Adoption Status: Adopted by the Herman family of Anderson SC 10/17/17

Cee Cee came to us initially from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She is a 63lb black female that just turned 5 on May 17th. She raced 168 races and was pretty good, winning at the top A level. We placed her littermate, a male named Sharp Edge, too. Her sire is Kiowa WW Brother and her dam is Kiowa Sharp Cay. Her trainer said she was still a good racer when she retired and was very fast. She just slowed down in the turns to avoid the other dogs after getting bumped a few times. Cee Cee passed her cat and small dog tests easily without much interest in either and is living with small dogs in her foster home. She is a good girl that seems like she wants to please and gets along very well with other dogs. She went straight back to her new crate and kenneled up without being told after her very first turn out. Cee Cee is a pretty calm girl but was a bit of a houdini at the vet's office. She got out of the dog run there by opening the latches several times. A very smart girl! Cee Cee is a grinner too! Cee Cee was adopted 5/22/16 and was in a home until they dumped her at the Pickens Animal Shelter on September 23rd. She was covered in fleas and ticks and was missing a lot of fur from scratching at them. Her nails were so long it affected her stride. Cee Cee has been checked over by our vet and had a fresh dental and all her vaccines. She looks much better after nearly a month of TLC.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Birdsey Family of Arden NC 10/15/17

Loma just arrived from the CTW Kennel closing in Birmingham Alabama. She came in with the rest of her litter that all have the CTW Montana names as well. They were raised in a farm in Texas. She is a 60lb almost entirely white female with just some speckles on her ears. Her sire is KC and All and her dam is CTW Make It Work. Loma was a good racer that raced mostly at the top A level and won a lot of races. She was still at the top level when her kennel closed. In fact, she had just won 5 races in a row at the top A level not long before she retired so she was very very good. Loma was a little overwhelmed at first and timid when she first arrived. She warmed up right away and is following her foster mom after the first day though. She passed her cat test and seemed afraid of the cat but eventually carefully gave it a few nervous sniffs. Loma seems like a sweet, sensitive girl. Be sure to look at her other pictures to see cute ones of her as a puppy. Loma was raised around small kids on the farm she grew up on so should be fine with children.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Norman family of Greer SC 10/14/17

Diesel came in from the Palm Beach Race Track. He is a 75lb brindle boy with flashy white stockings and chest and a small blaze on his nose. He raced 34 races mostly at Palm Beach but also raced a few at Derby Lane. He wasn't a great racer so was retired pretty young. He turned 3 on May 11th. Diesel's sire is the famous Djays Octane and his dam is Deanos Liz. Diesel is a friendly boy that is very sweet. Be sure to check his other pictures to see a cute one of him as a puppy. Diesel passed his small dog test so should be fine to live in a home with them. He also has liked the kids he has met so seems like he would do fine in a home with them. Diesel is a friendly, loving guy that has been a velcro boy with his foster family. He loves to be with them. He crates well too. Diesel was a little nervous in a loud crowd at a busy farmers market. He is playful and loves to run around and play in his backyard.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Gray Family of Raleigh NC 10/13/17

Lark just arrived from the CTW Kennel Closing at the Birmingham Race Track. She came in with her littermates that all have the same first two names CTW Montana. The litter was raised on the CTW farm in Texas. Their sire is KC And All and their dam is CTW Make It Work. Lark is a small 56lb white female that seems to be very high energy like her mother. She is very outgoing and happy and is a natural sitter which is unusual for a greyhound. Most greyhounds find the sit position uncomfortable. Lark turned 3 on August 22nd. She did not pass her cat test but did seem OK with a small dog she met. She is was a good racer that mostly raced at A level. Be sure to check out her other pictures to see one of her as a puppy. Lark can be vocal in her kennel so probably would not be a good choice for apartment living. She is very devoted to people and would rather stay close to the people than going out to play in the yard with the other dogs. Lark was around small kids at the farm she was raised on so should be fine with them.

Atascocita Cord

Atascocita Cord
Pet/Kennel Name:
Cord
Age:
4
Color/Gender:
Black Male
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Frymire in Greenville, SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Misuraca Family of Hendersonville NC 10/11/17

Cord came to us from a Florida farm where he has been living since he retired from racing in March of 2016. He has been waiting over a year and a half for a group to take him. He only raced 36 races in Palm Beach and only actually won 2 of those. Cord turned 4 on June 20th. His sire is the famous Craigie Whistler and his dam is Atascocita Miama, He was owned by Atascocita Racing which is why that is the first part of his name. Cord has a very old break to his back right leg that is long healed and shouldn't cause him any problems as a pet. He can run and play normally but does have a slight barely noticeable limp. Cord travels well and just got in the van and laid down on the trip up. He potties on leash nicely so may do fine without a fenced yard if someone was willing to leash walk him. He is very quiet so may be good for a townhouse or apartment. He seems like a very calm well behaved guy that is calmly friendly. Cord liked the children he met and was fine even with a cat running past him. Cord seems to be exceptionally low prey drive and had no interest in chinchillas he lived with. He did great at a doggy daycare with even the smaller dogs. Cord is very laid back and is perfectly happy laying on his bed watching things going on around him and doesn't need to be the center of attention. After Cord gets comfortable with his family he is playful He does seem like he would do best in a home with other dogs. He is fine for a few hours completely alone, but seems like he gets stressed when there are no other dogs around him and he is left for an 8 hour work day.

