. Be sure to check out his other pictures to see cute ones of him as a pup. KC was around small children at the farm he was raised on so should be fine with them.

All his littermates share his first two names CTW Montana and they all were raised in Texas. Bandit is a 73lb, mostly white male with a fawn patch on the side of his neck and another small patch on his tail. He turned 3 on August 22nd. His sire is KC and All and his dam is CTW Make It Work. He raced 83 races and was racing at the top A level when the kennel closed so was a good racer. He is very outgoing and happy. He seemed to understand that the cat he met had claws and stayed away from it. He was interested in chasing when it ran away but as soon as it turned around he backed away and stayed away. So he may be trainable with a cat that would stand its ground with supervision. Bandit was fine with a small white dog he met. He can be vocal in his kennel so would not be a good choice for apartment living. Free Bee just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park in Jacksonville Florida. She is a pretty tall girl for just 60lbs. She raced 142 races and was pretty good, racing at Dubuque and Bluffs Run in IA and Southland in Arkansas and Naples Ft Myers in Florida before moving to Orange Park. She was mostly a B level racer but did compete in a top level stakes race. Although she turned 4 on April 9th, Free Bee still has a cute puppy look to her. She is VERY outgoing and gives hugs and just loves people. She loves playing with other dogs and especially loves balls that squeak and toys that squeak. She can be energetic for short spurts but calms down really well in the house and just wants to put her head in your lap and be close. Free Bee's sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and her dam is Boc's Mc Raisen. She has been in a foster home with a calm older yorkie and has been fine with him. She loves playing with all the other greyhounds at a playgroup. We were told that she is a pretty confident girl and can be a little bossy at times. She seems like she is going to be a fun girl for a family that wants a playful, silly, girl. She does potty well on leash and is leash walked at her foster home but she would probably do best with a fenced yard where she can chase balls and run and play since she enjoys that so much. Although she has been living with cats at her foster home they are having to keep her away from them because she is too interested in the to be comfortable with so she needs a home with no cats. Her foster home says she is the most loving dog they have had, even more loving than their personal greyhound. She is super sweet!

Finn is a gorgeous white boy with red spots with cute ears that stand straight up when he is watching something. Even though all his spots on his body are red he has a black spot on his tail which is very unusual and very cool. Finn travels pretty well but does like to stand and watch where he is going. He potties nicely on leash so may be fine without a fenced yard. Finn is a really nice, friendly, boy that is happy happy happy. He happily goes up to everyone he meets for attention. His trainer at the race track said he could be bossy with other males while playing. After he retired, he was turned out in a group of males at the farm and had no problems whatsoever. Since he tended to be bossy as a younger guy, he may do best in a home with females or other more submissive males. He needs a home with no kitties because he really wanted to chase the cat he met. He is very calm and well behaved around the small dog he is fostered with, so should be fine to live with them. Finn is very quiet and clean in his crate. He really liked the small children he met but got overly excited to see them so because of his size and strength we think he may do better in a home without toddlers. He would love a home with older kids he could play with. He played with kids ages 5 to 10 that came to the farm with one of the workers. Finn is the unusual greyhound that is a great swimmer and loved to swim in the lake at his first foster home. He has a lot of personality and has a lot of love to give.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Herman family of Anderson SC 10/17/17

Cee Cee came to us initially from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She is a 63lb black female that just turned 5 on May 17th. She raced 168 races and was pretty good, winning at the top A level. We placed her littermate, a male named Sharp Edge, too. Her sire is Kiowa WW Brother and her dam is Kiowa Sharp Cay. Her trainer said she was still a good racer when she retired and was very fast. She just slowed down in the turns to avoid the other dogs after getting bumped a few times. Cee Cee passed her cat and small dog tests easily without much interest in either and is living with small dogs in her foster home. She is a good girl that seems like she wants to please and gets along very well with other dogs. She went straight back to her new crate and kenneled up without being told after her very first turn out. Cee Cee is a pretty calm girl but was a bit of a houdini at the vet's office. She got out of the dog run there by opening the latches several times. A very smart girl! Cee Cee is a grinner too! Cee Cee was adopted 5/22/16 and was in a home until they dumped her at the Pickens Animal Shelter on September 23rd. She was covered in fleas and ticks and was missing a lot of fur from scratching at them. Her nails were so long it affected her stride. Cee Cee has been checked over by our vet and had a fresh dental and all her vaccines. She looks much better after nearly a month of TLC.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Birdsey Family of Arden NC 10/15/17

Loma just arrived from the CTW Kennel closing in Birmingham Alabama. She came in with the rest of her litter that all have the CTW Montana names as well. They were raised in a farm in Texas. She is a 60lb almost entirely white female with just some speckles on her ears. Her sire is KC and All and her dam is CTW Make It Work. Loma was a good racer that raced mostly at the top A level and won a lot of races. She was still at the top level when her kennel closed. In fact, she had just won 5 races in a row at the top A level not long before she retired so she was very very good. Loma was a little overwhelmed at first and timid when she first arrived. She warmed up right away and is following her foster mom after the first day though. She passed her cat test and seemed afraid of the cat but eventually carefully gave it a few nervous sniffs. Loma seems like a sweet, sensitive girl. Be sure to look at her other pictures to see cute ones of her as a puppy. Loma was raised around small kids on the farm she grew up on so should be fine with children.

