Hold onto Hope Merchandise
We have lost many greyhounds adopted through our group to bone cancer and many of our members have had other dogs of different breeds diagnosed with cancer. We have created a t-shirt to honor those wonderful pets that are no longer with us while also helping those that will fight cancer in the future. The proceeds above our cost of each item will go to a national campaign called CureCanineCancer.org. This campaign was started by the Morris Animal Foundation and is intended to raise the global awareness of the impact cancer research not only has for our dogs but also for humans.
About CureCanineCancer.org
CureCanineCancer.org is the unprecedented global campaign undertaken to cure canine cancer in the next 10-20 years. One in four dogs die of cancer, with many breeds being especially at risk. For example, 60 percent of Golden Retrievers die of cancer. While seeking cures and prevention via research on genetic, environmental, nutritional, and other factors,Morris Animal Foundation funding will directly benefit new treatments for dogs suffering from cancer today. MAF currently contributes to theGreyhound Health and Wellness program at Ohio State University where many clinical trials are conducted to help retired racing greyhounds with cancer. Over the next five years, MAF is seeking to raise $30 million for the research effort. If just 1 percent of 44 million dog owning households in the U.S. would donate $50 once, that would raise $22 million for this research.
About the Morris Animal Foundation
Morris Animal Foundation (MAF) answers a critical and unique need in promoting and protecting animal health and welfare and advancing veterinary medicine. MAF is the world’s largest nonprofit foundation 501(c)(3) dedicated to funding research studies to protect, treat and cure animals, including companion animals (dogs, cats, horses, llamas/alpacas), as well as wildlife (mountain gorillas, elephants, rhinoceros, wolves, and many varieties of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish). In 2007, 49 of the world’s most respected research institutions, colleges of veterinary medicine, and zoos are conducting 100 MAF-sponsored studies. Since our founding in 1948, we have funded almost 1,300 studies with funds approaching $50 million — with 100 percent of all donations going to fund animal health. MAF has an extraordinary reputation among veterinarians. Indeed, virtually every practicing veterinarian in the world has used the diagnostic tools, preventions, and treatments emanating from MAF-funded research. Today, MAF is spearheading an unprecedented series of global initiatives to grow our resources and reach. This expansion will allow us to serve an even larger role in meeting the health needs of the animals we love.