Age:

Color/Gender:
White with Black Spots Male
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
Yes
Fostered by (location):
Jenkins, Atlanta GA
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Corder family of Hickory NC 9/817

Shock just arrived from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He only had one official race there though and raced at Derby Lane in FL, Southland in Arkansas, and Bluffs Run in IA before that. He was actually pretty good getting up to B level at the top Race Track, Southland, briefly. Then for some reason he just dropped to the lowest D level even after being moved down to slower less competitive tracks. It looks like he would just give in to the other dogs if they wanted to take the lead. Although he traveled a good bit from track to track he seemed to be pretty stressed by the trip up from Florida. He rides well though and just got in and laid down for another 3 hour trip to Atlanta and didn't seem stressed at all then. He seems like a sensitive guy that is calm and well behaved. He is very quiet in his crate. His trainer says he always kept his crate clean and was a very good with the other dogs, just a very nice guy. Shock passed his cat and small dog tests easily without much interest in either and doesn't even seem interested in chasing birds and squirrels in the yard. His sire is KC And All and his dam is Competing Forces. Shock has settled into foster care quickly and never tried to mark in the house once. He went out to a very busy fair and was totally fine with all the people and noise around him and heeled politely the entire time. He liked the people and kids that came up to him to pet him. His foster mom thinks he would be an excellent therapy dog or service dog candidate because of his calm easy going nature and because he seemed so comfortable in a loud busy environment.

Color/Gender:
White Male with a Red Spot
Cat Tolerance:
Yes
Small Dog Tolerance:
Yes
Good w/ Children:
No
Fostered by (location):
Mcmanis Easley SC
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Galvin Family 10/7/17

Bob initially came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He a gorgeous all white boy except for a red spot over one eye that looks a bit like an eyebrow and a little color on his ears. He is a mid sized guy that raced at 69lbs only ran 30 races. He started out racing at Tri State in WV but didn't do well there so was moved to the Orlando Track. He only won 2 races during his career so was retired young. Bob will turn 4 on September 18th. His sire is Handball Victory and his dam is Snap A Heel. Bob is a happy boy that can be bouncy and silly in short spurts. He passed his cat and small dog tests and lived with several cats in his previous home. Bob was in an adoptive home since June of 2016 and has also been called Darby so seems to respond to both names. He was returned because he growled over his space and toys. His foster mom hasn't seen any of that behavior. Since he has arrived, Bob seems like he can be a little timid in new situations and isn't a really confident dog. He seems to do better with other dogs around him. He is a great guy with good house manners and is home acclimated. Because he has shown possessiveness over toys, Bob needs a home with no small children. Bob has been a very well behaved guy in foster care and we think he just needs other dogs to show him the ropes rather than being an only dog. He is being fostered with cats and larger dogs and is great with both.

Kern just arrived from a dog farm in Florida. She actually retired from racing in July of 2016 after a successful career of 151 races. She raced at Palm Beach, Flagler, Mardi Gras, and Naples Ft Myers. She did get up to the top A level for part of her career. After she retired she went back to the farm to wait on an adoption group to take her and has been there for a year. She got her front leg stuck under a fence recently and suffered a terrible break, photos of her X-ray are in her other photos. Pro Greyhound is an organization funded by your donations that takes in greyhounds with injuries, gets them the surgeries they need and rehabs them. Pro Greyhound took her in, had one of their vets in Florida reconstruct Kern's leg and then drove from NC to Florida to get her after surgery. Her surgery cost $2000. If you would like to make a donation to help pay for her surgery and rehab please go to Pro Greyhound's Page. She is in NC now for her long recovery and probably won't be released for adoption until the end of August. Kern's sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Atascocita Bonny. Kern raced at 57lbs and will turn 5 on August 17th. More as we get to know her.

Her DOB is 8/11/15 and her sire is Go Bon Hawk Talk and her dam is Rido's Honeybear. She came in with her littermate Rido's Steve. Adoption Status: Adopted by the Burke Family Mooresboro NC 9/16/17

Holly initially came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She only had 5 schooling races that we could find. She just didn't show any promise as a racer so was retired before she turned 2 without having one official race. Holly turned 3 on May 21st and has been in an adoptive home for over a year. Although she doesn't try to chase cats, after a year she has gotten tired of the six cats in her home walking on her and around her and started growling at them to make them stay away from her. So she is looking for another home with maybe just one cat that doesn't bother dogs or no cats. She is very good with small dogs, in fact, when she went to doggy day care she was in with the small dogs rather than the larger dogs. Her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and her dam is Fuzzys Francie. Holly is a tiny girl racing at just 56lbs. She is a very outgoing girl that is very waggy and very happy all the time. She can be a bit noisy in her kennel so probably wouldn't be the best choice for apartment living. Holly was great with the small kids she was around in her previous foster home but has not been living with kids.

Go Go is very waggy for a greyhound, so much so, that she sometimes wags along with her tail. Go Go passed her cat test without much interest in the cat. She didn't pay much attention to the small dog she met either. Go Go is a super sweet, happy go lucky girl. She loves to snuggle with her humans. Chris started out racing at Melbourne and went straight to the top A level so was moved to Ebro. She didn't do as well racing there so she was moved to Birmingham in September of 2014. She raced nearly all of her races in Birmingham and stayed at the top A level most of her career. Her last race on May 13th was an A level race, in fact. She broke her leg in that last race though. She had her leg fixed at the Birmingham track and then was sent to Pro Greyhound to complete her rehab. Pro Greyhound is a 501C3 organization that takes care of injured greyhounds with the help of your donations. Once she is released by the Pro Greyhound vets she will be available for adoption through our group. Chris's leg is healing well and she is no longer wearing a splint.  Chris's sire is KC and All and her dam is PG Breaking News. She will turn 5 on September 23rd. Chris can be just a little timid at first in new situations but loves people and attention. She is quiet in her crate and is very sweet. She was a little interested in small dogs at first but has been fine since she realized what they were. She is a natural sitter unlike most greyhounds.