Diesel came in from the Palm Beach Race Track. He is a 75lb brindle boy with flashy white stockings and chest and a small blaze on his nose. He raced 34 races mostly at Palm Beach but also raced a few at Derby Lane. He wasn't a great racer so was retired pretty young. He turned 3 on May 11th. Diesel's sire is the famous Djays Octane and his dam is Deanos Liz. Diesel is a friendly boy that is very sweet. Be sure to check his other pictures to see a cute one of him as a puppy. Diesel passed his small dog test so should be fine to live in a home with them. He also has liked the kids he has met so seems like he would do fine in a home with them. Diesel is a friendly, loving guy that has been a velcro boy with his foster family. He loves to be with them. He crates well too. Diesel was a little nervous in a loud crowd at a busy farmers market. He is playful and loves to run around and play in his backyard.

Good w/ Children:

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Gray Family of Raleigh NC 10/13/17

Lark just arrived from the CTW Kennel Closing at the Birmingham Race Track. She came in with her littermates that all have the same first two names CTW Montana. The litter was raised on the CTW farm in Texas. Their sire is KC And All and their dam is CTW Make It Work. Lark is a small 56lb white female that seems to be very high energy like her mother. She is very outgoing and happy and is a natural sitter which is unusual for a greyhound. Most greyhounds find the sit position uncomfortable. Lark turned 3 on August 22nd. She did not pass her cat test but did seem OK with a small dog she met. She is was a good racer that mostly raced at A level. Be sure to check out her other pictures to see one of her as a puppy. Lark can be vocal in her kennel so probably would not be a good choice for apartment living. She is very devoted to people and would rather stay close to the people than going out to play in the yard with the other dogs. Lark was around small kids at the farm she was raised on so should be fine with them.

DKC Bob
Racing Name:
DKC Bob
Pet/Kennel Name:
Bob/Darby
Age:
4
Color/Gender:
White Male with a Red Spot
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
No
Fostered by (location):
Mcmanis Easley SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Galvin Family of Savannah GA 10/7/17

Bob initially came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He a gorgeous all white boy except for a red spot over one eye that looks a bit like an eyebrow and a little color on his ears. He is a mid sized guy that raced at 69lbs and only ran 30 races. He started out racing at Tri State in WV but didn't do well there so was moved to the Orlando Track. He only won 2 races during his career so was retired young. Bob will turn 4 on September 18th. His sire is Handball Victory and his dam is Snap A Heel. Bob is a happy boy that can be bouncy and silly in short spurts. He passed his cat and small dog tests and lived with several cats in his previous home. Bob was adopted in June of 2016 and was called Darby there. He was returned in September of 2017, because he started growling and being protective of his space and toys. Bob has been very well behaved in his foster home since he was returned and they have not seen any growling or possessive behavior. Bob seems like he can be a little timid in new situations and isn't a really confident dog. He seems to do better with other dogs around him. He has good house manners and is home acclimated. Because he has shown possessiveness over toys in the past, Bob needs a home with no children. We would prefer to place Bob in a dog experienced home. Bob has been a very well behaved guy in foster care with other dogs around that he can follow around and he seems to copy their behaviors. He doesn't seem to do well as an only dog. He is being fostered with cats and larger dogs and is great with both.

Doby in Salisbury, NC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Skorepa Family of Summerville SC 10/7/17

Kern just arrived from a dog farm in Florida. She actually retired from racing in July of 2016 after a successful career of 151 races. She raced at Palm Beach, Flagler, Mardi Gras, and Naples Ft Myers. She did get up to the top A level for part of her career. After she retired she went back to the farm to wait on an adoption group to take her and has been there for a year. She got her front leg stuck under a fence recently and suffered a terrible break, photos of her X-ray are in her other photos. Pro Greyhound is an organization funded by your donations that takes in greyhounds with injuries, gets them the surgeries they need and rehabs them. Pro Greyhound took her in, had one of their vets in Florida reconstruct Kern's leg and then drove from NC to Florida to get her after surgery. Her surgery cost $2000. If you would like to make a donation to help pay for her surgery and rehab please go to Pro Greyhound's Page. She is in NC now for her long recovery and probably won't be released for adoption until the end of August. Kern's sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Atascocita Bonny. Kern raced at 57lbs and will turn 5 on August 17th. More as we get to know her.
