How to get to all of our favorite places.  :-)

Lake Greenwood State Recreational Area

The park where we hold most of our picnics and outside meetings.

From Greenville:  Two choices-- Highway 25 or I385.

From Hwy25, leave Greenville and come straight down 25 into Greenwood. Continue straight through town, all the way past most of the businesses. A short distance after you see the RiteAid and Walgreens Pharmacies on your right and CVS Pharmacy on the left (you'll also see the signs for the Hospital), Highway 34 will fork off to the left. Take that left and follow it all the way through the town of Ninety Six. Continue past town about another 10 minutes and you'll come to a new four-way stop out in the middle of nowhere at Highway 702. There should be a sign that points to the State Park. Turn left and watch for the park a few miles down the road on your right.

From I385, leave
Greenville and come toward Clinton until you merge with I26. The next exit should be Highway 56, Clinton. Turn right off the interstate and come into the town of Clinton. There's one right turn/merge....make sure you take that right. Come straight through downtown and join with Highway 72 towards Greenwood. Continue on that road about 20 minutes, passing over Lake Greenwood. The next stoplight, again way out in the middle of nowhere, is Highway 702 in Coronaca. You should see a huge motor home dealer on the left, a convenience store on the right, and a sign that points you to the state park. Turn left and follow the signs. There is one island/merge to the left...make sure you take that left to stay on 702. Continue on that road, passing the Area 4 entrance and on to the main entrance further down on the left.

Another choice from Greenville from Diane & Ralph:

Come down hwy 25 South, from Greenville area, until you see Hwy 254 on your left [about 42 miles] which is beyond the National Textile Plant, turn left and go approximately 1 to 1 1/2 miles to a 4 way stop, where Hwy 246 crosses..turn left onto Hwy 246 and proceed until you reach Charlie B's, just beyond that store you will see where Hwy 702 split's off to the left, again......follow Hwy 702 about 6 miles and you will come to the entrance of Greenwood State Park/Recreational area.  This might save them several miles..and time too.

From Augusta:

Leave town on Highway 25 toward Greenwood. At the stoplight in Trenton (just past the row of pecan trees) go straight toward Johnston. Follow that highway all the way into and through downtown Saluda. After you pass most of town, you'll reach a stoplight with a Waffle House-type place on your right. Turn left there, and you'll immediately see the sign for Highway 39 on your right just past the Ford dealer. Turn right and follow Highway 39 into Chappells. At the stopsign in the crossroads of Highway 34, turn left. At the next corner (over a hill and across a big bridge), you'll find a four-way stop for Highway 702. Turn right and follow that road until you see the park on your right.

From Columbia:

Leave town on I26 heading toward Spartanburg. Exit at Newberry for Highway 34...I believe it's the second of three exits there. Turn left and come into Newberry on 34. You'll follow 34 all the way around Newberry-- be careful at the first stoplight. The road makes a jog to the left, then just down the road makes another turn back to the right. (It's weird, but it works) Follow 34 toward Greenwood, making the left merge turn through Silverstreet. About half an hour after leaving Newberry you'll go through our little town of Chappells, climb a hill, then cross a big bridge at Buzzard's Roost Dam. The next corner is a new four-way stop at Highway 702. Turn right and watch for the state park several miles down the road on your right.

From Spartanburg:

Follow the above directions from Greenville for 385 but beginning with 26 toward Columbia.

From Anderson and Clemson:

Leave Anderson and come into downtown Honea Path, then turning right and continuing all the way through the little towns of Donalds and Hodges. If you keep following the same road it will take you to a merge onto Highway 25. Turn right toward Greenwood and continue all the way through town, leaving the obvious downtown area behind you. After passing the new Eckerd's Drugs on your right you'll see the sign for Highway 34 to the left. Follow that turn and continue on 34 all the way through Ninety Six. About 10 minutes further on 34 will bring you to the four-way stop at Highway 702. Turn left and you'll see the park a few miles further on the right.