He raced just 41 races and started out racing in Palm beach, and was good, quickly getting up to the top A level. He was moved to Naples Ft Myers and was also an A level racer there. From there he went to Flagler. After only racing there a short time he stumbled and hurt himself so was retired. He is completely healed long ago from that old injury. Cos is a 71lb red male that turned 4 on May 11th. His sire is Flying Westover and his dam is Atascocita Dulce. He was owned by Atascocita Racing which is why that is part of his name. Cos is very laid back and friendly. He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home and is quickly mastering the stairs. He seems like a very sweet happy guy. Cos passed his cat test with just a little initial interest but after the cat slapped him he lost that and was fine so we think he would be trainable with some supervision at first. He did fine with a small fluffy dog that he met too.

Manning just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Kennel. He didn't actually ever race there though. He raced 35 races at Southland in Arkansas and at Flagler, Naples Ft. Myers and Palm Beach tracks in Florida. He only ever was able to win one race so was retired young. He is a big, tall, guy that raced at 83lbs. His sire is the very famous Kiowa Mon Manny and his dam is KL's Muriel. He won't turn 3 until November 20th. Manning is a friendly guy that is really sweet. He was quiet in his crate after just a couple of reminders the first day but once in awhile he does get excited and makes a little noise - mainly when guests come over and he is in his crate. He walks great on a loose leash. He is a higher prey drive guy that isn't going to be able to live with cats. He is OK with small dogs indoors but gets too excited about them outside when they run around so probably would do best in a home with medium sized dogs or larger. He is being fostered with an 15lb Italian Greyhound, to help him get used to being around small dogs and he is doing great with him now. Manning is doing great in his foster home and would be a very easy first or 4th greyhound. He seems to get along well with other dogs and seems pretty calm for his age. Manning is a gentle giant.

Loader is a special needs guy that we are advertising for a track adoption group in Iowa. He is a dominant guy that doesn't get along well with other dogs, so just needs to be placed as an only dog. Loader is very friendly and loving and is described as being "amazing with people". He is currently still in Iowa and transport from the track adoption kennel can be arranged for a suitable adopter. Loader is a handsome, confident, red male that weighs 76lbs. He turned 4 on April 14th. His sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Kiowa Neon Nanny. Loader is a velcro dog that loves to be by the side of people working in the kennel. He was a pretty good racer that raced 132 races at several tracks and won a lot of races. He started out at Bluffs Run in IA, then went to Naples Ft Myers in FL, then to Dubuque IA. From Dubuque he went back to Florida to the Mardi Gras Race Track but he didn't race well there so he was sent back to Dubuque again. So this guy has been quite the traveler. Loader did get up to the top A level while racing in Dubuque the first time. He retired on May 26th and has been at the track adoption kennel since then waiting on the right home. Loader didn't pass his cat test either so needs a home with no kitties. If you are only planning on having just one dog, please consider adopting Loader. He has been fully vetted, is healthy and has been waiting on a home for along time. Great news! Loader found a home and is coming to Inman to a previous greyhound owner. Transport has already been arranged and he will arrive on September 8th.

He liked the baby and toddler he met, but because he is so big and enthusiastic when greeting them we think he would do better in a home with kids older than toddler age that he wouldn't accidentally knock down. Delahoya is very friendly and loves people

Hero came in to our group as a result of the Mobile Alabama track being shut down. He raced 32 races and also raced briefly at Ebro. He wasn't a very good racer and only won 2 races in his career. Hero has a meaningful name that was chosen by one of our local volunteers and adopters that is a doctor that had open heart surgery as a child and now works with children because of that. That is why we ended up getting him to place. Hero is a gorgeous white boy with black spots that raced at 76lbs. His sire is Destini Fireball and his dam is KB's Mercedistar. He is young and won't turn 3 until November 9th. According to his trainer Hero is very shy at first and will need some time to warm up to new people. His foster home says that he is jumpy and will shy away if approached directly, but has been curious enough to check out things and approach her. He is a very shy boy though that is probably going to want to be a home body and will prefer staying home with his family and in familiar areas. Once he warms up we are told that he will be a velcro dog and want to stay close. Nothing bad has ever happened to Hero, he is just a genetically shy guy that is timid and sensitive and will need time to warm up to his new family.

Trey originally came in from the Goodman Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He is a small 68lb brindle male that will turn 5 on August 26th. He also raced briefly at Derby Lane early in his career. He was a top level racer in Orlando competing and winning at the top A level against the best dogs at that track. Trey's trainers were very attached to him and planned to keep him as a personal pet after he retired. They rescued a small dog from a bad situation, so weren't able to keep another dog when Trey finally retired though.  When he first arrived at their race track kennel he was very shy and overwhelmed. They worked him through that and helped him build his confidence in the year and a half he raced with them. His trainers said he was the absolute sweetest boy once he warmed up. He was really upset when the hauler came to take him out of the kennel to bring him to us and he had a moment of panic. He was better by the time he reached us and didn't tuck his tail or really seem shy at all. He seemed to be adjusting to home life remarkably well in foster care and didn't seem like a really shy dog at all. He was in an adoptive home since November, but progressively got more and more fearful with the family and even developed a fear of the yard. Trey spent a lot of his time in the bedroom away from everyone so eventually they decided that he would do better with another family. Trey is not shy with other dogs large and small and has lived with both. We would prefer not to put him in a home with children since they can be loud and scary. We think he probably needs a quiet home that will let him initiate contact when he is ready. Trey's sire is Odd Ulysses and his dam is Topaz Sallyhally.

She is owned by Atascocita Racing which is how she got her first name. She is a friendly happy little girl that is already one of her foster mom's favorite fosters ever. Her foster mom says Corda is a sweet, sensitive girl.

Her sire is Flying Coal City and her dam is Chasmo's Ginger. Kylee Jo passed her cat and small dog tests without much interest in either. She was also OK with a toddler and baby she met. Kylee Jo is a sweet girl that seems friendly and loves her ears rubbed and will chatter her teeth in happiness. She is doing good in her foster home and her biggest challenge seems to be learning to walking on hardwood floors. This is a happy, waggie girl that has the biggest, prettiest eyes.

Fostered by (location):
Bowden (Greenville, SC)
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Fisher Family of North Myrtle Beach SC 8/31/17

Scotty initially was adopted from the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Kennel 5 months ago. He had a long career of 214 races starting out in Birmingham, then moving to Wheeling WV and then back to Birmingham. He was the most successful racing in Birmingham, and raced a lot of his career there at the top A level. After he was adopted his family moved to Charlotte NC. Scotty was very friendly and confident in the kennel environment where he was comfortable with other greyhounds around. When he got home with his new family and was away from other greyhounds, he was terrified. He would stress almost constantly and never warmed up to them or their home unless a friend's greyhound came over. When another greyhound was around he was happy and acted normal. They hoped he would adjust and get better with time, but finally made the difficult decision to re-home Scotty so he could be in a home with another greyhound. Since Scotty has been in a foster home with other greyhounds his behavior is completely normal. He doesn't freak out about things and is a very calm, friendly guy with a waggy tail and happy disposition. Scotty seems like he is a sensitive guy that thrives on routine. He walks good on leash. He has lived with cats and seems fine with the small dogs he has met. He would be fine with visiting children, but we think living with fast moving and loud little kids is likely to make him nervous. He is a very sweet guy that just needs a home with other greyhounds where he can be comfortable. Scotty will turn 6 on September 14th. His sire is CTW Plaza Rio and his dam is Great Lee. Scotty is such a friendly, outgoing, happy, silly, guy when he is around other greyhounds. It is hard to imagine him as the shy, timid, fearful guy that his former family described.

Fuse is a tiny 53lb girl that came in from the Waverider Kennel at the Daytona Beach Race Track. She raced 80 races there, won 8 of those and placed in more. Fuse fell in her last race and didn't finish the race. An X-ray found a tiny bone chip in her left hock. The vet felt that it would heal quickly on its own. She is doing fine and it doesn't seem to bother her much now except for a very slight limp sometimes. Fuse is a cute, tiny, red female that raced at 53lbs. She turned 3 on May 9th. Her sire is WW's Dog Gone and her dam is WW Electric Eye. She passed her cat and small dog tests easily and has been living with small dogs that she likes very much. Fuse is used to being around children because her trainer has several kids that help in the kennel with the dogs ages 5 - 12. She is a sweet, calm girl that seems little unsure of her new surroundings at first and just wants to be near her family. Fuse had been in an adoptive home since March but they had to make the difficult decision to re-home her due to their busy work schedule and traveling required for work. They feel that Fuse would do better with a family that had more time to spend with her and other dogs that she can play with. If you are looking for a tiny, sweet girl that is great with cats, small dog and kids Fuse is your girl.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Taylor family of Aiken SC 8/20/17

Gordo is a small black male that weighs 66lbs. He is coming in from the Birmingham Race Course. He never had one official race and has been waiting to be moved to an adoption group for awhile. His sire is KC and All and his dam is Tiger Will Win. He is two years old and won't turn 3 until October 19th. Gordo is described as having a very laid back personality. He can be just a little timid at first with people he doesn't know but his foster family says that he was silly and friendly within the very first day. Gordo passed his cat and small dog tests at the race track easily so should be fine to live with either. He is living with cats in his foster home and did show some interest in them at first but seems very trainable with them. He gets along well with a border collie and another greyhound in his foster home. He loves the other dogs and loves people and affection. He potties well on leash so may be fine without a fenced yard. He did complain some about being in his kennel the first couple of days so may not be a good choice for an apartment. Gordo has no trouble with stairs or hardwood floors. He seems like a quick learner and has been perfect with his potty training. He loves his naps and is pretty calm for a young guy. He has very short spurts of playful energy and loves rope toys. Gordo likes to go for rides in the car and just lays down. Gordo has been fine with the children he has met. His foster home thinks he is pretty perfect and would do well as a first greyhound or 4th.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Kane Family of Chapin SC 8/18/17

Frodo came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He raced his entire career of 53 races there. He was pretty good getting up to A level. He is a large black male that raced at 80lbs. He has been retired since he pulled up in his last race March 9th 2017. He just pulled a muscle and is fine now. His sire is Flying Coal City and his dam is Kentucky Merlot. We have placed a full brother from another litter and quite a few half siblings on mom and dad's side. All are wonderful pets, so we were excited to meet Frodo. He turned 3 on March 17th so is a St Patrick's Day boy. His trainer said he is a good jumper and is the rare big boy that is a top crate dog at the track because he can jump. He jumped right into our van for the the trip. She also said he can be a big baby and is dramatic. He thinks the world is coming to an end if he has to have his nails trimmed. Frodo passed his small dog and cat test very easily. He is a very friendly, guy that is waggy and happy and follows his foster mom around. He doesn't seemed stressed by much and was laying on a dog bed on his back with his feet in the air on his first day in his foster home. On the trip up he put his head on our laps and just stood there for a couple of hours, not moving and snuggling in. Very sweet boy. He was around kids on the farm where he grew up and really seemed drawn to kids, so was chosen to be in a home with 3 toddlers under 5 years old. He was in that home a couple of months, but was just returned because he would steal the kid's toys and get protective of them and he didn't really like to be bothered when he was laying down. So now Frodo is looking for another home without small kids. Frodo has a very beautiful, shiny, black coat. He is doing great in foster care and is very quiet in his kennel so may be a good choice for apartment or townhouse dwellers.

Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Burke Family Mooresboro NC 8/17/17

Gus is an XL boy that came in from the Sanford Orlando Race track. He only raced a total of 26 races. He started off running at Palm Beach and raced 5 races there and even won one of them, before falling in his 6th race. He barely ran in his next race and finished so far back he wasn't even in the picture. He was pulled out of racing for nearly 2 months. When he raced again, he finished so far back again that he wasn't even in the picture. So he was off for 3 more months. He finally started racing better for awhile and even won a couple of races. Then he started playing with other dogs instead of racing which is strictly against the rules, so he was pulled out of racing for a couple more months and moved to another track to see if he would do better. It was finally determined that he just needed to retire. Gus turned 3 on June 7th. HIs sire is Gianni and his dam is Estonia. Gus is an extra large, tall narrow, red brindle boy that raced at 83lbs. He is a very, happy, playful guy that loves to go for walks. He is a confident guy that is curious about everything and loves attention. Gus was interested in the cat he was tested with at first and barked at it, but once the cat slapped him, he backed away and didn't want to get close to him again. He may be trainable with a confident cat that will stand his ground. He is being fostered with a small dog and is fine with him. He really liked a toddler and other kids he was introduced to, but doesn't like to be bothered when laying down so we think he would be best in a home with no kids. Gus kennels great in a room with other dogs or people around but can complain loudly if no other dogs are with him so he would probably do best in a home with another dog buddy. He will probably need an extra tall 48" long crate. His back touches the top of the standard 48" long kennel.

Rayne is a small brindle female that raced at 57lbs. She just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course Adoption Kennel. She was a good racer, consistently competitive at the top A level. She raced 135 races and also raced for a short time at Wheeling and Southland tracks. Rayne's sire is CTW Silverstreak and her dam is CTW Unreal. She just turned 3 on May 18th. She is a happy girl that has a great personality. She is very curious about everything but quiet. Rayne loves cuddles, naps, walks, squeaker toys and she is a great hugger. She likes her kennel but is well behaved when out. She isn't destructive. She does have a pretty high prey drive and is not likely to be cat safe. She eventually passed her small dog test after she figured out what it was. At first she does mistake small dogs for squirrels though so she needs careful introductions and supervision. She may do better in a home with medium sized dogs or larger. Rayne is wonderful, lovely and silly according to her foster home. Rayne hasn't figured out jumping into vehicles yet and needs a boost, but once in the car she loves to go on rides. She has liked the kids she has met. She does great at meet and greets and out in public. She does like to get up on beds and couches.

Data initially came in from the Jacksonville Fl Orange Park race track. He is a handsome black male that broke his leg in his last race on December 16th, 2016. His break didn't require surgery. His racing owners paid to have the vet splint and care for the leg in Florida. Once the leg was stabilized he was transported to Pro Greyhound for his rehab. They are a group that pays for surgical repairs and rehab of greyhounds with broken legs with your donations. If you would like to donate to help Pro Greyhound please click here. Data raced at 72lbs and will turn 3 on September 21st. His sire is WW Time Warp and his dam is Quirky Lucille. Data is a very friendly guy that is very social and sweet. He passed his cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. Data was such a great dog that he was picked as a service dog candidate and was adopted by a lady wanting to train him to be her service dog. Unfortunately Data was so in tune with his owner, that he picked up on her anxiety and became anxious in the situations that made her anxious, so wasn't able to assist her. Data is a wonderful, well trained boy that should be a perfect pet even if he didn't work out as service dog. He is an easy going guy that isn't an anxious dog normally. He loves being with his humans and really connects with them. He likes to put his head in your lap to get ear rubs. He is very concerned about babies. He lived with two little boys and was very tolerant of the kids even if they crawled on his bed or bothered him when he was sleeping. If one of his babies cried he would not rest until he found them and made sure they were ok. He walks well on a leash and uses a dog door when he needs to go outside to potty. He loves meeting strangers and is friendly with many other breeds of dogs, even small ones. He has lived with cats and small dogs before.

Lady is a white female with red brindle spots that came in from the Birmingham Race Track where she raced most of her 85 races. She did also race at Wheeling in WV briefly. She was a fast dog that quickly got up to A level at first, but seemed to go up and down in racing levels a lot and then gradually slowed down. She does have one old toe injury that is healed but could have slowed her down just a bit. Lady turned 3 on Feb 7th and she raced at 64lbs. Her sire is CTW Ford Delux and her dam is CTW Powder Base. Lady is doing great in her foster home. She potties on leash really well but does still try to go check everything out because she is so inquisitive so needs some fine tuning on her heeling skills. She has done great with her foster home's one year old daughter so far and is very outgoing and friendly with everyone she meets. She gives kisses and smiles when she gets really happy or excited. She is a natural sitter that will just pop down into a sit unlike most greyhounds who prefer to stand or lay down normally. She does complain some about being in her crate so may not be quiet enough to be an apartment dog. Although she did not pass her initial cat and small dog test at the track it was just due to being excited to sniff them. She has been fine with them here. She just wants to sniff everything and has only just wanted to sniff them even outside and then loses interest. She is even good with an outdoor cat that comes up to her on walks. She has not had any accidents in her crate or in the house since she has been in foster care and follows her foster mom around. She is such a happy, beautiful girl!

Flash is a handsome white male with black spots, that just came in from the Orlando Race Track. He is pretty tall for 76lbs and just gorgeous! Flash was an amazing racer that raced 156 races. He started out racing in Dubuque and raced at the top A level there and competed in special Stakes races there reserved for the best racers at that track. He was so successful there that he was moved to the top track in the country, Southland in Arkansas. He raced well there at the top levels and competed in Stakes races there too. He finished up his career at Derby Lane and Sanford Orlando tracks in Florida. Flash is a true track star!  His sire is the famous Djays Octane and his dam is Pacific Flash. His trainer said he is a very calm boy that is well behaved in the kennel and keeps his crate clean. Flash turned 4 on January 16th. He passed his cat and small dog test with no interest in either of them so should be fine to live in a home with either. Flash seemed calmly friendly to a toddler he met. He is very good on leash. Flash is friendly and very calm like we were told. He didn't seem to be phased by shiny floors and was very quiet in his crate in his foster home. He did complain when he was in a home by himself with no other dogs around, so he may do better in a home with at least one other dog. This is a sweet boy that just wants love and just wants to lean against you.

Apollo was called 'Harry' at the race track but his first adopter changed his name. He initially came in from the Birmingham Race Track. Apollo was a very good racer that raced 238 races mostly all at the top A level. He was so good that he won 5 races in a row against the best racers at that track. He also raced at Southland in Arkansas which is one of the toughest tracks in the country. Apollo turned 7 on April 20th. He had just turned 5 when he retired and got adopted by his first owner. Apollo's sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and his dam is RLM's Ripley. This boy has personality plus. He is a happy, waggy boy that goes straight up to everyone he sees for love. He got along really well with other dogs at the track and was picked as a dog that would be likely to get along well with a young, active german shepherd in his first home. Apollo was returned to us the first time because his dad had to move in with a relative and wasn't able to keep him. Apollo raced at 71lbs but is a very tall boy. He has lived with cats and small dogs and is fine with them. Apollo is a snuggler that enjoys sleeping in bed with his foster mom and is a very sweet guy. Now Apollo is available again, this time he was dumped at a NC shelter because his adopter moved didn't want him anymore. Fortunately we were contacted by the shelter and Apollo is back with our group. Apollo is a wonderful, friendly, sweet boy that has just had really bad luck. When Apollo came back to us he had no tail. He was a very happy waggy boy to begin with so we think that he probably had to have it amputated due to a tail injury called happy tail that is common in greyhounds that wag a lot. Apollo travels well and likes to play with tennis balls. He loves to run and play with other dogs but only for a little while. He is very calm and settles well in the house. He doesn't like thunderstorms or fireworks. Be sure to check Harry's other photos to see pictures of him now and 2 years ago when he arrived. The newer photos are the ones where he is a little whiter in the face.

She raced at 63lbs so isn't actually "stocky" her entire litter was named big names like Chubby, Godzilla, and Sumo. Stockie's sire is Who Says I Can't and her dam is Imageofanangel. She turns 3 on August 17th. Stockie is very friendly and a grinner when she is happy or excited. She is a natural sitter, most greyhounds aren't comfortable in a sit and chose to stand or lay down rather than sit. Tommy is a gorgeous, black and white boy that raced at 74lbs. He just came in from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. He also raced at Mardi Gras in FL and at Dubuque and Bluffs Run in IA.  Tommy raced mostly at the mid levels but did compete in a couple of high level stakes races early on. His last race was in January of 2016, so when we got him he had been waiting in a racing kennel for a year for a group to take him. Tommy is a sweet, friendly, boy with an excellent personality and would have been adopted quickly if people had just had the chance to meet him. He walks nicely on leash and will potty on leash so doesn't need a fenced yard if his family is willing to leash walk him. Tommy did not pass his cat test at the track, so needs a home with no kitties. He did great with the small dogs he has met and is being fostered with two small dogs. He was placed in a home in February of 2017 but hasn't been comfortable with the small child in the home so was returned to us. Tommy is home acclimated and will bark to let you know when he needs to go outside. He is the rare greyhound that will bark to alert you that someone is at the door too. Tommy turned 5 on March 19th. His sire is RA Blazer and his dam is Jenna Bear.  Tommy is a happy, friendly boy that is doing great in his foster home.

London just arrived from the Orlando Race Track. He is a blue brindle male that raced at just 66lbs but is pretty tall and narrow for that weight. He only raced 14 races and won 2 of those. We just placed two of his littermates Oxford and Liverpool too. His sire is HL's Tod N Tyler and his dam is Keeper Spode. London is young and won't turn 2 until August 10th. He passed his cat and small dog tests easily with no interest in either of them. He seemed to like a toddler he met. He is good on leash and wants to lean against you when standing and even when walking some. London walked across shiny floors and up and down stairs with no problems at all the first time he tried. He is a calmly friendly guy that seems very well behaved for such a young guy. He does bark in his crate occasionally mainly if other dogs are going outside without him. This is a very nice boy.

Overpaid just arrived from the Orlando race track. She is a small brindle female that raced at 58lbs. She also raced at Orange Park and raced a total of 55 races. Overpaid got up to the top A level briefly but had an ankle sprain on Feb 2nd that ended her race career. Her ankle has completely healed up now with no limp or any sign it ever happened. Overpaid turned 3 on July 9th. She is a cute friendly girl with big eyes and ears that go straight up when she is curious about something. She is pretty curious about everything and very waggy. She is a grinner too. Overpaid initially showed some interest in the cat but after it slapped her once she wouldn't get near it again. She did slick floors without seeming to even notice them. She jumped right into the van and did steps without a problem. She seemed to really like a toddler she met. Her sire is Rysta and her dam is Most Aggressive. She did complain some the first night in her foster home so may not be quiet enough for apartment living, she does do pretty well on leash though.

Road Runner just arrived from the Sanford Orlando Race track. He is an XL red male that never actually had an official race. He just didn't do well enough in schooling. He weighs 88lbs and is a big, happy, bouncy guy that has a wonderful, outgoing personality. He still has his fuzzy puppy coat and has a very cute, puppyish face. Road Runner won't even turn 2 until October 1st. Road Runner's sire is Dynamics's Nalin and his dam is Time Release and yes he does have a brother named Wile E Coyote. This cute guy passed his cat and small dog test easily. When the cat ran he did show some interest, but wouldn't actually get near the cat even then. He appeared to already understand that cats had claws. He is living with small Italian Greyhounds in his foster home and loves them. He tries to get them to play with him. He liked the toddler and baby he met and seems to like everyone. He is a very joyful guy and everything makes him happy. He would be an excellent meet and greet dog for someone that wanted to promote greyhound adoption. He loves other dogs and tries to get everyone he meets to play with him by offering a play bow. Road Runner is definitely going to be a fun guy for a lucky family. He will need some work on leash walking because he tends to bounce sometimes and is very curious about everything. He travels very well. Even though he is very young he is pretty calm and well behaved. His foster home loves having him as a guest because of his happy, silly personality.

Boomer is a brindle boy that raced at 72lbs. His sire is TNT Star Wars and his dam is Speedy Petal. He only raced 18 races at Southland in Arkansas and broke his hock October 3 of 2013, back when he was only 2. The break was splinted there by a vet and he was sent to us for rehab. Our vets also checked his leg and agreed that he would heal up fine in a splint and the break wouldn't require surgery. Boomer's break healed up nicely and he was adopted in December of 2013. He was recently returned to us because of financial problems that made a move in with relatives necessary. His old injury was causing him trouble on the many stairs in the new house too. Our vet has checked out Boomer's leg again and it looks fine and the old break is still strong, although he does favor it just a little. Boomer likes to go on short walks and is great on leash. He can run around and do whatever he feels like doing, but probably wouldn't enjoy long hikes or jogs due to the old injury. Boomer will turn 6 on August 11th. He is a sweet, very calm boy that is very good and already home acclimated. He is pretty friendly now, although he was shy and a bit overwhelmed when he was with us as a younger dog. He is very lazy and is happy to just have a soft dog bed to lay on. He isn't a dog that follows you or bothers you for attention. Boomer potties nicely on leash so may not need a fenced yard. He is a gorgeous, brindle boy that has golden eyes. Boomer has lived with cats and small dogs in his previous home. When Boomer was first with us he loved his crate and was very quiet in it while he was on crate rest for the broken leg. He was so quiet in his crate we felt he may be a great apartment dog. He has cried some in his crate since he came back to us so the jury is still out on if that would still be true. He would probably not be able to do a lot of stairs and would at least need an apartment on the ground floor. So far Boomer has been very laid back in his foster home. He hasn't tried to initiate play with the other dogs and just prefers to nap and relax most of the time. He would be perfect for someone that didn't have much time or energy for walking and exercising dogs.

Sweet Pea just arrived from a kennel that closed at the Orlando Race Track. She is a tiny girl that raced at just 56lbs. She only raced 14 races, starting out at the Valley Track in Texas and then moving to Orange Park before going to Orlando. She only placed in 2 races, and never won any of them, so retired quickly. Her sire is Rhythmless and her dam is Miss Adelaide. She turned 2 on March 17th. Sweet Pea lives up to her name. She is a sweet, friendly girl that is very happy and waggy. She seems to have a wonderful personality and was so comfortable when she arrived that she happily laid down in the grass and rolled around in a busy parking lot when we picked her up. She loves belly rubs. So much personality and sweetness! Sweet Pea was very interested in the cat when she first met it but after a couple of slaps from the cat decided she wanted nothing to do with cats. That first cat made a huge impression on her because she has avoided other cats she has met since. We think she should be trainable with cats. We think Sweet Pea would do better in a home with no cats based on her initial level of interest. Sweet Pea did fine with a small white Italian Greyhound she met so should be OK to live in a home with small dogs. More as we get to know her.

He is a tiny blue brindle male that raced at just 64lbs. He is a littermate to Liverpool that arrived in the same load. He is shorter of the two boys, his littermate Liverpool is taller and lankier. His sire is HL's Tod N Tyler and his dam is Keeper Spode. He is a young guy that will turn 2 on August 10th. He seems like a pretty calm guy for one so young. He seems pretty friendly. Oxford passed his cat test with no interest and he also has done fine with the small dogs he has seen so should be able to live with either. More as we get to know him.

His sire is Hi Noon Renegade and his dam is SL Ava. Smore turned 3 on Dec 2nd. Smore raced 44 races and got up to B level. Rich is a gorgeous 75lb fawn male with a small white blaze on his face and white toes and chest. He was a good racer that had a long career of 225 races. He just retired from the Birmingham Race Course and also raced at Pensacola and Southland tracks. He was a top A level racer and did compete in a big stakes race for the top racers at that track so he was a very fast guy. He just turned 5 on June 26th. Rich is a very friendly happy guy that seems confident and easy going. He was initially curious about the cats he met but lost interest after he got slapped. He may be OK in a home with a very confident cat with supervision and training. No timid cats though. He did fine with the small dog he met and tried to get him to play with him. Rich is pretty good on leash and seemed to travel well.  His sire is PG Tiger and his dam is Whispering Pines. More as we get to know him.

Fox is a calm quiet male that hasn't made a peep in his kennel while recovering from his neuter. He seems like he will be pretty good on leash and well behaved. Even when he was not feeling good he would get up and wag his tail in greeting whenever anyone would walk close to his crate. Seems like a happy sweet boy that will be calm and easy. So handsome too. He is doing great with the small white italian Greyhound in his foster home and was afraid of the cat he met and wouldn't go near it. Fox travels very well and just gets in the car and lays down calmly. More as we get to know him.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Watkins family of Greenville 7/11/17

Mo is an XL sweet boy that never raced and never received an official racing name. He weighed 82lbs at his vet visit. Mo schooled once but just walked out of the box and stood there looking around. He really wasn't interested in running or chasing so he was just retired. He came straight to us from the Kansas farm where he was raised. Because of never having a racing career Mo has not been exposed to much about home and city life and still has a lot to learn. He is particularly confused with the variety of flooring, carpets, wood, brick tile, and stairs. He isn't fond of any of it yet, but is learning. Dirt and grass are his preferred things to walk on since that is what he is used to. He will just freeze on other surfaces. Mo is a sweet guy that is very loving and friendly toward people, but he does seem to be a sensitive guy that gets worried about new things. He gains confidence slowly. On the trip over from Kansas in one of our volunteer's vans he would snuggle up to her when she would lay down to rest in the van. Mo is just a little jumpy if you move suddenly, but he does want to be with you and stay close. He is great on walks and walks politely on leash outdoors. Inside he can freeze on leash when he encounters new types of flooring that scare him. He is doing pretty good on the tile and wood floors in his foster home after about a week, but the carpets and brick in the home are a little harder for him to accept. He is great with the small dog that is in his foster home and he just sniffed the cat he met. Mo is normally pretty quiet in his kennel but sometimes does the famous greyhound roo that sounds much like a sad wolf howl. He is quite the singer with a deep, sweet, sad voice. He is very sweet and still has his furry, farm puppy coat that is starting to shed out now. He just turned 2 in April so is pretty young. His sire is Kiowa Myth and his dam is Fly Miley Cyrus.

Liverpool just arrived from a kennel closing at the Orlando race track. He only has one official race listed there and came in 7th because he went so wide in the first turn. He must not have done well in schooling either so was retired young. He is a tiny, blue brindle boy that raced at just 63lbs. He retired with his brother Oxford, Liverpool is the taller and skinnier of the two tiny boys and may actually be a good bit bigger than his brother once he puts the weight he needs. He is very young and will turn 2 on August 10th. His sire is HL's Tod N Tyler and his dam is Keeper Spode. Liverpool seems very calm for his young age. He stood and looked out the car window for most of a 2.5 hour car trip but didn't seem to be stressed by it. He just wanted to see where he was going. Liverpool passed his cat test easily with just a few calm sniffs and was the same with the small dog he met. He seemed OK with a toddler he met briefly too. He seems pretty friendly but maybe just a little bit overwhelmed by everything new in his life. He didn't come across as a real confident guy. More as we get to know him.

He will turn 3 on October 21st. His sire is Super Lee and his dam is BWG Judy Carol. PK was initially very interested in the cat, but after a few slaps from the cat he lost all interest and didn't want to go near the cat again. Even though he may be trainable with a very mean cat, like our tester, we think he would probably do better in a home with no cats. PK was fine with the small dog he met and never showed interest in him other than a polite sniff. He seemed to really like the toddler he met. PK traveled well and has been quiet in his crate so far. His sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is Marsey. He was described by his trainer as an energetic, fun, happy guy that is always very well behaved in the kennel. She said that Butch was good with the other dogs but tended to do his own thing and was more attached to the people than other dogs. She thinks he would probably do fine as an only dog as well as in a pack. Butch is a very sweet guy, he passed his cat test and is living with a cat in his foster home. Boss Hog came in from the Brindle Kennel at Palm Beach Race Track in Florida. He is a stunning, huge, muscular, red fawn, male that raced at 86lbs. Boss Hog raced 67 races and also raced at Naples Ft Myers but never was a very good racer, maybe due to his size. He mainly placed at the lower D levels. Boss Hog turned 3 on February 16th. His sire is KC and All and his dam is Broomhilda Bones. Boss Hog is a waggy, stocky boy that looks like a big body builder. It isn't that he is that tall, but he is heavy because of all the muscles he has. He is a happy, playful, guy that is curious about new things and very friendly. Boss Hog is a very confident, outgoing guy. He has done fine with small dogs he has met and doesn't show prey drive towards them. He is an alpha male and can be bossy with other dogs - mainly when they bother him when he is laying down. So he needs placement with a family with more submissive dogs or no dogs. Boss Hog was initially a little interested in cats but quickly lost interest after a slap. We think he would be OK in a home with a cat that stood his ground with supervision at first. Because Boss has shown some issues with his space when laying down, we won't place him with small children that could fall on him or wouldn't understand the old saying "Let a sleeping dog lie." Boss Hog is a very happy, friendly guy that would do great with a confident owner. He kennels nicely and quietly. The only time he makes noise in his kennel is when his foster family first comes home and he gets excited to see them. His foster family quickly fell in love with his joyful personality and wanted to keep Boss Hog, but just aren't able to add another dog to their pack at this time.
